Ford Ranger / B-Series :: 1999 - Trans Slipping In 1st And 2nd Gear?
I have a 99 Ranger 3.0L automatic, ext cab, 2 wheel drive. Door sticker show code "T" which I looked up as the 4R44E. The trans seems to be slipping in 1st and 2nd. Thought it was "reared shudder", from a "limited slip" differential but mine is not limited slip. just the regular 8.8 with 373 gears.
Wanting to know what if any options I have for buying a new / rebuilt tranny? I've seen where depending upon the year and motor, Ranger can have 4r44e, 4r55e, 5r55e, etc.
Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: 2007 - Trans Slipping / Hunting For Gear
Here's my transmission problem. 2007 f150 crew lariat 4x4 with a 5.4
When my driving conditions force me to cruise at the 28-30 MPH range my transmission often hunts for an upshift, like a slipping gear hunt then it hits in firm. It must be from 2nd to 3rd gear I'm thinking. It doesn't occur at all if i am accelerating through this gear or past this shift point. under normal acceleration through and past this speed or shift point it is as smooth as can be.
I often drive some flat but winding dirt roads out in a forest area near my deer camp and it seems this is where I settle into a speed of 28-30 mph for several miles at a time. This is where it happens, the transmission seems to begin to shift but seems to slip or hunt for that next gear then it hits in fairly firmly.
Truck has 83k on it....
Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: Transmission Slipping Every Time Going From First To Second Gear
I have a '97 F150 4x4 with the 5.4L engine and automatic transmission. The tranny's been slipping on and off for a couple of years. It started when it was hot outside, I had been driving a long ways, and I was trompin' on the gas to pass someone. Still, the slips were rare. As it got worse during the hot summer months, I just minimized my long-distance travels.
I recently took it to a transmission mechanic. Like some of the feedback to posts in here, he felt it was a problem with the engine - because we had a bad EGR valve signal on the computer. (We still flushed the fluid. I later replaced the EGR and the DPFE. Another mechanic went through everything, replaced some valves that had something to do with the EGR, and feels the engine is 100% (and it runs very, very smooth). For those that will bring it up - I have replaced all of the coils (though it's been a few years). Having actually replaced some numerous times over the years, I can feel when one is bad (of course, the 'check engine' light as well). Lastly, we've replaced all bulbs in the dash so they are all working as well. Also, the transmission is not leaking. The computer system is giving us no errors/throwing codes.
After a couple of weeks, I happened to drive the truck a long distance one day and it started slipping. It got bad enough that it was slipping every time going from first to second gear. It would usually engage as I took my foot off the gas. Since then, because I haven't driven long distances, I have not had a problem.
The transmission mechanic thinks it's still an engine issue. He also mentioned a mechanical/electrical switch system on the side of the transmission (?). Give me a list of things to look at.
Accent LC (2000-05) :: Trans Slipping Out Of 5th Gear / Drops Out To Neutral
It does not like to stay in 5th gear, drops out to neutral. 2001 Accent Hatchback. 1.5l 5-speed
The other day it started slipping out of 5th gear on the expressway. Held good for the first 10 to 20 minutes. Afterwards I had to hold it in 5th for it to stay in gear. While holding I noticed it pushed on the shifter when applying throttle, and let up some when I let of the gas.
I inspected the pivots at the transmission. The forward / back bushing was not installed properly by the previous owner. I rigged it up better with a fender washer and cotterpin. It previously had just a pin and the bushing had expanded out. This removed the play from shifting I had previously noticed. It also halfway fixed the popping out of gear. It stays in gear a little longer, and when I put it back into 5th it stays there for a while most of the time.
I have not inspected the lubricant level yet. Where to check next?
Sonata I45 (YF - 2011+) :: 2014 - Transmission Slipping When Changing From 1 To 2 Gear / Reverse
4400 miles on it. Over last few days the transmission started to slip. First gear engages fine, but the change to 2nd involves a rev....(with no acceleration) till it finally grabs.
Reverse into my garage up my slight incline of a drive does same. Slip rev....slip rev... No gear noises.
