Phaeton :: 2004 - Loud Pop And Air Escaping Noise From Front Passenger Side
VW Phaeton, 2004 W12, 104000 Miles, Park in garage, heard loud pop and air escaping front passenger side, I think it is the air shock or suspension.
View 4 RepliesGolf VI R :: Squeal Under High Boost / Sounds Like Air Escaping
I am currently stage 2, drive my car kind of aggressive on a regular basis, and now I hear a squeal under high boost, sounds like air escaping. Boost is not acting any different, I've come to the conclusion that the problem is most likely my revision D DV.
-What does failing REV D sound like???
Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: 2005 - Air Escaping Kind Of Noise During Acceleration
Just bought a 2005 4.6Lused. There is a "air escaping" kind of noise during acceleration. It sounds just like the AC system does sometimes after you turn off an engine. I thought originally that it by be AC related, but doesn't appear to be. At steady speed, it goes away, but comes on again with the slightest bit more gas pedal. In cruise control, it cycles on and off when the cruise accelerates up a hill,, etc. The sound is on the driver's side apparently close to dash corner.
View 9 RepliesGolf VI R :: Whirling Noise From Passenger Side Of Engine?
so yesterday I got out of my car with the engine still running and walked about 3 feet infront of it to open a garage door. All of a sudden a loud whining noise could be heard over the engine. I opened up the hood and could hear that it was coming from the passenger side. I then turned off the car and back on, it was still there, just very subdued, could barely hear it.
Later that day, after I had turned off my engine and all of a sudden, it was a loud whining again that lasted for about 4 seconds and it died away. Quite worried about it being the water pump.
Started my car today, sound hasn't returned and can't replicate it. Going to take it to the dealer tomorrow?
Golf IV R32 :: Weird Ticking Noise From The Belt Side Of Engine
So, there is a weird ticking that is coming from the belt side of my engine. The speed of the ticking varies(increases) with the speed of the engine. It isn't as fast as a valve knock so I cant figure it out. thoughts?
View 3 RepliesGolf/GTI VII :: Weird Noise Coming From Driver Side Engine Bay
I've had this weird noise coming from the driver side front (i'm guessing inside the engine bay) for the past month now. It started ever since hitting a bad pothole that wasn't avoidable and couldn't see very well during one of the nasty winter storms we got here in PA. Ever since the steering has felt off, like just not all there anymore. Over the smallest of bumps it makes this noise. Extremely aggravating for me since I try to take great care of the car and keep everything tight and new feeling. Since I don't know how to work on newer cars (only mk3 and lower) I have no clue what to do to check... I've had it at the dealership a few times to report the noise, 2 of the times they just took it for a drive around the area and back and each time the tech said he didn't hear a noise (of course).
Roughly 15k miles on the car currently
Noise started around 12-13k
Also recently noticed that only coming from the same side, the shock over big bumps makes squishy noises, as if it were blown or something...
People have suggested that it could be the sway bar, tie rods, end links, bushings, anything. I personally think it's the strut tower bushing or bearing, but again, I'm not much of a newer car mechanic.

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: 2005 - Ticking Noise Coming From Right Side Of Engine Bay
I have a 2005 mk4 Gli 1.8T with 69,000 miles. This ticking sound that I hear from the inside of my car is coming from the right side of the engine bay. It starts during idle. It starts ticking and gets a little faster and then stops for a few seconds then begins again. It fully stops while driving. I changed tensioner, belt, serpentine belt, water pump, and oil change with mobile 1 synthetic 0w-40.
View 6 RepliesGolf V R32 :: Ticking Type Noise Be Coming From Top Right Hand Side Of Engine
Had my R for the last 2 months and just recently have noticed a quiet ticking type noise (e.g tuck tuck tuck tuck tuck) at low revs (1500) 1st/2nd gear. What this may be? it seems to be coming from the top right hand side of the engine.
View 3 RepliesGolf V R32 :: Squeaking Noise From Passenger Side Increase And Decrease With Engine RPM
Symptoms : You will hear a squeaking noise from the passenger side of the car. It will increase and decrease with engine RPM, and apparently can be heard from inside the car as well. This noise is from the tensioner bearings failing...which, if gone untreated, will then cause the serpentine belt to fail.
If the belt fails, it seems that the battery light will come on, followed by engine coolant temperature spike (overheat).
Bad tensioner sound:
Confirmed failure shortly after this sound:
Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Ringing Noise Coming From Passenger Side Of Engine In 2003 GTI VR6
Just like the title says i have been hearing this ringing noise in my 2003 gti vr6 and its driving me nuts. Neither my mechanic or I could find this source of this noise with the stethoscope. It seems to be coming from the passenger side of the engine but strangely only happens when I LITERALLY shake the car or when its idling and revving. The A/C isn't working either if that means anything. First time owner of a VW by the way.

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Clicking Or Tapping Noise Coming From Passenger Side Of Engine Bay
1.8T... Finding the source of a weird clicking noise I keep hearing. Ever since I changed the motor mounts (although I am not sure if this has anything to do with it) after the engine warms up or after some driving, when the engine is idling I hear a clicking or tapping noise coming from the passenger side of the engine bay. It doesn't seem to tied to the rpm; I can rev the engine a little without the tapping going faster, and when a shift between neutral or park or drive the tapping will briefly slow down almost to a stop before going back to its regular pace. After the revs get above 1500 or so it seems to stop.
