I am looking at purchasing a 2003 passat glx 4motion (V6) with 170,000 miles on it for a winter car. The car I'm looking at has been diagnosed with a "rear viscous coupling loose" and a repair estimate of $1700 to fix. The car will be priced accordingly but I'm curious if this is something that I can repair myself and save a few beans.
I am pretty handy with repairs so that's not too big of a problem. I've been searching the forums and can't seem to find anything on this problem. Is this in the rear differential or is it a part of the Torsen center diff?
The car also has a clogged heater core, I've located plenty of info on this site on how to repair this so that won't be to hard.

I can see where there is a 1/4 inch post that if turned will push the assembly out, but i can only get it to come out about 1 inch. Is there something else that has to be released ?

How do I pull out the map light assembly? The whole thing not just the bulb covers.
I tried pulling from the rear but it won't budge and created a crease in my headliner.
Is there a certain way to pull it down? I don't want to damage the headliner anymore since it's not even a week old yet.

How do you remove rear turn indicator assembly so bulb can be changed?. Specifically is there another screw besides the two on the end of the assembly. Once the two are removed the assembly is loose but something is still holding the assembly.

Tried to remove my rear interior light assembly up on the headliner but just couldn't figure it out. I can pry the clear lens off pretty easy but I want to remove the whole assembly from the headliner so I can put some sound deadner behind it because ever since I upgraded my sound system it rattles like crazy and is driving me nuts. I noticed my '08 TSI wagon has been marking it's territory, couldn't figure out where the leak was coming from so I ran it into the dealer. Turns out the oil is leaking from the cam cover assembly & they said it's a seven hour job to fix it. And while they have it torn apart, anything else I should replace?

I have a 2003 Toyota Camry LE that I recently took in for service (oil change). The car has about 95000 miles on it. After I drove it home and used it I now see a small pool of a light brown viscous liquid under the car. The liquid is not odorless. Its got what I can only describe as a 'chemically'smell. The drip is happening near the front end of the car. What could this be? Is this something that needs immediate fixing? Am I putting my family as risk if I don't attend to this right away?

How to remove the center (upper, right above the radio) dash vent assembly on an '04 Passat (I assume many other years would be similar). I have a rattle/squeek in there that I'd like to address. Sliding a credit card in between the vent/dash provides some improvement, so I'm thinking if I could get the assembly out and shim and/or lube it I might be able to resolve the problem.
