Civic - Honda - Oil :: 1993 - Large Amount Of White Smoke Started Belching From Tailpipe

My daughter has a 1993 Honda Civic, which was running perfectly until yesterday. Until she mistakenly filled the engine with too much oil. She then drove it until a large amount of white smoke started belching from her tailpipe. All seals and gasket seem to be intact. I drained the oil and fill it to proper levels, but still have a large amount of smoke coming out of the pipe. I check the radiator to ensure that no oil/water mixture, but it was a huge cloud of smoke.....is this the end for this car or is there still hope.

Ford - Explorer :: 2003 - Blowing White Smoke From Tailpipe?

As the title says, leaking/blowing gas from exhaust. Here's what i have done so far...

Compression check: 145 to 150 across all 6 cyl
Fuel Psi check: 65psi
New plugs, wires and injectors along with new intake gasket
Checked for vacuum leaks and found none
Starting to think headgasket but coolant levels were normal, but not driven for a couple miles after the misfire/smoking gas smell started.

I have fire, compression and to much gas, the spark plug on #1 looks clean, #2 show more black and 3 thru 6 look blackish/normal. I am at my wits end on this.

Toyota - Camry :: 1993 White Smoke Coming From Tailpipe

Every 2-3 days, intermittently-there is white smoke coming from the tailpipe of my car. The car seems to be sputtering, like it wants to cough, plus there is vibration in the steering wheel. All this happens while the car is idle like at a light. Then on other occassion, I am driving on the freeway and the car seems to sputter even at 45-65 mph, then it just smooths out. No problem.

Today, I was in the parking lot, there was no smoke but some sputtering when I shifted from park to drive. I drive 30-40 minutes to get to work and very afraid my car is going to breakdown. Also, I took my car to Toyota dealership and was told they could not tell me what was wrong with my car and to bring it back when to problem occurs again. I have pretty much "babied" my car, so I guess my car is beginning to reach middle age.

Add'l info: Camry XLE, 3.2L, automatic, 167,000 actual miles, warm climate, oil change every 14 weeks, tune-up about a month ago, coolant flush in June 2012, a/c is fine

Chevrolet - Suburban :: 2007 - Foamy Stuff In Oil Lid / Huge Amount Of Blue Smoke Blowing Out

I am writing about a 2007 Chevrolet Suburban and for the last few months, have noticed that the car is losing oil. I have to put in a quart of oil about every 3 weeks. I have brought it in to the mechanics and asked them to look for a leak and they can't find anything. They have changed the oil, replaced the evap hose, but the car is still losing oil. Just did a lot of driving this last weekend and the oil went all the way down, to the point of when I started it this morning, I got a huge amount of blue smoke out the back. When I took off the cap to add oil, I noticed this mustard yellow, foamy stuff on the lid. Never saw that before.

Ford Ranger / B-Series :: 1993 3.0 - Head Gasket Failure / Blowing White Smoke And Using Coolant

Well I finally went and bought another Ranger. Pretty red 5spd 4WD long bed. I knew it didn't run when I got it (crazy leaky fuel line...stupid squirrels), and the owner was pretty sure it had a head gasket failure. He claimed it was blowing white smoke and using coolant. I hadn't been able to get it to run to verify that, but I can't see why he would lie about that.

I finally got the fuel line fixed today (FYI, don't waste your time or money buying those Dorman OEM connector patch kits at Advanced Auto). While we were cranking the truck, I noticed gas escaping the degas bottle the radiator was pressurized before the thermostat should be open. That to me says blown head gasket (crossing fingers it isn't a cracked head) for sure. I tried to get a picture of the dipstick, but in the light it definitely looks like peanut butter. I just wanted to make sure before the massive ordeal of pulling heads/top end work that will follow

Anyway, plan is to fix her up and get her back on the road! Some picture enjoyment .......

Ford Excursion :: Smoke From Tailpipe?

I got smoke form my tailpipe today. We just bough a new 35 foot TT and towed it for the first time about 160 miles. I pulled into the park and had to climb a steep hill. I down shifted to 1st and when I got to camp office it started smoking. From up front it looked like white/grey smoke and smelled a little. Smelled hot. I did accidentally overfil the oil before we left. Almost a quart. We to camp store after all set up and the truck seemed fine. No dash lights came on and temps were running normal.

Elantra MD (2010-15) :: Massive Smoke Behind Car

Had a very strange thing happen today. The weather in the northeast here was just amazing the past two days. So I took a nice ride in the car up through Granville, NY and over the back roads to Vermont. The whole trip I am kinda hyper-mileing getting about 40 MPG (or better) the whole trip, on one long strait road with a mild declining grade I got over 60 MPG!! The whole trip I did 40 to 50 MPH, just taking my time, once or twice getting to 60 MPH, just so I didn't hold up traffic on a couple main roads.

Ok, so I just get southbound on Rt 30 north of Manchester, VT. I am heading south. The road is posted at 50 MPH. I am doing about 45 MPH and come on a vintage car doing about 40 MPH, no problem, I am really not in a rush, I leave him lots of room. Just enjoying the nice day at a leisurely pace. But the guy in the vintage car pulls over to let me pass. Ok, so I go around him and continue on at about 45 MPG..

