Knee :: The Back Of My Knee Hurts
On August, I over-stretched a ligament on my knee while playing soccer and was on crutches for a month and half. Afterwards, everything was fine and my knee felt normal. It's now April and it is starting to hurt again. Specifically the back of my knee. I didn't have to have any surgery before. Would I need to now? I don't know what to do.

yesterday at work a crate of marble sink tops fell and hit the side of my knee. A huge bump formed right away but I didn't feel any pain really; just some discomfort. About three hours later I began to feel a sharp pain in my foot and it keeps getting worse. Also the bump that was on the side of my knee is now gone. Any idea what's going on?

View 5 RepliesKnee Hurts After Grit Plyo Exercises - Can't Straighten It
I'm currently training for the army and my fitness level is so-so. I ran up and down hill, and then did Grit Plyo exercises. During Grit my knee felt sore, kind of a shooting pain. Afterwards it hurt like hell. Keeping it curled seems to make the pain go away but I can't fully extend it and I limp everywhere. I can't feel any swelling 24 hours later but there is inflammation (it's a bit stiff) I didn't hear any popping sounds and I rest it with a hot water bottle and some anti flammability pills three times a day. I've had achilles problems in the past if that's any help but I seem to get knee problems from going up and down hill, as last time I went uphill my knee hurt but I was able to rest on it. I went to a physio and within two weeks it was fine. I waited a month before getting back into high impact exercise and now this happens. Any advice please?
View 1 RepliesKnee Hurts Extremely Bad - Braces Didn't Work
I'm 17 years old I've played volleyball basketball and track my whole high school career and I've always had problems with my knees and ankles but I've been going to the doctor for my knees for like 2 years now and I've had like 3 MRIs they never tell me anything I've tried braces but they don't work. My left knee is way worse than my right but they both hurt. It started out feeling like I just had to crack my knee like if you straighten your elbow and it cracks but then it progressed and know it hurts extremely bad when I start running and I can't stand up after sitting like straightening them hurts horribly bad. Sometimes while I'm sitting they ache and I feel like it's on the inner side of my knee and on my left knee it's on the left side inside and if I go on my tip toe it hurts really bad like a shooting pain kind of it's like a line kinda. And it's also worse when they're cold like I have to drive with the heat on them even when it's 80 degrees outside.
View 2 RepliesArthritis :: Knee Hurts To Put Weight On It After Periods Of Sitting
It began by hurting in my knee. Then it began to hurt to put my weight on that leg. Now it hurts in the knee but also down the side into my side calf muscle. It still hurts to put weight on it. The strange thing is it hurts to put weight on it after periods of sitting or laying. Once I walk about 50 or so feet the pain of putting weight on it lessens. Advil helps some.

View 1 RepliesFibromyalgia And Partial Knee Replacement
I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia in 1996 and since that time I've managed to keep it under control with a combination of prescription drugs (amitriptyline), nurofen, reflexology, rest......and numerous hot water bottles! However nearly 9 weeks ago I had a patellofemoral arthroplasty (knee cap and trochlea) replacement after waiting 11 years for this, I am only 56 now so was considered too young before. Everything going ok, scar healing nicely, and I've been massaging scar and surrounding area with vitamin E oil and bio oil. Doing exercises, particularly on static exercise bike which really 'loosens' up any stiffness! However, as day wears on my knee goes really stiff and I can barely bend it. I don't trust myself to walk on it, and I am currently using a stick to enable me to hobble about! It is very frustrating as I'm reading that this type of surgery has a quicker recovery time than TKR. Is all this normal or, as I'm presuming, my fibromyalgia is exacerbating this as it considers surgery as "trauma"? I have been posting on this forum under "knee problems" but have now decided to also post under the "fibromyalgia syndrome" in the hope that someone out there has also had knee surgery and can offer any advice.

View 1 RepliesReverse Osteoporosis?
After my dad who is 85 was diagnosed with Osteoporosis, I started doing some research. Most if not all these meds have so many side effects and are even thought to cause further damage to the bone. There are a lot of doctors starting to promote healthy diet changes as opposed to taking meds. The old theory that milk and dairy promotes bone health is now thought to be a scam funded with trillions of dollars by the dairy industry. So I'm curious, has anyone tried a plant based or starch based diet to reduce symptoms or even reverse their Osteoporosis?

