GTI 337/20th Anniversary :: 2004 - Rubbing Noise When Accelerating Through Hard Left Turns
My 04 gli makes a rubbing noise when accelerating thru hard left turns.. but weird enough i can take the same turn at the same speed in neutral and have no noise at all. I changed both front wheel bearings and cant seem to find the answer. I brought it to vw and they checked the whole suspension struts springs cv's tie rods ect. and they all checked out good they said. the car used to have a exhaust and i just recently put it back to stock, could the exhaust make the noise perhaps?
View 1 RepliesGTI 337/20th Anniversary :: Humming / Buzzing Noise On Pressing Brakes
I have a 2005 GLI tip-tronic. Bought used but the brakes are not that great. I know what the brakes should feel like since I did a swap for them on my GTI. I'm done brake pads /flush and cycled the abs pump to try an fix it. However on this car when I press the brakes I can here a humming/ buzzing noise. I'm assuming it the brake assist pump. Can this be eliminated or does it have to be replaced. The car stops just not all that great for it having the type of brakes it has.
View 1 RepliesGTI 337/20th Anniversary :: Flashing High Beams Causes Buzzing Noise And Dashboard To Light Up
Just the other day, I'm driving along and flashed my lights at another car so they can make a left turn into a parking lot. No big deal. However, when doing that, I noticed a buzzing noise when I pulled back the lever to engage the lights.
After I got home, I tested things out and found:
With my Euroswitch, I don't have any lights on during the day (no DRLs, etc). This is when this buzzing noise occurs. As it was getting dark out, I also noticed that when I pull the lever back to engage the high beams (i.e., to flash them) the dashboard would light up (like if I turned on the lights normally).
Now, if I have the park lights or headlights on already (which includes the dashboard), and flash the high beams, the buzzing noise does NOT happen.
It also doesn't happen when I push the lever forward to enable the high beams fully. The buzzing sound seems to come from the lower left, around my left knee area or near the steering column.
Why this is happening, and what the cause might be? What is the possible part that needs to be replaced?
I have a 2004 Jetta GLI 1.8T 6-speed. Seems like the old signature is gone.
GTI 337/20th Anniversary :: GLI Not Accelerating Smoothly
I am having some issues with my GLI. it's not accelerating smooth. when I press the gas it kind of hesitates before it starts to accelerate. basically power delivery isn't consistent. When pressing the gas the car accelerates a little and then I get this small surge of power. I don't know what's causing this.
Other than the issues mentioned above I think I need to mention that one time, last week when I was accelerating from a light I lost ALL power to my gas pedal even though I had my foot on the gas & then 1 sec later I was able to accel again. I thought the car was going to stall. I think problem solved, Just unplugged the MAF and problem are gone. the car is running smooth. looks like I need a new MAF even though I cleaned it the other day. still, have to check for leaks tho before spending money. I just replaced my MAF and it didn't change a thing. still same problem.
GTI 337/20th Anniversary :: CEL Came On At The Time When Accelerating
CEL came on this evening. I was accelerating at the time. The only thing that I can think of is I stopped by the car wash to wash the salt off her and left the car running. Could water have gotten into my CAI, and would that cause the light to come on? It's running perfect. Is the CIL even a reason to get concerned??
View 3 RepliesGTI 337/20th Anniversary :: 2004 - Noise Coming From Transmission
So there's been a noise coming from what seems like the transmission for some time now.Here is how it began...One day I was reversing and noticed this clatter/grinding/vibrating noise coming from underneath my car. It only happened in reverse.However, now it's happening in all gears but not when accelerating, ONLY on deceleration in gear.
There's no clutch slipping, no noticeable loss in power, etc. Just the noise.I don't want to start replacing things left and right hoping it will fix it so throw-out bearing, trans mount, flywheel, etc?
2004.5 GLI 1.8T O2M. Transmission hasn't been touched from what I know of (bought the car w/ 37k, now has 77K),

I got 66,000 miles and I am getting a rattle/popping noise when driving on roads that are bumpy. I thought it might be a strut going bad but somebody told me it might be a Lower control arm rear bushing....
View 2 RepliesGTI 337/20th Anniversary :: 2004 - Grinding / Rubbing Noise When In 3rd Gear
Just recently bought a 04 gli. When I shift in to 3rd and let off the gas there is a weird grinding rubbing like noise. It only makes the noise when it's in 3rd gear...

I just noticed recently, that while accelerating, the needle on my boost gauge never really holds. It flutters back and forth between psi throughout the acceleration, rather than holding. This also occurs while I am idle and have the A/C on, the needle flutters back and forth. I have the stage I set-up Revo software which I have had for a while.
View 5 RepliesGTI 337/20th Anniversary :: Grinding Noise While Engine Braking On 2004 Jetta GLI V6
2004 Jetta GLI V6 24v 6 speed ... This started a few years ago, but it was happening in 3rd gear only -- therefore I avoided engine braking in 3rd gear all along. The noise was a pretty loud, noticeable grinding/spinning noise. 3rd gear while accelerating or maintaining gas worked and still works perfectly, smooth as can be.
Somewhat recently (6mo-1yr ago) all the other 5 gears started making this grinding noise, some more than others. 1st gear I don't really know because I don't engine brake in 1st. However, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th (barely noticeable but still there) all make the noise. I now of course avoid all engine braking, however even the transitional steps between gears can be heard sometimes ... unless I perfectly match the RPM etc, but I'm just trying to get to work and back here ...
The car is still quite drivable, but with a major obstacle (pain in the ass) and a new clutch is probably around the corner -- I have 107K on it now. However ... a few years ago when it had 26K on it .. it didn't need a new clutch yet 3rd was still making that noise.

I have an '08 Civic Mugen and recently replaced my HID's. Soon after I noticed a buzzing noise that gets louder as I accelerate.
View 2 RepliesPassat (B6) :: 2009 - Loud Buzzing Noise When Slowly Accelerating
OK, I recently purchased a 2009 Passat 2.0 & love the car with the exception of one thing that's driving me crazy. When slowly accelerating & the RPM's are between 2-3000 rpm there's a loud buzzing noise from the engine. (Sounds like a kazoo) Again, it only happens when accelerating slowly & will happen at all speeds.
View 8 RepliesGTI 337/20th Anniversary :: 1.8T Engine Noise At Low RPM
So, it's been 8 years with this awesome car. Still enjoying every day. Over the past year or so, I've noticed my engine get gradually louder and louder. By that I mean, the overall engine noise at low RPM. It's a mechanical kind of noise. Clicking, etc. The engine has 101,500 miles on it.
For the past 2 days now, this noise has gotten dramatically louder. I've tried to capture it in the video below. Might have to listen with headphones. The noise is most noticeable at idle and then goes away after about 2000 RPM. You'll see. What this might be? Btw, there is no reduction in the performance of the car.

GTI 337/20th Anniversary :: Odd Noise When Revving?
I've been having an issue with my 20th lately and haven't been able to figure out what it is. The car has 55k on it and recently (within the last 500-1000 miles) I've noticed a grind/screech/clang almost metallic sound when I get the car above 3500 rpm. At first I though it might have been a drivetrain issue but when sitting in netural it also does it. The car is all stock except for a VF lower mount and R32 short shifter.
