Nissan - Altima :: 2004 - Power Steering Going In And Out

I have a Nissan '04 Altima. Last winter, in temps near zero, my power steering seemed to go out. It worked fine when it got a little warmer. Figured maybe a stuck valve or something on the pump. Works fine sometimes and sometimes it doesn't. Asked my mechanic to check this out when I went in for my last oil change. Not sure they checked anything (it was working when I brought it in) they recommended a fluid flush. Did the fluid flush, it continued to work for a few days, then stopped working again. What could cause this so I can have them check specific components. And so I don't spend money on things that I don't need to.

Nissan - Altima :: 2005 SE Intermittently Will Not Start For No Reason

My car intermittently will not start for no reason. I first thought the fuel pump going out, but you can hear it and no issues with the car running. I was told the Altima has no fuel filter only a screen, so that's not it? The car will start perfectly 10 times in a row and then it just cranks & cranks & cranks almost to the point of draining my battery. The battery is good (had it checked). Then all of a sudden after cranking the car (good cranking) it'll start right up & run normal ... No fuel leaks to be seen, just out of options?? I called a local garage to ask about a diagnostic check and was told without a code he wouldn't know where to start. Well, unless I bring it in when having the problem - that's not possible. 2005 Nissan Altima SE...

Tiguan :: 2009 - TPM / EPS / Power Steering / AFS Lights Come Intermittently?

We have a 2009 Tiguan with 95K Kilometres on it. The first time this happened was about a year ago. W were driving on the highway (somewhat fast) coming around a curve and the dashboard lit up like a Christmas tree. TPM, Power Steering, EPS (anti skid), AFS (lighting) and I think one other. We turned around and called the dealership. They poked around for a while, flashed the firmware (just in case) but couldn't find a cause.

The problem did not recur until a couple of months ago, same trouble lights. (note we currently have winter tires on and so TPM isn't even hooked up). We had just had a fairly major service done (one of the scheduled ones) and they DID replace a bulb for an AFS fault a few days earlier.

We again returned to the dealership and they came to the conclusion that it's the battery, cause when they swapped it out, it cleared the trouble code (but I think this is a red herring as there is probably NVRAM that got cleared, so of course the trouble code went away). We balked a bit at the $200 they wanted for the replacement (as we were considering trading it in at that time), so the popped our battery back in and again it did not recur until yesterday.

It happens when cornering (hard? at moderate speed? Not sure), but I can almost make it happen on demand. Turning the car off for a while will usually clear the fault.

I've read a few threads and indeed a low battery can cause such issues, but I still kind of think it's a faulty sensor when so many (somewhat) unrelated faults going off. I was especially interested in this thread..steering-light but they seem to only have a power steering light come on, so I don't know. I threw a meter onto the battery just now and I suppose it could be a bit low with the meter showing 11.98 - 12.00 volts at the terminals.

Elantra HD (2006-10) :: EPS Light Intermittently Comes On / Lost Power Steering

I have a 2010 Elantra 4dSD 2.0 DOHC. 61, 522 miles on it.

I have had no issues with the car until about 2 weeks ago. Suddenly the EPS light came on and I lost power steering. Upon pulling over and restarting the car the problem went away. I went about a week, and suddenly it did it again. Restarted car, went away, still does this intermittently.

I took it to the dealer, they found the following codes:

EPS - Electronic Power - C1259 - Steering Angle Sensor Electrical
EPS - Electronic Power - C1290 - Torque Sensor Main Signal Fault
EPS - Electronic Power - C1604ECU(Brake System) Hardware error
EPS - Electronic Power - C2400 - Motor
ABSESC - ABS/ESC - C1202 - Wheel Speed Sensor Front - LH Invalid/No Signal
ABSESC - ABS/ESC - C1208 - Wheel Speed Sensor Front - LH Invalid/No Signal
ABSESC - ABS/ESC - C1211 - Wheel Speed Sensor Front - LH Invalid/No Signal

They reset the codes, and EPS Reflash. Recalibrated EPS. They told me if the problem comes back I would need a new steering column ($1500+). This seems a bit strange to me for an intermittent issue. It would almost seem to me that if multiple sensors are effected that they are receiving bad data from somewhere. Could the ABS sensors be causing this problem with bad data? I've also heard a failing battery could cause this type of issue.

