Ford - Explorer :: 1999 - Clunking Feel Through Steering Wheel - How To Check Ball Joints
Have some clunking I can feel through the steering wheel. Starting with checking ball joints.
1999 explorer Eddie Bauer.
Would I jack it up on the control arm to release any tensions? Any tips or tricks after doing a visual to find my clunking?
Golf/GTI VI :: Brake Pedal Seems Too Soft / Brake Feel Isn't Linear
I own a stock 2010 golf with 22k miles on it. There seems to be a problem with brake feel. Brake pedal feels way too soft and there is way too much pedal travel for brakes to engage. Car won't start decelerating until pedal is pushed nearly 1/2 of its total travel length. However there seems no problem with stopping the car. On hard braking car stops well (with ABS). Another problem is brake feel isn't linear.

My ford F-150 makes a clunking noise when I release the brake at a stop light or stop sign. It sounds like it is in the transmission. It only happens when I come to a complete stop and start moving again.
View 4 RepliesFord - Windstar :: Clunking Noise Coming From Brake Pads
I've been noticing this rattling sound when going over bumps, which doesn't seems to go away!. I know it's a problem with the brake pads because it goes away as soon as I depress the brake pedal. So I decided to take another look at each wheel.
- Brake pads are relatively new and properly installed.
- Wheels have anti-rattle clips properly installed.
- Bolts were properly tightened with a torque wrench by me.
- Slide pins are lubricated.
During my visual inspection I saw the rear wheel calipers are a bit loose and that should be making the noise. I would describe it as up and down play with respect to the rear rotors or the ground.
I don't know what would cause that since each bolt is tight. I don't know if low brake fluid could cause that, no lights are lit on the dashboard but will take a look at the reservoir.
Toyota - Highlanderhybrid :: 2006 - Clunking Noise While Applying Brake Pedal?
I have a 2006 Toyota Highlander Hybrid 4WD. Whenever I apply the brake pedal past a certain point, I hear some sort of clunking type of noise from the front of the car. The noise can be done when braking hard, or even if I am at a stop and just press the pedal down hard. It sounds bad but I have not noticed any issues in braking performance. Everything is stock, brake pads have 60-70% as of my last serving. What this is and if I need to be concerned?

I have been chasing this dam noise / clunking for awhile now. i changed the tie rod ends, cv axels and sway bar endlinks so far. (they needed to get done anyway) besides those parts all the other bushings in my front end look good.
The noise I will hear is a cracking noise when starting to move from a dead stop and when changing gears i can feel/hear a clunking in my front end. What to check???
Camry 2012+ :: 2016 LE - Transmission Clunking Noise When Shift Into Reverse With Foot On Brake
I bought a brand new 2016 Camry LE. Sometimes when car sits for a while, and I shift from P to R, there is a clunking noise with foot on the brake. I tried with the parking break engage and it still does it.

View 12 RepliesPassat (B5) :: 2000 V6 Making Clunking Noise When Hit The Gas For Quite A While
My wife's 2000 Passat 2.8 V6 has been making a clunking noise when you hit the gas for quite a while. I finally got the time to look under the hood and noticed that the engine (when the car is in drive) is rearing back and making a loud clunk noise. I thought at first it was a motor mount but this picture is what I found. It is a mount that comes off a spindle that is directly in the center of the engine and right under the radiator... I have been told it is a "snub mount", "front engine mount", "torque rod mount", etc.
The problem is, when I call around to the local parts places no one has a clue what I am asking for. So what I need is for someone to ID the mount and then point me in the right direction on were to purchase it. Also if there is a write up on how to change it, that would be very useful too. I noticed that it looks a lot like the APR "snub mount" I am looking at for my 1.8T A4 and they have very detailed directions on how to change it. Is this the same thing? Can I buy it at a VW dealership?
Passat (B5) :: Clunking Noise In Front End When Car Goes Over A Dip At Speed
When I drive over a bump or the car goes over a dip at speed, there is clunking sound from the front end. It seems to be much more noticeable in this cold weather, hence my current concern. I have not looked into it at all. I live on a bumpy dirt road, so the front end gets a workout.
The car has 39,800 miles. So the 40k is almost here, and the 4 years is almost here as well so I cannot just not drive the car for a while.
But if I can get a common problem fixed under warranty, I will take the time tomorrow to deal with this. The other weird thing in this cold snap is that the VW never seems to get to 190 deg, like it usually does (middle of temp gauge), it will be a few notches below. Normal situation? It will go back to 190 if I turn off the heat and drive a bit harder, but with the heat blasting (baby in car) and very mellow driving, it doesn't quite make it...
Passat (B6) :: Clunking Sort Of Noise From Steering Wheel
So I just came back from the stealer(Koeppel). I had them check out my car because it was making this clunking sort of noise from the steering wheel. When you turn the steering wheel, when it is turned straight, left and right, it makes this obnoxious noise. It sounds pretty bad.I thought it might be an axle problem or possibly a bearing. Now heres the funny part. My dealer says that it is normal. They said they called VW technical support and they told them that the way the rack&pinion was built on our cars, that causes the noise. He said i can show you 3 other Passats that make the same noise. I didn't bother because i did not have the time. I am going to go tomorrow again to see if they can find anything else on it. If they dont, i am going to ask them to show me the other Passats with the same noise.

