Ford Ranger / B-Series :: 2006 - Low Humming Sound And Brake Pedal Momentarily Drop Back Just Slightly When Going Downhill
I recently bought a 2006 Ranger with supposedly 110000 miles... I don't think I made a good deal... because I found the stabilizer end link in terrible shape which seems suspicious for this mileage in my personal opinion!? But this isn't the reason I am posting today... I have a serious breaking issue and I couldn't find explanation yet.
My ABS Light is on. When I slowly brake at low speed and when the brake is almost completely depressed... I hear a low humming sound, and the brake pedal seems to momentarily drop back just slightly. This also happens when I'm going down hill and breaking. For the most part, the car breaks, and it's only every 8th or 10th time braking that I experience this issue.
My guess is this is linked to the ABS... but I can't afford expensive service and need to resolve this on my own.
Toyota - Camry :: Brake Pedal Is Softer Than Before So Have To Push Harder To Get Car Stopped
I have a Camry at 120K now. Front brake pads was placed at 85K and was told by the maintenance person at that time that brake rotors couldn't be resurfaced since they were close to the minimum thickness.
Braking seems still fine these days. I don't hear any high-pitched noise or feel obvious vibration/pulsation when the brake is applied. The brake pads are still within a good range of thickness as the last check was made a couple of months ago.
But the brake pedal is softer than before so that now I have push harder to get car stopped. It that a warning sign which indicates it is time to replace the brakes rotors and pads?
Prius (2004-09) :: Brake Pedal Seemed To Push Back On Foot - Warning Lights
I drove my 2005 Prius 2 hours and parked it for 5 hours. No problems on the trip down. I got back in it and it started up just fine. I was sitting in the parking lot with my foot on the brake (hadn't moved yet) and the following occurred:
The brake pedal seemed to push back on my foot
The red exclamation point illuminated
The yellow exclamation point illuminated
The ABS light illuminated
The VSC light illuminated
The red parking brake light illuminated (not shown)
All of these lights point to the skid ECU. It seems like my skid ECU is toast or something called the ABS & BA & TRAC & VSC Actuator is an issue (never heard of it but I see it connected to the skid ECU). I did a visual check of what I could and everything seemed in order. I pulled a bunch of fuses and I didn't notice any that were blown. (I didn't pull them all but will tomorrow)
After not finding anything, I drove back home. As expected, I had no regen but the bigger problem was that I had no power assist on the brakes. A few times I actually did skid and the car brakes really bad without regen or power assist. If it was raining or snowing I could definitely see a hazardous situation.
I'm kind of at a loss here. Tomorrow I'll pull the kick panel down and see if the skid ECU is getting power but I can't think of anything else that would cause this situation.

View 4 RepliesElantra MD (2010-15) :: Brake Pedal Hard To Push Down Before Starting Car
I have the limited with the push start. In order to start the car, you have to push the brake in so far and then push the push button. Lately the brake pedal is really hard to push down after its been sitting for an extended period. Once its started, all is fine. Its almost like I've pumped it a few times first, but its not the case.
View 11 RepliesPrius (Gen 1) :: 2002 Brake Pedal Little Harder To Push - Lubricating Lever?
Recently the brake pedal on my 2002 Prius has been a little harder to push for the first mm of travel it almost "sticks" requiring slightly more effort once it moves past that point it is normal no fading or extra effort required this problem has now progressed to the point where the pedal is kind of crunchy for the first 5mm of travel and occasionally will not return right away causing the brakes to drag a little but again pressure required to stop is exactly the same no fading etc
I am thinking since I live on 2 miles of dusty washboard dirt road and some grit has worked its way into the bushing .
Silverado :: 2000 - Brake Pedal Spongy And Has Very Little Pressure
I have a 2000 Silverado 1500 replaced calipers, master cylinder, and ABS Pump/Modulator. Bled all four calipers. Brake pedal spongy and has very little pressure and travels all the way to the floor. What am I missing here?

I have a 2010 Prius Hybrid and lately, on an intermittent basis, I will press the brake pedal and push the start button and the dashboard lights up as normal but when I go to put it in gear nothing happens. The last time it happened the fan was running and I couldn't turn it off. It's like the car is all set to go but all the interior controls don't function. I then shut it off and restart it and everything works.
View 1 RepliesTouareg :: Whooshing Sound When Push Brake Pedal To Move Gear Selector Out Of Park
Last night I jumped into my Treg to move it into my garage. When I pushed the brake pedal to move the gear selector out of park, I heard a whooshing sound. Like the sound of a bellows-type foot pump I use to inflate my dinghy. I could also feel a slight amount of movement in the transmission lock button on the top left side of the shifter when doing this.
Now I'm noticing this noise whenever I apply the brakes. It doesn't appear to affect braking performance, but does have me wondering. I'll have the dealer check this out when I take the Treg in for the recent recall (got my notice yesterday).
Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: Dead Space Area When Push The Brake Pedal Forward
My question is this...when my foot makes contact with the brake pedal there is about a quarter or half inch of "space" where I can push the pedal forward before you can feel whatever the pedal pushes against make contact and begin applying braking.
This dead space area will always activate the brake lighting but until you reach that next part under the dash somewhere no braking occurs.
I am quite used to driving my 2010 and this doesn't occur....can not remember if the 99 has always done that and i just realized it or if this is a new issue.
Brakes and stops great with and without load. No issues otherwise. Pedal pops out quickly and normally when taking your foot off.
Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: 2001 F350 - Parking Brake Pedal Is Extremely Hard To Push
I have a 2001 F-350 Diesel 4x4 crew cab 8ft bed dually 7.3 diesel 6 speed. The issue is that the parking brake pedal is extremely hard to push. One day it pushed down and ratcheted into a locked position as normal and the next day I couldn't push it more than an inch down. I have rear disc brakes with internal drums in the rotors for the parking brake assembly. I replaced the shoes and hardware (which were fine) and I still have the same issue. I removed the front single cable from where it splits into the two rear ones and the foot pedal depresses smoothly and with the touch of a finger with no load on it. What else is it? The only other thing is one of the rear cables unless I am missing something?