Santa FE SM (2001-06) :: AC / Power Steering Belt Squealing Intermittently

The AC/power steering belt in my 2004 Santa Fe, 2.4L has intermittently squealed for some time, but lately the squeal has gotten louder. Initially it only happened when the compressor was on, but now it happens when the compressor is off. I have not experienced a loss in steering power but I did notice that the power steering fluid appears to be discolored. I have replaced the belt and re-tensioned it several times hoping this would solve the issue, but it hasn't. I intend to take the belt off again and see if the pulleys all spin freely. When I replaced the belt initially, everything did spin freely. My guess is that the power steering pump may be shot and is putting excessive load on the belt, however, there is no PS pump "whine" and again, no loss of power steering. It looks like I should also check for separated pulleys.

Honda - Accord :: 2005 - Power Steering Failing Intermittently?

The power steering on my car is failing intermittently. There is no secret thing to do to make it fail. It's mostly at low/no speed like when pulling into a parking spot. Thus far, I have had the pump replaced twice, pressure valve switch, and the rack and pinion replaced. My mechanic of 10 years is stumped as to what is happening.

Nissan - Pathfinder :: Power Steering Pump Is Intermittently Engaging / Disengaging

I have an '05 Pathfinder w/ 93k miles. Recently noticed a uneven feel in the power steering, most noticeable at slower (less than 30mph) speeds. Feels like the power steering pump is intermittently engaging/disengaging. As I turn the steering wheel I feel random "tight" or "hard" spots in the steering. Similar to what you would feel if the wheel was against a curb and you were trying to turn into it. Doesn't make any appreciable noise, but can just feel it in the steering wheel.Checked power steering fluid, no issue. Replaced power steering pump, had no effect. Power-flushed the power steering system, had no effect.Oh - and my wife says she hasn't hit any large rocks, logs, or potholes recently!

Nisan - Sentra :: 1996 - Very Low Mileage At 68k Miles?

I have a 96 Nissan Sentra with about 68,000 miles on it (awesome, right?). This car is a trooper and has been with me for several years. I live in Pennsylvania where there is a yearly inspection requirement -- mechanical in addition to emissions. I took it in last week for inspection. My mechanic, who is a great guy I trust, tells me I need about $500 worth of work in order to get it to pass inspection: a new exhaust from the catalytic converter back, a tie down of some kind (engine?), and a rod that I believe connects the wheels.

This car blue books in Fair condition at about 1000. It's in Fair or less condition. I don't have very much money at all right now, and I'm trying to decide if I should sink it into fixing the car and hoping nothing else major breaks soon, or spending it on a down payment for a new(er) car. It would be a no-brainer in favor of the newer car if my mileage weren't so low. I don't know a whole lot about cars but I'm trying to educate myself—not sure if the age of the car or the low mileage wins out on this one.

Civic - Honda :: 2001 - Power Steering Intermittently Cuts Out And Wheel Becomes Really Hard To Turn

The power steering on my 2001 Honda Civic intermittently cuts out and the wheel becomes really hard to turn. The belt is tight and the fluid level is correct.

The weird thing about it, is it only happens in cold weather. Everything was fine all summer, but now that the weather has turned colder the problem has reappeared. Same thing happened last year. . .

Nisan - Sentra :: 2010 - Brake Lights Out - ABS On - Cruise Control Won't Work?

We started having problems first with the car dying at stops, and having to be restarted. We had the oxygen sensor cleaned, and it stopped that problem. Then my ABS lights came on, and my cruise control stopped working. When the car was cold and I tried to take off (forward or reverse) the rpms would not go above 1000, and the car would only move like it was idling. I read in a closed discussion on this forum that it was the stop light switch under the brake pedals so we got one and changed it out. Same problems.

