Elantra MD (2010-15) :: Loud Road / Tire Noise
After replacing the OEM tires at 25,000 I bought new tires at Discount Tire. Road noise seems louder. Would under coating work and is undercoating recommended by Hyundai?
View 18 RepliesElantra MD (2010-15) :: 2016 - Road Noise And Harshness Of Ride
I currently own a 2016 Elantra Limited and I'm at my wits end with the amount of road noise and harshness of the ride. I have already got rid of the Hankook tires and replaced them with Pirelli P7 Cinturato as many on this forum have suggested. I also replaced my rear shocks with KYBs. While both had a small effect on both the noise and harshness this car is still intolerable from a noise and harshness standpoint. When going over any bumps or joints in the road it seems as the suspension amplifies the bumps making them feel and sound bigger than they actually are.
It seems impossible that such a new vehicle can ride like this, but apparently it's a characteristic of the poorly designed suspension. When driving I can't believe how terrible the car is in this regard.
So replacing 17" rims with 15" or 16" makes noticeable difference? Or is this a hopeless case?
Elantra MD (2010-15) :: Road Noise - Rattle Sound On Doors?
I've noticed there's a bit more road noise in my Elantra in comparison to other competitor cars, and ever since I installed new speakers in the car with much more bass, the doors have been rattling quite a bit.
Sound deadening on the Elantra between the doors? I'm thinking of doing it but I'm not sure if there's enough space for foam or whatever would work best.
Elantra MD (2010-15) :: Intermittent Clicking / Clunking Noise
My concern is I have some intermittent clicking/clunking noise. What causes it is if I start out whether fwd or rev. Or if I am going slow in 1st gear and I let off the gas to slow down or press the gas to speed up (btw 1000rpms and 2000rpms) I was told this noise is the clutch engaging or disengaging, which doesn't make sense because when it happens the clutch is fully engaged.
I have had this noise before 2X and there were things that were loose, which were tightened up and the noise went away. This time local dealer told me sound is normal and to keep an eye on it. To me it doesn't sound right cause its noises I didn't notice before.
Elantra MD (2010-15) :: Noise Coming From Front Every Time Pass Over Speed Bump Or Road Holes
I took the car into the dealership to check an odd noise that comes from the front of the car every time I pass over speed bump or road holes.
They say I have to replace the steering rack. Can it be fixed or have to be changed anyway?
Elantra MD (2010-15) :: 2011 - Intermittent Squealing Noise While Driving
I have a 2011 Elantra with about 18,000Km on it. I'm now hearing intermittent high pitch squealing when driving below 40km/hr, seems to be coming from the right side but it's hard to tell.
It tends to go away when I apply the brakes or accelerate. I doubt it's the brake pads.
I remember some time ago while servicing the car at the dealership after the first two years, they recommend to have the brakes cleaned. I opted to not do as I thought it was a cash grab.
Elantra MD (2010-15) :: Intermittent Clunking Noise When Shifting Or Letting Off Gas
Have had some issues with some intermittent clunking when I shift or let off the gas. It only clunks when shifting from 1-2 or 2-3 or when I am btw 1500-2500 rpms and let off the gas to coast a bit. There are times when it won't clunk at all or it does it all the time, I can shift fast or slow doesn't matter. The dealership I bought the car from couldn't find anything wrong on my last service. Also when I put the clutch in sometimes I hear a bit of a clunk as well. Also I notice moving the shifter from gear to gear when shifting feels very notchy, but most of the times its smooth.
View 8 RepliesElantra MD (2010-15) :: Intermittent Grinding Noise Coming From Left Front Wheel At Low Speeds
Over the past few months I'd noticed an intermittent grinding noise coming from my left front wheel at low speeds. I took it in once but it refused to play along so I finally managed to catch it on camera and let the dealership listen to it. They booked me for today, saying it sounded like a wheel bearing (to which I agreed) and I dropped her off around ten, not expecting it to cooperate for the second time.
I got a call from the dealer around 2 PM saying that they were able to duplicate the noise and that when they took the left front wheel off and ran the car on the lift with the rest of the wheels off the ground, the noise went away. Even stranger still, when they put the wheel on the tire balancing machine and spun it, gronch, gronch...gronch, gronch....gronch, gronch. It was coming from inside the wheel! I gave them permission to dismount the tire from the wheel and about ten minutes later I got another call saying they'd found a handful of tiny hard rubber balls inside the mounted wheel/tire assembly that were rolling down the inside of the wheel and causing the grumbling at low speed.