View 6 RepliesGmc - Sierra1500 :: When AC Is On, Sound Like Pressure Escaping From Air Tank
My 2002 GMC Sierra, when the AC is on, occasionally makes a sound like pressure escaping from an air tank. Sometimes it doesn't do it at all, like when I take it to the dealer to get fixed, and other times it does it every 30 seconds or so. It's worse in hot weather, but I've had it do it in the winter when the Defrost (and AC) is on. It sounds like an Air Compressor that has a broken regulator and builds up too much pressure and releases the pressure. The sound only lasts for about 1/2 a second, but it's fairly loud. It's coming from under the hood, because it is very loud when driving slow with the windows down. It will do it at all speeds, and is very annoying. We're planning on taking this truck to the Grand Canyon this summer, so I'm hoping to figure it out. My wife says we should just buy a new truck.
View 5 RepliesLeaks :: 1992 Mitsubishi - Loud Air Escaping Sound From Under Hood
I have a 1992 Mitsubishi 3000gt VR-4 (Twin turbo)
Last night I was driving.. not even pushing my car or anything. I go through 1st gear fine, then when I hit second, out of nowhere I hear this loud air escaping sound come from under the hood around 3000rpms. As I went up in rpms, the sound just got louder, so I shifted quick.
It sounded like if I just tried to go through it, it would explode or something. I looked this up and found somewhere it said to try tightening the clamps on everything under the hood, so I did that. None of them were loose but I did tighten them a lot.
I also looked at my (boost?) gauge (gauge on the far right in the car) and it seemed like it was stuck at halfway and moved very little when I was driving. I was going to have a person try to feel where the air was coming from when I revved it in neutral but it doesn't seem to do it in neutral..
Never heard it before and I need to figure this out as soon as possible. Trying to sell my car and this happens..
Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: Lack Of Boost And Air Escaping Sound
Well, since I replaced the MAP hose a few weeks ago the old girl has been running fine. Until yesterday. I was leaving work and she had low boost, less than 10PSI, and as I passed by a parked tractor trailer I could hear the sound of high pressure air escaping because I had my window rolled down.
So today I checked it out. I found three possible leaks spots, BUT no "smoking gun". Take a look at the pics. The damage you are seeing is on the outside of the hot side boot at the turbo and the bottom of the cold side CAC tube. The cracks don't appear to penetrate to the inside. Could these still be possible leak sites? IDK.
I'm going to order replacements anyway. Ford wants WAY to much for these parts. I checked the MAP hose and it is just like new from several weeks ago. Also, I inspected the inter-cooler as best that I can without removing it. I don't see any issues with the tanks or the tank-to-core mounting. It all looks normal. If it does fail where does it normally fail at?
Accent RB (2012+) :: Continuous Sound Like Air Escaping Coming From Back Near The Rear Wheel
I've just bought a new accent 2014 car, I noticed a sound like air escaping coming from the back near the rear wheel, the sounds is continuous, it doesn't stop till the car is turned off, the AC was not turned off, my friend told me that it could the brakes but the sound is coming with and without pushing the brake pedals. Is this normal for a new car or I should go and got it checked ? If it not normal what could it be ?
View 15 RepliesGolf V R32 :: Wind Noise On Driver Side When Going Over 60 Mph
In addition to the annoying rattles from the speakers (I actually think one of my speakers is blown) I'm also getting audible wind-noise on the driver's side, right around my head when going 60mph+
Not something I'd quite expect from a vehicle like this. My Titan was quite and so was my 2001 Jetta (wind-noise wise).
2008 R32 (obviously). I've owned it for ~ 3 weeks.
Golf IV R32 :: Noise On Passenger Side Rear
After a quick search i came up with it possibly being the endlinks, but my question is how do i tell if they are bad and if its the upper or lower link? after getting under the car neither were loose or anything and the bushings had slight cracks in the rubber it didnt look too bad though. anything else i should be looking for?
View 4 RepliesGolf/GTI VI :: 2011 - Oil Leak From Top Side Of Engine
I have a 2011 4-door manual GTI. 1200 miles. I have oil leaking from the top side of the engine. It is pooling just below the valve cover and spilling over onto the exhaust manifold and burning off. Just took it to the dealer who said it was a bad o-ring on the little access plug in the valve cover.
Seemed fine for about 20 miles. Now I have pools of oil hanging out in the hottest area of my engine compartment. The only time it seems to leak is if I let the turbo spool up. If I take a very gentle drive, it does not seem to leak. This is my first VW, I was a loyal Ford owner. Not even my '87 T-Bird Turbo leaked oil with 187,000 miles (just power steering fluid and coolant ).
Golf IV R32 :: Oil Stains In Engine Bay On Left Side
For the past few weeks I have been notice a weird oil stain in my engine bay on the left side. It seems to be coming from under the passenger motor mount and its just seems to being spraying lightly. Not a lot of oil at all. Ive noticed this happening after in installed my motor mount spacers. The oil stains are coming from under this motor mount and are spraying on the ac line in the picture and on the portion of the engine bay pictured.
