Golf IV / Jetta IV :: 2001 - Idle At Almost 10 Rpm Sitting Still?
What would cause and how to fix my Jetta. It will idle at almost 10 rpm sitting still? It also sputters as if trying to die. It has an after market air intake with a ktm air filter
View 4 RepliesGolf IV / Jetta IV :: 2004 - Overheating When Sitting Still Or At Idle
I have a 04 jetta 1.8t that just randomly started having some overheating issues. I just got the car two days ago, and the first day I had it I replaces the coolant temp sensor due to a check engine light. Drove 50 miles and the light shut off. Just yesterday I was sitting in traffic and noticed the temp going above 190 (which it hadn't done in the 200 miles id driven it so far). I brought it home and once I was out of traffic and moving along the temp went right back down to 190. The only time it tries to overheat is when its sitting still or at idle (after reaching operating temp). which is weird.
I was parked in my driveway and let it sit at idle for a few minutes until the temp started significantly rising. i revved it to 2000 rpm (thinking it would rise even more), but to my surprise it instantly went down to 190 again. my big fan isnt running either, but my friend said he doesn't run fans in his and that it shouldn't overheat because of the fan. also, my top hose is warm to the touch, but the bottom isn't. I know your thinking thermostat, but if that was the problem it would :
1: always overheat, or
2: never overheat.
The temp wouldn't fluctuate the way it is.
Golf V R32 :: Strange Idle When Stopping Or Sitting At A Red Light
I started noticing a strange idle when stopping or sitting at a red light. Upon stopping the car idles at around 600, then all of a sudden it jumps to around 1000-1100, and sits there as if I was giving it gas. As I drive off the car drives fine, once I stop again, the same thing repeats. This happen to me 2-3 times already within the past month, I mostly drive on the highway, so that might be a reason I don't notice it often.
View 5 RepliesGolf/GTI VI :: Sound Inside Dash When Sitting At Idle
About two days ago a noise started happening when I sit at idle... The moment I touch the throttle it goes away. It's rather loud and disconcerting.
The video starts off in drivers seat, then I took the phone to where the vent for the defrost is, and then below the glove box. It's audible everywhere.

View 4 RepliesGolf V R32 :: Odd Humming Sound While At Idle In Right Rear Inside?
This is my first all wheel drive car and same goes for having a car in which the battery is in the rear floor. My question is the following.. Whenever the car is on and radio off I hear a humming sound while at idle. At first I thought it was the SAT radio (while vol all the way down) but that was not it. Its coming from the rear right side and almost sounds like a fuel pump/something electrical. It kinda sounds like a transformer or something like that. Since the battery is in the back and there is a fuse relay box aprox. 3 inches from the spare tire, I wonder if all these electronics are making this noise? Or is my car coming to life?

Sometimes when my car as sitting at an idle in either drive or reverse the motor starts to make a knocking noise from the back of the motor towards the firewall side on the top of the motor. I have a video. The car has 114k I just changed the oil I thought maybe it's low but it's not and hasn't moved since it was changed.
View 4 RepliesLexus GX 2004-09 :: RPMs Started Surging While Idle And High Pitch Humming Noise When Accelerating
My girlfriend has a 2008 with around 120k miles on it. It's been pretty flawless but yesterday the RPMs started surging while idle and made kind of a high pitch humming noise when accelerating.
Today on her way to work she said the radio was going in and out, the battery light lit up and then the rest of the dash lights came on, and the speedometer stopped working.
What could be the problem? Could it just be the battery?
Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: 2004 F250 - Humming Noise From Engine At Idle
I have a 2004 ford f250 5.4 and ithe makes a Humming noise only at idle. I have checked the fan clutch. it seems to be good and does not spin freely. I was thinking maybe idle air control valve but the truck idles like normal and does not stall. the sound does go away when squeezing the air hose doing today the IAC but comes back as soon as you let off. can it still be the idle air control valve if idles fine and doesn't stall?
View 5 RepliesLexus IS 2014+ :: 2015 IS350 Idle Humming / Whistling Noise Coming From Driving Side Of Motor
Faint humming/whistling noise coming from the drivings side of the motor. I can hear it when I put my head next to the drivers wheel well, and most certainly from that side of the motor when the hood is popped. It's not super loud, but it is noticeable. I know we have Direct injection motors, so I know that ticking is completely normal. Am I overlooking this and being paranoid? Car has 2100 miles on it. I don't know if it was there when brand new.
