Ford F-150 (2009-2014) :: Exhaust Leak Only When Cold?

So after remotely starting my truck on a cold morning, I walk up to the vehicle and notice a small puddle of water near the middle of the truck (not near the engine where the A/C usually drips), and I can also hear a slight ticking noise that I never heard before. I stoop down and can see water dripping from the exhaust (I think off the back of the resonator?). I snap a few pics and decide I'll take a closer look later, but curiously when I return from my drive, the leak and noise are gone.

With 76K miles on the truck, is it possible I've developed a pinhole sized perforation or leak in the factory exhaust system (or maybe there's a loose fitting) that is only present when the engine is cold, but "seals" itself up once the engine is warm and the metal has expanded? I only see the water puddle and hear the noise when remotely starting the truck on cold mornings, never on warm days or after driving around town.

Ford F-150 (2009-2014) :: Exhaust Leak At Manifold Collector?

I currently own a 2009 F-150 XLT, ext. cab, 4X4, 4.6l, 6R80 trans. Surprise, Surprise I have just developed an exhaust leak at the manifold collector. After some careful investigation, I separated the pipe from the manifold and the sealing surface is totally rotted away. I cleaned it up as best as I could and slathered some muffler cement inside the joint to seal the leak. It is about 80% better but will get worse again I'm sure.

I visited my local Ford dealer and talked to a friend I have working there and he said Ford has known about quality issues with manifolds for years and he was surprised that the manifolds lasted 70k miles.

I am hoping to use the truck as is through the winter and in the spring I am going to install these headers:JBA Headers - Reviews on JBA Cat4ward Exhaust Headers - Stainless, Ceramic & Chrome Finishes

Ford F-150 (2009-2014) :: Ticking Sound During Cold Start Engine Warm Up - Exhaust Leak

5.0 coyote exhaust leak .. Since the cold weather has arrived i have noticed a new noise. During cold start engine warm up I hear a nice little tick-tick-tick which sounds to me like an exhaust leak. Is this a common problem? I have just over 58,000 miles would this be covered under powertrain or do they have some nice exclusions for exhaust?

Ford Ranger / B-Series :: 1998 - Exhaust Leak Sound Under Hood?

I have a 98 Ranger 3.0 with a standard transmission. The truck has 240,500 miles so far. It runs just as good as the day I got it 11 years ago, doesn't use any oil and still gets 23 MPG. Last fall, it developed what sounds like an exhaust leak under the hood. It seems to be coming from the area of the EGR valve. The trouble is that I can't feel it or smell it. I have carefully felt the entire length of the tube running from the EGR to the exhaust manifold and cannot feel any leaks. There is no soot or any other evidence of an exhaust leak.

The noise isn't there for the first minute or so that the truck is running. I would think that if I had a cracked manifold or some other such leak, it would be worse when the engine is cold but this is not the case for me. It is most noticeable when pulling a hill as slow speeds in a higher gear. I have checked for codes (no CEL) and there are none. When I first heard it I figured that I would wait until it gets a little worse and I would be able to find it. Its been been over 8 months now it has remained the same.

LeSabre :: 2001 - Exhaust Leak / Smoking Under The Hood

My son's 2001 LeSabre (3800 N/A) was smoking under the hood and the odor was entering the cabin. I decided it was likely due to coolant and oil leaks from the valve covers and manifold gaskets as well as a crack in the upper radiator hose. So I replaced all the gaskets and hoses and cleaned it up some.

After a test drive, smoke still coming from under hood. It appeared to come from the exhaust crossover joints (mainly front) and possibly from the seam on the crossover "shroud". I suspected some rust damage to the crossover, so pulled it out. (And spent my Sunday digging out a broken bolt. )

I don't see any visible rust on the crossover (but can't inspect the entire thing visually). Could it be a clogged catalytic converter causing back pressure and the leak? Or is it more likely something under the hood like a head gasket. (I hope not. )

Ford F-150 (2009-2014) :: Excessive Steam Coming From Under The Hood During Car Wash?

