Elantra XD (2001-06) :: Engine Light While Driving And 2nd Gear Taking Time Shifting - Thump On Transmission
O.K. first of all I had an issue with the Odometer pointer being jumpy. Sometimes it wouldn't move. Now I replaced the input sensor at first and did not fix the problem. I replaced the output sensor and fixed it. "BUT", Now, I have a problem with the transmission shifting. I get an engine light while driving and the 2nd gear seems to take its time shifting and when it does it make the left side drive shaft kick in hard and spends my wheel to a screeching effect. Plus a thump on the transmission. I rechecked the sensor for connection and reinstalled. Drove the car still have the same issue?
View 2 RepliesElantra XD (2001-06) :: Manual Transmission - Thump When Shifting
I've been hearing a quiet 'thump' when shifting. In particular, when first letting up the clutch starting out in 1 but also when shifting between gears when the clutch is fully down such as from 2->3.
I thought perhaps a fluid change was in order since I'm at 110,000 miles. It didn't make any difference. (I used Mobil 1 GL5 which according to independent tests is safe on yellow metals.)
So then I wondered if it's the engine mounts, but I'm not sure what it sounds like when they need to be replaced or if simply shifting between gears while driving as described above would cause a worn one to 'thump'.
Passat (B6) :: Transmission Bang / Thump When Coming Off The Highway Or Taking Off At A Stop
I am having a very intermittent thump/bang/slip in my front end when coming off the highway or taking off at a stop. Believe it or not this is when i drive the car perfectly normal and don't stomp on it which I haven't done much with this car.
I was under the car the other day and noticed neither the dogbone mount bolts looked to have been replaced and i saw the back subframe bolts look to be moving around due to rubbing marks on the subframe.
Car has been in three times to seacoast volkswagen this last time the tech drove with me and they wont do anything because they cant replicate the problem.
I noticed its between 4 to 3rd down shift and 1st to 2nd up shift that it happens so far. It is LOUD and extremely noticeable and feels almost like a slip and heavy bang.
Elantra MD (2010-15) :: 2013 - Transmission Failure / Shifting Very Rough Through Most Of Gears
Well something I never thought would happen with only 14,313 babied miles on my 2013 silver Elantra. I was driving home from my mothers house and I thought I hit a pothole, next I stopped at a stop sign took off and it started shifting very rough through most of the gears. I drove it around for 30 minutes and it was pretty bad. I decided to get it towed, I don't feel like breaking down in it.

Prius (Gen 2) :: Clunk Or Thump Noise When Shifting From D And R?
I've just bought a 2005 Prius, 142k miles. It's a great car, and frankly with any 'new' car I buy I always worry about new sounds. This time it's 'clunk' or 'thump' noise when shifting from D to R and vice versa. It doesn't happen all the time, but it's a noticeable noise that can be felt as well.

2014 GT ... I'm hearing some type of noise whenever I reach an incline, accelerate or turn the car occasionally. To get a mental picture, I would imagine it sounding like a loose screw rolling to and fro inside the rear drivers side door or backseat. I've looked inside the car and don't see anything.

My 2013 Elantra won't shift out of park. I know that I should check fuses, but what fuses might be associated with this. (The brake lights are not affected).
View 2 RepliesElantra XD (2001-06) :: Brakes Making A Grinding Noise And Thump Sound Coming From Passenger Side Front
So, last week I got my transmission replaced and they also had to replace the CV axle because it was damaged beyond repair when the Transmission self-distructed. They drove it after all the repairs and said it was driving fine, just that it had a belt squeak.
On my way home (30 min drive) about 10 minutes in, still in the city, my brakes start making a grinding noise and sort of a thump thump thump when I brake which sounds like its coming from the passenger side front, it makes me really nervous. It doesn't sound like any brake grindy noise Ive ever heard before and it wasn't making any brake noises before it broke down. (On a side note: it also made a weird noise maybe the first 3 times I drove it after getting it back and I turned the wheel hard to back out of a parking space, that used to be when I heard the belt squeak but I haven't made it squeak since I got the car back.)
