Golf/GTI VI :: Engine Stalling / Cutting Out

Yesterday when I started up the engine it cut out and died on me a number of times. The engine would start but it would not hold the idle for more than about 10 seconds, then it would quickly drop down to about 500rpm and die. It felt like it was starved for fuel. I pressed on the accelerator to try and give it more gas, but it was a bit unresponsive. Car did this for about 5 or 6 times and then on the last time I was able to give it gas and keep the rpm up around 2,000, then it went back to working normally.

Car was warmed up and it had been parked for about an hour after a prior 30 minutes of normal driving.

There were no error codes thrown up or messages on the dash. Is this a sign of something that I need to be concerned about? Where would I even start looking for a problem? If this a something that would be covered under warranty I want find it sooner than later so I can get it fixed while I still have coverage.

Car is a 2012 MK6 GTI DSG with 17,000 mi.

Golf V R32 :: Throttle Cutting Out / Engine Returned To Idle

Last weekend I drove 200 miles non-stop. 4 times the throttle died on me, the engine returned to idle and the throttle pedal wouldn't do anything for 3-4 seconds. Then the car acted like everything was fine. No CEL, ABS, or traction lights. Scanned the car, NO CODES. This happened to my GTI 24V VR6 couple months before I sold it. VR6 issue?!? Checked VCDS and the engine has NO misfires whatsoever.

Golf/GTI VI :: Continuous Whistling While Under Normal Driving Conditions

Having issue where you get a continuous whistling while under normal driving conditions. I recently went to stage 3 Revo software using the Stasis Revo K04 upgrade kit, installed professionally. Have looked at all possible sources of the whistling, have narrowed it down to the the turbo itself. Can hear the car whistling from a good distance away from it. when not moving if I rev the engine i can reproduce the whistle as well, just not sustained. As soon as you press the throttle above 2400 RPM it starts whistling and continues to whistle as long as throttle is pressed. Car is almost un-drivable because of whistle.

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: 1999 - Erratic Throttle In Wet Conditions

I have a '99 Jetta 2.0, manual. In wet conditions (heavy slush/rain) the throttle will start to behave erratically, you can feel it against your right foot pulsing in and out. The feeling is almost similar to that when you put cruise control on and feel the car take over the throttle and pull it away from your foot and adjust its position. In fact, at first I thought it was a cruise control issue so I pulled the fuse - no better.

From deliberately driving through puddles in an attempt to isolate the issue, it seems that when something on the passenger side of the car gets wet the issue occurs, almost without fail if I drive through a big puddle on the passenger side. Once it starts, it continues for awhile (I guess until it dries). Even at a stop light, you can see the RPM's rise and fall and feel the throttle pulse without any input from the driver.

I have siliconed the ABS sensor on the passenger wheel, as it was the only exposed sensor I could see when I pulled the wheel off. My question: What sensor under the car could have an effect on throttle? Something is shorting or reading erroneous signals when wet and is causing the computer to think it needs to correct the throttle position. I'm at a loss as to what it could be and google searches have yielded little results.

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: Check Engine Light Comes On And Turns Off During Normal Driving Conditions

On my 2002 F250 7.3 I kept getting a check engine light when I pulled my 5th wheel uphill, I took it to a shop and they told me my HPOP needed replaced. I bought a new pump and installed it. Now my check engine light comes on and turns off during normal driving conditions. I do not have a code yet but hoping there is some idea on what might have happened.

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: 2000 Randomly Cutting Out

My Mk4 2000 Jetta 2.slow has been acting up, a week ago I went to pick something up from my fathers house and a minute later I cam back to start it to only have the idle strange,it as well the throttle being all sorts of weir till it cut out and I had to push it into the drive way. I has the coil pack tested, and it was measured to be right where it needed to buy. I then bought starting fluid and after spraying it into the air intake it started. I had it running till it cut out and had to redo it again. Then when driving home again after putting more in it stopped, I was able to start it again keep moving for another ten second before having it stop again. I am receiving no check engine lights, alternator is good and as wel as the battery.

GTI 337/20th Anniversary :: Boost Is Not Going Over 10 Psi And Engine Cutting Out

So I just installed a boost gauge. Vacuum line is running off the fuel pressure regulator. My boost is now not going over 10 psi and the engine is cutting out. It kinda feels like the dv isn't holding psi but just always open. The car is a 05 gli with intake and exhaust.

Also the car seems to be running alright at below 2000 rpm and it just starts to cut out when it should be making boost. And I'm pretty sure this car is reprogrammed because yesterday when I finished the boost gauge install it was running at19 psi.

My jetta has been cutting off at stop lights ... I've been reading all of the posts here and come to the conclusion that I needed to replace the crankshaft position sensor...once I found the sensor, hours later...I was able to remove it...it's been a week now, and the car runs great!

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: SAI Pump Cutting On Randomly While Driving

I recently replaced my SAI pump rivets with stainless bolts so everything is nice and tight. However, the pump will randomly cut on and run for a few seconds while driving... i notice it usually when I come to a stop, such as at a stop light. I would assume this is because there is an air leak somewhere in the SAI system... sound likely? Maybe purge valve? I haven't yet had it pressure tested in case there is something I can easily to to rule out most potential sources.

