Lexus RX 2010-15 :: 2013 RX350 Thunk From Back When Coming To A Stop
Our 2013 RX350 makes an annoying thunking noise, coming somewhere from the rear underside of the car, every time you come to a complete s stop, e.g. at a traffic light. I had a test drive with a mechanic from our Lexus dealership, and he told me that every 2013 RX350 he ever drove made that noise. Is that true?

View 14 RepliesGolf/GTI VI :: Manual Transmission - Shift From 3rd To Neutral (bypassing 1st And 2nd) When Coming To A Stop?
On a manual car, I know it's not the best thing to go from neutral, completely bypass 1st gear, and shift to 2nd gear. As well as 3rd to 5th bypassing 4th. However, is it the same for downshifting into neutral or another gear? Will it hurt the transmission to go from 3rd to neutral (bypassing 1st and 2nd) when coming to a stop? I do know that shifting from 4th to 2nd gear and bypassing 3rd will harm your tranny. I just want to double check if I'm right...

View 12 RepliesPassat (B6) :: Thunk / Snapping Sound When Break Hard Or Take Off Fast From A Stop
Sometimes it happens at slow speeds too but it's so random that I know it will never do it at the dealer. I can't say "When I take off fast or stop hard it makes a weird sound" it's a lease and they will probably blame me for whatever is wrong. Sometimes the tranny doesn't feel right either. I had a Jeep Grand Cherokee LTD that made a similar sound and it was bushings but this car has only 4,000 miles on it. What should I do?
View 2 RepliesHyundai - Accent :: 2002 Auto Transmission - Downshifts With A Jerk / Thunk
2002 Hyundai Accent with automatic transmission. This problem happens only if I floor the gas gas on the highway (trying to pass somebody or get out of the way in a hurry) or if I apply too much gas after coasting around a sharp turn. My car will then downshift with a jerk and an audible THUNK!. Right now I just avoid those situations and it shifts through all its gears fine, it only happens when I cause a sudden downshift. Transmission fluid level and color fine.
View 1 RepliesPassat (B6) :: Thunk Noise Coming From Rear But Only When Going Over Speed Bumps
So on the 16th I had my Koni FSD kit installed with a set of Driver Gear springs (30mm drop) and used the ECS Tuning install kit for both front and rear.
The issue I'm trying to troubleshoot is a 'thunk' noise coming from the rear but only when going over speed bumps or any other major bumps/dips.
Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: Thunk Coming From Wheel Hub Upon Braking
Ok so my left front wheel hub (from what it sounds like) might be on its way out. Upon braking there is a "thunk" that sounds like its coming from said wheel hub and I can feel it in the floor. Also when turning sharply at low speed in (either in 2h 4h 4l) and then braking there is also a lovely grinding noise coming from again what sounds like the wheel hub area. So without tearing open the wheel hub what can I do to actually properly diagnose without taking it to a shop.
Also, lets a assume its the wheel hub and associated parts, what all do i need to buy parts and tools wise in addition to the wheel hub itself. I've seen 2 or 3 trucks so far this winter with shattered hubs.
Passat (B7) :: Transmission Jerk When Coming To A Complete Stop
When coming to a complete stop, whether from 5 mph or 50 mph. After I've been stopped for about 2 - 3 seconds, the transmission feels like it gives a little jerk. It feels something like a car coming out of gear without the clutch pushed in (not quite that severe but that's the general feeling).
View 9 RepliesHonda - Cr-v :: 1997 - Intermittent Thunk Noise Coming From Front Passenger Side
There is an intermittent “Thunk Ah” noise coming from what appears to be the front passenger side of my ’97 CRV. Occurs while driving slow or fast, on turns or while driving straight. No vibrations felt, no shaking or movement of steering wheel, CRV drives straight even when hands are off steering wheel. Noise can happen on smooth or bumpy road but bumps will not always create the noise. When CRV was on the lift the mechanic found problems with right strut and left tie rod end – both front struts were replaced along with the left tie rod end and then an alignment was done.
After this CRV continues to make the noise. I always back into my driveway, which is on a slight incline, and park level in my carport with the wheels turned to the left. Twice, within the last week, I parked with the wheels turned to the right. I found that when I parked this way with the wheels turned to the right, I couldn’t get the CRV to produce the “Thunk Ah” noise until later in the day after driving and then parking at work. Mechanics are stumped and don’t know what else to explore.
Camry :: 2005 XLE V6 Transmission - Light Forward Jerk When Coming To A Stop
I recently purchased a 2005 Camry XLE V6 (100K miles). Its in great condition and no issues except I am observing this:
-> When I come to stop (like at a stop sign), just before coming to complete stop, there is a slight forward jerk. When I come to stop slowly and smoothly, there is no problem.
the faster I come to stop the more severe is the jerk. I tried to search for answers on the web, one possibility is bad solenoid in the transmission.
Passat (B6) :: Transmission Bang / Thump When Coming Off The Highway Or Taking Off At A Stop
I am having a very intermittent thump/bang/slip in my front end when coming off the highway or taking off at a stop. Believe it or not this is when i drive the car perfectly normal and don't stomp on it which I haven't done much with this car.
I was under the car the other day and noticed neither the dogbone mount bolts looked to have been replaced and i saw the back subframe bolts look to be moving around due to rubbing marks on the subframe.
Car has been in three times to seacoast volkswagen this last time the tech drove with me and they wont do anything because they cant replicate the problem.
I noticed its between 4 to 3rd down shift and 1st to 2nd up shift that it happens so far. It is LOUD and extremely noticeable and feels almost like a slip and heavy bang.

