Camry 2012+ :: Clunking Noise And Car Shudders Going From Neutral To Reverse
I've noticed something weird with my 14.5. Over the last two days it's making a clunking noise and the car shudders going from neutral to reverse. I never noticed it before on this car and certainly not on my 2012. I'm not on a hill, revving it, or anything, foot is firmly on the brake. I first noticed it going from drive to park, felt it, and was able to repeat it sitting there by going from neutral to reverse.
The other oddity I noticed is the car sometimes rocks forward once I put it in park and took my foot off the brake, even with the parking brake on, but it doesn't do that all the time either, grade doesn't matter. The parking brake works fine, it holds the car in place in neutral on a slight incline, and I felt it when I backed the car up with the brake on a month ago.
Didn't think to mention this at my appointment the other day but now that it's acting odd going from N to R I'm wondering if I should have. This transmission seems to shift better though overall then my last one (little smoother, quicker) so I'm hesitant to have them start messing with fluid levels or anything.
Camry 2012+ :: 2016 LE - Transmission Clunking Noise When Shift Into Reverse With Foot On Brake
I bought a brand new 2016 Camry LE. Sometimes when car sits for a while, and I shift from P to R, there is a clunking noise with foot on the brake. I tried with the parking break engage and it still does it.
View 4 RepliesCamry :: 2009 - Clunking Sound When Turning Steering Wheel
So my 09' Camry now has 130K KMs on it and for the last few months I've had an issue where when I turn the steering wheel (at rest and while moving) there is a clunking sound and feel in the steering wheel at various spots in the steering wheel rotation.
I'm worried the u-joints (if it uses them) in the steering column are worn out and might need replacing/lubricating but I'm not sure how to address the issue without an expensive Out of warranty visit to the dealer.
Toyota - Camry :: Clunking Noise When Steering Is Hard Over To The Right - CV Joint
The '04 Camry with 72K miles is making a little of the clunking noise when the steering is hard-over to the right (have not tested left yet). My education on this site says it's the CV joint. So, how urgent is it to get this fixed? The car is getting used probably less than 8K miles/year.
View 4 RepliesCamry :: 2007 - Clunking Noises When Turning Steering Wheel To Left
My 2007 Camry makes clunking noises when I turn the steering wheel to the left mostly. This happens most often when the weather is warm and hot but not during the winter time.
The noise seems to come only from around the steering wheel area inside my vehicle. Hence, I don't think it has to do with the CV Joints or anything like that but the steering wheel unit.
Camry :: 2011 - Steering Assembly Clunking When Driving Slowly And Turning Over A Dip Or Bump
When I'm driving slowly and turning over a dip or bump, like driving out of a driveway while turning, I always hear something in my steering assembly clunking. Is it something I can tighten up, like a bushing? I know it's not the usual the abs system clunk, and it's a different sound from the echo inside the tires one may hear at low speeds.

View 9 RepliesGolf V R32 :: 2008 - Clunking Sound In Reverse?
I just purchased an '08 R32 in deep blue pearl .
Definitely very excited about the new ride BUT the car makes a pretty disconcerting "clunk" when I start backing out in reverse. I did have my local VW dealer do a full inspection and the previous owner was pretty OCD about maintenance.
The DSG and fuel service recalls were completed and the haldex & diff fluids changed a couple thousand miles back. What might be causing this? Car has 56k miles on it but otherwise seems really well maintained. Drives really well outside of that ... guess I should've done more reversing during my test drive.
Dodge - Grandcaravan :: Clunking Noise When Braking In Reverse
If I am moving in reverse and tap the brake I hear a clunk from the rear of the car. If I continue in reverse and then again apply the brake then no clunk. If I drive forward and stop, no clunk. If I then shift into reverse again and apply brake I get the clunk again. Had the struts/shocks replaced but no change.

I have an 06 Montana sv6 that clunks when I start to move forward or reverse. Not when I put it in gear but as I start to move. It also does it when I take off from a stop sign. It doesn't make any noise while driving or turning though.
View 1 RepliesSanta FE SM (2001-06) :: 2004 - Clunking Noise In Drive Or Reverse
2004 Santa Fe, clunking noise in drive or reverse. checked brakes and cv joints, replaced drivers front and still making the noise. Transfer case was a little low on fluid but not much. Put up on stands and turn wheels with no noise. Put in drive or reverse while in the air and rear wheels sit still. It is a 4wd so I would think that all 4 tires would be turning. While in the air the front both turn and no noise is made.