Everyone I talked to said it sounded like it needed new pads so tonight I bought new brake pads and rotors for the front and got everything taken apart. The rotors didn't look bad at all, just some light surface scratches, nothing deep, no warping I could see, and the brake pads look almost brand new. I did notice that the inside brake pad on the passenger side was missing its little metal plate that is usually between the caliper and the pad, so I went ahead and replaced all of the brake pads hoping this lost metal plate was the issue.
I also turned the rotor by hand on each side while the brake pads were off and the only difference I could notice was when turning the passenger side one it made a little more noise almost like it was loose.
I got everything put back together and drove around the neighborhood with my boyfriend in the car to listen, the grinding noise was gone and it seemed to brake really well (never got above 30 mph.) However, on my way to return the rotors to advanced auto (45-50 mph) it started making the thump thump thump noise but without the grinding, still on the passenger side. I can feel it in the gas pedal and now it not only happens when I'm braking, but also any time I let my foot off the gas pedal. The only time I dont feel/hear it is when I'm accelerating.
Elantra GD (2013+) :: Weird Movement When Shifting Into 3rd Gear
I recently bought my GL less than a week ago with under 10km on it. Its been great so far but I noticed a weird movement when shifting into 3rd gear (both up and downshifting). It started happening about 2 days into driving the car.
As I shift into third gear I feel a little kickback against the forward motion. It doesn't happen all the time and it doesn't seem to be dependent on the car speed or the speed of my actual shifting. Although it happens a lot more when I shift quickly into third.
I've been told that 3rd and 5th gears are the longest and I might just need to get something adjusted at the dealership.
This kickback doesn't happen on any other gear except third (MAYBE I felt it a little on 5th but I may have been searching for it after being told about 3rd and 5th gear being long).
Ford F-150 (2009-2014) :: 2013 - Humming Noise When Taking Off At Light Acceleration Going Through The Gears
Trans Noise At least I think it’s coming for the trans. Ok here it goes. When I’m just taking off at light acceleration going through the gears I hear what I call a humming noise. It starts off low and as you increase rpms to the shift point it get louder and then start over again. It does this in most of the lower gears, at least what I can hear. As you get going faster there is more wind and tire noise, so I can’t hear it as well. I have heard it at higher speed but conditions have to be right. I found a YouTube vid that someone posted. It has the same noise I’m talking about, he did a great job recorded it. I tried but didn’t have any luck. Anyway he took it to the dealer and they say it was a the separator plate. His is fixed. I did hear that there is a TSB on the Trans for the separator plate but not sure if it is for the same problem I’m having.

Elantra GD (2013+) :: Poor Shifting - Car Hesitates Then Surges Forward
I've been having an issue with my Elantra GT where the car appears to be shifting poorly. The issue is very intermittent and usually only occurs just after starting to drive for about 4 to 5 minutes. But it never occurs consistently during every time I start driving the car. It is an Auto transmission but it feels as if a poor downshift is being back (car hesitates, then surges forward). From my research the transmission in the GT appears to be fairly reliable.
Background
2013 Elantra GT
KMs: 98500 km (high mileage commuter to work and back)
Note: Installed K&N Typhoon around 95,000 km, issue persisted before and after.
Initially started to feel the issue around 80,000 km. At this point I took it to the dealer and had the transmission flushed. The issue went away until about the 87,000 to 90,000 km mark and then started to return. Went back to the dealer and they said they performed an updated and couldn't replicate the issue during test drives. Currently my car is at 98,500 and this morning when driving to work the issue was particularly severe and the check engine light came on.
Tiguan :: Heavy Clunking Noise From Right Side While Taking A Right Turn
I'm having an issue I cant seam to track down. I am getting a bad clunking sound from the right side while taking a right turn. I was thinking it was an axle because it was flopping around when I took it out to inspect it. So I replaced that and also the ball joint because it was ripped. Took the car for a test drive and still getting this banging sound. I went back and checked the suspension bolts, tie rod, and cant seam to find my issue. I know bad wheel bearings make more of a howl but could they also make a bad clicking sound? or do you think the issue is worse than I was thinking and might be the diff?
