Ford - Explorer :: 2005 - Clicking Coming From Driver Side Inside The Heater Box
For the past few months, there has been a clicking under the dash of my 2005 explorer when the **** is turned on heat. It always clicks and it can usually be stopped by playing with the heat a little but today I was driving and I lost my heat and the clicking got worse. I took the trim off and tried looking what was wrong but I could not find it. The clicking is coming from the drivers side right where the center console meets the dash and its coming from inside the heater box. I thought it might be a vacuum line problem but the clicking continues even after the car is shut off and the vacuum lines drain. It must be some kind of electrical problem....

My son was driving my 2002 Explorer, 4.0L, 200K+, yesterday, and it started making a clicking noise under the hood. It clicks in time with the engine running, but it doesn't sound internal to me. It's more like it's in some of the apparatus on top of the engine, fuel delivery system. It doesn't sound like a timing chain to me, but I could be wrong. Maybe I'm just trying to be optimistic, but the thing runs fine, and all of the gauges are normal. I'm going to drive it today to see for myself. Any other part besides the timing chain?
View 6 RepliesFord - Explorer :: 2006 - Clicking Noise From Dashboard When Driving
My wife and I have a 2006 Ford Explorer that my wife has "learned" to love. When we first bought it she was driving a Civic and was sure that she was never going to be able to park the Explorer without crashing. Anyway, I digress. Last summer I noticed that every time I got in to drive it (I have the 2001 Civic now) there is a "Clicking" sound coming from the dashboard. I can't pinpoint exactly where in the dash it is coming from but it drives me NUTS! My wife can easily ignore it but I can't. It seems to be worse this summer so far and it only happens in the summer.I plan to record the noise and if I am fortunate enough to be able to speak with you about it I will have the recording of it. Anyway, I can't take much more of the clicking!

View 4 RepliesFord - Explorer :: 2005 - CEL - No Code - Blank Odometer - Trip Counter On Cold Start?
I have a 2005 Sport trac, just recently, I started my truck and my check engine light was on and my trip counter and odometer went blank, not off, just dashes going across the panel. I recall noticing that my rpms were a little high. I turned off the truck and restarted and after a few minutes it came back to normal. Check engine light went off and my miles were displayed again.
A few days later, it happened again, except this time the rpms were normal, just the dashes and check engine light. I happened to have an obd II with me and I immediately scanned it for any codes. NONE. Few minutes later, back to normal. Scanned again, NOTHING. Its been happening more frequently now, every time i turn on the truck when its been sitting for a while. Like I said, it takes about 3 minutes or so and it goes away. Nothing unusual happens during this time. Motor sounds fine and runs smooth.
A friend who is a mechanic told me that it could be a ground cable for the COIL? that could be loose or damaged? He said its more than likely a ground because it happens when its cold and takes time to warm up and goes away. That if it was a hot it would happen all the time. I have searched online for something similar and have found similar problems but no exact match. I just changed the motor about a week ago. I had problems with the timing chain and broken oil pump.
Due to the amount of damage, cost and time to repair and amount of miles on the truck (180K) I decided id be better off putting in a new(used) motor with 67K miles in half the time for labor. I dont think this makes a difference though, because the first incident happened about a week before the truck broke down and the second about two days before. So Im guessing that the change of motor has nothing to do with it.
Ford - Explorer :: 2004 - Clicking / Rattling Noise In The Front Of Engine
I have a 2004 explorer that has a clicking/rattling noise in the front of the engine. What i found is that the bottom pulley has a sleeve or ring inside of that pulley that is just floating loosely back and forth. What this is or what it is supposed to be ??? If it is a bad part, what is the best way to fix it ?

I have 98 ford explorer sport 4x4 does has a clicking noise coming from the front driveshaft that connects the transfer case to the front differential. At first we thought it was the front drivers side cv joint which we replaced. nothing changed. there is still a noise apparently coming from the front driveshaft. we can not tell if it is the front differential or the transfer case itself. The noise is being transfer through the front driveshaft. It sounds a bearing is going bad.

