Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: Won't Start Once The Oil Temp Reaches About 117 Degrees?
My F250 Will not start once the oil temp reaches about 117 degrees. Once oil temp drops it fires up. In the morning it only crranks for a couple of seconds. What could this be? I am getting over 1300 PSI HPOP while cranking. FICM Volts 48.5. Just no hot start. What do you think it is and how much at the repair shop. I have the Torque App, IPR values are good to I think.
View 10 RepliesFord 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: 2003 F350 - No Start Below 55 Degrees?
Just purchased a 2003 F-350 Super Duty Lariat Crew Cab w/ 6.0L Powerstroke Diesel w/ 192,000 miles. This truck will be used exclusively for pulling my 36', 8,000lbs travel trailer. I have a 2011 F-150 Ecoboost as my daily driver. The 2003 was purchased from a used dealer in Texas and is in immaculate condition and was definitely not a work truck. It was a 55 degree day and the truck was inside their building when I picked it up. No starting issues then and drove it the 3 hour 70-75mph trip home, with 2 stops on the way (wife was along) with no issues. Started quick and ran like a champ. The next morning it was 32 degrees outside and it would not start. I cycled the key on & off several times prior to starting and still no start. Plugged the heater in and 1 hour later it fired up. I have noticed since that if the outdoor temperature is below 55 degrees, it will not start without being plugged in. When plugged in, it starts easy, no smoke, purrs like a tiger at idle and runs great. I Have started on a mental list of things to check.....here goes:
1. The dealer stated he just changed the oil & filter. Can't rely on this 100 percent so I plan to put new 15W40 oil and filter in. Oklahoma summers are pretty warm.
2. Check the FICM for 48 voltage output.
3. The glow plug indicator on the dash is working. The colder it is outside, the longer it stays on. If the indicator is working, is this an indicator that the glow plug relay is working? Anyway....plan to check this relay.
4. Pull one or two glow plugs, ones easy to get to, to verify their function.
5. Check both batteries....I assume they will have to be disconnected from one another before doing this.
I have been working on gasoline engines for 40 years and no stranger to busted knuckles & dirty fingernails.....just new to diesel engines. I am impressed however with their construction and method of operating.
Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: 2008 - Oil Light Coming On At Idle And Deltas Of 20 - 40 Degrees?
I have a new to us 08 e350 6,0 that had a little problem with the oil light coming on at idle and deltas of 20-40 degrees. I put a manual gauge on and press seemed ok, bad sending unit. So finally got back to it and just pulled the oil cooler. OMG it came out, hardly any "oil" around it but semi solid sludge 2 inches thick all around it. Looks like an old 302 someone never changed the oil on. The pic is 2 chunks next to a 1/4 snap on ratchet, ya my camera sucks drank too muck coolant. Seen sludge around an oil cooler before ?
View 14 RepliesFord 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: High Pitched Squeal - Coolant Temp At About 180 Degrees
I have a 2006 350. When I am pulling my camp trailer (about 12,500 lbs) up a grade I hear a fan or blower turn on and I get a high pitched squeal. It will also have a beep and my in dash display will say high engine temp. I have a bullydog pmt programmer (i tow with it in stock mode) the display will show my coolant temp at about 180 degrees. If I pull over and let it idle for about 2 minutes the warning clears and the temp gauge returns to normal. the display reads about 180 degrees the whole time this goes on. I know the engine is not over heating so why do i get this warning and squeal?
View 4 RepliesFord 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: A/C System Works Intermittently?
So you can see from the photo my AC condensor is pretty well f'd. My AC guy at work says I prolly wont be able to straighten the fins back out. My ac in the truck works when it wants to. At idle pretty well but driving it warms up. Sometimes works great, usually when its cold out. I'm sure this mangled mess isn't working. My question is, replace just yhe condenser or so compressor and accumulator at the same time? I don't know what is actually wrong with the system and don't "want" to spend the extra $ on the other items if I dont need them. But I kinda feel like I might as well.