Here's the kicker: they were in all four wheels! The tech even saved them for me so I could take a look and they don't look like anything mass-produced; some are larger than others, some are round and some are oval-shaped but when I dropped one on the glass advisor desk, it made a very clear 'Clink!'.
Elantra MD (2010-15) :: Noise And Vibration In Rainy Weather
Another issue I have had for at least a year is when driving in rain for awhile, then gently come to stop, get a noise that shouldn't be there and whole car vibrates. Noticed about a year ago when driving on interstate, raining something terrible, been going several hours and stopped for gas. The whole car shook while slowing down.
Also made a terrible noise and no it was nothing to do with ABS, nothing was locking up and it was driving at 30 mph and stopping at a very slow pace. It was not the ABS noise. Actually didn't want to press brake pedal hard as vibration and noise got worse the more you pressed. I figured pads must be wet. Eventually it stops and all was fine, figured they dried. No I didn't go through any water puddles, just interstate driving in rain for long period of time. Pads are in good shape as far as ware goes.
I just forgot about it until it happen again the other day when hardly any rain and short drive in town. Question is, never had it on other cars/truck. My truck I can take through the low water bridge and don't experience any brake issues, don't take car through low water bridge.
Elantra MD (2010-15) :: Rubbing Or Vibration Noise While Driving
I just purchased a Hyundai Elantra Limited edition car and I am hearing a noise while I am driving. I'll do my best to describe it but it is a difficult noise to decipher. I can hear the noise anytime I am driving but it is more difficult at lower speeds but the noise does increase at lower speeds when I am slowing down. But the noise persists whether or not I am pressing on the brakes so I don't think it is brake related. The noise only happens while the vehicle is in motion. It almost sound like the cross between a rubbing and grinding noise but it also has a internal encased sound. The sound is low pitched and the speed of the sound doesn't change with the speed of the vehicle. I first suspected the brakes because I heard a squealer going off. When I took it in for repair, one of the rear calipers was stuck and so I got both calipers replaced. They said the front brakes looked fine. After doing that repair, the squealer noise is obviously gone since the brakes were repaired but the other noise persists. I would suspect a wheel bearing if the owner hadn't told me it was just replaced. Plus I would have thought that the will bearing noise would change along with the speed of the car.
View 7 RepliesElantra MD (2010-15) :: 2013 - Vibration Noise In The Right Rear
I had a new trailer hitch installed on my 2013 Hyundai Elantra Coupe last month...after a couple of days I noticed a vibration noise in the right rear...I took it in to the dealer, they said they hitch didn't fit right and the vibration was caused by the hitch...they recommended I take it back to the installer (e-trailer). So I took it back to e-trailer...they looked at it and said they work with the dealers to design the specs for the hitches and there shouldn't be an issue...so they say they found a piece of styrofoam that was loose in the fascia and that was causing the vibration...so tomorrow I'm going back to the dealer to have them see if they see the same problem...so far I'm getting the old 'it's not my problem'...I really don't care whose problem it is, I just want it fixed!
View 3 RepliesElantra MD (2010-15) :: Wheel Vibration / Thumping Noise When Driving
I have a 2012 Hyundai Elantra GLS Sedan, 6 speed manual with 65,000 miles. I recently bought a new set of wheels for my car brand new. I had tires mounted and balanced. I brought them home and installed them on my car myself and had no problems, this was about 3 thousand miles ago (1 month). 2 days ago I went down for my first oil change and tire rotation since getting the new wheels. The technician who I trusted suggested I balance the two rear wheels when bringing them to the front, so I went ahead and let them do that.
When I left the shop I noticed the front left wheel had a "thumping" sound when driving, as if there was a large nail hitting the ground every time the wheel went around. You can feel this in the floor. I just went back today to the shop to have them look at it and they too can feel it when driving. They put my car on the lift and while in gear they said they noticed the left front CV joint turning but it was not straight. It wobbled a bit. They showed me the play in it when pushing it up and down and said that it was not normal.
