Ford Excursion :: Passenger Side Rear Wheel Was Smoking
Got home from work last night, passengers side rear wheel was smoking, and damn hot to the touch. Drivers side rear was hot, but not as bad as passenger's side.
My first thought was worst case sceneries - wheel bearings. After getting it in the air, in neutral, I can turn the wheels, but, it takes a lot of effort. There's no grinding noises, but, it sounds like a brake is in constant contact.
I'm in the process of taking both wheels off, but, I'm leaning towards either the brakes/calipers or the ebrake dragging. It definitely smells like hot brakes, and not diff fluid.
Ford Excursion :: Running Really Bad / Misfiring / Smoking And Sounding Real Rough
So Friday before last my ex laid down on me while i was headed to work. So I parked it in a walmart parking lot and caught a ride to work with a friend then had it towed home that evening. Problem i was having is it started running really bad, miss firing, smoking, and sounding real rough, but I wasn't getting any trouble codes. So after both uvch's, icp, ipr, icp pigtail, checking fuel for water contamination and pulling my hair out, i decided to check the oil and found it to be 4 quarts low. Talk about feel like a knuckle head.... While it was down it did receive a new water pump, a diesel site 203* thermostat, new billet thermostat housing, Gooch's Radiator Flush Procedure, and some fresh rotella etc.
View 5 RepliesVolvo - 240 :: 1988 Wagon Rattling And Smoking When Accelerating Hard Up A Hill
i have an 88 volvo 240 wagon with 89K miles on it... it's been passed down through the family, is in great shape and is a joy to own. i have always have it serviced at the volvo dealership and recently had a bunch of work done to it including complete lube, oil and filter change, replaced the radiator overflow cap, replaced a leaking valve cover gasket, replaced the oil pan gasket, replaced the rear diff gasket and added oil, and replaced the sway bar links (it was an expensive visit).
to my dismay, on the way home, accelerating hard up a hill, something under the car started to rattle and black smoke started coming out of the back of the car. i took it back to the dealership and they replaced a leaking seal that they said was the problem, on the way home, same thing with the rattle and smoke happened on the same hill... maybe just stop driving on that hill, right? so i took it back and they changed the oil again (the oil levels were a bit high) and said they couldn't find anything wrong... drove the car home and seemed not to have the problem (though i did take it easy on the hill).
so today, i take the car out for a drive (usually just drive it on the weekend), and accelerating hard up the same hill i get the same rattling and black smoke that continues until i let off the acceleration. by the time i get home (a couple blocks later), it's like nothing ever happened.
Is it safe to drive as long as i don't accelerate hard? Never had this issue before all the work was done, kind of seems like i should take the car back to the dealership, but this would be the 4th time for the same issue...
Ford Excursion :: 2000 - Surging Like Feeling Around 30 MPH In V10
2000 V10 about 179k ... Well my wife was traveling from California to Everett, Wa area and well I told her to keep on oil level they failed to do so and check engine light came on. They pulled into Orielly shop managed to fill it back with oil but the only things that came up on engine light with shops OBD reader was air bag and possible fuel pump.
I don't have the codes but let me remind you I'm getting my information from my frustrated wife who moved up there with my kids while I'm in San Diego for Military Training. I will be heading that way soon but in the meantime I want to try to troubleshoot it. I asked her to go back to auto shop and get the codes this time.
The truck drives and runs fine now except engine light still on and around 30mph from what I'm being told with the best description possible it surges. Recent tune up to include wires and plugs. Air filter is good to go. I'm leaning towards fuel filter? maybe bad gas on the travel but if it only does it at certain speeds maybe not. Or Air system like vacuum leak? Possible transmission issue? Not sure if that would cause anything or not.
Prius (Gen 2) :: Surging While Accelerating When Entering The Highway
We have owned our 07' since it was new and have performed regular maintenance per the owners manual. We are at 105,000 miles and I've noticed a subtle surging sensation when entering the highway with my foot flat on the accelerator.
