Lexus SC430 :: Faulty 02 Sensor Could Damage Motor?

I was wondering whether a faulty 02 sensor (in my case bank 1 sensor 1) is bad for the motor or not?

It is clear to me that a worn out 02 sensor can cause the following problems:

Wastes fuel

Can cause engine performance problems, such as surging and hesitating

Is the number one cause of excessive harmful exhaust emissions

Accelerates catalytic converter damage

BUT are there any other risks in case of damage on the long term?

What the ECU will do in case of a faulty 02 sensor? Will our Lexus order a rich fuel mixture to prevent heating problems or are we also running the risk of a poor mixture?

Lexus SC430 :: Code P0705 - Neutral Safety Switch Adjustment

I have recurring P0705 trouble codes. Lexus dealer checked the N/S switch itself and said it's good. I checked all the wiring, found an open, shouted Eureka! Ran a new wire, now all wires test good, but still getting the code. SO - I think I may need to adjust the position of the switch, since the trouble code is for a range malfunction. BUT - I can't find a procedure anywhere.

Elantra HD (2006-10) :: 2007 - Shift Into Neutral While Coasting?

I'm wondering if it is OK to shift into neutral while coasting (engine on). I've read varying arguments back and forth on whether or not it hurts it. I've done for a while in my 99 suburban and the transmission still shifts just fine. I've tried it once in the elantra just to see how it affects my fuel economy, and it boosts it about 100mpg (coming off a freeway ramp). Braking and steering controls don't seem to be affected by the lower vacuum.

I can see why its not advised while the engine is off (i.e., towing), but if the engine is on, torque converter turning, transmission fluid pumping, I can't see where it would hurt.

Ford - Thunderbird :: 1985 Turbo Coupe Dies When Coasting In Neutral

This problem has plagued my '85 Tbird Turbo Coupe for about a month. When I put my car in neutral while moving, the RPMs fall significantly below idle and then the engine usually catches itself and after about 5-10 seconds idles normally. If I do this at high speed (say 40 mph +), the RPMs fall to the point where the engine stalls and dies. If I do it at 25-40 mph, it will go down about 200-500 RPMs and then catch itself. If I do it at 15-20 mph, it will be just barely noticeable, and anything slower than that I can't notice it. It will also do this to some extent when I'm stopped if I rev the engine up really high and let it off, but it is far less noticeable. This car has had extensive work done to it in the past 6 months.

Most recently, I had the fuel injectors replaced, throttle body cleaned, IAC valve cleaned, and the vehicle searched for vacuum leaks. (most of that in search of the solution to this problem as well as to improve the general performance of the vehicle. A week before that, I also had a new fuel tank, fuel pump, and fuel filter installed. I've got a very small leak on the back of my muffler, no cat, and no other exhaust leaks I can find. I am getting a lot of black carbon out of the exhaust, but I have been running some fuel system cleaner through it. Also, the car sat for like 8 years before I got it, and the original cat became clogged and really gunked stuff up. I had all of the upper engine gaskets replaced, as much as we could get to cleaned internally, and the cat cut off at that point. Timing is very close to 10btdc. Could be 9.5, but just about right there. I double checked, no vacuum leaks that I could find with a can of carb cleaner. I tried checking for codes, but it's not even throwing me a confirmation code or anything, which is odd. But, my connector was pretty gummed up (I did clean it as good as I could) and just about anything wiring is suspect. I used two engine code readers that had previously been used on the car. Other than this, the car has plenty of power and runs fine down the road.

Here's the master list of what I've replaced in the past 6mo:

FUEL SYSTEM Fuel Pump (twice) Fuel Pressure Regulator Fuel Tank Fuel Injectors
ASSORTED FILTERS Fuel Filter (twice) Air Filter Oil Filter (several times) Oil Filler Cap PCV Valve
HOSES/COOLANT SYSTEM Nearly every Vacuum Hose Every Coolant Hose Heater Core (twice)
SENSORS AND COMPUTER STUFF Engine Control Module (ECM) Vane Air Meter (VAM) Idle Air Control Valve (IAC) Oxygen Sensor
STARTING SYSTEM/ELECTRIC/Misc. Spark Plugs and Wires (Motorcraft) Starter Solenoid Coil Pack Distributor
TFI Module Distributor Cap and Rotor Battery Timing Belt
EEC Relay Ignition Switch Tires Front Brakes Brake Master Cylinder (had previously been damaged) Front tie-bars Every gasket from the head up.

Passat (B5) :: 2003 W8 Engine Light On And Car Just Bogged Down Hard When Coasting In Neutral

So I was driving my car about a week ago when it decided to "die" on me for about 2 seconds. I was coasting in neutral (tiptronic) to a red light when the car's engine light popped on and the car just bogged down hard. I threw the car into drive and the problem went away immediately. I haven't had the problem since then, but I'm also not allowing the car to coast in neutral anymore.

I was thinking about bringing the car in to have them read the computer but is this something that they would be able to trace back or would I be out the 90 bucks for nothing? I have absolutely no clue what this could be.

Lexus LS 2007+ :: Engine Idled For 6 Hours On 2013 LS460 - Caused Damage?

Due to a string of bizarre circumstances, I accidentally left the engine running (idling) for 6 hours on my low-mileage 2013 LS460.

