Prius (2010-12) :: Engine Splash Shield Fell Off

The engine splash shield to my 2010 Prius fell/tore off after ran over some chunks of ice and snow. (The plastic "flap" that folds down to allow access to the oil filter and drain plug. My local dealership says I need to replace the entire plastic lining under the vehicle to the tune of $250+.

Prius (2010-12) :: Removing Cracked Splash Shield?

I seem to have cracked the black plastic part located directly under the front bumper. When I was parking it caught rebar and pulled it and it cracked. The pressure clip popped out but I was able to pin it back in. Is this called correct a splash shield? Again it's that black piece of plastic immediately under the regular bumper.

It has caught before in the past and I am considering just removing it completely. If it is indeed the piece it looks like online the part is around 35-40.

I'm halfway tempted to just leave it. If the car were new its a different story but if it works just taking it out without any issues then that's certainly an option too.

Prius (2004-09) :: Running Without Upper Splash Shield

My question is this. Is it imperative that the upper splash shield be installed on the Prius at all times?

I am trying to monitor the level in the radiator to see if there is a leak. I want to remove the splash shield and drive the Prius for an extended amount of time without the shield in place.

Will this cause any sort of problem? Refer to item #27 in the picture below for more detail of the part I am asking about.

Prius (2010-12) :: Engine Cover / Splash Shield Popped Off Suddenly

Today, on the way to the Lego User Meeting in Virginia driving at 65 mph in the morning on 495 - the oil change access door of my 2010 Prius III engine cover/ splash shield ( part 51410-12101) popped off - it made a popping noise when it broke. Couldn't stop because I was in the middle of a superhighway. It was half way off when I got to the meeting in VA. The Prius is so low - the shield was impossible to reach without a lift. On my way back home to Maryland, the oil change access door fell off completely albeit I didn't see or hear it fall off. My 3 year warranty is up and I have +38000 miles on the odometer so I'm pass the TSB 0032-11 coverage now. I've raised my car on Monday _ nothing else is damage - san a missing oil change access door.

On my '12 F-150 Ecoboost there is a substantial opening in the lower center of the vehicle. I know that you can purchase a small after-market grill insert for that area. Is it wise to do that, or is in fine the way it is?

Come out to the this am and notice a small puddle that was not there last night. Pull the car out and it's start burning something off. Roll the car in first thought is oil (maybe the turbo return line is leaking) no its coolant. On the lower portion of the down pipe and running across the bottom. I'm at a loss as where the leak could be coming from being back there.

I have a really small leak coming from the lower end of my power steering hose, it's super small, I was wondering if I could fix this by wiping it down really well and dry, and then layering it with plasti-dip. I think the leak is small/slow enough for me to get in a few good layers. Would this be an okay fix, or would the plasti-dip separate fast?

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: 2003 F250 V10 - Heat Shield Rattle That Sounds Like Exhaust Leak During Loaded Acceleration

I recently purchased this truck and have towed a couple of times with it. It has 98,000 miles and I do not know if the automatic transmission fluid has been changed. Should I have it flushed or drop the pan and change it? I have a lift so doing the change is no problem, although it might be worth it to pay a transmission shop to do it.

Also, I hear what appears to be like a heat shield rattle or something that sounds kinda like an exhaust leak during loaded acceleration. What to look for to locate the noise? One last question, the air bag light is on sometimes then off sometimes. Any known air bag light issues? I love the truck, hate the gas mileage!

Ordered my TBE couple of weeks ago, installed last week. I have been running the 100 octane tune for an entire week. Decided a couple of days ago to put it back to stock to see the difference. When I was running the 100 oct, I was pretty much on it the whole time. When I went back to stock I noticed some heat shield noise so I took it back to have them take a look. While on the lift I noticed a lot of soot in three different places.

Golf IV R32 :: Rattling Sound Like A Heat Shield

I have a major rattling sound from under my car... it sounds exactly like a heat shield. I have been up under my car 5 times and I can not find a loose shield anywhere. the cat insulator mesh is still in perfect condition and it now seems the sounds is coming from somewhere in the back of the car, perhaps the muffler area.

This car does have the flapper mod done... could there be something inside the muffler itself? the car only has 40k on the ODO and I have not hit anything or do not have a dented muffler. As a fellow VW'er I do not want to be the only one running around town rattling...

I have what I think is a heat shield rattling at around 2500-2700 rpm. or maybe not? It's not that noticeable but it's driving me mad

Is there a more simple answer that it could be? Keep in mind I claim very very little mechanical knowledge.

I am going to my dealer tomorrow for something unrelated and I kinda want to get a head start when I go to talk to the service dudes.

I have a CTS Turbo intake and have recently purchased a heatshield. It did not come with instructions. I tried installing it this weekend and it was a no go. I'm assuming the pieces for the factory engine cover in the rear is what the heatshield needs to replace to bolt on. I couldn't get those off for the life of me.

I am leaking coolant at a slow drip but over a couple days my coolant light will come on due to low levels. I climbed under the car and I'm leaking right where the o2 sensors are on the exhaust. The coolant is dripping down from the exhaust shield which was just hanging there when I got under the car.

Golf IV R32 :: Catalytic Converter - Heat Shield Rattle

The catalytic converter shield is tack welded on the front end but free on the rear end. There was originally some braided wire packing at the rear to keep the shield from rattling against the pipes. Mine was deteriorated and had been damaged, I think, when I sustained some oil pan damage last summer -- big jolt to the system when running over a muffler on the highway.

The fix is simple. Bought a foot of 3/16" braided stainless steel cable. I used about 8 inches and layed in the lower bead line on the catalytic converter shield (see picture below). You can see a bit of the cable thru the gap in the upper/lower shield on the left side. (1/4" cable would be a better fit, but this will work for a long time.) Cost: $1.84

The local VW parts man dug out an exploded drawing of the system but it showed NO parts or packing for this problem.

Golf IV R32 :: Heat Shield Rattle Noise In 4th Gear

I am very mechanically inclined and up until now I can usually hear a noise and know exactly what the problem is, given enough time to listen..

The best I can describe the noise I am hearing, sounds like a cross between heat shield rattle or a syncro somehow stretched out and is loosely spinning around once in gear.. Hard to explain, but all gears shift perfectly..clutch was replaced at 102K and I am currently at 130K. Also I might be crazy but it sounds like I am starting to hear the noise in 3rd as well. I would post a sound clip, but its so faint it doesn't show up on my iphone..

The reason I am throwing it out there, is because half of the seriously trusted mechanics I know say it sounds like a bearing in the tranny going out, the other half, (3 of 6) can't even hear what I am talking about but its there.

Golf IV R32 :: Rattling From Under Car - Heat Shield Continually Loosens

Looking for a cure for a heat shield that continually loosens, and causes a annoying rattle? I have been up under the car and re-tightened the suspected shield a couple times, the screw that holds the clip is not damaged, and the clip itself is not damaged... and on top of it all, I can never quite get that clip on tight enough to stop the rattle all together. is there a tool to get it tighter? i use micro needle nose pliers that fit and tighten it that way.
