Phaeton :: 2004 Purr Sound Like Engine Sound
We just purchased a 2004 Phaeton V8 last weekend. We are trying to decide if this sound that we are hearing is because something is wrong, or whether that is just the way they sound. It sounds almost like a purr, like engine noise. However, it is related to how fast you are traveling, not to whether the accelerator is being pressed. The absolute best way to describe it - its like there is a playing card in the wheel spokes (but muted)!!! Its not bothersome or loud, but just odd.

I am having problems with my 94 Caprice. It will start right up when cold. After driving for awhile (not too long) then engine cuts off. Electric power is on but the engine is off (like it ran out of gas, or the gas was shut off). At first, it would take a few minutes for the engine to restart. Now that I have replaced the Fuel Pump Relay, it will start right back up, but when driving it still cuts off.
Could it be the ECM? Where is it located? Is it a "do-it-yourself" job?
What other problems might it be (besides the fuel pump)? Could it be the power distribution box under the hood? I also have fog lamps hooked up to the panel that wont work. The switch light comes on but the lamps do not. I am going to try to hook the (+) up to the battery and see if the lamps get power, if so, the box is fried (or the stud) But if the main power distribution wasnt working would the car still run, start? If the stud is damaged would it cause the gas to shut off?
Caprice :: 1985 Classic V8 Won't Start At All When Engine Is Cold
I just got a 1985 Caprice Classic, V8 305. I sometimes have trouble starting it when the engine is cold. When I received the car from a family member, he gave me some spray for the carburetor. This does the trick, but I would like to fix it so that I do not have to resort to this.
The visor has some instructions for starting the engine. The directions say to depress the gas pedal once before trying to start, and 2x when it is very cold outside. I'm concerned that the car won't start at all when the winter comes.. Where should I start to troubleshoot this issue?
Caprice :: New Suspension Making Clicking Noise When Apply The Brake
I recently did all new suspension on my caprice...new springs all around...new shocks all around....all new ball joints and all the tie rods brand new too and new sway bar... after installing everything i took the car to the shop and they did alignment and said they checked everything out and said i was good to go. The reason i did all new suspension in the first place was because a noise i was getting which i believed to be a bad ball joint so i just went ahead and did everything since i had to pull the control arms and what not. after everything is said and done the car is still making the same noise....its like a clicking noise which only happens when i apply the brake and the car lurches forward it sounds like a popping like something isn't tight and the car is moving forward on the frame or something....it doesn't happen in reverse and happens at all speeds sometimes one click sometimes 3 consecutive...

Pretty sure the a/c clutch on my LT1 is going - making lots of noise when working and also when not.
I've heard on some forums that this could be a bearing? Is it advisable for me to replace the entire clutch or just this bearing?
Either way, I assume I'll have to pull the clutch for which I think I'll need two special tools:
(1) clutch holder tool to break nut loose.
(2) pulley puller.
Caprice :: Engine Temp Indicator Shows Overheat To Red Line
My engine temp indicator shows overheat to the red line, however when I stop the car I can put my hand on the radiator cap and leave it there. No signs of any leaks anywhere. The top radiator hose on the drivers side is hot. Engine runs fine. Oil on dipstick clean. I can't find anything to back up my temp indication. What else I can look for? 1987 chev caprice classic brougm ls 5.o liter.

When start my Caprice (1986) carb-- I used to step on the gas pedal (half step is more than enough) to start the car.
Once the car started it's idling normally, but suddenly after 3 or 4 minute the sound of engine go high idling as if I stepped on the gas and that is remaining for long time even if I step full gas, and if I turnoff the the engine and pull out the key, the car will remain working hardly and shaking like crazy before it completely stop.
What is the problem with my 86 Caprice Brougham? is that problem easy to fix?

I have a 1996 chevy caprice wit a 4.3 v-8 one day i was driving and the car started acting funny and the check engine lite started blinking i had the codes read and 0p300 came up saying multiple misfire so I changed the plug wires they all connect in the front around the harmonic balancer well that didn't work its still saying multi misfire so I took a spark plug wire off of the electric dis block and no change in motor now I don't know what to do...