Also, just before leaving the car, I set the climate control system to "OFF"... so no air was blowing inside the car.

As soon as I realized that I left it idling, I ran to check the temperature gauge and it looked normal.

I drove the car for a few miles afterwards and it drove fine... although it was certainly hot to touch in most places.

Luckily, today was a rather cool day (highs in the mid 60s). I'm wondering, did I cause engine damage?

About 500 miles ago I had an oil change at the dealer. In light of this event, should I get another oil change?

Lexus RX 2004-09 :: Will Tire Size Mismatch Front To Back Damage Transmission

I just had new tires put on my rx330 and had an unbelievable combination of errors occur. The tire store put on 215/65 r17 tires on the front and 235/65 r17 tires on the rear. I know this sounds impossible but that's what happened. So I ended up with a substantial mismatch in tire sizes front to back.

Unfortunately I didn't discover this until 2 weeks later after driving around 225 miles half of which was high speed highway driving. Before the tires were changed the car ran straight without any pull to either side. Now it pulls to the right.

The tire store has offered to replace the tires with the correct ones and to compensate me for any damage to the transfer case, viscous coupling unit or transmission.

So how do I determine what level of damage occurred if any? Would all the damage be evident already simply driving the car. Alternatively, would the damage be a reduction in the operational lifespan of the drive train leading up to a "surprise" future failure?

The tire store has asked for an estimate of the repair costs which will be evaluated by an appraiser.

I don't want to identify the tire store until after a final settlement has been reached. However, it is a popular nation wide tire retailer.

New 2012 GX 460 in 01/2012. While GX is coasting between 55 mph and 70 mph, noticeable "whine" from vehicle. (Sounds like the whine from snow tires, but that happens all of the time in a previous vehicle.) Noise disappears when the accelerator is engaged. Been like this from day #1 and now at 10k miles. Dealer seems perplexed; has said at delivery and at 5k service that it is the tires. Bridgestone dealer says "not our tires."

Lexus LS 2007+ :: 2011 460L AWD - Consistent Vibration When Coasting

I just took delivery about 2 weeks ago of a 2011 LS 460L AWD with less than 30k miles. I have a very annoying issue that happens every time I let off the accelerator. There is a consistent vibration that seems to be coming from the drive train. It's really annoying to me. This occurs when driving about 50 mph or greater, nothing when driving at slower speeds. There is a 30 day exchange policy where I bought the car from, hope I don't need to use it.

Lexus LS 2007+ :: AWD Intermittent Vibration Coasting Downhill Around 60MPH

During an extended drive of the new ride today, we noticed an intermittent vibration when coasting downhill around 60MPH. I popped it in neutral and the vibration disappeared completely. Also, it stayed vibration-free when placed back in Drive, without touching the gas. But as soon as throttle is applied and then you coast again, the vibration reappears.

This points to a condition that only happens when the torque converter is locked, which could be a vibration originating within the transfer case that once coupled to the engine via the locked torque converter uses the engine as a tuning fork, resulting in the vibration. The L-SB-0013-12 AWD Vibration TSB mentions an ECM recalibration, which likely changes the torque converter to unlock whenever you lift off the gas pedal. Is this correct?

I also remember reading about the other TSB, where the "magic expensive fluid" in the transfer case gets changed 3 times in rapid succession. This would address chattering clutches within the transfer case, eliminating vibration at the source vs. masking it by unlocking the torque converter.

We also noticed a misfiring sensation under light throttle conditions at around 40-50MPH. I'm wondering if this is in fact the transfer case clutch chatter issue also...since the 60k spark plug replacement has already been done.

Lexus GS 2013+ :: High Pitched Whistling Sound When Coasting At 60 Mph

I finally got a recording of this, after trying to describe it without much success. Dealer drove the car 2x and claimed they don't hear it.

Video here, turn up your sound... noise happens just as the gas is let off...

As you can hear (if you turn speakers up, recording isn't very sensitive), it's kind of a high pitched whistling sound or whining sound. Happens when coasting (foot off gas) at 60mph. In gear or neutral, same noise. Only around that speed, only when foot off the gas.

What do you think this is? Some have suggested wheel bearing but if you listen this is more of a steady high pitched noise, not a helicopter like sound.

Lexus ES 2013+ :: Engine Knock When Accelerating From A Stop Or After A Brief Coasting On Freeway

I purchased a ES300h in March 2013. Starting end of September I noticed a rattle (pebbles in a tin can tumbling sound) when I went up a slight grade, accelerating from a stop, or accelerating after a brief coasting on the freeway. The first time at the dealer they said stop using Costco gas and use Top Tier. I used Shell and Chevron and there was a 80% improvement but the nuisance still continued, some days more and some days less, meaning when it rained it poured.

On the third visit to the dealer, with two specialists on a ride along of course it does not make that noise, but left it there for them to find the continued problem and they conceded it is engine knock to which there is nothing out of specs with the engine AND say that this is normal. I have never had a car do this, maybe specific to hybrids? The service advisor goes on to tell me that they filled my tank with 91 octane to stop the knock, BUT, the manual says use 87!!!

Some say this can lead to engine damage, some say only blown gasket, the dealer says no problem! A friend of mine has the same car and has no issues.