View 1 RepliesGolf IV R32 :: Humming Noise At A Range From 30 - 60 Mph
So I recently bought a 2004 R32 after owning like 5 other vw's (always wishing they were R's). Anyway, I am experiencing some humming noise... not quite a vibration, but the "humming" is strong enough that you can sort of feel it through the car. The "humming" happens at a range from about 30-60 mph and is only present when I'm turning left, or when there is more force on the passenger side of the car. When I'm going straight, it is very slight, but if I turn even slightly to my left it gets louder/stronger. When turning right and force is off the passenger side and on the driver side, the symptom is not present. It seems like it's coming from my front end as well, not rear.
View 23 RepliesGolf/GTI VI :: Humming Noise Coming From Front
I have these in 225/40R-18 on VW Goal rims (MkVI GTi). Last month I hit a nice size pot hole and put a very small bend in the outer lip of the right front rim. No mark on the rim, so the tire took the hit. Had a peak inside and the tire was bruised pretty good. Around this same time I noticed a faint humming that seemed to be coming from the front. Figured an inner ply shifted so I replaced that single tire (10,000 on the others).
So the humming is still there and getting a little louder. I've rotated a couple times but the sound is the same. Non-distinct location; seems like it could be coming from all 4 corners.
Golf V R32 :: Humming Noise That Goes Away When Apply The Brakes
My AM radio has terrible reception. There is humming noise that goes away when I apply the brakes. I will bring it to the dealer, but I know what they will say, "cannot duplicate problem" or "radio operation found to be normal".
View 14 RepliesGolf IV R32 :: Humming Noise From The Front Of The Motor?
So I noticed while doing some cleaning under the hood today that something was humming or buzzing from the front of the motor. I also noticed that whatever it was was making my oil dipstick vibrate. Is this normal because I just left somewhere and the car had a little issue getting started. I had the battery and alternator tested on the way home and they are fine.
View 4 RepliesGolf V R32 :: Humming Noise Coming From Engine
So I've got an odd noise coming from my engine, sounds like a hum or quiet whine. Almost like the whine of a supercharger.
The noise does get louder when the rpm's increase. So wondering if had the tensioner pulley fail, if there were any noises associated with it prior to it failing?
Golf IV R32 :: Humming Noise Coming From The Right Rear Of Car
There is a humming noise coming from the right rear of my R, I'm going to guess that it is the furl pump running? If not I don't know what it could be, or if usually that loud...
Second, I was thinking of getting adjustable rear control arms. I was going to get just one set, to adjust the camber to 0.0 instead of the -1 or so that they usually ride.
Third, I was also contemplating getting upgraded motor, trans, and dogbone mount. I was told it would cut down on transmission noise while letting off the gas pedal whence driving.
Golf/GTI VI :: Engine Noise - Humming Or Low Pitch Squealing
I had the car checked for an odd noise that I've been noticing once the engine is warm. Almost like a humming or low pitch squealing. It's noticeable at idle and low speed from inside and outside the car. Very annoying considering the thing is a month old. Any way, I spent nearly 4 hours waiting and they came up with no solutions. Not a clue, a guess, nothing. The car is still driving normally and i needed it for tomorrow so I didn't keep it over as they suggested. The service manager said he hasn't seen anything like it, but also admitted he knew very little about the '10s. great.
View 10 RepliesGolf/GTI VI :: 2014 - Humming Noise During Long Distance Drive
I took control of a new GTI 2014 Wolfsburg last Thursday. I let my Jetta go early and was able to get into the GTI for a steal. Just got it tinted (photo above), already have a Unitronic intake on the way from CBTuning, I have KW V3's all set for installation, Stabila F+R swaybar in the garage, 034 endlinks in the garage, Whiteline W.A.L.K. kit in the garage, an SPM 3" 'track' downpipe currently on order, SPM trans and engine mounts on order, HPA puck in the garage, and am already working out plans for a custom cat-back exhaust. I will be going Stage II Unitronic for both engine and DSG and will be cleaning/tucking the bay a bit.
But first, a problem... On my first long distance drive to lower Delaware on Friday, I began hearing a 'hmm... hmm... hmm...' noise at 65+ MPH as I drove down 95. It go louder the faster I went, so I eased up figuring a tire or wheel was just screwy.
I brought it back to the dealership Friday afternoon and just had it returned today. All four tires had bald/flat spots and the front left had a nasty bubble, all of which they replaced at no cost, feeling that this was the issue and the solution.
However, I took it out tonight, about 2 hours ago, and the noise returned, the same hum at the same speed (65MPH) and up. I Google'd around and found some solutions that it could possibly just be a bad wheel bearing. The car is brand new and as of tonight, I only have 340~ miles on it. Also, the noise is not constant, but rather every other second, 'hmm.... hmm.... hmm....'.
