Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Check Engine Light Came On / P0135 Code For Sensor Heater Circuit
I have a 2002 Jetta 1.8t. My check engine light came on and it gave me the code P0135 sensor heater circuit. Bank 1 Sensor 1. We bought a new 02 sensor and replaced it. We definitely bought the right one too. Cleared the codes. After a little driving the CEL came back on with the same code P0135. What is wrong and how I can fix this?

I have a 2002 VW GTI, it's entirely stock and I can't get rid of this lean code. Compression is Good. Injectors are Good, Vacuum Limes are Good, Spark Plugs are Good, Coils are Good!!!!!. I only have two weeks to pass inspection in DE, I'm a college student and as most of us know, that mean $0 for car repair.
View 3 RepliesDodge - Dakota :: 2002 - Throwing P0132 / P0158 / P0135 / P0138 Codes
My 2002 Dodge Dakota Extended Cab pickup is throwing several different 02 sensor codes. The first one was P0132. I reset the CEL and it ran good for about 1800 miles (100,140) on the odometer now. Now I'm getting a P0158 code and CEL went off after a few miles. Now it's back to a P0135 and P0138 code. Are the 02 sensors really bad or is there an underlying problem with the wiring or the computer. The truck runs like new when the CEL is off. The P0132 has never shown up again. The engine is the 3.9 V6 and is 2WD.

View 1 RepliesGolf IV / Jetta IV :: 2002 - Got Error Code P0171 And Now Won't Start?
2002 Jetta 1.8L Turbo running fine. Then one day driving on the freeway at about 70, I try to pass someone and notice when I push the gas the engine lulls. I back off the gas and accelerate slower and I can get up to speed. Drive it all the way home and its fine a t low speeds. Turn the car off and try to restart it and it wont start. Turns over but wont start. No CEL or anything else, I check the codes and I have a P0171 (Lean fuel Bank 1). Where do I start? Also car is parked in an underground garage. No chance of a tow out of this place, it may soon be a Jetta tomb.

View 1 RepliesGolf IV / Jetta IV :: CEL With The Code P0401 Came On
I picked up a 03 Jetta TDI about a month ago to use as a daily driver so I could park my Jeep. This is my first diesel so still getting used to some of the quirks and what is normal and what is not.
First problem is a CEL with the code P0401 - Exhaust gas recirculation flow insufficient detected. Now there seems to be a lot of information online about this and how to fix it and everything has something different to say. I live in a cold climate, its already -2 and going to get to -20 - -30 at some points so I'm not looking to to a EGR delete as my understanding is that it takes longer to heat up?
Next, being my first diesel, I'm used to turning heat on and driving for a minute and having heat. Not so much in the Jetta. It can idle for 20 minutes before I head out the door and its throwing warm air but the engine temp is a dead 0. Not until I get on the highway and drive for another 15 min do I actually start getting close to operating temp. Being its only about 0 celsius at the moment...
Other trouble spot is the steering, considering this thing weights next to nothing and has tiny wheels, it is about 4x harder to turn the wheel then it is in the Jeep on 35's. I also seem to get this shrieking/whining from the engine bay about 5-10% of the time when moving the steering wheel and the vehicle is under 5 km/h.
Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Got CEL For Code P0010?
just bought an mk4 1.8 jetta and so I love it, however I'm having a couple issues. I've got a cel for code p0010 something about the camshaft position sensor. I changed the sensor with a new one and the problem is still there. I've got pretty much full power but no turbo spool and my boost gauge tops out at 5-6 psi.
View 5 RepliesGolf IV / Jetta IV :: Getting P0300 Code?
Yesterday I went to star my 2.0 Jetta and it instantly starting sputtering at idle. After maybe a minute of sputtering the car died. Tried restarting it and it would instantly die after starting. Car threw code P0300: Random Misfire.
As of today the car now runs again with no problems. No codes. I didn't touch a thing and it seems to have resolved itself.
The entire engine bay was wet from condensation due to temperature change. Is there any way this could've contributed to the misfiring? I'm thinking the spark plug wires might have gotten wet and that was causing the misfire.
Golf IV / Jetta IV :: No CEL But Still Have A Code P0237