They were not trying to get me to replace them, the mechanics actually suggested I went to the Hyundai dealer to have it looked at. I'm replacing my front brakes tonight and I will be rotating that tire to the rear again to see what happens. I'm just curious as whether the play we noticed in the CV joint is normal, if they could have screwed up the tire balance somehow (which they did not recheck) or if the CV wobble could possibly be normal. I'll be switching that tire to the back and if the vibration is in the rear it will be going back down to Monro muffler and brake. If the problem remains in the front I will be visiting the Hyundai dealer.
Elantra MD (2010-15) :: Engine Vibration And Noise When Accelerating At Around 2500 - 3000 RPMs
I recently purchased a 2013 elantra.
I have noticed that there is engine vibration and noise felt in car and pedal when accelerating at around 2500-3000 rpm's before it shifts. Is this normal behavior? It just does not seem as smooth as it should be. I have only put about 600 miles on the car.
It has been very cold, but it does not go away after warming up.
Lexus RX 2010-15 :: 2012 RX350 - Road Noise Transmitted Back Into Cabin When Driving On Rough Road Surface
My 2012 RX350 now for over a year and like it a lot.........BUT.
There's seems to be a lot "road noise" that's transmitted back into the cabin, like driving over expansion joints on blacktop or rough road surface, is this normal?
I drove a 2000 RX300 for 100,000 miles and don't remember it being this noisy. Interior noise is great and quiet.
Prius (Gen 3) :: 2010 - Road Vibration Over Left Foot?
Just bought a 2010 Prius V and am noticing a ton of road vibration in my left foot transmitted through the floor. Is this normal? Poor dampening?
View 2 RepliesPrius (2010-12) :: Subtle Vibration Like Buzzing - Excessive Road Feel
Bought a brand new 2012 Prius in California - Power Toyota in Irvine. It was heavily raining so did not test drive. Package 3. Next day noticed that there was excessive road feel and buzzing like vibration.
Took the car in and they noticed it too. Changed Goodyears to Yokohoma, checked suspension and tire pressure. Issue did not go away. It is subtle but constant.
Dealership said there is nothing wrong with the car and every car drives differently. Offered to change car with me taking a hit of 5000 dollars.
It is like driving on a stone like rough surface with a buzz like vibration.
Elantra XD (2001-06) :: Intermittent Missing At Idle
I have a 2003 Elantra GLS that has two issues that may be related. The first one the engine will shut off for no apparent reason. Doesn't matter how fast, or if the a/c is on or not. I used to be able to start it right up after I pulled over, now I have to wait about 15 seconds. Starts up fine and runs like nothing happened. There is no particular time frame when it will shut down. Maybe once a month, then happen twice in a week.
Second issue is when I have to stop at a red light and have the a/c on, it seems to have an intermittent miss, meaning after it does miss it idles fine for a while and then misses again. It seems like a miss to me, feels like the car almost shuts down but catches itself and will idle fine until next miss. If I turn off the a/c I do not feel it miss. If I have the a/c on and put it into neutral, it does not appear to miss near as much.
The check engine light has come on twice for a day or so and then goes out. Car runs fine when it does. Below is what I have done since I purchased the car used at 104,000 miles. current mileage - 117,000
* changed timing belt, transmission fluid, brake fluid, changed oil at 104,000 miles when bought.
* installed new radiator recently
* installed crankshaft sensor (due to error code when checked)
Other than that, car runs great, accelerates good, idles good
Lexus GX 2004-09 :: 2008 GX470 - Intermittent Rumbling Noise As Drive Down The Road
New to my 2008 GX470. 100k miles. Love it so far. However I think I am hearing a intermittent rumbling as I drive down the road. It is like the rumble from a radio base sound. It could be normal road noise but I bet it is not.
I have replaced the left front axle (grease boot broken), replaced the rotors and pads, replaced all differential and transfer case fluids (not transmission yet) and inspected all the suspension parts.
Elantra MD (2010-15) :: Road Vibrations In Pedal / Floor
Is it normal to experience road vibrations in the pedal and floor? I've owned my car for about a month now (it's a used 2011) and it has brand new tires on it, but the past week or two it seems these road vibrations have worsened.. it's like I can feel the texture of the road on my feet. If I reach a freshly paved area it goes away like magic.
Is this indicative of a problem that I could have the dealer investigate? Or is this a "characteristic" of this car? I came from a 97 Corolla, with the exact same tires on it, and it did not have this problem at all. Then again, it was also much much quieter going over bumps too...
