Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Very Hard To Get A Smooth Shift From Gear To Gear

Background facts:
Tranny swapped from my 4 speed auto to a 1.8t o2j 5spd
13lb. Light flywheel
Powerflex dogbone mounts
Peloquin LSD

The problem: Very hard to get a smooth shift from gear to gear. Trust me, I know how to drive, but I can always feel the car shifting into a different gear if you know what I'm saying. On my friend's bone stock Jetta, I just let the clutch out without gas in between shifts and you don't feel a thing.

On my car, you feel EVERYTHING. People have told me the light flywheel will make the ride more uncomfortable in many ways, especially since the RPMs drop much quicker in between shifts than stock.

Golf/GTI VI :: Accelerator Dead Zone - When Press Pedal From Dead Stop Nothing Happens

So what I might have thought to be a transmission lag may be actually a dead zone in the pedal. When pressing the pedal from dead stop nothing happens until you press the pedal down further. Any way to reduce that or eliminate?

I'm referring to NA 2.5L engine with auto trans.

Golf/GTI VII :: 2015 - No Smooth Up Shift With 3rd And 4th Gear

I've just got my 2015 GTI a few months. I'm driving manual with my GTI daily commute to work, getting along well. However sometimes I'll be struggling with the manual when approving a corner or a stop, and I'm not having a smooth up shift with 3rd and 4th gear (odd eh? most of the people will have difficulties starting up but since I've been taught so I'm fine...)

To be more specific:

1. Just want to know what REV usually will be done? e.g. 3rd gear with decent speed, would you maintain it until it revs up to 3k? or would you up shift when passing 2k+? Usually I'm doing the latter so I guess this is why I'm having a sluggish/jerky up shift with 3rd and 4th gear. And would you still put on a little bit gas when engaging with 3rd and 4th gear?

2. What to do when approaching stop? Assuming you don't have enough distance to down shift each gear. EITHER: Break with the current gear and clutch in until it reach 1k rev and complete stop; OR: down shift at least once to a lower gear and break until complete stop?

Golf/GTI VII :: Back Brakes Are Not In Sync / Hard To Slow Down To A Smooth Stop

I drive a 2016 Golf TSI S and I am having this weird brake problem. Every time I try to modulate my braking, it would suddenly bite and brake hard then let go. It feels like the front and back brakes are not in sync or something. This happens when I am going slow or less than 20mph. Its really hard to slow down to a smooth stop especially in traffic when this happens.

Camry :: 2005 Solara V6 Slightly Revs Up From 3rd To 4th Gear Transition

I have recently done a battery disconnect hoping the issue was a glitch in the ecu/tcu as this has solved some clunkiness in my old audi. But the issue is till there.

I also went ahead and did a fluid change of the transmission at the dealer.

The issue is intermittent and the rpms just rev up slightly only on the 3rd and 4th transition and like I mentioned it is an intermittent issue.

I have read something about adjusting bands to the transmission? Is this solution applicable to the 05 solara v6 tranny? The old transmission fluid was pink and not black or burnt.

Golf V R32 :: Car Tends To Jitter During Takeoff From Dead Stop

I have purchased number 4024, in CW, and I am posting to ask about the transmission. During take off from a dead stop, the car tends to jitter. Not a fast repetitive jitter, more like a slow, stalling out feeling. a go stop go stop go stop go that blends in to each perspective motion. Now when I purchased the car, it had already been modified by member CWR32. The mods included GIAC software, intake, exhaust as well as suspension, bar, skid plate and all of that good jazz.

What I am trying to figure out is if any of your cars do or has done the same, either stock or modified. I have read something stating that the software controlling transmissions such as DSG determines how smooth the transition of gears will be. Is it possible that the tranny software was upgraded, is this tranny REALLY that clunky, does yours tend to do the same.

There is also a slight tendency for the car to jar roughly when put into reverse or first if i let off the brake quickly.

Golf/GTI VII :: Gravel Like Transition Between The Gates

I find that I often don't get smooth shifts; mostly to 2nd and 3rd. By this I mean I notice a gravel like transition between the gates. Doesn't happen all the time but I wonder if it's how I'm shifting versus the car. Or maybe the RPMs I shift at.

I did ask dealer to take a look and they said smooth and normal to them. I generally will shift when shift advice pops up on display. Also. I've noticed it doesn't happen as much if I pause the shift at the neutral point versus a single push gear to gear. Clutch is always to the floor for the entirety of the shift.