View 12 RepliesChevrolet - Silverado :: 2000 - Broken Emergency Brake Cable?
I broke my emergency brake cable on my 2000 chevy silverado. It broke before the cable splits to two wires to go to the two rear tires. I would like to know if this is something I can handle myself. My biggest question is how I get access where the wire attaches to the pedal itself.
View 2 RepliesChevrolet - Silverado :: 1995 - Driver Side Tail Light Turns Off When Hit The Brake And Headlight On
I have a 1995 Chevy k1500 Silverado Z71, I am having problems with my tail lights where when my headlights are on and I hit the breaks the driver side tail light completely turns off, if I use the left blinker it blinks very fast up till I hit the breaks. When my headlights are off they still don't work properly but legal enough, the left blinker blinks in between fast and slow and when I use the brakes the left side works but very dim, the wiring is all original never tampered with, all I did was put aftermarket tail light covers on it which shouldn't affect anything. The problem usually comes and goes but this last time it lasted for 2 months and now everything works perfect, the problem will be back and I'm afraid I'll run out of luck and a cop will finally notice it.
View 5 RepliesAccent MC (2006-11) :: Pulsating Brakes / Grab Momentarily When Stopped
I started noticing that the brakes would pulsate, or grab momentarily when almost stopped. I figured that the rotors might be warped, and as I was planning on putting on new green stuff pads and rotors I was waiting for a convenient time to change them.
Now I have noticed some type of fluid, I'm guessing grease, on the side of one spoke of one of the wheels. I recently replaced the steel wheels with SE 16" wheels. I didn't see any leaks then but I guess I wasn't looking like I should have been.
I'm trying to decide what I should be looking for. CV boot leak? Front wheel bearing seal? Brake fluid?
99 Blazer With ABS Brake Pedal Just Went To The Floor And Car Stopped Eventually
I have a 99 Blazer 4x4 with ABS. Brake pedal just went to the floor and car stopped eventually ... a bit scary. I've checked all the brake lines and the inside of all wheels and there is no sign of fluid anywhere. All pistons seem to be where they need to be with backing plates nicely visible.
I pumped the brakes quite a few times and same result ... but I'm not pumping fluid on the ground. As expected I've also checked the reservoir and its full. Didn't see any leaks so its full. I'm guessing that the master cylinder has given up the ghost ... truck has 470,000km so things wear out.
Accent MC (2006-11) :: Pulsating Brake Pedal When Stopped Only
I'm getting this checked today most likely as it's been happening for months now. No issues with vibration and stopping is fine. As a matter of fact brakes are excellent. However when I'm stopped at a light or whatnot and I depress the brake pedal there's a pulsation that occurs almost every time. It's fairly constant and only happens when I'm at a stop not when I'm stopping so I know it's not a warped rotor. What it might be?

Purchased a used 2010 Gen III a few months ago and have noticed a fast buzz, felt through the floor and brake pedal. It is intermittent but the conditions needed are:
1) Air conditioning running at high speed
2) Vehicle in Drive
3) Immediately approaching a stop, and a few seconds after stopping.
Prius (Gen 2) :: No Resistance In The Pedal - Brake Turned To Back Out
I was waiting for my son to come out of his work for an hour with the car on. I got distracted reading and messing around on my phone, and since the heater and lights were off, I had no incentive to turn the car off since it was perfectly quiet (the gas motor only kicked on once to keep the battery charged). Then, I can't remember if I turned the car off or left it on while I took a nap for an hour (he was a total of two hours late getting out of work).
At any rate, when he finally came out, I don't remember if I needed to turn the car on, but I do remember that as I pushed the brake down, put it in reverse, and began to back out, I was moving kind of fast and pushing the brake down didn't slow my motion at all. Also, it felt like there was not much resistance in the pedal. I stood on the brake and there was a noise and a jolt as I came to a stop. I really thought I had stopped because I hit something, that's how violent the stop was. But my son walked around the car and found I had not. No dash warning lights came on. I pushed the park button, powered the car off and on, then put it in drive and coasted forward / carefully tested the brakes. All was good.
I put it in reverse and used the brakes without anything seeming out of the ordinary. Then we drove 16 miles home with no issues. Until this incident I have never had a single brake-related issue apart from grabby brakes when it is raining.
This is what I have learned:
When I stood on the brakes, that is the only time the hydraulic system was in play.
Rusty brake components are pretty grabby.
Actuators are expensive and no service center wants to replace them at 92K miles.