So we thought we had a bad one, so we exchanged it, and the tech at the Auto Parts store said "Maybe you have a fuse out." We changed the stop light switch again, same problem. We found a blown fuse marked "stop light." It is a $2.70 fuse, 10 amps. We put it in, and the brake lights worked. I planned to put it in the shop the next day, having read that it could be the air inlet sensor, the throttle body needing cleaning, the transmission, the transmission fluid....anyway, I had to go to the store this morning, and the ABS light was out, the cruise control was working, and the car no longer ran in "limp mode."

Before you do anything else, change the fuse!

Nissan - Altima :: Shaky Steering Wheel Most Noticeable At Slow Speeds

This summer I replaced the inner and outer tie rod ends on a 97 Nissan Altima, had a bent wheel replaced, and had an alignment done. Everything worked smoothly for the last 5,000 or so miles. I had my tires rotated and balanced recently which created a new problem, a shaky steering wheel most noticeable at slow speeds. I've had a similar problem before and had it fixed by balancing the tires. I took it back in to have them rebalanced, thinking they may have forgotten to do it the first time. They rebalanced them and the problem has not changed at all.

Nissan - Altima :: Rattling Noise Near Belt When Have The AC On Or When Turn Steering Wheel

I drive a 1999 Nissan Altima GXE and when i turn the a/c on or turn my steering wheel the car makes a rattling noise towards the belt. I have replaced the belt and i check all the electrical components that are runned on that belt. But i cant figure it out. I think its something to do with my pulley system because my power steering/ac are runned on the same belt along with my alternator and other components. What to check.

Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: Engine Missing / Vibration - Lack Of Power Intermittently

I just did my plugs in my 04 F150 5.4 The truck had a really bad miss, and I figured it was time for plugs. I broke all eight plugs which I expected as the plugs were in there since new and had 120 000 miles on them. Replaced with champion double platinum and I am not certain that was the best idea.

The truck is much better with the new plugs but still has a miss and a rough vibration. The truck seems to shake side to side at idle but smooths out during normal driving conditions. I have noticed that it seems to lack power intermittently if that makes any sense. Also, the check engine light was on for a while but I tracked that down to a broken wire in the evap system.

So I am thinking first step is to verify that the coils and boots were installed correctly. I have to see if we have the scope module for the Genisys at work. I am going to check for vacuum leaks as well. I just changed the fuel filter and no change. Is there anything else I should look at? Would cam phasers cause a rough idle and intermittent loss of power?

I don't drive this truck every day so I can take it apart to diagnose it further...

Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: 2004 F250 Running Rough Intermittently

Ok, so I have a 2004 F250, with 6.0L. when driving at a steady speed (doesn't matter what speed), the engine will run rough when coming to an idle, and stay running rough until I shut it off and let it sit for a bit.

After I cycle the key a few times it will fire up and run fine, so I came to the conclusion that air is getting in the fuel system. I then took the filter cap off that is located in the engine bay and cycled the key, which produced a lot of bubbles, which I am assuming shouldn't happen.

I guess my question is, should I have air bubbles in the filter bowl, when cycling the ignition?

Nissan - Altima :: 2011 - CEL On / Diagnostic Interface Pinout Not Getting Power

My wife's 2011 Nissan Altima 2.5S threw a Check Engine Light. Runs fine, but we took it to Meineke for a free diagnostic scan. Problem: they said they couldn't get the diagnostic unit to talk to the car because the diagnostic interface pinout wasn't getting power through the #16 pin. They checked the fuses, but didn't go any further for diagnoses for why it would be doing that.

Nissan - Altima :: 2003 Loses Power / Odd Error Code Result

My 2003 Altima (generally trouble-free!) recently lost power ... it would just putter along at 5mph. I parked, and the engine revved up fine. Waited a bit, put in drive and and same issue. I punched the accelerator, it sort of backfired and then ran OK. Next day, I called the local auto center who thought it could be catalytic converter blockage. They ran test for error codes and one stated check engine light was out of order and that instrument cluster should be replaced. They admitted it was bizarre, so I declined the repair and have driven just a handful of miles in the few days since. Today, power lost again, same 5 mph-only issue. I park, turn off engine and wait a bit. Then it wouldn't turn over... some blinking lights in the instrument cluster. So... it's been towed and tomorrow the same auto center will investigate.
