Ford Brakes/Suspension :: Replacing Shocks / Bushing Completely Seized Up To The Bolt
I made a thread in the F150 section but maybe it should have went here. Anyhow I'm replacing the front shocks on my 99 150, and well the bushing was completely seized up to the bolt on the bottom of the shock and I ended up breaking the one side of the shock mount off with it. I can't see any easy way of getting it off, I fear I might run into the same problem with the other side.
Would it be ok to just bolt the new shock back on, sans the forward mount? If its just bolted through the rear bolt hole will there be too much play? I really don't feel like replacing the whole lower suspension arm on this beater truck, and I dont think my welding skills are up to that. I don't think my little stick welder even has enough heat.
Bmw - 328 :: Replacing Suspension Rack?
A few weeks ago I drove my car straight into a curb and killed the steering column. The car was not drivable. After a discussion with BMW service rep, I obtained a copy of an addendum to the steering and alignment manual that indicates if certain parts were damaged to the suspension then the steering rack MUST be replaced -- despite the fact that there is absolutely NO indication that the part is damaged. My problem is that my insurance company is refusing to pay for the part since it shows no signs of damage and BMW will revoke the warranty on the steering column and attempted to remove themselves from any liability if the steering rack did fail after suspension repairs. I can't consciously drive my car knowing that there is a possibility that the steering rack could go out at any time so I am forced to pay the 2k. Is this fair? Can an auto manufacturer force their customers into a catch-22 like this? It is my understanding that BMW and Mercedes are the only automakers that do this. Not even Ferrari.

View 14 RepliesFord Excursion :: 2002 - Replacing Fuel Pump?
It has been a while. My 2000 2wd 5.4 Ex has developed a issue and I'm going to say it is the fuel pump. It was right before Christmas and I went out and the truck would not start. I panicked and remembered the relay. It pressed it, it clicked and off I went. Last week I was leaving work and it did the same thing but the relay was not tripped.
I got under it and rapped the tank a couple times with a rubber mallet and it fired up just fine. Went out this morning, super cold out and nothing. Rapped on the tank, nothing. Took the other car to work and came home, rapped on it again and nothing. The fuses are good but I'm sure it is the pump because I was able to hit the tank and start it.
My question is, any write up on removing the tank or a video? I like to see what i'm up against before I start to pull it. The bad thing for me is I have a little over half a tank of gas in it and no place to put it. This is going to be fun.
Ford Excursion :: 2002 - Replacing Manual Hubs?
So I will be replacing the manual hubs on my Ford 2002 Excursion 7.3 diesel 4x4 with the WARN 38826. Just a few questions. Will I need to use the small snap ring? Also, do I have to worry about blocking the vacuum lines going to each stock hub? Any videos or step by step instructions with pictures for my truck.

My upper ball joint on the drivers side needs to be replaced, so obviously I'm going to replace all four.
Any recommendations on ball joints rockauto has a lot of options. I was just going to buy the motorcraft but thought I should ask here first.
The write up in the tech folder also includes parts I may need, are there any parts that I should buy to have on hand just in case?

Lexus SC430 :: Replacing Navigation System - Upgrading Stock Suspension
Is there any way to replace the stock nav system with something that is easier to use and more up to date and works? I did upgrade the disc and it's still a pain to use. My Iphone does a much better job, is easier to use. Also can upgrading the stock suspension on a 2003 SC 430, I got it a couple of months ago with 24000 miles but would like better handling but would like to keep the ride decent.
View 3 RepliesFord Excursion :: 2003 - Lights Not Turning Off After Replacing Back Hatch
I have a 2003 Excursion. I shut the back hatch the other day and the window completely shattered. I bought another one from the junk yard.
My husband replaced it and everything seems to fit right and it closes down and it looks nice. Problem is now the interior lights wont shut off at all.
Running board lights are on as well. We have had to un-hook the battery to keep it from running down. Is there a sensor or something that needs to be reset?

I've almost broken the thing in half trying to get access to the bulb... My FSM doesn't give any indication how to separate the housing just that the bulb needs replaced...

View 4 RepliesFord Brakes/Suspension :: 2005 Excursion - Squeals When Turning Left
Just did the rear brakes on my 05 EX. New rotors and pads. Now there is a squeal when going around a left turn. It is a constant squeal when going around a left turn, not a squeak-squeak-squeak. Sounds like it is coming from the left rear. Took it back apart to make sure I didnt miss anything and everything looks fine.
View 1 RepliesFord Excursion :: Clunking Noise In Front End Only Happening During Suspension Travel
I have a noise in the front end that is only happening during suspension travel. It is really bad on bumpy roads. I thought it was my sway-bar end links but they are a year old and tight. I have checked the shocks and they are tight. It sounds like a clunking noise. Could the front drive axles be making this noise while not locked in?
View 14 RepliesFord Brakes/Suspension :: 2000 Excursion - Rear Brake Line Leak
Rear steel brake line ruptured the other day (was pretty rusty). Despite being an idiot in regards to automotive repair (among many other things), I decided to give it a shot. I was able to get the damaged section off, went to Autozone with the broken piece, they matched it up, were nice enough to cut it and put on one larger fitting (because the two were different sizes) and flare it for me.
I was able to get the one side (at the T fitting) on OK. That was the "new" side, the one they flared at Autozone. Looks good. No leaks.
The stock side, at the passenger side caliper, leaks like crazy. Not out the threads, but out the hole through which the line passes. Know what I mean?
I'm having a hard time figuring out what's happening, because I'm not sure how this thing works. Does the line fit flush to something inside the connection at the caliper? Is it a bad flare?
It did not go in easy, but the new one was just as much trouble as the fitting that came out (stock?), so it must be right.
