Ford 7.3L Power Stroke (1999-2003) :: No Power When Come To A Stop And Accelerate

Cruising down the street in my 7.3, i come to a stop, and I go to accelerate, and there's no power. It says "service engine soon" so if I try to turn it over again it'll just crank. But if I turn the key off and back on, it'll start right up. It's done this 3 times.

Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: 2003 F250 - Intermittent Hesitation While Trying To Accelerate

Finally registered on this site after hearing good things from others who are currently on here. Been a 6.0 PSD owner since buying the truck since new in 2003-F250 CCSB. I have done regular maintenance on it and have had a good run until recently. Everything is stock on the motor and currently has 229 000 miles.

I will describe my current problem: I have borrowed my brother's tablet and have the following numbers from the Torque pro app. While trying to accelerate it now has a hesitation and seems to not have the power.

At idle: 630 psi HPOP, 24 % IPR, 47 volts FICM, ICP volts .1
Trying to accelerate on at highway speeds: 1230 psi HPOP, 83% IPR, 47 volts FICM, ICP volts 2.6

Also, sometimes when starting the truck it seems to rev extra high for a split second. My brother says I may have a high pressure leak on the system. What I should check first?

Toyota - Tundra :: 2003 - Hesitation When Try To Accelerate From A Dead Stop Or While Driving Along

I have a 2003 Toyota Tundra V6. The problem I have with it is it hesitates. It does not happen ALL the time but it is very frequent. Sometimes it happens when I try to accelerate from a dead stop and other times while I am driving along (does not matter what speed). It will usually hesitate for a few seconds then everything is normal. The check engine light thus not come on.

I took it into Toyota. They duplicated the problem on the first test drive but did not have their equipment hooked up at the time. They kept the truck for over a week and finally got it to happen again. I guess they must have only been going on short test drives because it happens to me multiple times a day. They told me it was the throttle body and it needed to be replaced. My jaw hit the floor when they told me how much they charge to replace it. I ran this by a couple of friends who work on cars on the side and they said it sounded like the mass air flow sensor needed to be replaced. Since this was much cheaper than a throttle body, I replaced that. However, it did not solve the problem.

Ford 7.3L Power Stroke (1999-2003) :: Hesitation When Accelerating At Speed

When I'm driving at highway speed and press the accelerator after coasting a bit, the engine stumbles then picks up and accelerates. The fuel bowl assembly is brand new as of 5 months ago, and I drained of any water last month when I changed oil. Truck is stock with 350k miles.

Apart from this issue, it runs well and idles smoothly. Injectors are healthy per a buzz test a powerstroke mechanic performed last year. What could cause the stumble off idle?

Ford 7.3L Power Stroke (1999-2003) :: Surging During Warm Up And Some Low RPM Hesitation - No Start

My truck - early 2000 CC short bed, 300K miles

Background on my problem: I had a short list of long overdue maintenance and updates to do that time and money kept me from tackling. Found a little of both so I replaced the water pump, HPOP lines, re O-ringed the HPOP/IPR, deleted the AIH, replaced all of the brake lines in the engine bay, put new fuel lines to the filter bowl. All of this took me about 2 weeks so the truck sat with the batteries out for that long.

After buttoning it all up, it fired right up, a little slower than normal but figured that was air in the fuel lines, HPOP, etc. The only issue I had was the battery light stayed on. Thinking I had an alternator issue, I checked it and it was getting about 14.25v so figured that was good. I used it regularly for about 3 weeks, the light stayed on, and noticed some surging during warm up and some low rpm hesitation.

Then it stop dead on me driving down the road. Turns out it was all my doing, I had torqued the bolts on the water pump pulley but didn't use Locktite. The bolts backed out, shredded the belt, and ended up yanking the CPS wire harness out of the sensor. So that made total sense.

Fast forward another week, got new wiring pigtail and CPS (never replaced it before now) from a couple of the good FTE vendors. I am not sure about the wiring on the pigtail, my truck has a green, blue and brown/gray wires, the wiring diagram I found online showed green, blue and gray. I wired it connecting the brown/gray where the gray line goes (center contact) and closed everything up.

Another thing to mention is that I have an Edge Juice with Attitude that has been on the truck since '06. I lost that connector in the process and they were absolutely no support in trying to get me running again. Wouldn't or couldn't tell me which wire they connect to so I used the green wire which is the CPS signal wire to the ECM. Once I am running again, going to get rid of the Edge.