I got a few questions. First one is how hard would it be to swap the auto trans out for a manual and what would I need. Secondly, have some weird boost issue, boost gauge use to read 5 psi with front mount now its at 2 psi and their are no leaks in the IC system.. can't figure out what it is (turbo only has 3k miles on it) final question what causes a clunking noise every time i go over bumps and curbs?
View 4 RepliesPassat (B5) :: Clunking Noise In Front Right Suspension At 67,000 Miles
My 2002 Passat Wagon (2.8L, FWD) has started developing a clunking noise at 67,000 miles in the front right suspension. Based on forum search here, it sounds like a common problem with the control rods, tie rod ends, ...
I looked at the control arm kits available at ECS Tuning. Is this a DIY job for someone with only moderate mechanical skills? I have never performed front end suspension work before. How difficult is it? Special tools needed?
If I had it done (both sides, upper and lower) at an independent repair shop, how much might I expect to pay?
Lastly, is it best to replace all the parts (as provided in these kits), rather than isolating the part that is currently causing the clunk and just replacing what needs to be replaced?
Passat (B5) :: 1998 - Clunking And Clattering Noise Only At Low Speeds
I have a '981.8 and all of my control arms were shot so I replaced them all (a MAJOR PITA i might add) and got rid of that horrible noise of clunking and clattering. But wait... whats that I hear?? a little clunking or something. I don't know, its quiet and only audible at low speeds (35-). I don't know what it would be because the control arms are quiet now. Am i missing something? Sway Bar?

View 2 RepliesPassat (B5) :: Metal Clunking Noise Right Before Coming To A Complete Stop
I have this horrible metal clunking noise coming off of my front end. I just had new brakes put on the car and the mechanic said everything looked good around the assembly. But now when I am approaching to stop, right as I apply a bit more pressure to the brakes before stopping, I get a soft clunk inside the car... but I feel it through the pedal. When the windows are down and I am going slow enough, I can hear it clink (clink, not clunk). It's a very metal on metal sound.... I thought of my control arms, however there is no sound what-so-ever when I steer left to right....
View 4 RepliesGolf IV R32 :: Brake Pedal Feel Deterioration
So after my first track day i bleed my brakes and they felt great for about 3 days, but then the pedal feel started to deteriorate back to its old crappy feel where nothing happens until its depressed to the same depth as the gas pedal...
In other words, I have about a solid 1.5 inches of travel with nothing happening.
Fixes? Bleeding procedure? I heard we have to prime our abs pumps? yes no?
Golf V R32 :: Crunchy Feel Through Brake Pedal When ABS Is Active
I've had my R32 for a week now and I'm starting to develop some questions. This is one that I haven't been able to find an answer to by searching, so here it goes. When the ABS is active (coming to a hard stop on snow and ice, for example), I get a really strange almost "crunchy" feel through the brake pedal. ABS I've experienced on other cars hasn't been this harsh so I'm not sure if it's normal on these.
View 4 RepliesGolf/GTI VII :: Jerkiness Caused By DSG / Inconsistent Brake Feel
Carefully modulating the brake in this car to offset any jerkiness caused by the DSG riding the gears down eventually became second nature to me and I am pretty good at keeping things nice and smooth. As of late however, my brakes are all over the place and it's driving me insane. If the person ahead of me stops short pulling up to a light and I need to follow suit, my brakes will often BITE hard resulting in a not so subtle jolt. Other times I don't get nearly as much stopping power as I think I should given how much force I'm putting on the pedal and I really have to bury it at the last minute. Not sure if these are a factor of the DSG downshifting at just the wrong moment or what, but it's gotten a bit unnerving.