I quickly come up on a white Subaru I think it is, looks to be 8 or 10 years old, now this guy is slowing down to 35 to 40 MPH.. there is a big long strait away, and no on coming traffic, and this guy seems to not even be able to hold 40 MPH on this road posted for 50 MPH.. so I decide to pass him. So I step on the gas and pull out into the oncoming lane. Next think I know I see white smoke EVERYWHERE behind the car!!! And it appears to be coming from MY car!!!

Now in full panic mode I am trying to sense any odd noises or vibrations from my car, fully expecting my dash board to light up like a Christmas tree any second!! My car proceeds down the road, I back off the gas as much as I can while still trying to pass the car I was passing, get back in my lane and get ready to find a place I can pull the car off the road.

After several hundred more feet the smoke that appears to be coming from the back of my car, or under it, tapers off, I keep watching my dash board for any engine lights that might come on.. car seems to be running smoothly, but I now VERY nervous about driving it..

No lights came on. No odd engine or car sounds or vibrations. I am stumped where all the smoke came from!! It was NOT just a little, it was like a James Bond car setting off a smoke bomb so the cars behind couldn't see! I mean, I could not see anything behind me, in two lanes, for several seconds. I was like "WOW!!" As I looked in my mirrors!

My 2011 Elantra has about 12,000 miles now. Never had any engine problems at all.

I have four theories of what the cause might have been:

1. When I hit the gas to pass that car high pressure in the engine somewhere forced some oil into the exhaust system somehow, and it had to burn off.

2. Just as I was about to pass that car I think I turned on the AC. Maybe as the AC belt was about to engage the high engine RPM caused the belt to slip and burn, and smoke, until I backed off the gas and it caught on the pulley properly.

3. Maybe the transmission dropped one too many gears, causing the tires to slip on the pavement when I hit the gas and I did a "burn out", "smoking the tires".

4. Maybe the smoke came from the Subaru. But replaying the whole thing in my head I know I saw smoke out MY back window when I was in the oncoming lane. I find it hard to believe the smoke did NOT come from MY car. Especially given it started exactly the time I hit the gas to pass him.

I am tending to think it was theory #1 above. But I just don't know. Still love my Elantra, And the car seemed fine after that for the 60 or so mile ride home. But I would love to know the real source of the smoke I saw!

Ford Excursion :: Coolant Loss And White Smoke From Tailpipe

I was having an issue with coolant loss and white smoke from tailpipe. Was told it was likely intake leak vs headgaskets. Changed intake gaskets, fixed the issue for a day then it started just dumping coolant from every available place in the exhaust system. Was draining a full collant bottle in about 2 minutes. Was also checking for exhaust in the coolant with the tube and blue liquid which it stayed blue. Had previously done a degas pressure test and it passed. The only test I hadn't performed was compression test which all the cylinders output was lowest 160 to the highest about 185. Did not perform a wet compression test as I was mainly looking for base compression and consistency.

Not sure what healthy is on these vehicles but considering they were all running pretty close I call it good. Also it idles just as smooth. Pulled intake a 2nd time and rechecked my previous work. Everything looked fine so I put it back together. Ran smoke free for about 50 miles now I'm back to smoke after it sits a bit but it clears up after a short drive. What am I missing? I will note that I had a small coolant leak from drivers side rear of engine that I noticed while it was parked in the shop. I'm assuming that would be the oil cooler? But oil is clean so it's not mixing. What other avenues on these engines can coolant make it into the exhaust? Drives perfect with no power loss.

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: White Smoke Coming Out Of The Tailpipe

2001 F250 5.4 with 160K miles. My wife "borrowed" my truck as she drove away, I saw white smoke coming out of the tailpipe. The kind you see in cold weather. Its was 75 degree in Texas this morning, so what could that be? There is antifreeze in the reservoir and I recently changed the oil and there was no water in it.

Ford Aerostar :: 1996 - Excessive Amount Of Steam / Smoke Coming From Exhaust

I've owned this vehicle since new and never overheated or had any major mechanical issues. It just hit 130,000 miles and recently completed a 1500 mile uneventful road trip running great.

The other day I noticed an excessive amount of steam/smoke coming from the exhaust while sitting at a stop light after recently starting the vehicle. Once the van was up to temperature the exhaust steam/smoke cleared up.

I checked the radiator level and found it was about a qt low, and did not seem to have any exhaust bubbling or fumes in the radiator.

Then, I pulled the dipstick and the freshly changed oil looked a bit cloudy (I got really nervous), I really can't say its milky colored because I can still see though the oil and see the cross hatches on the stick. But it doesn't look like new oil.

The engine seems to be running fine, no loss of power or missing. Starts and idles fine.

Talked with a mechanic friend and he immediately said blown head gasket or intake manifold was allowing water from one of the four corners where the gasket seals the water jacket, into a cylinder.