View 4 RepliesFord F-150 - 1997-2003 :: Clicking Noise When Truck Start Cold
Start truck cold, getting clicking noise...sounds like valve but runs great. Warms up and clicking goes away. Remove #1 spark plug and it shows build up of whitish carbon. Will remove the other spark plugs and check. Also starting to use half a can of oil a week. No leaks that I can see. Oil pressure gauge shows high...always has. Also, open door and get out after driving and smell oil. Wanted to make it to 400k but might not be able to with this issue.
Going to do a compression check to see what else is happening. Still have decent power. If cylinder pressure is good would it make since to do just a "top end" rebuild (if it is a valve issue? Should i pull it and do a complete rebuild? What does white build up on spark plug usually indicate?
Ford - Explorer :: 2005 - Noise At Low Speed?
What the noise is when i step on the gas and it sounds like my grandpaps tracheotomy tube humming a low tune. Kinda vibrates, low tone kazoo or stinkbug sound when flying around the light in the house. only low speeds starting out, goes away at higher rpm.oh its a 05 sport trac 4x4
View 1 RepliesAvalon 2005-12 :: 2007 - Loud Clicking Sound When Car Turns Left From A Stop In Cold Temp
Have a 2007 Avalon, original owner. For past 3 winters, when temp is 10F or less, there is a loud clicking sound when the car turns left from a stop. The frequency of the clicking sound increases as the car accelerates. Once the car makes the turn, the sound stops. In extremely cold weather (0F or less) the noise happens when turning right, but less intense. The clicking usually goes away after driving several miles and will return after sitting outside overnight or for 4 or 5 hours if the temp is below 10F. Dealer claims all of the CV joints are good. I drove it with a tech this morning and it was clearly present.
View 6 RepliesFord - Taurus :: 2005 - Clicking Noise Coming From Needles In The Dash
The problem is intermittent: After turning off the car, there is a clicking noise coming from the needles in the dash. Sometimes the needles click and jump repeatedly; sometimes there is just the clicking noise. To get it to stop, I'll turn the ignition switch several times. At this point, the car seems "dead" but not from the battery. The car actually will not do anything electrically including popping the truck, unlocking, etc. It will not start.
After turning the switch several times, the car would eventually start like nothing was ever wrong with it. I am just guessing that there is something wrong with the switch or something electrical. I also want to think it coincides with something to do with the battery. The problem seems to be worse after checking and seeing that the battery may be low. We have had the alternator checked, we've had the battery itself checked, etc. In addition to driving around with an angry (bad) catalytic converter, this problem, etc, I really would like to send it off of a ravine.

Ford - Explorer :: Howling Noise From Power Steering Pump On A Cold Start At Near Zero Temperature
My power steering pump in my 05 Explorer 4.6L V8 is starting to howl it's displeasure on a cold start at near zero temperature. It doesn't do it when warm.
I thought I would change the fluid but the owners manual says to use Mercon ATF, but Ford now sells Mercon V as power steering fluid. It also warns not to mix the two kinds.
So, which one should I use? And, which way to change it, siphon pump the reservoir and replace with new a few times, or let the pump pump it out and replace as it goes?
Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: 2005 - Clicking / Rattling Then A Whirring Noise Followed By A Dull Thud
2005 F150 Lariat package with 63,000 miles. Ok... thought I had a cat crawl up in thew engine to stay warm...but alas no cat found. View 2 RepliesFord - Explorer :: 2002 - Chirping Noise When Starting From Cold / Camshaft Position Sensor Location
Have a 2002 Ford Explorer 4.0 6cyl. w/ around 150K
I recently started hearing a little chirping noise when starting from cold. The rate of the chirping increases with the rpms (reving in neutral or when speeding up while driving). The sound usually goes away after things warm up.
Doing some research, the most suggested cause for such chirping is something called a Camshaft Position Sensor. Information mentions that this item can either need lubrication or to be replaced.
I was going to try lubrication first....then if the problem persists...replace.
My biggest issue is locating it on a 2002 4.0 Explorer (4 door, 4wd). I've read different reports for different Year models (mostly 97-2001)...which often include pictures. But I can't find ANY pictures for the 2002 4.0
QUESTION: Where it is located on my 2002 6cyl model? I read one account of it being on top of the driver's side valve cover....and I DO see an item in that location secured by one bolt..and it does have an electrical wiring harness attached....but I'm not sure...and have not seen any photos that look like my engine.
I've attempted to upload a picture of what I think maybe be the sensor (circled on red).
I've also come across an item called a "CRANKshaft position sensor".....are these different items, and, if so, does the crankshaft p.s. also "chirp" when needing lubrication or replacing ?
Tacoma :: Cold Engine Start Clicking Noise?
I replaced my fuel filter on my 2003 2.4L tacoma 2wd. 65k miles. At the same time I checked the valves. No valve adjustment needed. Now I hear 4 to 6 rapid metallic clicks when i start the engine cold. Once it happened when it was warm. This fuel filter is not original equipment.