Looking at the MFD, I see both the engine and motor supplying power continuously during the surging sensation. When this occurs, the batteries are never "low". They always show 5-8 bars of charge. I tuned the car with factory plugs, air filter and PCV valve, but that did not work. The sensation only seems to occur at wide open throttle and is undetectable at lower acceleration or at standard highway speeds. I'm happy to ignore the issue, but am curious what might be going on...
Just reading up on Optima Yellow Top batteries and issues for Prius owners. We installed one about two years ago. Doing some of the tests mentioned online, like engine in run position, but not running yields a battery voltage of 11.9. Out of spec, I think. Engine running = 14.1v.
Camry :: 1998 / 4 Cylinder - Surging When Accelerating Hard And Hitting Just Over 4000 RPM
I have a Camry with 198K miles. When accelerating hard and hitting just over 4000 rpm the car will start surging. Letting off the gas and allowing the the automatic transmission to shift will stop the surging.
Will do this in any gear. The first few times the P1310 code came up but the last few times it did not throw any codes.
Also have the P0401 code which I have had for several years.
This is a very consistent problem which only occurs at just over 4000 rpms.
Just did some more testing and found that slowly revving the engine with car in Park will cause the same issue. When it gets to 4000 RPM it surges. Is there are rev limiter at 4000 rpm for some reason?
Toyota - Tacoma :: 2003 / 3.4l Engine Surging - Loosing Power When Accelerating
I have a 2003 toyota tacoma 4x4 with the 3.4l engine. Recently I have noticed that while accelerating I am losing power. I first noticed it would surge while going slowly uphill and since it has started happening all the time. I especially notice a serious dip in power during freeway acceleration at around 3000 rpm. The truck has 100000 miles on it. I have changed the plugs, run injector cleaner (the stuff you buy at the gas station), cleaned the throttle body, changed the air filter, and cleaned the mass airflow sensor. I have played a little with the throttle position sensor and that seems to have some affect on the timing of the surge but it is hard to tell. Of course toyota doesn't service the TPS for that year but rather try to sell you a new throttle body $1100.00!!! Could this be the catalytic converter or maybe a faulty injector? Also, I have not changed the timing belt yet.
View 3 RepliesLexus GX 2004-09 :: RPMs Started Surging While Idle And High Pitch Humming Noise When Accelerating
My girlfriend has a 2008 with around 120k miles on it. It's been pretty flawless but yesterday the RPMs started surging while idle and made kind of a high pitch humming noise when accelerating.
Today on her way to work she said the radio was going in and out, the battery light lit up and then the rest of the dash lights came on, and the speedometer stopped working.
What could be the problem? Could it just be the battery?
Ford Excursion :: Vibration When Accelerating From A Stop Up To 40 MPH
I have a noticeable driveline vibration when accelerating from a stop up to 40 m.p.h., after that speed it goes away. I have driven it up to 75 m.p.h. on the highway with no vibrations at that speed. It only does it from 0-40. I have checked the u-joints and driveshaft run-out and all is good. The truck was lifted 6" by the P/O. The pinion angle looks too high to me. (It has 6* shims under the springs).Front u-joint angle is 1/2*, while the rear is 2 1/2* in relation to the driveshaft. If this is the case, wouldn't the vibrations get worse, not better, when speeds increase above 40 m.p.h.? What else to check???
View 8 RepliesFord Excursion :: 2001 - Thumping Noise While Accelerating?
2001 v10 ... I have a thumping noise under acceleration... also hear it if brake torquing.. i do not hear the sound if in park or neutral...while riding down road the sound goes away when you let of the gas. Torque converter has been replaced.... exhaust manifold bolts are ok too. Been to 3 places and no one can seem to pin point it or no where to begin.
View 6 RepliesFord Excursion :: Clunking Sound From Front End When Accelerating From A Stop
When accelerating from a stop, I get a clunking sound from the front end. I took some pics of the sway bar and I think it maybe loose. There is a gap between the bolt between the bar. Is this normal, or can I tighten it with the X on the ground or does it have to be up on a lift to properly tighten?
