Ford 6.7L Power Stroke Diesel :: Tire Sizes

hello, so yesterday at the local gas station I was talking to a guy who has a new, nice looking GMC 1 ton 4x4 nondually truck. we started talking about milage and he told me that going up 2 sizes and adjusting it in the onboard computer he was now getting 22mpg.
so I know this isnt an apples to apples kind of thing, and I do know that for example on my F250 it is geared to haul... but has anyone got real data on getting back down to a 3.55 gear adjusting tire size? has it made a difference ? especially if it is just a DD and not a work hauler. yes we all know if you go too far milage gets worse, but I always found for a non-work truck that the 3.2-3.5 rear gear ratio or equivalant eith by changing gears or tire size was a sweet spot for MPG.
right now at 13K I get about 17-17.5 mpg unless I am driving on the interstate and then I get a tad more.

thanks Fert

Ford Excursion :: 2003 - Tire Sizes For Lift?

I have a 2003 excursion 4X4 on factory 16" wheels. I want to keep my same wheels. Want to install 7" lift. How big of tire can I go? I was looking at the 345/75R16 and 365/75R16 BFG Mud Terrains. Not many manufacturers are making big tires for 16s. I want to go as big as I can without cutting or spacers. Will NOT put any type of Super Swamper. This truck will never see mud.

Ford 7.3L Power Stroke (1999-2003) :: Rear Tire Slips Into The Muddy Rut

So my brother in law calls me because he is stuck in the mud. I back up to hook up to him. One rear tire slips into the muddy rut. Other tire is on dry hardpack. The tire in the mud spins non-stop. The tire on the hardpack wont move.... I feather the brakes as I have read it will engage the truetrac. Nothing.... Is this thing junk? I was super ticked off. How do I test the truetrac to see if it still works?

Ford 7.3L Power Stroke (1999-2003) :: Power Steering Fluid Spurting In Left Tire Well

While turning very slow and sharp on the farm, I heard a pop under the hood. I then lost power steering and brakes. I saw power steering fluid spurting in the left tire well behind the tire. Look under hood and saw fluid coming from a fitting on the side of the power steering pump. I have attached a photo....one photo with nothing and then other with a screw driver tip on the fitting.

It appears that the the pressure fitting blew out the side when I turned sharp. It has a nut from which it came (compression of some sort?). I can push the nipple of the fitting back into the nut but I guess the pressure is gone.

Ford 7.3L Power Stroke (1999-2003) :: Brake Fluid Dripping Onto Front Tire - Use Cruise Control?

OK, so a friend's F150 just went up in flames in his driveway and he told me that the problem was the hot link behind a plastic/ rubber barrier at the main brake cylinder. I had a recall notice on my old truck but since I left the US and took the truck I never paid much attention to it, thinking typical overkill. Now I already heard from another buddy who caught lit brake fluid dripping onto the front tire and got the fire out before it spread and looked up the info today. Looks like our trucks are affected. Best to unplug the harness that goes into the brake master cylinder will prevent this problem from occurring? I never use cruise where I am, the roads are too small and slow.

Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: 2003 - Front Passenger Tire Leak With A/C On?

I just see a fluid by the front passenger tire leak when the diesel is running and ac is on.There was fluid up by both aluminum lines going into a plastic canister in the engine compartment on the passenger side.I couldn't find any cracks in the hoses or aluminum lines..The plastic canister I believe is (AC ACCUMULATOR ) did have a hiss of air when I shut the truck off. I can't see where the clear liquid is coming from. Just started to leak by the front passenger tire.

Ford 7.3L Power Stroke (1999-2003) :: Nut Size For Intercooler Boot Clamp?

just installed all my intercooler boots with plenum inserts. Had a torque wrench set at around 14 lb/ft and all of a sudden POP! the inside of nut on clamp stripped out. of course its on the boot going to the plenum. Any one have this happen? Brand new clamps from riff raff. Am I cranking to hard, maybe torque wrench isnt accurate, i don't know but didn't seem like i was getting on it enough to do that. the threads came out on the bolt looking like a heli coil. not to cool. Google it and another forum popped up , everyone was saying to crank em down. apparently you cant do that , not even 14 lb/ft. Anyways went to hd and threaded the bolt into their thread gauge. the only one that seemed to fit was 1/4-28 fine thread( which they don't carry in a nylon thread lock nut). Is this the correct size? How to gauge how tight to tighten the nut?

Tomorrow and it should all be done.. hopefully... Any ways... my preliminary numbers are 40" front (ground to fender) and 41.5" rear.. Might be 1/2" to 1" off since I haven't finished the job AND the truck is sitting on dirt. Any ways, What size wheel/tires can I fit on there now? And will I need a spacer with that size?