So that is where I am now. No start, I've been reading some of the "what to do" posts, the most likely is that I don't see the tach bounce when trying to start. So I want to check the wiring to make sure I have good connections to the CPS.

So I don't have any diagnostic software to read codes, etc. I really need to fix this myself and only have one set of hands most of the time. Not really sure what the problem was before it stopped running and now I can't diagnose the surging and hesitating.

Ford 7.3L Power Stroke (1999-2003) :: Running Rough When Accelerate / Bogs Down And Looses Power

I was wondering if fuel injectors throw a code when it goes out. I have a 02 7.3 been running rough when you accelerate bogs down and looses power not sure but sometimes gas light would come on knowing I have gas in it could that be a sign of the sending unite and that's why it runs rough..

Ford 7.3L Power Stroke (1999-2003) :: White Smoke / SES Light Comes On When Accelerate

When my 99.5 SD is cold ( 50-60 f) it smokes a lot of white horrible smelling smoke for the first 2-4 minutes. If plugged in the block heater it doesn't do it. Also when cold, when you accelerate the SES light comes on until you let off on the throttle then it goes off. Even going 10mph in low rpm? Once engine is up to temp it doesn't do it anymore. It seems to run fine otherwise. I do have 2, 700 CCA Napa batteries that are from 2011 which I plan on replacing next month with Motorcraft Maxx 850 CCA.

I have replaced the UVCH, CPS, Fresh Oil and put additives in my fuel. I have even disconnected my DP Tuner F5 and it still does it. I have AE with ford bundle and it seems like my HPOP seems to be working fine as well as buzz test and glow plug. Could it be an injector ( I have stage1 casserly from full force)? What about a sensor not working? It has always smoked since I have had it ( about 3 years) but the SES light issue has only been happening since my IDM was replaced and I had a mechanic work on it.

Ford 7.3L Power Stroke (1999-2003) :: Slight Hesitation In Throttle While Cruising / Truck Stalled Won't Fire

Last night I bought 2000 F250, 346k on it... Crew cab short bed 4x4 with ranch hand bumpers like I wanted .... Headed back home (Miami FL ~1100mi) and covered about 200 miles @70-75mph before i ran into few problems ....

First off, while cruising I noticed slight hesitation in the throttle, with loss of speed regardless of pedal pressure, noticeable on inclines. It would go away on downhill and get smooth response again and pick up speed. This went on for about 40 miles.

Then I noticed heater blower stop blowing hot and start blowing cold, without me changing any settings. At the same moment, I noticed temp gauge move up and I hit next exit offramp to check what's up. During right turn at the end of off ramp truck stalled. Pulled to the shoulder, and popped hood.

Noticed empty degass/overflow bottle. Carefully opened lid and water gushed up to the top. When all pressure slowly released, water pulled down and emptied the bottle. Both upper and lower radiator hoses are empty. Engine oil has no traces of water tho. There were no leaks under the truck. I then tried to fire up the truck to get me to the gas station 1/8th mile away.

No crank in Park. WTS comes on and goes off. Cranks in Neutral, RPMs come up some, oil pressure shoots up to normal running position, but won't fire. Tried a while then gave up as not to kill starter and batteries completely.

Fuel pump works 20 sec then shuts off. There is fuel in bowl. I covered 140 miles since last full fill up, so not fuel pickup issue I don't think.

Summary

Have crank
Have RPM
Have oil pressure
Have fuel
Have (had) batteries, now not so hot

It's cold out ....

Ford 7.3L Power Stroke (1999-2003) :: Series Of Clicks And Chirps And Acted Like No Power When Starting

About 10 days ago following a heavy rain, I went to start my truck. It made a series of clicks and chirps, and acted like there was no power. Like dead battery or something. After fiddling get with the key and trying to figure the issues, all the sudden started normal door chimes....and truck started...no issues after that for several days.

Had another rain storm...same issues only this time took longer to get it to act normal. Once it did....no problems till today. This time wasn't a big rain...still acting weird. Battery's have power. ..it's not a battery or alternator issue I'm sure. Seems like a grounding issue if I had to guess....but can not tell where...or if that's really it.? No codes or lights once it acts normal.

Ford 7.3L Power Stroke (1999-2003) :: Suddenly Not Starting?

