Golf/GTI VI :: 2011 - Heat Shield Rattling Sound Coming From The Underside
So, I have discovered my first rattle in my GTI (8500 miles). Seems to be from the underside, sounds like a heat shield rattling, certainly sounds metallic. Did some spirited driving yesterday and hear the rattle today. Any target areas to check when I take a look under it?
View 6 RepliesSanta Fe (DM - 2013+) :: Hissing Sound Coming From Underside Of Vehicle
I have a 2016 SFS 2.0T.
For the past week or so, I've been noticing a hissing sound coming from underneath the car near the front driver side area.
It almost sounds like air being let out of a tire. It only happens when the car is turned on, and the sound is there when the car is in park or in gear.
Not noticing any change when driving the car.
Ford Excursion :: 2000 - Ticking Sound Coming From Underside / U-Joints?
Yesterday morning taking off out of my driveway I heard a ticking sound. Kinda metal on metal sounding. It sounds like middle of truck underside. Only on acceleration. It does also clunk at times or ping when I put it in gear.is this u joints? Hopefully not rear end. Its a 2000 limited ex. with the v10.
View 7 RepliesGolf IV / Jetta IV :: Loud Metal Scrapping Sound While Driving
Driving my golf to take daughter to airport, all or a sudden there is this very loud metal scrapping sound. So I pull over and see this metal bat hanging from under the car and rubbing on the ground. At this point I'm not sure what it is and cant really budge it or dislodge it.
Anyway called for roadside assistance and a towtruck comes. The guy lifts the car a bit and is able to free this metal rod. Its about 1.8m (6ft) long and about 5mm thick (approx). Couple of photos below. Not sure if its part of suspension, steering or something else. Did have a mobile mechanic today doing some work on the cooling system (flange) he had to jack up the car.

Golf V R32 :: High Pitched Noise Coming From Rear / Center Underside Of The Car
Whilst driving on the motorway at the weekend I noticed a very load high pitched noise which seemed to be coming from the rear/centre underside of the car. It lasted for about 30 seconds and then went. It has happened before about two months ago and after the first instance I had the haldex and rear diff oil changed. On both occasions it has been very wet on roads with torrentian rain.
View 2 RepliesSanta Fe (DM - 2013+) :: Popping Sound From Underside After Car Is Off
After 1-2 mins I turn off my car I hear a popping sound from under the car. Usually it goes after some sounds of cooling down the metal and ticking, and then a pop sound. Nothing during the driving. I did some research and found that it may be Catalytic Converter cooling down or the heat shield.

I'm the loudest Prius in CT right now. My brakes doing that loud scraping sound. Is it normal to need brakes this soon?
View 6 RepliesMitsubishi - Lancer :: 2005 - Scrapping Sound On Driver Side Window When Goes Up
The driver side window on my 2005 Lancer goes down okay, but when I raise it, it goes up very slowly and sounds like there is something scraping against the window. It started after the first ice/snow of the season after I moved up to Michigan (from Texas...where we don't know how to deal with this stuff). I have an uncovered parking spot so at first I suspected that some ice got stuck in there during the storm, but it's gotten significantly above freezing several times since this started, so I would think it would have melted by now if it's just ice. It has gotten a little better since then but it's still having problems, so I'm starting to think it's some dirt/sand/other gunk that's still stuck in there. Side note--this window never quite completely seals very well ever since I had some body repair done on that door...so that might have contributed to this problem.
Is it safe to continue using that window? It still "works", it's just slow and noisy, and it doesn't seem to be doing any visible damage to the glass. Is there a risk of completely burning out the motor?
Lexus RX 2004-09 :: Rattle Sound From Front Underside When Taking Off
I've been getting some "heat shield like" sounding rattle from the underside of the car when taking off. It seems to be coming from under the engine area, I don't think it's the heat shield over the cat since I've had that before and that was the first thing I checked, it's all tight. Is there another shield under the engine that can cause this?