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: 2004 GTI VR6 Cutting Off After Driving About 20 Miles

2004 GTI VR6 24V Manual trans. My son's GTI has an intermittent problem that I think will be hard to pinpoint because it is intermittent. I will hopefully have more info this afternoon. Three time now after driving about 20 miles the car will cut off. Usually while slowing down to a stop or to make a turn. So far it has run great at highway speeds.

It has some random symptoms. I drove it to work and it happened to me. The first time I had slowed to about 20 to make a turn and it cut off. I made the turn and let out the clutch and it bump started and I made it to my work parking lot. While turning into the lot it cut off again so I coasted into a parking spot. This part has me puzzled it would not crank the starter. I moved the gear selector to every gear and nothing. I put it in reverse and the starter would crank but would not start.

Came back about an hour later and it started fine and acted like nothing wrong. Drove it home and again about 20 miles and it cut off again. This time it would crank in all gears but would not start. This time the EPC light came on. Left the car and came back later that night and it started fine, EPC light off and drove the last two mile home no problem. I am borrowing a friend from work computer with the VAGCOM software and hopefully will have more info.

Camry :: 2004 V4 Engine Has Started Sputtering / Cutting In And Out

What's the deal with making fuel filters difficult to replace? My engine has started sputtering (cutting in and out) and I began to wonder if it was the fuel filter. So, I investigated how to change it. Apparently it's part of the fuel pump and located in the fuel tank -- good grief.

A filter is there to catch stuff, and if it catches stuff it can get clogged, if it gets clogged it has to be replaced. It appears they put in the filter to catch stuff but assumed it never would.

Sonata I45 (LF 2015+) :: Engine Cutting Off Intermittently After Driving About 20 Ft?

Had driven about 3 miles, engine warmed up. Stopped at the store for about 5 minutes and cut motor off. I started engine, put in drive and after about 20 ft., the motor cut off. Luckily I was in a parking lot and coasted to a stop. Started up again and everything seemed ok. One thing I did notice was after the cutoff, all dash icons, (oil, brake, engine, etc) were on. I especially noticed the key icon, indicating key was not in car, was on. What happened? Is this something that I should have the dealer look at? I doubt they could ever replicate it.

Golf VI R :: High Rev Hesitation / Fuel Pump Cutting Out At Around 6000 Rpm

I have APR Stage I+ and love it. However, I've noticed at around 6000 rpm I'm getting what feels like the fuel pump cutting out like you would experience when you hit redline. Of course, stock redline is higher than 6000 and APR Stage I+ redline is even higher. So this shouldn't be happening.

Santa FE SM (2001-06) :: Engine Cutting Out For No Reason When Reached A Stoplight

Just replaced the Crankshaft Position Sensor (CPS) on my 2003 Santa Fe 2.7L at 157k miles due to the engine cutting out for seemingly no reason when I reached a stoplight, no codes were recorded though. Unfortunately, the frequency of cut out started to increase in recent years, to the point where it died on our local beltway in traffic at speed - too dangerous. The CPS on the 2.7L is accessible from under the front of the car; it's positioned on the engine just over the starter (front face of engine) and a closer to the transmission side of the engine. I've seen threads here where folks have replaced the CPS without removing the starter, but in my case I removed it because I just couldn't reach above and over the starter to remove the single bolt holding the CPS.

Removing the starter is easy enough, just two bolts holding the starter body and one bolt connecting the battery cable plus a couple of smaller wires. Be careful enough to clean around the CPS first before removal. When I removed the CPS I was surprised to find what you see in the attached close up photo of the old and new CPS's - the insulation around each of the three individual wires entering the CPS body from the connector was badly frayed, just crumbled off to the touch.

Lots of heat and road dirt over time degraded that wiring to the point that all three wires were bare and touching each other intermittently and shorting out the CPS signal to the ECM: No CPS reference signal means the engine will cut out until it gets restarted. Anyway, check out the photo and note the red circle I annotated to show wiring damage. The new part shown with the old for comparison in photo was only $30 at Advance Auto Parts, might be one of those sensors worth replacing to prevent trouble as the vehicle ages.

Sonata NF (2006-10) :: Knocking Sound From The Engine / Cutting Out After Idling

I was driving this morning after doing a brake job (nothing to do with the problem, just anger coming out) made it about 10 kms and noticed when i took my foot off the accelerator, the heater fan powered down a bit, and back up when I gave it gas...noticed a knocking sound from the engine...pulled into a gas station and put it in park. After a hard time idling, it cut out. I started it again and the idle was not good at all. kept cutting out. Got it going and made it home with the same sort of power issue. Tried to start it a couple times and same issue with the idle. Sputtering quite a bit and noticed quite a bit of exhaust coming out. When I backed it out of the garage, I noticed a small puddle of oil.

Kia - Forte :: 2010 - Engine Starts Cutting Out Or Hesitating And CEL Flashes Off And On

I have a 2010 Forte EX with 47,000 on it. It seems to have a "cold start" problem when temps are cold. For the first 10-15 min. when on the highway the engine starts cutting out or hesitating and the check engine light flashes off and on. It also stalls on occasion at stop lights. After those 10 min. the car runs fine. I have taken it to the Kia dealer and they have re-created the problem but was told there was no codes for the check engine light. So, apparently the dealer can't do anything without a code and Kia Corp. doesn't know what to do either! What could be causing this "cold start" problem, such as fuel pump, fuel filter etc? The dealer said they checked those things and those components check out. Are there no mechanics anymore or just computer techs that run diagnostics and let the codes tell them what is wrong?!!
