Trimethoprim :: Allergic Reaction
I was prescribed this drug yesterday for a supposed urine infection. I had suffered with urine infections alot in my teens and into adulthood, however had not had an infection since having my son 8 years ago. I had problems during my pregnancy high blood pressure being one of these problems. As a result I only have one fully functional kidney. I was told that my blood pressure would probably go up again in later life and therefore have had it checked each year since.
On a routine checkup a couple of weeks ago, it appears that the high blood pressure is back and at the checkup I also had my urine dipped. The nurse asked me if I had any problems passing water etc. When I said I hadn't, she said there was something in my water and would send it off to the hospital just in case. I said that I thought I would have noticed if there had been a problem.
Anyway, yesterday I got the results and the surgery informed me that my doctor had left a prescription out for me. I picked it up and took the first tablet at four o'clock. By seven o'clock I had a severe headache, and the most awful chest pain, I thought I was having a heart attack
On reading the side effects we rang the hospital, got an appointment, by which time my back and chest were covered in a rash. My Blood pressure had reached 240/140 extremely high....
The doctor confirmed that it was an allergic reaction to trimethoprim and injected me with an antihistamine. Having checked my urine again, they said I did not have an infection in the first instance and should never have been prescribed this drug and confirmed that it could have been fatal.
I am going to make a formal complaint to my doctor and would like to take this further. Why is this drug being prescribed? I think I am very lucky to be here today and my children could have been left without their mum.
Severe Allergic Reaction To Cyclizine
After reading all these posts about Cyclizine, I feel I should add my own traumatic experience from 7 years ago:
(I now know that I am severely allergic to Cyclizine).
Back in the ward after breast cancer surgery with two visitors at my bedside, I suddenly began to feel nauseous. Unable to move my head at the time, I asked a number of times if I could have a 'sick bowl' handy as I felt I was going to be sick. No-one seemed to hear my plea, even though there were lots of medical staff and visitors around in this busy ward. I felt I was speaking loudly but my request still went unanswered. I summoned up the strength to really shout out Please, I need a sick bowl - I think I'm going to be sick. Next thing I saw the nurse half way down the bed putting a needle into the back of my right hand. I asked her what it was for and she replied "Just something to stop you feeling sick". Within seconds of that a strong wave of something went through my head and through every part of me. I started to feel as though my whole body was like jelly and (just as one other poster has described) felt as though I was drowning, couldn't breathe and literally felt as though the life was rapidly draining out of me.
Although I couldn't move my head (or any part of my body), I could see just in front of me and was aware that the woman in the bed opposite me was sitting up and staring at me, as was her visitor. I wanted to shout out Stop Staring at Me, What are you looking at .... but the words wouldn't come out.
There was a rush of panic all around my bed, with doctors having been called and nurses running around but at this stage I couldn't see what was going on - only hear. I heard to my left what I recognised to be the Sister's voice (from having spoken with her earlier) - shouting angrily "Who turned this off?" She was obviously referring to whatever machine I had been attached to there - which had apparently turned itself off!
Then I remember another nurse's voice which I recognized very clearly as an American nurse that I had been chatting and joking with earlier. Although I couldn't see her, I knew it was her because I recognized her loud Texan drawl. She was also the nurse who I had seen (with my tunnel vision) put the needle into my hand. I do believe now that it was her voice that saved my life. Her voice was all I could hear at this stage. She was obviously very close right in front of my face and I remember she kept repeating abruptly and loud: "Don't close your eyes - KEEP YOUR EYES OPEN!" My eyes felt so very very heavy and they kept closing. I so badly wanted to keep them closed - but then her loud voice would bark out the order again "OPEN YOUR EYES!" and with all the strength I could muster I forced them to open each time. It was very hard to do, like I needed a bulldozer to get them to open ... but I managed to do so, only because I could tell from the urgency in her voice that I HAD TO keep those eyes open.
I was also aware that I had been given an oxygen mask and at this stage must have been coming around. The "jelly" feeling had gone and I remember feeling my nose was itchy under the mask. I wanted to scratch it but couldn't move my hands. I'm not sure how long all this was going on, but when the panic was all over I remember the Sister then telling me that I should add 'CYCLIZINE' to my list of allergies. (I am also allergic to Penicillin (as well as some other antibiotics), and this is something I already knew).
I'm not sure that CYCLIZINE should be banned altogether, as it is obviously something that is helpful to others (in the same way as Penicillin is to others), but I do think it should come under the same category as Penicillin and perhaps some sort of pre-test should be done before administering the drug.
Penis :: Allergic Reaction To Baby Oil During Intercourse
I was having vagina intercourse with my wife when we decided to give anal a try. I used normal baby oil the one used on hair or whatever the normal use is. I used this baby oil as a lube to insert my penis into her anus. this was on a Saturday then the next day Sunday early Monday I noticed my penis head was red it had small red dots(bumps) all over it and that my wife as well had some sort of redness and swollen to her vaginal area. I like to think this swollen penis head and red dots are from a allergic reaction to the oil or from the anal sex but I would like to know the likelihood of this being a possibility also I am not circumcised but I take good care to clean it thoroughly when I shower. I also tried cleaning it with a hand soup because I thought if I clean the early as much as possible it would help clear the rash but now it seems my penis is drying up and it just started to itch this morning no weird smells or irregular discharge is coming from my penis.
View 1 RepliesContraception :: Copper Coil Causing Allergic Reaction?
I had an IUD put in on 2Oct. I have been bleeding excessively(confirmed by doc), cramping almost as bad as my miscarriages, nauseated, drained feeling, achy, sharp shooting pains throughout my uterus and surrounding area. I had an ultrasound done to make sure the IUD is in the right spot and it is.
I have always had sensitive ears and only able to wear silver and 14k or better gold earrings, but lately my ears are reacting even to those now and in a worrying speed.
Herpes :: Clitoris Inflammed - Hydrocortisone Cream Allergic Reaction?
So recently I have had these bumps they could be ingrown hairs not sure. Had unprotected sex 7 days ago .Today I look at the hood of my clitoris and it was inflamed I'm guessing because I applied hydrocortisone cream on the bumps on my pubic area and I could be having an allergic reaction but then today the skin was peeling off the hood of my clitoris. If I had herpes would Hydrocortisone cream heal the bumps? Because I don't think hydrocortisone would work. The bumps are hard and not in clusters. They don't look like blisters and it does burn when I pee..