Since that first episode of excessive steam/smoke it hasn't reproduced the problem to that degree. It does start to steam out the exhaust after about 5 minutes of starting cold, but seems to dissipate after the engine warms.

The amount of smoke / steam in that first episode, I couldn't see the car behind me in the mirror ... I looked like a mosquito fogger.

Elantra GD (2013+) :: Massive White / Gray Smoke On Acceleration

I have a 2013 GT and my wife a 2011 sedan.

[URL] .....

I've looked it up and didn't find any reports of it happening to the GT. (I admit I didn't look too hard!)

It happened to my wife's 2011 sedan when accelerating onto the highway. Just as described in the "massive smoke" thread. I couldn't see the car following behind me, the smoke was that bad. No exaggerating!

-- no check engine light
-- no change in temp
-- car drove fine immediately afterward (we babied it till we got home)
-- oil level and colour OK
-- coolant OK (overflow between lines)
-- next day car felt fine during full-throttle 80-120 km/h acceleration.
-- mentioned it at dealership, with service adviser, service manager and mechanic all listening to the story. They were stumped but offered to look at it. Adviser suggested a "BG Products fuel induction" treatment, which I'm assuming is bogus. (Haven't had a chance to check into it)

My web searching suggests the car had a "carbon blowout" cuz my wife rarely drives on the highway. I've heard of this but always thought it was just a myth. I mean, seriously, have you ever actually seen a car throw up a James Bond smokescreen just cuz it hadn't been driven hard? I'll betcha five bucks that if I took my mom's babied 1997 Camry onto the highway and floored it, nothing would happen. So what's up with the Elantra?

Ford F-150 (2009-2014) :: Trans Occasionally Clunks In And Out Of Gear / Blue Smoke From Tailpipe

I purchased my 2013 Ford F150 3.5L Ecoboost screw in December 28th 2013. I now have 12,000 miles on my truck. My transmission occasionally clunks in and out of gear. Mostly in stop and go rush hour traffic around 20mph. Dealer applied a PCM/TCM software update in July. Still clunks... possible 'slip bump fix' required?

When I 'punch it', I see what looks like blue smoke blowing out of the tailpipe. Tailpipe has soot buildup. I've also noticed a slight drop in MPG. I have NOT noticed a loss of power. Wondering if my truck needs induction cleaning?

Ford - Explorer :: 1999 - Tailpipe Detached From Catalytic Converter

My new truck is running really loud. I got under it and noticed that the catalytic converter is not connected to the tailpipe. What would I need in order to repair it? Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: Decent Amount Of White Smoke Started Coming Out Of The Exhaust

2007 F550 with the 6.0. About 2 months ago I replaced the EGR cooler with a Bulletproof cooler. Truck ran well for a few weeks. Then I started getting the "turbo fart". I stopped using the truck until I had an issue with another truck. I was stuck so I sent the 07 out without cleaning the turbo. This morning a decent amount of white smoke started coming out of the exhaust. The smoke would sometimes get a bit gray. Going up hill it didn't have much power at all.

Geo :: Gigantic Smoke Clouds Out The Tailpipe When Driving Under Load

Geo Metro and has experienced gigantic smoke clouds out the tailpipe when driving under load, especially freeway speeds. I recently picked up one of these small economy cars and understand this is a common issue. I was getting it bad until I gave me engine a good flush with Marvel Mystery Oil and Seafoam. It appears to be solved now so I guess I either cleaned up some stuck rings that were causing excessive blowby or there was crud I cleaned out of the oil drainback holes in the head. It was puking oil through the PCV line back into the intake and I had just changed my PCV.

I am on a Geo Metro forum and this appears to be a common issue. The term commonly used is "oil farting". If you have one of these cars and are experiencing this, you might try a good flush of the engine before considering junking the car or rebuilding/replacing the engine. I let some Marvel Mystery Oil soak in the cylinders overnight too.

Mercury - Sable :: 1999 - White Smoke Out Of The Tailpipe

This morning I went to start my car and it wouldn't start. So naturally I had it jumped and it started. When it did there was white smoke coming out of the tailpipe. I do want to mention that 2 days ago it was really low on oil and I added 3qts. It is almost 3,000miles over its oil change but this is the first time since I have had the car that the oil has not been changed when it should be. Do you think it just needs a tune up and oil change? My car is a 99' Mercury Sable with over 100,000 miles.

Passat (B5) :: 2004 - White Smoke From Tailpipe / Coolant In Oil

I have a 2004 passat 1.8t which currently blows heavy white smoke from the tailpipe; coolant in oil and vise versa; when I open the oil fill cap / dipstick white smoke blows from there also. At first I thought it was the head gasket so I replaced it and resurfaced the head. What i noticed was burned oil on the sides inside the head. After putting everything together the smoke never quit blowing and after couple of hours the fluids mixed again. After reading the forums I took off the oil cooler and tested it by submerging it under water and hooking compressed air to the water lines -- no bubbles came out of the sides. Maybe I tested it wrong while the it is the oil cooler all along? Could it be cracked head? block?
