GTI 337/20th Anniversary :: 2004 Jetta Started To Decelerate When Cruising Around 70 MPH
So I was driving on the FWY cruising around 70MPH when all of the sudden my car started to decelerate for no reason without me releasing the gas pedal. I am guessing its my fuel filter or fuel pump.

View 3 RepliesGTI 337/20th Anniversary :: Grinding Noise While Engine Braking On 2004 Jetta GLI V6
2004 Jetta GLI V6 24v 6 speed ... This started a few years ago, but it was happening in 3rd gear only -- therefore I avoided engine braking in 3rd gear all along. The noise was a pretty loud, noticeable grinding/spinning noise. 3rd gear while accelerating or maintaining gas worked and still works perfectly, smooth as can be.
Somewhat recently (6mo-1yr ago) all the other 5 gears started making this grinding noise, some more than others. 1st gear I don't really know because I don't engine brake in 1st. However, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th (barely noticeable but still there) all make the noise. I now of course avoid all engine braking, however even the transitional steps between gears can be heard sometimes ... unless I perfectly match the RPM etc, but I'm just trying to get to work and back here ...
The car is still quite drivable, but with a major obstacle (pain in the ass) and a new clutch is probably around the corner -- I have 107K on it now. However ... a few years ago when it had 26K on it .. it didn't need a new clutch yet 3rd was still making that noise.
GTI 337/20th Anniversary :: CV Boot Blow Out After Few Hundred Miles
So the long story short, i bought a JB 20th with 36k miles on it, lowered on Neuspeed Race Springs and HD Koni Struts. When bought, both inner CV boots were torn on the car. I ordered OEM CV boot repair kits for all four joints (made by Rein OEM manufacturer) and rebuild the axles completely.
I got the car up in the air today and the drivers side inner CV boot is already torn, after only a few hundred miles (if that many).
From what i understand, it is a common problem on the O2M 1.8T setups after lowering? Is there a solution?
I searched around, but it is still not clear what is the source of it, even though i found plenty of threads that state that its a common problem.
Upon inspection, the geometry of the axle or the angle at which it operates when the car is on the ground does not look that bad, it simply does not make sense.
GTI 337/20th Anniversary :: Repetitive Thumping Noise When Going Around 25 To 30 Miles Per Hour
Ok so i have a bmp gli with 71000 miles. Im extremely conservative while driving to but i noticed when I am going around 25 to 30 miles per hour i hear a repetitive thumping noise. It only happens during this speed and his been this way for a while now. I am kind of ocd with my car and the noise is starting to get to me. What it may be.

View 1 RepliesGTI 337/20th Anniversary :: How Often To Change / Clean Air Filter
I'm just curious because I bought my car with 17,500K and it was originially from Dusty Arizona. The stock air filter was filthy! It was covered it dirt/grass/debris. So, I put a new K&N filter in at about 19K and just did the first cleaning today with 45K. It was coated in bugs! Tons of little bugs especially what looked like bees and almost larva! I used the K&N filter cleaner after tying to dislodge as many of those bugs as possible.
I then used the power washer from a good distance to spray it down good. I then looked at the filter in the sun and could see lots of bugs still lodged in their. I used I flat head to get quite a bit more grime/bugs out before spraying it down with the oil. I then put the filter in a bag with paper towels and spun it around to get any excess oil off the filter.
Anyways, I just wanted to say waiting 25-26K miles between filter cleaning/changes is WAY too long IMO.
GTI 337/20th Anniversary :: Check Engine Light Comes On (solid Orange) After Oil Change
So I go and get my oil change on Sunday at a local place. Oil change is done and later that evening my engine light comes on (solid orange). I call the local VW service and they say its nothing to worry about. "Maybe a little moisture got inside my gas tank." The service manager said to continue to drive it like nothing is wrong and it should go off. Here I am two days later and its still on. So should I be worried?
View 9 RepliesJetta :: Change Catalytic Converter After 12,000 Miles?
My car had its check engine light come on a few days ago, and the engine started to get extremely loud whenever I was accelerating. I would also smell gas whenever I would start the car. I decided to take it to a mechanic, who did a diagnostic check and told me that my catalytic converter was busted. This troubled me because I had just had the part replaced a little over two years ago. I figured the part would still be under warranty, but the mechanic that I had used to replace the cat told me that it was only under warranty for one year or 12,000 miles, according to the distributor. Well, I got a hold of the distributor, and he told me that he didn't have the information for the specific part that he used (he just told me that he "figured" it would be one year or 12,000 miles because most of the parts that they receive have warranties of that length....). Shops are closed now for the weekend, and I am getting worried about my bank account here...should I be?
Well, my questions for you all are as follows:1) Have you all ever heard of a catalytic converter ever having only a 1 year or 12,000-mile warranty? My current mechanic tells me he has never heard of one being so short, and that usually they are 5 years or 50,000 miles. I did minimal research on the internet and also found similar results.2) Who do I need to get into contact with in order to find out how long the warranty is, and how I redeem the warranty?
Jetta - Volkswagen :: 2009 - Change Transmission Fluid And Filter Every 40,000 Miles?
The VW Owners Manual for my 2009 VW TDI Jetta indicates that the automatic transmission fluid and filter should be changed every 40,000 miles. However my independent mechanic's "after market" maintenance manuals say that the DSG should not be touched for the life of the car. I am perplexed

Car: 2004 Jetta GLI 1.8t
Problem: HID's wont turn on
Parts: Helix Projectors; Direct Connection Tuning 6000K HID kit, Ebay relay harness
Other Facts: Had this setup for about 8 or 9 months now with no problems whatsoever. Drove my car home last night and they worked fine. Got in my car tonight for the first time since last night and my headlights wouldnt turn on. All lights, work, just not the low beam HID's (and the high beams, but that's because there's no bulbs in there).
The fact that neither bulb works leads me to believe its the relay harness. Whats the deal? What can I check? All connections and fuse for relay harness seem fine...
