GTI 337/20th Anniversary :: Gears Sounds Like Car Is Shifting But It Doesn't Move

First off i couldn't get the car into reverse to back out of a convenience store and then i let off the clutch to try and pump it again and the car just dies. drove just fine up until i parked. Now when i try to move through gears it sounds like it's shifting but the car doesn't move. The car does have a stronger clutch and unitronic chip if that would have to do with anything.

GTI 337/20th Anniversary :: Loud Popping Noise When Shifting Gears

sometimes when i switch from 1st to 2nd or 2nd to 3rd i get a loud popping noise like my exhaust is hitting the under side of the center column. I have had the car on a lift and shook the hell out of the exhaust...it's not moving enough to cause that loud popping...so i figured it could possibly be the dogbone mount gone and the downpipe is hitting when i shift because the mount is bad?

Or could it be one of the other mounts...I'm going through a divorce right now and really really broke so i need to make sure i get the right one and fix it right the first time. What mount it is if not positive its the dogbone?

GTI 337/20th Anniversary :: Gears Rev Up, Seems If The Car Is In Neutral

Purchased my first VW. I bought a 2003 IY 20th AE with 83k mi.

Two days ago, i'm picking up a friend at their house and as i go to take off from a complete stop- 1st gear revs up as if the car were in neutral, same thing with 2nd gear. 3rd-6th work normally and so does reverse. I called the dealership and they guy says that since the car was bought 'As Is' he can do nothing for me, but try and get me his price on the repair (which i think is complete BS).

I've had a couple people try and tell me a few things that could be causing the problem, like throw out bearing, or maybe the shift fork. i would say that i know a little bit about cars, but i've mainly worked on honda's or other japanese cars so i feel a little lost under the hood of a vw still.

So ive had the car for a couple months now, daily driver. Fixed a couple minor things here and there. I bought a K&N drop in filter the other day took it for a spin and when i was shifting from 1st to 2nd my second gear seemed empty. nothing. didnt grind or feel rough at all. just didnt have a gear. then i tried 1st and same result. before this my car was running great clutch felt strong and i was having alot of fun with my car. I even tried resetting my linkage and checked the cables inside and by the tranny.

1st and 2nd are gone

GTI 337/20th Anniversary :: First 3 Gears Are Sketchy

I got a 337 and not sure if the trans is going or not. it shifts all gears but the first 3 are sketchy and sometimes they're hard to get into gear. it feels like I am hitting something in the way when i shift but other times its smooth like butter. I do have some shaft play. never pops out of gear either. could it be the linkage? the shift fork? slave cylinder?

I was driving my car to a local GTG the other night and about 3/4 the way there i went to go put it first and it wouldn't go into any gear .... I summed it up to being either the tranny the clutch or the linkage....

My only clue is that i can rotate the shift knob in a circular motion.... the clutch petal still feels normal ... and under the hood when you try to move the linkage manually into gear the side to side part hits the motor mount (metal to metal)....

GTI 337/20th Anniversary :: Boost Get Lower When In Upper Gears

For some reason My car won't boost like it used to in the upper gears. 1st, 2nd and even 3rd I can still boost around 18 but once I go 4th, 5th, 6th my boost get lower and lower to the point the I get only 10psi in 6th gear. The car also seems slower a doesn't spool that fast like it used. i checked most of the hoses, even my intercooler pipes which were leaking before and everything is tight. Could it be my DV which is still stock or should I look someplace else?

I am hearing a rumbling noise when I hit 4000 rpms on all gears worst in 2nd and 3rd.... I just recently replaced the timing belt, TBA Done, valve cover gasket, and passenger side axle (through raxles). Anyways I started hearing noise after those repairs, my mechanic has gone through all the work recently done and cant find the problem..... We replaced the tranny mount thinking it was that, but no luck.... I have not lost boost, and noise starts 4000k and goes away at 4700k No codes are flashing.

I have 20th gti and I downshifted into third the other day and heard a small grind and all of the sudden I lost all my gears, I couldn't shift into anything and was stuck in third. I was able to move the shifter up and down from 3rd neut to fourth without engaging the clutch but it was all the same gear:S I managed to get home in third considering I was close by and when I stopped i was able to throw it into reverse but it would act like i was in a high gear(either 4th 5th or 6th I am not sure).

GTI 337/20th Anniversary :: No Driving Power Suddenly In Any Of Gears Including Reverse

So while I was in gear i felt a thunk and suddenly the car had no driving power in any of the gears including reverse. Pulled over popped the hood and checked my linkage. Everything was still connected as far as i could tell. Had my buddy watch the linkage while i shifted through the gears, everything checked out normal. While in gear the car still rolls so obviously something internally isn't jivin. Haven't gotten under it yet, doubt that will tell me anything. 130k miles had her for less than a year haven't gotten around to picking up a bentleys yet. I'll grab one tomorrow since nothings open today.

GTI 337/20th Anniversary :: Shifting Into 1st Gear At Speed - 02M

If the car is moving, the transmission feels like it doesn't want to let you shift into first (even with the clutch all the way in) until you've slowed down considerably. it grinds if the clutch is all the way in and i try to put it into 1st at about 30 mph, for example.

I always thought that it was probably a safety feature so you don't try to get into such a steep gear at that speed. i guess I'm just trying to make sure of that, because I've never researched it before. What I'm starting to notice now (or maybe its in my head) is that the trans is being real particular about me having the clutch pushed in all the way _to the floor_, something that it something that it tends to give me a bit more slack with the other gears.

For example shifting 2nd to 3rd, i can usually have the clutch pedal about an inch off the floor and it will still shift. is this a sign of clutch wear? it's got over 100K miles on it of mostly granny shifting.

GTI 337/20th Anniversary :: Front End Rocks And Bucks When Shifting?

I just had new R32 rear lower control arm bushing installed but I still notice that the car rocks and bucks somewhat when I shift. I can control it I shift and accelerate slowly and deliberately but where's the fun in that?

I didn't replace the front lower control arm bushings but I'm starting to think I should have. Or maybe something else needs replacing??

Experiencing this bucking when shift? Maybe I just suck at shifting?

GTI 337/20th Anniversary :: 2002 Not Shifting Out Of 1st Gear Until Warmed Up For 20 Minutes

2002 GTi 337 not shifting out of 1st until is warmed up for 20 min. Then shifts fine. I've already attempted to add the "liquid gold" G-052-990-A2 ATF fluid from VW at $35qt. I put in about 200ML to no change, then another 200ML to no change. So from reading other posts in VWvortex I've seen many folks with the Jetta have had very similar symptoms. They are installing a new (Solenoid valve N92 (green) to fix this issue. Many of them are even using over the counter synthetic ATF. Before I dig in, just wanted to know what folks with the GTi 337 think about this? Am I dealing with basically the same transmission?

Lexus GX 2004-09 :: Binding Of Gears When Shifting Into L Or H

Is it normal to feel resistance and binding of gears when shifting into L or H, when regular shifter is in neutral? One Lexus dealer technician said no, a different Lexus dealer said yes, and a 20-year private transmission shop technician said yes; the "yes" technicians said its because the gears are not synchronized and will grind and bind a little when shifting into L or H on the 4 wheel drive shifter. Car is a 2007 GX 470 and runs great.