View 2 RepliesFord 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: 2004 - A/C Malfunction - Coolant Temp Hits 218 Then Fan Works?
I have an 04 F350 and I was wondering if the fan is supposed to be locked up when the A/C is on. In max A/C with the fan on 3 it's barely keeping cool in the 95 degree heat we have been having. If I rev the engine I don't hear the fan noise like I do when the coolant temp hits 218 and the fan roars. Freon was replaced several months ago, along with receiver/dryer and orifice tube when I did the HG's. The A/C shop drew a vacume and did not find any leaks.
View 7 RepliesFord 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: 2003 F250 - How Auxiliary Fuel Tank Works
I recently purchased a 2003 F250 Super Duty with a 6.0L Powerstroke Diesel. The truck came with an auxiliary fuel tank in the bed, but how it works. There is a keyed switch in the cab next to another regular switch, and I have not had the courage to try either of them yet since the whole thing looks like a DIY job. I did look under the truck, and can see what appears to be some sort of solenoid setup.
Just wondering, how it works and if it is safe to operate. I do not see any rollover valve, and want to make sure I do not overfill the tank if I use it.
Ford 6.7L Power Stroke Diesel :: Auto Window Button On Driver Door Works In Down Only
I have a 2012 Lariat fairly well loaded out. However, the so called "auto" window button on the drivers door works auto in down only. Just curious if something is wrong with mine because it is will not do auto for raising the window. One would think that on a truck the auto would work both ways. I know on my Expedition it works both ways. Just wondering if mine was faulty before I go to the dealer.
View 8 RepliesFord 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: 2004 - Heat Up During Idle
I have a 2004 Excursion Limited with a 6.0 PSD. Recently I have noticed my temp, I have a Scan Gauge II, slowly climbing when I am idling. On the highway it runs anywhere from 175-205 depending on time of year and load I'm pulling. Lately I have noticed it starting to climb while sitting in a parking lot at idle after coming off a steady speed run. Temp goes from about 175 up to about 205 just at idle. It is a slow creep up not a dramatic change. I have checked my coolant levels and it is full. I have made sure the front of the radiator is clear.

View 14 RepliesFord 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: Compressor Spin Even If AC Or Heat Isn't On?
Ok so I have another issue. This is one of three right now. Had the truck flat bedded home due to a seized rear caliper. Carrier bearing is causing vibration, will replace that this weekend. My question is does the ac compressor spin even if the ac or heat isn't on? Mine wasn't spinning today when the truck was idling. Should it always spin and just not be "engaged " my ect was quite high too but I thought that was due to the locked up brake.

Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: 2006 F350 - No Heat From Thermostat?
Went today to check out a buddy's truck, 06 F350 164k egr and cooler delete. He finally did his thermostat yesterday, after not having warm heat for months. Today on the way to work, had great heat for about 10 miles, then it went cold. Pulled over to check coolant, cracked cap loose, let pressure out, now had heat again. Same thing on the way home. Had the white streaks down from the cap, lost a small amount of coolant, just at min line now. He's owned this truck since 48k and no heads have never been off.
View 8 RepliesFord 6.7L Power Stroke Diesel :: Takes Long Time To Blow Heat?
I'm thinking this is probably just the way they are, but I don't understand why........... I have a '12 F250 supercab 6.7 FX4.... truck is an XL, no supplemental heat or anything. If it sits outside over night, and I go out in the morning after say a 35-40 degree night, start it up and let it run 10-15 min then drive 5 miles down the road to town, both temp gauges are still pegged on the cold side, and there's virtually no heat blowing on the defrost. Even if it sits in the heated garage over night, same temp, same drive to town in the morning, same lack of any heat.
My old 2010 V10 that I traded for the 6.7, and my current 09 5.4 are the exact opposite of this. I can start the 5.4 cold, leave within a minute or two, and be making some heat within a few minutes. By the time I get to town, everything is well in the normal range, and I'm turning the heater down cuz it's too hot. Even once the 6.7 is fully warmed up the heater doesn't seem to make near the heat that the gas trucks do. I love the 6.7, I just find this a bit odd. Am I missing something, or is this just the way they all are?
Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: 2006 F250 - Heat Up Very Quickly - CT And EOT Warnings Going Off?

My A/C also only blows out cold air if I am driving around, at an idle it just blows out warm air at me. Average summer temps at home of ~25C. What could be causing this?

Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: Bolts Holding Exhaust Heat Shroud Behind HPOP
There are two bosses on back of hpop cover that have bolts holding heat shroud for the exhaust. How difficult are these to remove? This is the it's always something post. Alternator rebuilt to 185. Batteries tested by AAA. When I went into the truck tonight the door locks made a clicking sound like the battery was going dead. Truck fired right up at 0 degrees.
I just installed WARN locking hubs and now I only have a defroster blower that works. Is there anything else besides a vacuum leak that might cause that?
6 CD Player has had problems loading and unloading for a few years but now it just says initializing and goes right back to radio.
I am really regretting doing the right thing two weeks ago and not letting this truck burn when it caught on fire on the Turnpike.
Ford 7.3L Power Stroke (1999-2003) :: Fan Clutch Go On At About 228 Degrees EOT?
What EOT temp should the fan clutch kick on at? I've never heard it kick on until a recent trip. It seems to go on about 228 degrees EOT and keeps the EOT below about 232 degrees.
At slow speeds I've found that the trans will heat up to this temp too. I assume because the radiator cooler is at that temp an there's not enough air flow for the air cooler to cool it down much?