I just bought a 2013 Golf R and have been driving around with some kind of road noise since the day I got it. The sound occurs when coasting only, and is most audible above 55mph. It is best described as a mid-high-pitched hum or drone, kind of like a much quieter semi (when you drive next to them on the highway).
I took the car in to a VW dealer and they were able to hear the sound on a test drive but were unable to diagnose the source. They rotated tires, checked all bearings/hubs, and eventually called VW to find out that it is a "characteristic of the vehicle" and that VW is aware of it and nothing more.
Aside form the noise there are absolutely no issues with the car and it only has about 8k miles on it...
Golf VI R :: High Pitched Noise While Coasting To A Stop
I'm stuck in a bad situation. With my work schedule it will be literally a month until I have time to look at my car during daylight. I may be able to drop it off next week.
Anyhow, the R is making a horrendous high pitched noise while coasting to a stop. This starts at just under 30 mph and is most pronounced in neutral. Accelerating in gear stops it. It is loud inside and louder outside and there is some rough "clanking" associated with it. My guess is a belt or bearing. It is coming from the front passenger side.
Prius (2010-12) :: Rubbing Noise When Coasting Particularly At Low Speeds
I just had an oil change done on our 2010. Also of note, I've just switched the winter tires over to summer tires - done myself. So here's the issue. When coasting, particularly at low speeds, a rubbing noise can be heard issuing from the front right somewhere. The noise goes as the rpms go and seems to go away when either braking or accelerating. I'm not sure if it's present at high speeds due to road noise which would overwhelm it.

Santa fe developed a noise underneath that rattles up to the gear shift. It happens mostly when you take your foot off the gas but can happen if your just cruising. Engine does not make any noise while revving it or under load in drive with foot on brake. Definitely sounds rotational but all looks ok underneath.

I have a 2000 Volvo V70 XC wagon AWD. I just purchased this car in January and it needed a lot of love and care. Here's my car question: I have a rattling noise that started about a week ago. Just this morning (on my way to the mechanic ironically/luckily) the rattling became very loud and apparent. The noise sounds something like a piece of metal rattling around in an empty coffee can. The noise seemed to go away when I was accelerating, get louder when coasting, and then slowed down in frequency (not volume) as the speed of my car slowed down.
My mechanic also isn't sure what's wrong. He has had himself and 2 other mechanics look at, in addition to hooking it up to machines and making phone calls to Volvo. He says the noise is unmistakably coming from my drive-shaft and that it sounds like it is traveling from one end of the drive shaft to the other. He also said it's odd because the place that the noise is coming from is just a shaft and shouldn't be making any noise?
Golf/GTI VI :: 2010 - Buzz Noise When Coasting Downhill?
This is on a 2010 GTI with 20K km.
I've noticed a buzzing noise coming from the front of the car whenever I coast downhill. Almost sounds like an off-tune radio. Noise gets louder as the car picks up speed, and becomes quieter as I brake. What can it be? I think I was in 3rd gear.
Golf VI R :: Slight Whirling Noise When Coasting In Gear
So today I got to 800+ miles and when I'm coasting in gear... When I get it to the point (by the gas pedal) where the transmission is not loaded so you can slide out of gear...(you guys that understand power shifting know what I am talking about...) I hear a whirling noise.... Whoo-Whoo-Whoo- etc...I hear it sounds near the clutch (guesstimating since its near the front/dashboard)
I would have to drive it another 500 or so miles to get home. No mods, started trip with about 300 miles... Did not use cruise control.. Varied speed around 60-90 mph to keep the rpms moving since there isn't a lot of mileage here... Idk what else to say... This is really bugging me... Never launched the car... And I did search, only results I got was from other parts of the forums saying wheel bearing...
Prius (2004-09) :: Humming Sound When Car Is Coasting With Gas Engine Off
My 2008 Prius had a front quarter panel replaced after my wife back in to a fire hydrant.The body work looks fine , no issue there, but now when the car is coasting with the gas engine off you can hear a humming sound that was not there before the repair.Also it does,nt seem to be recharging the hybrid battery at the same rate.My thought is maybe the body shop caused some damage to MG1 by spinning the front tires on a emision testing machine or rollers.Does special precautions would have to be used when testing wheel clearances after a quarter panel replacement on a hybrid? Would a body shop need to do this ?

My 2004 Santa Fe 2.4L manual transmission with 200,000km on it has this hard to explain noise when in gear and coasting. This is when my foot it off the gas and say I'm going down a slight incline. There is a pulsating humming noise, worse in the lower gears that coincides with the engine holding the car back. This only seems to happen during coasting and not when down gearing to slow down. And even when coasting if I press even ever so slightly on the gas so the engine is not holding the vehicle back, it goes away.
The clutch has never been replaced and I'm somewhat assuming it may be the clutch becoming worn.
Touareg :: Gear Lash Noise From Drive Train When Coasting
I have a V6. Very happy with it...no real problems, but I do notice a fair amount of drive train gear lash noise when the vehicle is coasting and the windows are open. Is this normal? It not like it sounds really bad and hasn't gotten worse in the 2500 miles since I have my Treg...but I would like to know if it is normal.