'99 F-250 7.3 PS 2WD Automatic 246,000 miles

Jumped in my truck a bit ago and it wouldn't start, although it is turning over. The "Wait to Start" light is not coming on and the Overdrive button on the shifter is lit up OFF and won't change with me pressing the button. I've checked all the fuses under hood and inside cab with multimeter and everything checks out ok.

Also, when it was raining last week I found that when I turned on my windshield wipers the truck would die. My solution to get home was to just flip it back & forth real quick every so often so I could see out the windshield.

Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: Hesitation When Accelerate From A Stop Sign

This morning as I was driving to work, my truck hesitated as I tried to accelerate from a stop sign. I pressed the pedal and nothing, almost felt like it was going to stall. After about 3 seconds it started driving again and I had no further issues. It seems to only do this in the morning when it is cold. It has done this a couple of times before, but usually it recovers almost immediately. I had no CEL come on. 2007 F150.....

Ford 7.3L Power Stroke (1999-2003) :: 2000 F350 - Slight Hesitation With Throttle While Driving Mostly In Lower Gears

(2000 F-350, 7.3L, 205k miles) Over this weekend, I noticed while driving mostly in the lower gears, that there was a slight hesitation with the throttle pedal depressed about half way or less. Seem to get worse as the day went by, but no lights or anything came on. Changed the fuel filter and added a fuel injection cleaner to the tank. Checked the oil and it was low, so I filled it to the correct amount.

Drove it around the next day, and it seemed to be good, until it warmed up some, and continued to hesitate. The hesitation seems as if it's not getting constant fuel, and the truck jerks a little. Once you get up to over 2000 rpms, it goes away. Looking up other reviews on similar issues, most have pointed to the throttle pedal sensor and just changed out the pedal assembly. Before I take it that far, I wanted to see what was the corrective action.

Ford 7.3L Power Stroke (1999-2003) :: F250 Not Starting / Won't Fire Up?

My dad has a 99 F250 with a no start issue. Everything was starting and running fine one day. The next he gets a no start. Cranks fast and fine but wont fire up and start. He has a scangaugeII hooked up to it and his oil pressures and volts look fine. His tach moves when he is trying to start it. He checked the icp sensor and it had oil through it so he replaced it with a Ford part. Unplugged it and the scangauge pressure goes up but no start. He also replaced the ipr with a new Ford one just in case. He checked and is getting low pressure and high pressure oil. I am having him check the fuel heater fuse #22 to make sure it is not blown. He had the block heater plugged in all night along with a battery charger to make sure they are topped off as well. We have gone through a couple of the checklists on this site for a no start condition but nothing has solved it yet. If you need any info off the scangauge let me know and I will post the exact readings. I think he is sitting at about 200k on the motor. No major issues or problems until now. He is currently also pulling the ICM to check it out as well. No codes are being thrown.

Ford 7.3L Power Stroke (1999-2003) :: How To Prevent Hydrolocking Before Starting The Engine

I removed the driver's side glow plugs and injectors and put new o-rings and coppers on the injectors and reinstalled them. Then I tried to suck out the fuel and oil which had glugged into the primarily #8 cylinder and got no oil out.

Then I used a bump switch to push the oil out the glow plug holes and got no oil out of them. Then I did a compression test on the driver's side cylinders and installed new Motorcraft glow plugs.

I have not spun the engine since and it has been about three weeks since I did the compression test.

Tomorrow I am completing my hutch mod and reinstalling the fuel tank.

Did spinning the engine without the glow plugs in, force the oil and fuel out the exhaust valves?

Should I do something else to prevent hydrolocking before starting the engine?

Ford 7.3L Power Stroke (1999-2003) :: Truck Not Starting When Cold / Would Not Crank Up

I had issues with my F250 cranking last winter when the temperature dropped, so I changed out the glow plugs in the spring. I hadn't been able to truly test them yet, since it hasn't been cold, but the other morning my truck wouldn't crank up. It was 40 degrees out the night before, and it had been almost 24 hours since I cranked the truck, but it seems to me like the truck shouldn't have an issue in that mild weather.

I'm not sure what I need to do next to try and fix this problem, it's been driving me crazy and risks stranding me if I park for a while in an area where I am unable to plug by block heater in. The truck cranks fine when I have had it plugged in for a while, so I'm fairly certain it's a heating issue. I haven't done any tests since last year, but I know that the GPR was working properly last winter, which is why I changed out the glow plugs.