Tried to check fluid level...(that's what it sounded like to me) but sealed system.
Taking it in for warranty check/work.
Chevrolet - Cavalier :: 2002 - Trans Slipping When Shifts Into A Higher Gear
2002 CAvalier 2.2 automatic with 123'000 miles. I was asked to look at this car for a slipping trans problem.
I drove the car about 3 miles and in 1st and Reverse it feels normal, even on a steep hill, but once it shifts into a higher gear the trans slips and you can go only about 15mph.It is shifting, because if you move the shifter into a lower gear while traveling....you can feel it downshift.
There is a code of P0502 Vehicle speed sensor. and there is no Trans fluid visible thru the filler cap on the trans top.
Previously someone else worked on this car for the slipping trans....changed some sensors....but couldn't fix the problem. The owners don't know what parts he replaced. He works for a Tire outfit and I've known him to lean towards used parts a lot.The previous mechanic convinced them that it needs a new Cluster. I presume he means instrument cluster.
I have a feeling that he just threw parts at it hoping that something would stick.
I presume that he replaced the VSS, and it didn't cure the problem.Come to think of it....the code could be from before the other persons work. I should have cleared the code and test drove it again.
I'm looking at dropping the pan, replacing the filter, refill the fluid, and replace the VSS
My questions: Could a instrument cluster have anything to do with the shifting problem.
Is the level of trans fluid supposed to be above the ledge under the filler cap, or is there a "full level" plug in the side of the trans. If he replaced the VSS with a new one....and the fluid level is good....whats my next step.
Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: F250 - Gear Ratio / Changing Trans Shift Points
I have a 99 f250 with some procomp (325s) that are 12.5 wide with a 6in lift my superchip tuner can change the trannys shift points but I am pretty sure a new gear ratio is needed. I dont do a whole lot of off roading with it its mainly my driving around and highway rig whats a good gear ratio that would work for me
View 9 RepliesFord F-150 - 1997-2003 :: 4R70W - Trans Has Hard Time Getting Into 1st Gear
The truck:
2000 4X2 F150
4.2l V6
280k miles/ some towing
The problem : The trans has a hard time getting into 1st gear. When you put it into gear you have to rev it to about 3k (when it's warm, 4k when cold) RPMs at which time you feel a definite engagement and it goes through the rest of the gears just fine. Once it's warm it will do stop and go traffic as long as you start it with the OD off.
The background : Orobably the stock motorcraft filter on there, and I don't think the oil has been changed in the life of the trans, but I do know that it's never been ran low on fluid. I took a gander at it and found a plug where a gear type speedo went on older models to be loose and leaking. tightened it up about two full turns. also noticed what looks to be a leak where the main case meets the output shaft housing. now I know neither of these are the cause of my headache but I do wonder if the second leak might be a sign.
The research : I've been looking for almost a week now for a solution. I've been all over TCCoA, Explorer Forum,10 pages of search here on FTE and various other Ford based websites and have come across a single thread with the same symptoms but the OP never came back with a solution.
The plan : A fluid/filter change (and flush) is definitely in the plans as well as inline filter for my own satisfaction. from what I've read the stock 1-2 accumulator is known to go bad on some of these and if I have the pan off might as well check anyways.
Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: 2003 Excursion - Trans Would Not Budge In Any Gear
After doing some hunting/wheeling with my son, got back to town and 2003 Excursion w/ ~145K miles would not budge in any gear. No codes with Scangage. After 30 minutes I finally thought to rev it up and it shifted hard into gear, and drove normal home. What do do now?
View 4 RepliesFord Excursion :: Hard Time Getting Out Of Park And Into Gear
Lately (within the last couple of days) when we park the Excursion we have a difficult time getting it out of park and into gear whether it is going in to Reverse or Drive the gear shift does not want to move.
I have not forced anything at any time but eventually with some pumping of the brake pedal and some putting into park and out of park we can free it up. This is something that happened virtually overnight and once we are in gear everything is normal.
What is causing it? I am making an assumption that it has to be some switch in the steering column but I am no mechanic and only guessing.