So I've been driving my 3GS 350 and every time i make a right turn the left wheel makes this metal shaking sound? or scraping sound? I've checked it out seems like nothings in the way but I don't know how to tell if i have a bad wheel bearing..
View 9 RepliesElantra XD (2001-06) :: Grinding Sound On Initial Acceleration From Park / Scrapping Noise During Braking
2001 Hyundai Elantra, with an automatic transmission.
1. I am experiencing a "grinding" sound upon my initial acceleration from park? This only occurs when the car has been sitting for a decent amount of time and the engine is relatively cold. To give you more detail: I start the car, throw it in gear and begin to accelerate. The grinding sounds is almost instant and sounds horrible. It is fairly consistent how long it lasts and generally once the car shifts to 2nd or 3rd it goes away. I do not hear it again until I park, leave the car for a while, then start it up and begin driving again.
2. I am hearing a "tension" like noise, also a little like scraping, when I brake at slow speeds coming from my driver side front wheel. I recently had my brakes replaced so I know its probably not the pads and at the time the rotors looked fine too. It is not a constant noise during the breaking either meaning, I apply the breaks, i hear it for a second, then it goes again, then it comes back, then goes away. Again it sounds like a mix between scrapping metal and tension.
What it could be, what I could look at on my own or how to get it resolved?
Camry 2012+ :: Lower RPM Electric Motor Noise Coming From Underside Of Back
Last night when I went out into the garage, I heard the sound of a small, lower RPM electric motor. After walking around a bit, I found it coming from the underside of the back of the Camry. I got in and turned the key to the "on" position and it went away. The car had been parked for about 5-6 hours. I've never heard this noise before.
View 6 RepliesSubaru - Impreza :: 2002 - Noise Like Scrapping A Plastic Fork Against Metal Coming From Back Passenger Side Of Car
Less than a week ago I bought a 2002 Subaru impreza outback sport. Fun little car. However two days after I bought it I started to notice a noise coming from the back passenger side of the car. It sounds sort of like scrapping a plastic fork against metal. I have looked everywhere for anything that could be making the noise, as it seems to be coming from inside the car. IT also seems to get worse the longer I drive. I commute to work, and so for the first 10 minutes it's silent, then gets louder and louder, by the time I get to work its noticeably loud.
View 2 RepliesGolf/GTI VI :: Oil Leak On The Underside Of Engine
Had the "G" in the driveway and noticed a very small wet spot (definitely oil) on the garage floor today. Looked underneath and can see a wet spot (not very wet) on the underside the engine, but without a lift... can't get a good look to see the exact source of the leak.
With that said --- it's headed to the shop Monday morning. Oil level is good... so it's not a huge leak by any means.
Golf VI R :: Rubbing / Scrapping And Rattling Noise When Off Accelerator?
Last night pulling into a parking lot, I caught something on the lip of the entrance and there was a loud clunk. Naturally I looked for a different exit from the parking lot, but there wasn't one and on the way out I hit it again. Since then, I've had a loud scraping/rubbing/rattling noise whenever I'm off the accelerator. I haven't been able to get under the car to check things out, but my suspicion is that the resonator is rubbing on the driveshaft, and when I push the gas, the resonator moves down out of the way.
View 1 RepliesGolf V R32 :: Slight Scrapping Noise Every Time Drive Off At Low Speeds
I've been hearing a slight scrapping noise almost every time I drive off at low speeds. It definitely is a metal to metal sound but only is heard once or twice and then its gone. The dealership have checked suspension, wheel bearings, etc. and they say everything looks good and is tight. I dont think its anything steering cuz it happens when driving straight and nothing else feels out of the norm. I just had my 30k service done and I also had them do an alignment (found my front toe and rear camber needed adjustment) and the noise is still there.

View 5 RepliesGolf/GTI VI :: Underside Coating Peeled Off At Lifting Point
The underside coating is peeled off where the vehicle lifter makes contact. Is this normal or does this indicate the dealer lifted the vehicle incorrectly?
I went only to dear so far. It was done by the dealer. The bright metal is exposed. I did not notice rust yet.
I happened to notice the peel off while I was installing mud flaps myself.
Golf/GTI VI :: Leaking Gasoline / Fuel On Underside Of Tank
My '10 Golf TDI started leaking gasoline this morning, found smallish puddle in the garage. Looked underneath and there was definitely fuel on the underside of the tank. Moved the car into the driveway so the leaking fuel can evaporate.
Not sure what happened. I did hit something on the highway yesterday, a piece of tire from a semi went underneath the car. Of course it's been really hot 100+ deg lately. Maybe a fitting has come loose?
I'm not going to risk driving it, but can't do anything about it until monday. I'll call the shop and see what they recommend, tow or drive.
