Ford - Explorer :: 1992 - Transmission Is Shifting Early?
I am going to look at a 92 Explorer soon and the owner says the transmission is shifting early.... I'm not exactly sure what they mean by it and I haven't gone and test drove it myself yet, I'm just trying to get opinions on what to look for and hoping it doesn't mean the end soon to come for this tranny. I was thinking maybe the vac. modulator could be the issue but I don't really know much about these Explorer's, as I've only owned one for about 2 months. It's a 92 4WD.
View 2 RepliesFord F-150 - 1997-2003 :: Transmission Seems To Be Sliding Or Shifting Backwards When Takeoff In 1st Gear
I have a M5OD that I replaced the clutch in in my '99 150 4wd in December . Manual Tranny. Now when taking off in 1st gear the transmission seems to be sliding or shifting backwards, but only in first gear. Got under my truck and looked, can't find any identifying marks to where it might be moving or what is causing this. All frame mounts are tight and the bell housing is flush with the motor. Yes, i did do the clutch change myself in shop class.
View 1 RepliesFord Transmission :: C6 Downshifting Early When Coasting To A Stop
I have a 77 F250 4X4, 400, C6. Upshifts and downshifts are working normally, except under light load and minimal throttle the tranny downshifts to 2nd at any speed under 40 mph. I've never had an automatic do this before. I checked the kickdown linkage is pulled up so it's doesn't seem to be in kickdown position always, no vacuum leaks to the modulator. I confess to be more of a manual trans guy so my knowledge is autos is limited.
View 2 RepliesFord F-150 (2004-2008) :: Quickly Shifting Into OD When Takeoff Slowly From Dead Stop
My 06 FX4 has 106k it started acting up shifting last week and its driving me crazy not knowing what part to change. Sometimes when I take off slowly from a dead stop it shifts really quickly into o/d by the time I am at 15-20mph. Doesn't matter far as hot/cold but if i accelerate quickly it doesn't seem to do it. I have read it could be the Shift solenoid or TPS.
View 2 RepliesCivic - Honda :: Brand New Clutch Makes Engine Sputter When Shifting Slightly Early
I had a new clutch put in my '94 civic a few months back during the engine rebuild. I'm anal about saving gas so I tend to shift a bit early, not enough to make the engine chug, but I might shift into 3rd gear at 17 mph. Never had a problem with it. Since the rebuild, when I do shift earlier, the car has hiccups where there is little or no power for a half to full second. The engine will sputter for a bit until I get up into normal operating range. But it's not like before, I'm shifting no earlier than I have been for the last 6 years and have never dealt with this before. The rpm's don't shoot up so I don't think it's actually slippage.

View 1 RepliesCamry 2012+ :: 2014 SE Transmission Seems To Shift Into High Gears Way Too Early
Drove a new 1.8T VW Passat last night. 170hp/184ftpd torque. Huge difference! My Camry feels totally underpowered now. Also the transmission seems to shift into high gears way too early. Had reprogram recall done and shifting was better for a little while but now is back to being the same as before.
View 14 RepliesSonata I45 (LF 2015+) :: Torque Converter Locking Up So Early - Shuddering And Rattling Transmission
The problem is that it appears the torque converter is locking up so early even right after getting into second gear at speeds between 20km/h and 40km/h. This causes shuddering/rattling coming from under the hood. If I am not mistaken a torque converter should lock up at speeds 80km/h+. I've never seen this behavior on any car before. I'm not sure what kind of damage is being done either by all this shuddering and rattling going on with the transmission. I feel that this should be something that needs to be addressed via some software update. Is there any software update in regards to this issue?
View 5 RepliesFord Super Duty (1999-2016) :: 2011 F250 - Transmission Hesitation On Initial Takeoff
Purchased my first used Super Duty 2011 F250 6.2. Love the truck. This is my 3rd ford truck. I get home from work, so the truck is warm. Sit for 20 min, then leave to take the kids to their games. After turning onto the street then accelerating power is lost for 1-2 seconds, then the truck continues to accelerate. If I let off the pedal, then the truck will slow down, if I hold the pedal position of push down it does nothing. This is going to drive me crazy. Not sure if this is a TCM reprogram issue? It only does this on the initial take off. I want to start playing with my new truck, but want to fix this bug first.
View 5 RepliesFord 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: Transmission Engages Hard On Reverse / Vibration And Some Knocking Sounds On Takeoff
05 F-350 6L .. Automatic Transmission
When I got the truck I noticed it would slam hard into reverse. Ever since it is taking longer to engage reverse gear and now I have to rev it to 1000 rpms for it to engage with a hard SLAM.
I also noticed that if I do a fast take off, there is a knocking sound coming from drive shaft/differential area (like knock knock knock knock knock then goes away). Then a slight vibration ending at around 30 kph (~20 MPH). There is also some oil leaking from the transmission. I added some mercon sp yesterday - it was a bit low.
My guess for the knocking and vibration is the center support bearings and U-joints. Transmission??? One thing I know I am going to be banging away at that shaft but the transmission problem really scares me.