View 14 RepliesFord Excursion :: Elusive Rattle While Accelerating And At Non Regular Times
I've finally found the elusive and annoying rattle under my '00 Ex V10. It only rattled while accelerating and at non regular times. I searched many threads on FTE looking for suggestions and many stated the flywheel cover(among other things) may be the culprit. Nope, all good. Turned out to be a heat shield on the exhaust crossover. It is welded on the four corners and one weld had let loose. It was almost imperceptible. It took going under on a cool morning with a small rubber mallet and giving it a tap to find it. Took the grinder out-no more rattle! If you have that elusive rattle give that shield a check.
View 8 RepliesFord Excursion :: Squeaking / Squealing Noise When Letting Off Gas After Accelerating
This squeaking/squealing noise only happens when letting off the gas after accelerating 70%+ throttle. Quickly letting off the gas after revving up makes the noise . It sounds like it comes from under the drivers side door, and does NOT sound like a turbo. Its a creaky/squeaking noise.
Wont happen in park, does happen in 2wd or 4wd, on highway or in city. [URL] ....
Ford Excursion :: 2000 V10 - Ticking Noise When Cold Or Warm Only When Accelerating
I have a ticking noise that seems to be coming from the drivers side of the engine. 2000 Excursion. It only happens when accelerating in every gear between 1400-2100. No noise at idle or park. Same noise when cold or warm, again only when accelerating. Goes away when you take your foot off gas. New exhaust studs, exhaust does not seem to be leaking, no carbon build up anywhere. No engine codes. Truck runs great and no loss of power. V10 with 120 k on it. Really annoying.
View 14 RepliesFord :: Oil Consumption Without Smoking Or Leaking
I have a rebuilt Ford 289 engine (do not know how long ago it was rebuilt) that takes a quart of oil in about 250 to 300 miles. It does not smoke or leak, runs fine and has good compression. A friend has a 350 Chevy engine with the same issue. What can the reason for this oil consumption without smoking or leaking?

View 3 RepliesFord - Explorer :: 2008 4.6 V8 Smoking At Startup
A few weeks back I had an issue with my transmission, while moving the vehicle I noticed white smoke when starting the engine that would go away after a couple seconds.
If I let the engine warm up, it starts smoking again, removing the radiator cap and it stops smoking. I have checked spark plugs, fuel injectors, cylinders for water, but cannot find water anywhere. No water is showing up in the oil either. The transmission repair is on hold (hoping to just replace solenoid pack) while I try to figure out the engine issue. But at this point I am not sure what could be causing the smoke.
It's white smoke, 4.6 v8 on a 2008 Explorer. Is it the head gasket? Or am I overlooking something?
Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: Smoking And Bouncing Front End
My truck is a 1998 F-150 4X4 set up for towing etc. The left front started smoking and the front end just started bouncing around very badly. Of course I pulled off and let it cool down. My question is this; I've pulled the hub and the bearings seem smooth although maybe a bit tight. I've checked the caliper and it seems to be working properly.
View 5 RepliesFord - Ranger :: 2001 - Knocking And Smoking When Accelerate Uphill
About 3 weeks after an oil change, my 01 Ford Ranger started knocking and smoking when I accelerated up hills. I checked the oil levels to find that it was completely empty. Refilled the oil, but the problem persisted. Tried gas additive--nothing. Finally limped into the Ford dealership where they kept my car for 6 weeks trying to figure out what the problem was. After new plugs, wires, MAF sensor, coil, and PCM the problem seemed to be fixed...mostly. Knocking and smoking eventually stopped until I checked the oil levels again and it was empty. Added oil which started the symptoms all over again. Mechanic ruled out blown gasket. Claims knocking and smoking are unrelated (even though they happen at the same time 100% of the time). Smoke is white. Knocking (at its worst) sounds like a bolt rattling around in engine. Car does not lose power, and when I gun the engine it seems to go away. Only happens going up hills (of which Tennessee has plenty of).