After 2 years of doctors advising me to go on hrt especially as i am early menopausal, i gave in 6 months ago and went on elleste duet. It has stopped my hot flushes, night sweats, joint pain, dry skin etc: which is all
good but I'm still not convinced i am doing the right thing,I am very concerned about the cancer risks so I am thinking of coming off them as well as my mini pill (which i take to control my endometriosis) I am mostly concerned about osteoporosis, and my question is surely if i take Vit D and Calcium every day I can protect my bones in the same way ?
Bone / Joint :: Knee Pain: Ligament Tightness Behind Knee, Slight Knee Pain Under Kneecap
So I dislocated my knee in January of this year. I was given a device that isolates my knee cap and hold it in place. I wore the device off and on over the year whenever my knee would feel sort of irregular. I worked out routinely to help strengthen my knee, it helped the pain somewhat, but mostly just made me feel better about the way I looked, and kept me healthy. I haven't worked out since some time before Thanksgiving. Starting this week i've started to feel this new akward feeling behind my kneecap, sort of like the ligament behind my knee cap is tightening, sort of similar to how it felt when I dislocated my knee, but not exactly the same. I get the pain after fully bending my knee, for example when I am on my knees doing my job stocking shelves at work, when I stand to my feet I can usually feel the pain. I try doing a couple of different stretches when to make the feeling go away a bit, but it comes back, and then it eventually goes away again.
My knee "pops" (makes a loud popping noise and pressure) pretty regularly now but when I get off of work and off of my knees I experience the discomfort much less. I want to start exercising again on Monday, but I am scared I might dislocate again. I will try using the knee cap device again tomorrow, but I feel as though whenever I use the device, it makes my knee feel like jello the next day, and make me want to use the device again, even though I was advised by my doctor that I should not need to use it regularly. ....
Osteoporosis And Osteopenia :: Co-Codamol Failed
I can't find ANYTHING that removes the pain! Co Codamol doesn't, the 'so called' pain relieving gels don't (I've tried 3 different types). Can anyone suggest anything else?
Yesterday I twisted my hips somehow as I got out of the chair, the pain was excruciating. Since then I can hardly walk (how does excercise, excercise fit in then?)
I had been doing so well, 20 mins walk per day (and I've always disliked walking!) - physiotherapy, etc.
Osteoporosis Relation To Parathyroid Disease?
I have general query regarding parathyroid disease in the context of women with 50+ years of age. Is osteoporosis a symptom of this kind of disease ? Or, does it need to be both vitamin-D3 & Ca to be high in Blood too ? For example, if x-ray shows osteoporosis & also vitamin-D3 (25 OH) is too low (i.e. < 15), can we simply rule out parathyroid disease here ? Or, to be sure, we need to test serum Ca as well ?

When taking ADCAL -D3 for Osteoporosis and THYROXINE for underactive thyroid, there should be a space of at least 4, yes 4 hours between these medications as side effects could be upset tummy, wind and constipation etc.
So tomorrow I will leave off the ADCAL-D3 for a few days to see if this is the problem.
Hysterectomy :: Increased Risk Of Heart Disease And Osteoporosis?
When I met with the gynaecological oncologist, and decided that to be safe I should have a hysterectomy to get rid of the rapidly growing, funny looking (on MRI) fibroid, he said "we'll take out the ovaries, too." At the time, I didn't say anything.
However, after I went home, and I did a lot of research and found that it would be a bad idea because having my ovaries removed increase my risk of heart disease and osteoporosis, and my family has a strong history of both, but not of cancer (which I didn't think to mention at the consultation - finding out that there was a slight chance I might have cancer in my uterus put other thoughts out of my mind.) So I sent a very long, detailed email to the gyn/onc, explaining why I thought removing my ovaries would be a bad idea but never got a response. So I called the gynaecological nurse, who was present at my consultation, and she reassured me that I didn't have to have my ovaries out; I have to consent to the surgery.
Well, I was all relieved until I had my pre surgical assessment on Wednesday, when I was given the paperwork to fill out and on the top of the first page it said TAH/BSO (The BSO part means removal of Fallopian tubes and ovaries.) I wrote on the page that I did not consent to BSO and told the assessment nurse, who said she just go that from the doctor and it had nothing to do with her.
So when I returned home, I spoke to the gyn/onc's secretary, who said that she must have mistakenly wrote TAH/BSO on the form and not to worry, the doctor knows about it. I said that I wanted to make sure that he was aware of it prior to my surgery, which is this coming Wednesday, and she said she would speak to him on Friday (today) and would call me back.
Well, I never heard back so called around 4:50 and spoke to a woman (not sure if it was the same person) who, after I gave my name, immediately started reassuring me that my operation would go on as scheduled. I explained that wasn't why I was calling, I wanted to make sure that the doctor wasn't expecting to take out my ovaries when I didn't want him to. She then tried to reassure me that everything was as expected and something about an email being forwarded to him (not sure if she said she forwarded an email or my email). I think she also mentioned something about getting in touch on Monday.
I know that I don't have to consent to anything I don't want to, but I also don't want to have the doctor come in on the morning expecting to do one type of surgery and then being asked to do something else. If the gyn/onc thinks that even with my family history, I'm better off without ovaries, then I'm willing to listen and change my decision, but I don't like the idea of not knowing what is happening with me until the last minute and having to have these kind of conversations on the day of my operation.