I recently took my 2011 5.0L F-150 on a 1,000 mile round trip threw the mountains of New Mexico and back home. Upon arriving home the truck was pretty dirty so I decided to run it through the car wash real quick. This particular car wash was one of those without brushes, were it just sprays water and soap on the car the rinses it clean and blow drys it as you drive out.

I noticed that after a few seconds of water spraying on my hood there was the low rolling steam coming right out of the front grill. I quickly checked all my gauges and they showed that nothing was overheating or anything like that, but I still was worried. So when the wash was over I pulled into the parking lot and popped the hood. I also noticed that steam continued for a few seconds as rolled threw the parking lot, it however stopped before I was able to get out and open the hood so I was unable to locate its source.

Upon opening the hood I found nothing that looked outta place or anything like that, abiet the engine itself was a little dusty, but that was all. Could it just have been water touching the cold manifold or something? Overall the truck hasn't been driving any differently, so that eases my mind a little.

This is cause for a little bit of concern for me, as I have never had this happen with either of the two Trucks I owned before this one. For the record my truck now has 7,000 miles on the dot on it.

Here's a Video clip of an Ecoboost F-150 ''Not My Truck'' doing the excat same thing that mine did.

Ford F-150 (2009-2014) :: 2013 EB - While Accelerating Strange Moans Under Hood?

My EB makes a moaning noise when I am accelerating up to speed when driving "old Man " style. I guess its the turbo blow off valve(s) like used to happen on my old 7.3's. I hope its not anything to worry about. The truck runs string and gets 18 mpg mixed driving. I do get bon it a lot too.

Ford F-150 (2009-2014) :: 2012 - Too Quite After Exhaust Replacement?

I have a 2012 F150 5.0L that I bought used in 2014. Apparently the original owner had replaced the exhaust with a dual exhaust (converter to muffler to two pipes out of muffler), but didn't spend a lot of money on it (?) and it rusted out. My dealer--we have a pretty decent dealership here, and they've done my service for years--sent me to a local exhaust/muffler guy, who recommended that I go back to a single exhaust, and happened to have an OEM setup that had come off of someone else's new truck. He put it on my truck, and so far all seems fine. (small town; bad service places tend not to survive, and both the dealer and the muffler shop are institutions)

I'm an older, single woman who has horses, so my truck is primarily for hauling one or two horses and hauling hay and feed and such. I want my truck to last--my previous one was a beloved 97 F250 7.3L diesel that I had for 17 years, but, while the engine will run forever, the peripherals were starting to worry me and it needed to find a home with someone for whom getting stuck on the side of the road was an adventure, not an major inconvenience. Anyhow--so, I'm a gentle drive, my truck gets serviced regularly, and reliability is my primary concern.

The new system is quiet. Really quiet. Coming off a diesel, I actually liked the bit of growl I got from the old system, and being able to hear my engine, but I didn't have the heart to say that to the nice gentleman at the muffler shop, and it's not a big deal. My concern is that I have no way of knowing what vehicle the thing came off of, and the guy said it didn't matter that much; it did fit on my truck, and he said it came off of a brand new F150, but it had a suspicious "CHEV" chalked on it ... (FYI, there is an additional resonator after the muffler--it was a bit of a tight squeeze between the spare tire, but it did fit)

So my question--should I be worried? How quiet should my truck be?? It is my understanding that the OEM exhaust on the 5.0L has a bit of growl to it, so I kind of doubt this rig came off of a 5.0. How generic are exhaust systems? What effects might it have on my engine? I trust my service guys, so I trust their recommendation of this muffler shop, but I'd like to hear other opinions, beyond "it will be okay ..." Are there any "buts" in this situation?

Ford F-150 (2009-2014) :: 2011 5.0L - Exhaust Manifold Rusting Away

I was checking the oil in my truck yesterday. I noticed the passenger side exhaust manifold was flaking rust. I mean flaking bad, big chunks coming off. Even the heat shield was rusted bad enough that it is barely holding on. Looks like in a couple years will need replaced. I have never seen this on my other Fords.