Golf/GTI VI :: Clunk Sound On Take Off / Reverse From A Dead Stop

The car is manual, 95.000 KM. The problem is everytime i put the car in gear and start rolling, I hear a loud thump/clunk coming from the underside of the engine.

The only mods on the car are intake, a tune and a dog bone insert. The clanking is way more apparent when i'm in reverse. Whether i'm backing out of my uphill driveway or on a flat surface, EVERYTIME the car is at a dead stop and I give it throttle, something clanks...

My mechanic had lifted the car. He thought it might have been suspension, but he ruled that out. He believes that it is in fact the dog bone insert that is faulty. Upon further inspection, the red insert (from USP I believe) had cracked. although the insert was visibly broken (I've had it for barely 5000 km's, WTF) I'm not entirely sure that that is what's making the clunking sound because that sound was there from before I had put the dog bone insert in place.

Golf V R32 :: Transmission Jerky - Clutch Slipping When Start Going From Dead Stop

So I took my car in for the recall last night and also told my service advisor that my transmission has been a bit jerky lately. Kind of felt like the clutch was slipping when you start going from dead stop, and clunk here, clunk there.

After their diagnostics it seems to be the Mechatronics unit, apparently about 50% of our cars had the issue. The part would have to be ordered from VW due to it being made per VIN and is on back order. They didn't have the reacall parts in stock so I had to leave my car there. Stuck in a bright red Jetta now.

Mercedes-benz :: 1984 - Gear Shifting Too Smooth?

Recently, a problem has developed with shifting gears in my 1984 Mercedes 300D. The shift feels too smooth as I move the gear shift knob from Park to Neutral and back. It doesn't catch when in Park. The car will still roll when in Park and the engine will not turn over. If I move the gear shift knob from Park to Neutral and back a few times and push the car a little, the engine will eventually turn over and crank. Sometimes it cranks in Park and sometimes in Neutral. Can you tell me what's causing this?

Jetta - Volkswagen :: 2013 - Acceleration Lag / Gear Shifting Not Smooth

My wife and I recently purchased a 2013 Jetta and have noticed some abnormal lag when accelerating. It's an automatic transmission and the gear shifts aren't as smooth as they should be. I have read that it is possibly related to the drive by wire system and may just be an inherent result of that system.

Prius (Gen 2) :: 2004 - Gear Shifter Not Smooth / Loud Clicking Sound

It's been about 2 year almost. The shifter is difficult shifting from default position to Drive position. It's like there is some (plastic) obstacles on the way, right at the turning point. I have to force it to the drive position, and I hear the pretty loud clicking sound

Sometimes it also stuck in drive position (if I don't force it back), but will come back to default position in 10 seconds by itself. It is unlikely some external objects got into there I believe.

Buick - Lesabre :: 1994 V6 Smooth When Idling In Park But Rough Idle In Gear?

1994 Buick LeSabre Custom 3.8 Litre V6 with 103277 miles.

It runs smooth when idling in Park, rough when I put it in gear when I am stopped (either drive or reverse) has hesitation when accelerating, it smooths out again when driving then it starts to drive rough at about 55 MPH.

Mechanic told me it was the plug wires. I replaced those and the plugs. This fixed the hesitation when accelerating issue, but the other issues remain (now even seem a little worse) I thought the plugs and/or wires were bad, so I rechecked the gauge on the plugs and traced to make sure I had the wires hooked up right. Everything seems in order.

I have added fuel injector cleaner, and changed the oil, oil filter, spark plugs, spark plug wires, air filter, flushed the radiator, and changed the thermostat. (For a tune up since it has admittedly been a while)....

Golf IV R32 :: Choppy Whining Noise While Decelerating In 1st Gear To A Stop?

Quick description: every part of any acceleration in any gear is completely normal. My only problem is when I decelerate downhill in 1st gear to a stop I get a whining sound up front that is choppy and sounds like it is coming from the center of the car, like transmission, ???

I am at 85k and replaced my transmission oil and rear diff. w. Amsoil 75w90 at 60k miles.

Some of the old posts question why I would be engine braking in 1st gear. It is because I have to "coast" out of a 6 floor parking garage. I never noticed the trouble at all because I am usually coasting in 2nd gear or neutral, but someone in front of me was extremely slow so I stopped and went to 1st gear then heard the noise. Like I mentioned, it only happens downhill (not under load).

Sound = "rum rum rum rum..." decreasing with speed as the car comes to a stop.

It's not a CV or wheel bearing because it only does it in 1st..