View 1 RepliesElantra XD (2001-06) :: Transmission Shifting On Its Own When Drive Around 25 - 40 Mph
I have read the common problems and went ahead and replaced the Throttle Position Sensor, TPS. Also had a complete tranny flush done. The shifting problem persists, when I drive around 25-40 mph, the car will constantly upshift or downshift on its own even. Sorta like I get to 30 mph and it suddenly decides to downshift, like it has become ultra sensitive to minor increases in torgue(?) or can't decide if it wants to be in 3rd or 4th gear. Did check with Jiffy Lube to make sure they replaced it with SP3 fluid and they did. What else this might be? Check engine light comes on now and then and currently is off.
View 1 RepliesTiguan :: Faint Clunking Noise When Taking A Right Turn At A Stop Sign
I have had my Tiguan about a month ago and it has started getting cold. I noticed that when taking a right turn at a stop sign, there is a very faint clicking noise (sounds like it is coming from the front left wheel). On my way home today, I turned right at a yield and the road was a little bumpy. When turning right, I heard a clunking noise coming from the same area. It does not always make this noise. The car is under warranty, but I am afraid if I take it to the dealership, they will just tell me they couldn't find anything.
View 4 RepliesSanta Fe (DM - 2013+) :: Drop Down In Transmission Shifting After Start Up
When the temperature drops below -20 Celsius, I find the transmission shifts weird just after start up. It seems like it goes into second, then third normally, then abruptly drops back into second. I'm pushing very lightly on the gas pedal, so the drop down is weird. A couple times the nav was blank on start up.
View 8 RepliesFord Transmission :: 1996 F150 - Rattling Noise As The Clutch Engages When Taking Off In First
1996 F150 4x4 with 300/6 and M5OD mazda tranny. 145k miles on it and looking really clean, and just the truck we wanted. It used to be well cared for, but has been a bit neglected since the owner passed away.
I spent a few hours searching the forums here and didn't find anything matching my symptoms exactly so I thought I would just jump in a post, but if I missed a thread feel free to redirect me.
I've got a bit of a rattling noise as the clutch engages when taking off in first. Once the clutch is fully engaged it's quiet and it shifts well and smooth. Noise also occurs (but less so) if I don't match RPM's and ride the clutch into second or third. I don't think its engine noise from lugging or anything because it goes away as soon as the clutch is fully engaged or disengaged.
Changed the trans fluid last night and no different, Clutch fluid reservoir is full, clutch travel feels good, master cylinder looks good, (slave is hidden, but looks dry though dust cover) a little play in the white bushing that holds the clutch pedal bar in place, and the plastic pushrod that goes into the firewall, thinking about replacing this linkage.
I work on big diesels for a living so i'm not scared of getting greasy. I'm almost inclined to think someone did a clutch job without resurfacing the flywheel. Is there an improved replacement for the pedal bracket and linkage? I don't mind just doing the clutch, but I don't want to be throwing my money away.
Elantra XD (2001-06) :: Automatic Transmission Shifting Erratically
i have a 2001 elantra with 136k. the automatic transmission (which otherwise shifts very smoothly and shows no sign of problems) shifts suddenly and erratically when i'm driving at a constant speed. I'll be traveling along (speed doesn't matter), and it will suddenly downshift, then upshift, then downshift, etc. this started off being very occasional, but now it randomly shifts every 5-10 seconds.
I've changed and checked the fluid, and tried replacing the Input Speed Sensor and the Output Speed sensor...that didn't fix it. it also does not blow a check engine code. I'm convinced there must be a sensor somewhere that is faulty. it really seems as though the transmission is electronically confused.
Elantra HD (2006-10) :: Automatic Transmission Shifting Rough
I have an automatic 2010 Elantra Touring and I drive 115 miles a day (4 days a week) with it (currently have 38K miles). Part of the drive goes up over an 1100 foot foothill, so I change elevation of about 800 feet on the drive. Over the last two weeks, I have noticed the transmission shifting a little rougher and at higher RPMs (everywhere and not just going up the hill). The transmission fluid level looks good, but I am wondering if I need to change the fluid and filter? Or is there something else I need to look at? I need this car to last another three years and want to make sure I take care of it right. Currently every 3500 miles I change the oil and rotate the tires, but I am just not sure about the transmission.