Ford F-150 (2009-2014) :: Wind Noise Is Literally Louder Than Exhaust At 55 Mph

Ok, as promised I made a clip of my 2011 Ecoboost towing my 5-6K trailer with a 3" cat back MBRP exhaust. I gained over 2 mpg with this exhaust (MBRP) and intake (aFe) while towing. So far while not towing it only seems to have given roughly a 1 mpg increase over stock. I can barely hear the exhaust at highway speeds after the truck shifts into 5th and 6th gear. The wind noise is literally louder than the exhaust at 55 mph!

Ford F-150 (2009-2014) :: 2012 - Small Puff Of White Smoke Coming Out Of The Exhaust

I have a 12 F150 with the 5.0L. it has 27000 miles on the clock. Noticed twice a small puff of white smoke coming out of the exhaust and decided to check the oil level and it was a quart low. The last oil change was done at 23000 miles and used Full Synthetic Pennzoil and a K&N filter. Called the local dealership I purchased at and they told me NOT to use full synthetic and should only be using Motorcraft semi synthetic with a Motorcraft filter. I know the dealerships will only endorse and advice Motorcraft products but what does everyone else use and think. In the meantime I added a quart of oil and all is fine.

Ford F-150 (2009-2014) :: Blue Smoke Out Of Exhaust - Hard Start - Battery Goes To 0 When Fully Charged?

Some background, my truck has been sitting in the garage for a good month and I haven't started it. Been putting in 6 days a week for over 2 months at work, 60+ hour weeks. Today, I start the truck, it immediately dies. Successive attempts same result, blue smoke out the exhaust. I kept it running by revving it up but then it dies again. It's the original battery, 5+ years old now. MM shows 12v at rest, drops while cranking. I put the charger on the battery for a bit while I came inside to ask this, it's on trickle 2A and its at a 7 on the dial, and it goes to zero when fully charged.

I've been thinking I'll need to replace the battery before winter, but I'm hoping it's just that since its discharged that's why it won't stay running? Any thoughts? I have had zero issues with this truck but having a company truck over a year now, it sees very limited action. 2010 5.4 with just a tick over 40K, oil is good, air filter is clean and free of obstructions. We do live in the woods and have critters that hang out in the garage, like squirrels and chipmunks but I'm not seeing any evidence of chewed wires that I can see. It's in the garage and using a droplight I don't see anything obvious. Maybe it's as simple as I have to take the work truck and get a new battery I hope...

Ford F-150 (2009-2014) :: Black Fluid Leak From Transmission?

about a week ago I popped both of the passenger side tires By hitting a rather tall curb while trying to avoid being t-boned. And I have had the passenger side jacked up for about a week now while waiting for the shop to order and get in my new rims. It has been raining here for the past week so I only just noticed today that there was a puddle underneath of my truck.

It looks and feels like engine oil but it is leaking from the back of my transmission. I can't figure what it might be because transmission fluid is red and my transmission has never overheated So it should not be burned. It has 128k miles on it so it also only has 8k miles on the last fluid change. So it's fairly new fluid. What this could be?

I know some seal is obviously broken and the way everything is wet around just the back bottom of the transmission it looks like it is coming from the transmission. I originally thought it was just the transfer case got hit and it could be a bushing at either the transfer case or transmission but there is no scraping on anything under the truck so none of it was hit or damaged from that. What could be causing this?

Ford F-150 (2009-2014) :: 2012 - Ecoboost Massive Oil Leak

Towing my Jeep/ trailer today I was flagged to the side of the road and advised of a massive plume of smoke trailing me... As soon as I popped the hood, I was greeted with the unmistakable smell of burning oil and a smoke screen like something off James Bond. After the billowing smoke cleared, I was able to pull off the engine cover and found a massive puddle of oil along the passenger side intake manifold??? I cannot locate the source of the leak yet? The driver side is bone dry. One other odd thing, when the engine was running I pulled the oil fill cap and there was a significant vacuum - is that normal? I do have a UPR dual catch can with CSS if for some reason that makes a difference???