View 4 RepliesAccord :: 1997 LX 2.2L - Codes P0135 And P0141 / Changed Oxygen O2 Sensors
I changed both oxygen sensors yesterday on my 1997 Accord.
Check Engine Light was on and I was getting codes:
P0135 - O2 Sensor Heater Malfunction Bank 1 Sensor 1
P0141 - O2 Sensor Heater Malfunction Bank 1 Sensor 2
Also, after clearing the codes, if I started the vehicle the codes would come on instantly. So it wasn't some kind of flaky electrical issue, it was consistent.
Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Code P0170 Pop Up When Cruise Around 30 To 40 Mph
I am plagued with p0170. Since it started getting the code I have Cleaned maf sensor that was on car (didn't work).
Replaced maf sensor with cheap generic replacement (didn't work).
Thinking it was just a cheap maf I bought a not cheap oem one (didn't work )
Replaced front o2 sensor (didn't work)
Tested intake track for leaks. (No leaks ) boost gauge also reads 25 in hg which also means no major leaks from what I read Tested fuel pressure, and it was perfect.
Changed spark plugs to nkg coppers gapped at .28 (I have a stage 2 ecu but am currently using stock one until issues resolved )
Only think I have not replaced are the spark plug coils and the map sensor.
I also plan on getting a after market wideband o2 sensor so I can see what's going on.
It also seems to pop up when I cruise around 30-40mph. I have taken the car for long drives after clearing codes on high ways amd high speed roads going 45+ and the code won't pop then. Only seems to at lower speeds .
Golf IV / Jetta IV :: CEL Turned On With Code P1116
I've recently had some problems with my 2000 Jetta VR6, so in the past couple months I've replaced the alternator and the coolant flange/thermostat housing. I bring this up because right after i finished fixing the coolant leak, i got a check engine light. I had screwed up, though, and switched 2 of the spark plugs when i was putting things back together and I assumed that was what caused the CEL to turn on. I put the spark plugs back in the right place after a minute or 2 of confusion... but the light has stayed on for about the past month. Got it to turn off by unplugging the battery for a bit, but it came back on after a couple minutes at idle. Took it to Autozone... and the P1116 code that pops up says "O2 sensor heater circuit open bank1 sensor 1." I feel like it was probably something that I have done to cause this problem, not actually just a part I need to replace based on the timing of the CEL.

View 2 RepliesGolf IV / Jetta IV :: Getting P1128 Code - Can't Drive
P1128. Have had the code over and over!! No vacuum leaks and I've been through 2 MAFs. I've cleaned the throttle body, changed intake manifold gasket, changed plugs and wires, and put a new air filter in.
The code comes back every few months or so and the car becomes undriveable. Last changed my MAF back in December and the code is back already. What am I missing?
Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Got Error Code P0107?
So finally got past the smog cert issue and a bad map sensor in the intercooler. However, during the smog test, I was informed I am getting low air pressure in the intake! What causes this? A bad MAF? a leak? I have replaced the EGR, and all rubber that connects hard pipes. The only piece not changed out during the rebuild is the plastic flex line from the airfilter box to the turbo intake.
View 2 RepliesGolf IV / Jetta IV :: 2002 - Won't Start Sometimes?
Now I'm back and just picked myself up 2002 Golf GTI with fairly low kms for its year. Anyway when i test drove and checked through it all everything seemed fine. Basically she won't start 1/6 times. So for example of the amount of usage she had today:
AM - Drove to work this morning, started fine from cold (its just come into winter so probably around 12 degrees Celsius).
PM - Drove home from work, started fine from cold
Evening (3 hours approx. after driving home) - started fine from cold, drove 5 mins, stopped at gas station, started fine and drove another 5 min then stopped and parked.
After parking, i decided to move her closer to the building for security but when i cranked her she would turn over but not start. Tried this 2 or 3 times (probably flooded the engine).
After about 1 1/2, jumped backed in, started first time but took a few seconds to start with foot slightly on gas. Checked the fuel pump, i can hear it switching on so can rule that out.
I'm suspecting its a battery issue based on history (has had all the major service parts done timing belt, fuel pump etc) and for the majority of its life, its actually just sat in a garage, according to the dealer (old guy that lived and worked in the city owned it before me) and that this just needs replacing. The battery doesn't look old however under the bonnet it is stupidly clean so might not be an indication of anything.
I haven't had a flat battery for a while though but from what i remember, a flat battery just clicks or even struggles to turn over? Any simple things i can check myself? Just went downstairs to check fuel pump, thats switching on and car started fine 4 times in a row.
Golf IV / Jetta IV :: 2002 GLS Doing About 13 MPG In City
Mk4 2.0 GLS 2002. I'm guessing the title clearly introduces the problem, I think I should be getting around the 21MPG mark in city with my Golf. I have changed alot of things to try and improve the mileage but it's not getting any better.
I've changed the Air Mass Sensor, both oxygen sensors, the catalyze, spark plugs, done some work to the gear, fixed leakage in the automatic clutch, and I have done some deep cleaning to the engine.