View 3 RepliesFord Transmission :: 1992 - Dies While Coming To Stop - Disconnect TCC Circuit?
I have a quick torque converter question. I have a '92 F-250, 351W, E4OD. When I come to a stop the engine dies. I know it is the torque converter clutch staying engaged. I do have a TCC code stored. I'm wondering if there is a way to disconnect the TCC so it never goes into lock-up, since it only seems to happen after I've reached higher speeds and it goes into lock-up. I thought maybe a wire from the PCM to disconnect? I have All-data access, but it doesn't have wiring diagrams for the trans. Which wire, color and pin number, and if this will work? I know it's not the proper repair, but I have $17 into this truck, it's pretty rotted, and I'm just looking to get by until spring. I don't drive much, but occasionally I need to get somewhere.

View 7 RepliesFord Excursion :: 2001 V10 E4OD - Transmission Slipping In 1st - Stutter When Coming To A Stop
2001 Excursion V10 with E4OD. Transmission is around 4 years. Old with 40-50K on it. Here's my timeline of problems.
Day 1. Went to dive and it slipped and caught taking off. Never felt that before. I drove it about 7 miles, no problem, when coming to a stop it stuttered a little. Checked fluid it was OK. Added some SeaFoam. Seemed worse and thought I was outta luck.
Day 2. I dropped the pan and found the normal metal around magnet plus a few metal shavings(not brass). Not many. I took it to a tranny guy and he said something inside has failed but he wasn't sure what. I changed filter, used same fluid as it looked ok, put it back together and added Lucas treatment. It moves ok, still slipping around 15% of the time on takeoff. After moving it runs/shifts great.
Golf V R32 :: Thunk Sound From Front Right Suspension?
I have FK Highsport coilover and have had them installed for a little under a year. After about 6 months I started hearing this thunk sound coming from the front right suspension. The sound only happens when I turn right, and when I turn from right to straight. I haven't had the time to pull it apart yet. I was thinking that it might be a binding spring.

View 14 RepliesGolf IV R32 :: Minor Hesitation And Audible Thunk When Release Parking Brake
Quick background. 1+ years ago I'd sometimes get the "moo" when in reverse. It was intermittent and never enough or a persistent issue to address. Recently, no moo, but I noticed when I'd release the parking brake and move forward there'd be a minor hesitation and an audible thunk, not too pronounced, then it'd roll freely from then forward.
Replaced rear brakes a few weeks ago, noticed the right side parking brake arm doesn't reset as far free as the left. Pushing it 'home' by hand made a little thunk in the cable house up near where it bends towards the vehicle's midline. Brakes installed, and it spun freely by hand with perhaps only a very small amount of 'hiss' but not consistent for a full revolution, only periodically. Lubed both cables from the center console.
Last night installed parking brake return springs, set and released the parking brake a few times to see how it felt. Right side looks like it still does not return home 100% (maybe, 2-3mm away, same as before). Today, made a run to Napa. Got there fine, when leaving, drop the parking brake, and as I'm grabbing reverse I get a yellow dash light and a "check brake pads" warning. I drove about a block, pulled over, shut off engine, got underneath (no parking brake set) and the arm seemed to sit about where it should. I drove a few miles at low speed, pulled over (left engine running, set parking brake), checked temp of all rotors (both sides) with my finger, nothing noticeable. Drove a few more, repeated the above (engine running, brake set) and temps were still cool.
Got home, replaced fans. Started up to test fans, and the error isn't there now.
If it was going to throw an error I'd more likely expect it when leaving home, where I had cycled the parking brake handle multiple times. No error there, or en route to Napa. Leaving Napa, parking brake engaged only once, I got the error. Powering off and restarting, it was still there. Successive stops did not have the engine shut off. Once home, it cleared.