Prius (2010-12) :: Transmission Is Slipping At Takeoff
I've been on a road trip today in East Tennessee in the mountains. At start up and take off from a restaurant tonight, the transmission seemed to be slipping, like it was in neutral. It would rev and then all of a sudden take off. Once it was going, all was fine.

View 1 RepliesFord Super Duty (1999-2016) :: 2010 F350 - Transmission Makes A Weird Noise When Takeoff And Shift Into Gear
I bought this truck with 60,000 miles and have had about 3 months. I don't drive it very much but when I do I have noticed that when it sets for 4-5 days or longer the transmission makes a weird noise as you take off and does does shift into gear as it does when I use it ever day. The problem goes away very quickly (not even a 1/4 mile driving) and everything is fine after that. By the way I took it to the ford dealer who did a complete 60,000 mile service on it that was suppose to include changing the transmission fluid and filters-could they have screwed something up (I did not notice this issue until after the 60,000 mile service?).
View 7 RepliesFord Transmission :: 2000 F150 - Transmission Holding 2nd Gear Too Long Before Shifting Into 3rd
I have a 2000 F150 5.4L with 157k miles on it. I think it has the 4r70w trans. The transmission has started holding 2nd gear too long before shifting into third. Throttle position doesn't matter, it does it even under light throttle. I do not have a check engine light. I have owned the truck since new and the trans fluid has been changed 3 or 4 times. The fluid looks pretty good now, not burnt or anything. The truck has been sitting in the garage a lot over the past 2 years, I drive it at least once a month and have put maybe 2000 miles on it this year. It shifts fine through the other gears, just 2-3 has an issue. Truck has the towing package.
View 6 RepliesGolf IV / Jetta IV :: Transmission Clunking - Losing Power During Takeoff
I have a 99 Jetta MK4 2.0L. I purchased it last month and have been having issues since.
First it was the coilpack that made my engine bog.. (at the time, my transmission was also clunking into gear, getting stuck in gears etc.) changed coilpack and it went away.
Then I had issues where the car would turn, but not start. Changed the Crankshaft Position sensor.
All was good again, then my transmission started to do the clunking (but no getting stuck in gear) and then i started losing power during takeoff.
Then it got really bad, I got home and tried to start it up again, i can floor it on the gas and the car will studder and bog out for a good 3 seconds, and then slowly accelerate into gear.
Some points i was in neutral trying to rev and it was bogging then also.
Btw, coilpacks were changed, all o2 sensors were changed, and the spark plugs have been done recently. Pulled codes,
- P0422 Main catalyst efficiency below threshold
- P0103 Mass or volume air flow circuit high input
- P1127 Long term fuel trim be system too rich
- P0715 Turbine/input shift speed sensor circuit
Also tested driving again, bogged out initially then started to move. Checked if i could get past 40km/hr and i hit 60km/h. After driving a little bit it seemed to be a little bit more responsive, but still boggy.
Corolla / Matrix 2009-13 :: 2010 LE Slow Takeoff With Auto Transmission
I have a 2010 LE with auto trans. This happens when I start the car first time in the day. I shift it to drive And it takes maybe 1.5 seconds to catch before I can drive it. Is this normal. Would a fluid change fix it?
View 11 RepliesFord Transmission :: C-6 Transmission Not Shifting To 3rd
Well recently i bought a 79 f150 4x4 with a C6. I have been going over the regular stuff like vacuum lines, fuel lines, etc. I replaced all vacuum lines because most were cracked or stiff or just falling apart. The problem I am having is that the tranny doesn't want to shift to 3rd. I replaced the vacuum modulator hoping it would work, but no go.
The old modulator had the adjustment screw pretty much turned all the way out, so I am guessing that was done to cover up another issue. The truck shifts smooth as butta from 1-2, but over revs and never shifts when going to 3rd. This happens manually and when it is in D. Could it be an intermediate band? I am new to the auto tranny world so I am trying to soak up as much info as i can.
Ford Transmission :: Shifting Hard From 1st To 2nd?
bought the truck about 3 weeks ago and still having problems with the transmission. Replaced the VSS and it didn't work. My problems are it shifting hard from 1st to 2nd, it feels like it falls out of gear ( i can floor it and the speedometer creeps up then shifts hard.) Now i read having the 3rd brake light out is a problem with the trans too, my 3rd brake light is out along with the interior dome light ( doesn't go on when doors open) i plan to replace the TRS on the tranny tmw is there anything else i can do? how do i solve the brake light problem?
View 14 RepliesFord Transmission :: What Is Excessive Shifting
is there any consensus on what is considered 'excessive shifting'?
i'm quickly learning that what i seem to think is excessive does not bother others. so i'm just wondering if there is any kind of science to defining "excessive"
i once counted upshifts and down shifts of my work truck (2010 f150, 6sp) and on a particular stretch of road it was shifting either up or down, on average, every 15 seconds (this was towing with the tow/haul activated). to me that was excessive. but the owner's manual says to use tow/haul to eliminate excessive shifting .... so by that, it must not be ... because tow/haul eliminates excessive shifting ...
so i guess, what do you all think? any kind of accepted definition to "excessive"??