I've only owned my neon for 3 weeks. I have a loud knocking/clunking noise and it feels like the rear is trying to freeze up in reverse it knocks/clunks louder when i brake in reverse. Sometimes it will knock/clunk and feel like something is trying freeze up in normal forward driving (maybe one of twice every few days) but it happens every single time i reverse.
We have already replaced the rear struts as we thought this was the problem.
I'm getting frustrated I need a good car to drive my child to school and I afraid to drive this one but I don't have much of a choice. It has had a lot of recent work by the previous owner (my brother-in-law) including a new clutch, exhaust, tie rods, new brakes all around and brand new tires so i'd like to fix it because it's in great shape and runs well for it age.
Another piece of information that may be relevant is the car sat for roughly a year and half with no use but was regularly started although I don't think they moved it. I'm wondering if it could have something to do with the brakes?
The problem starting roughly 3 days after I bought the car I don't drive much but would like to fix this so we can take it on longer trips as it's the only vehicle we own that fits everyone in it. Our secondary is a 2 seater Toyota pickup for my husband to commute to work in and there's 3 of us so the car being in the condition it's in doesn't work for us.
Santa FE SM (2001-06) :: Rear End Clunking When Going From Reverse To Drive At Slow Speed
2001 Santa Fe 2.7L 4wd ... In December I bought this vehicle it only has 95K on it. When I drove the car home I noticed it needed brakes so I put brand new pads and rotors on the whole way around. I changed the oil, air filter, wiper blades, and made sure all fluids were good. I had the front spring recall done and also put some new sway bar end links on the front. The car runs fine and I am rather impressed with it. It does have some rust but I'm not to worried about that. This isn't my everyday car just a winter/extra car. Recently I have been getting some clunking only when going from reverse to drive and going slow. You get a clunk..clunk pause clunk..clunk almost like you have a flat but once I get the car up to speed it is fine and you never hear it again until the car sits a day or so and then it will do it again. I don't know if I have a differential problem or a u joint or maybe something with the e brake or rear brakes? but it is -3 right now outside and I would rather know where to start so that when I can take a look at it I know some things to check or what it might be.
View 3 RepliesSubaru - Outback :: 2002 - Clunking When Switching Into Reverse - Transaxle Mount?
2002 Subaru Outback 4cyl auto trans 166.8K miles
Hearing a "clunk" lately when switching into reverse in the AM after starting the car. The transmission seems to drive completely normal otherwise. So I checked the trans fluid and it's fine. Then I started looking at mounts. Upper engine mount has about 1mm of play, lower mounts don't budge. Then I went to the transaxle mount and found that there seemed to be almost 2cm of space (can easily fit my fingers in there) between the stopper and the transaxle crossmember (picture attached). When I have someone put the car in reverse while I am underneath (obviously we have the brake / parking brake engaged so I don't get run over) I see this stopper move upward and can see the entire drive shaft move upwards also. Not just a few mm, but on the order of centimeters. I could not get the clunk to occur to see if I can hear where it comes from.
Is this space and movement in the stopper and drivetrain normal?
If it's not normal, could this cause the clunk to happen?
It it's not normal, should I have it repaired on this vehicle? Is it hurting anything / worth it long term?
If it's normal, any other advice on sorting out the clunk? It does it about 75% of the time I shift into reverse, but seems less likely when the car is warm.
Ford - Mountaineer :: 2002 - Clunking / Clanging Sound When Going In Forward And Reverse
I have an 02 mercury mountaineer awd. It's making a clunking/clanging sound when going in forward and reverse and it gets louder when turning. Just replaced driver cv axle, changed fluids on front and rear differential also put the stiction modifier in rear. It only does it on the ground assuming it's putting a load on it. Won't do it on a lift. What might be causing it. Tires are same size also.

I look at the mount and it appears to look good, but was wondering how I can really tell if a motor mount needs replacing or not.
View 3 RepliesHonda - Suspension - Odyssey :: 2004 - Clunking Sound When Placing The Van From Park To Reverse
The last couple winter's we've experienced a significant "clunking" sound when placing the van from Park to Reverse. It doesn't do this by moving the gear shift from Park to Drive or Neutral. This only happens when the engine is cold and has been sitting for several hours. Outside temps below 35-40 degrees. Don't have the problem in Spring, Summer, or Fall. We have 177K miles. Transmission fluid/filter has been changed regularly by my mechanic according to Honda's instructions.
No problems with the transmission or engine since we've owned the vehicle, and we've been the only owners. No leaking found. Honda thought the problem could be a rear engine mount. Just had another local mechanic (I'm 65 miles from the nearest Honda dealer) whom we trust replace the Rear Transmission Mount. Still have the clunking noise, and you can really feel it too. It's been a great van for us, and we'd like to keep it another 50K, if possible.