Ford Excursion :: When Selecting Reverse Long Time Before Actually Go Into Gear
2003 Excursion 4wd. Noticed a few days ago that when selecting reverse, it seemed to take longer to actually go into gear. Didn't think much of it and it has been fine since. Pulled the camper a few hours away for the weekend..
Now the truck is slow to engage reverse. Even when warm, when I put it in Reverse, it takes up to 30 seconds or so for it to 'catch'. I checked fluid and it's ok. Shifter feels ok. Fwd gears are fine?
Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: Trans Slipping From 40 M/hr To 65 M/hr?
Feels like my transmission is slipping from 40m/hr to 65m/hr. But only when I am at a constant speed and not when i am accelerating. only happens when I am at approximately 1400rpms and while in overdrive. Does not happen in any other gear just overdrive.

View 7 RepliesFord F-150 - 1997-2003 :: Trans Slipping Below 35 Miles An Hour
I have a 1997 F150 4 x 4 with the 5.4 overdrive transmission. When I accelerate from a stop I can feel the slip of the transmission until I reach exactly 35 miles an hour. Above 35 seems to be normal and have plenty of torque.
The funny thing about this is I have had a 2001 Windstar same 35 miles an hour. I have also owned a 1997 Ford Explorer with this exact same issue. Three different motor and trans combination that will not lock up until you reach 35 miles an hour.
The truck has 213,000 I have replaced all coils fuel filters catalytic converter and torque converter. Have exterior tranny cooler. engine runs good and strong. And no code I have a reader.
Ford Escape / Hybrid :: 2002 XLS 2.0L - Slipping Trans Clutch
2002 Escape XLS 2.0L 4-cyl 5MT FWD. Slipping Clutch.
I've read here n there that the Escape clutch is a poor design & others have reported that a clutch repair doesn't solve their shuddering problem. After putting off the job for a while, I'd like to replace the clutch.
Here's a topic from here : Manual Transmission shudder / fill & drain access?
Ford Transmission :: 1989 E350 - Trans Appears To Be Slipping When Get Around 50 MPH
I have a 1989 tioga 460ford and the trans appears to be slipping when i get around 50mph. The engine revs up but it won't go more than 50. The engine again revs up but there does not feel like the power of the engine is being transferred to the trans. the coach runs fine up until i try to go beyond 50. I have 34000 miles on the rig. Some one suggested that I check the catalytic converter. what else should i look for?
View 2 RepliesFord Transmission :: 2000 F250 7.3 - Trans Slipping - Torque Converter?
I was driving my 7.3 down the road and it started acting like the trans was slipping, it revved up and tried kicking down a couple times and when I slowed down and went to speed back up it just had no power coming through the trans to the wheels it just revved. I put it in neutral and it idled up for about 5 seconds. I put it in park n shut it down. I fired it back up after looking everything over and it moved about half mile down the road and no power to the wheels again. The trans is full of fluid, is there a sensor that could of went bad or just the torque converter or the entire thing shot? Only owned my truck 6 months has a trans and motor swap already from previous owner. 180k on current motor n Trans. 382k on my truck. t6 4" turbo back banks exhaust only mods I know of.
View 11 RepliesFord - Explorer :: 2006 - Trans Slipping - Shifts But Requires More RPM To Move?
My wife's car, '06 explorer 4.0, experienced trans. slipping issues last year. The trans was replaced under extended warranty. Now it's doing the same thing. Warranty expired. The dealer claims they can't find a problem. It does it when you slow down at a light and then accelerate without stopping, or going around a corner and accelerating. It shifts but requires more rpm to move. Almost like I am dragging a piano or something.
View 2 RepliesFord 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: Trans Slipping / Hard To Shift - Code PO671
My tranny is slipping all over the place . I recently less than 1500 miles ago changed tranny fulid, tree branch and TP filter, ford filters, and 8 to 9 quarts of mercon SP. My truck is shifting like a bucking bronco. Came up with PO671. So should I replace just the 1 solenoid. Or all the valve body? I plan to run a gauge in cab to see shift pressures for testing purposes to aid in troubleshooting for current issue... reason for fluid change is history unkown.