Was hospitalised for a week 18 months ago with temp over 40 and severe pain in my arms where all the muscles had gone totally solid. Couldn't walk, move or anything. Half way through my week my tongue swelled up and my throat covered in ulcers. Had morphine and antibiotics to treat. No reason ever found as to why -tested for cancer, meningitis and lupus -all clear
Last friday took trimethoprim for urine infection. Within hour all the symptons i had in hospital were back. Doctor told me to take double dose - got worse - went to hospital - got treated - went home. When had enough strength to ring doctor i asked if i was given Trimethoprim before and guess what? I was prescribed it five days before admittance to hospital 18 months ago
Trimethoprim Reaction :: Nasty Red Rash And Sore Throat
I was prescribed this yesterday (UTI) and didn't think anything of it as I've never had a problem with antibiotics before. Oh dear, within about 6 hours, I was feeling very hot and itchy. I was covered head to foot in a nasty red (looked like sunburn), angry rash, had a sore throat and felt fluey. Didn't feel sick though, which is unusual for me as I have a very sensitive digestive system.
Called my GP this morning who told me to STOP taking it immediately (only taken 2 of a 6 tablet course). I'm hoping this reaction will subside now I've stopped taking it but reading the comments hear, it sounds as if it can take a while To top it all, I'm now going to have to take another antibiotic and the UTI is no better.
Trimethoprim :: 28 Days Supply Of Trimethoprim. Should I Be Worried ?
I have been diagnosed with Chronic Prostatitis and prescribed a 28 day course of 200 mg Trimethoprim tablets along with 2.5mg of Oxybutynin for the same period. Started the treatment several days ago having taken 4 tablets of each drug. There are no immediate side effects apart from a slight dizzyness. Having read the posts about the bad reactions to this drug,it has given me great concern over the long period I have to take these tablets. Are there any other readers to this website who have taken this drug for the same period of about a month ?

View 3 RepliesMirtazapine Making Me Hungry And Gain Weight
I have a question for you all about Mirt, and more specifically, the weight gain that is said to come with Mirt. A lot of you, in your posts, have said that you have experienced the weight gain, and this worries me because I am already quite a big dude. In fact, I am about to start dieting and exercising more to shed weight, so the thought of Mirt causing me to gain, well, it's not a very nice thought.
When you guys say it caused you to gain weight, is that because it made you hungry and therefore you ate more? Does the weight gain happen to everyone? Is there anyone that has been on Mirt that did not gain weight? I am only on 15mg, which I think is the lowest dose. I mean, if it does start to make me extremely hungry, I'll certainly try my best to snack on stuff like fruit or something like that. Of course I have literally on taken one tablet, which started yesterday, so I am curious to hear from the people who have taken the drug for months, even years. If Mirt is going to make me gain weight, after I told the doctor of my plans to lose weight, I am gonna march down there and offer to fight her after her shift finishes.
Eating Disorders :: Stomach Full But Still Hungry All The Time
I don't know when I'm hungry and when I'm full. It feels the same to me. I can feel my stomach rumbling when I'm hungry, but when I eat it doesn't leave even when I've eating enough. I can feel my stomach is full but I'm still hungry. This causes me to eat a lot of food. I ate 2,000 calories for breakfast yesterday and I still felt hungry. I don't know how else to explain this. Does anyone else feel this way?

I've been on 75mg of dothiepin for 1 & a half weeks due to anxiety & mild depression. The intense anxiety (the sickness, feelings of going mad, inability to sleep, shaking) has gone with these tablets, but I'm feeling very spaced out and like I'm dreaming everything. Don't know whether it's the tablets or the anxiety causing it. I've seen a vast improvement in the last week, but I'm scared the tablets are making me feel like I've got someone else's brain & eyes in my head, very weird feeling! Anyone have the same feelings with it?

Have had to reduce this as I've been completely spaced out, lethargic, and generally not feeling that great.Actually felt more anxious and depressed on this dose. It seems to help with sleep but has reduced by ability to play sport etc. Has anyone stayed on 25-50 mg and found it helpful?

View 7 RepliesLightheaded, Dizzy And Spaced Out For 2 Years
I'm hoping / praying someone can shed some light on my extremely frustrating & somewhat debilitating symptoms.Approxx two years ago I started to feel a little light headed, I was working in retail at the time and the shop was incredibly busy (I have always worked in sales, so this did not phase me, what did cause me concern was how light headed I had been feeling) At the time, I presumed it was just a side effect from citalopram - something I had been prescribed six months earlier for feeling a little low. I did think it was strange that I felt woozy and lightheaded six months into the course as I had only previously experienced this feeling at the very beginning. I mentioned it to my doc and they agreed if i felt ready i should taper off citalopram - so i did. Slowly but surely i reduced my dose and presumed the light headed, dizzy almost drunk feeling would disappear - much to my surprise, i am still in the same state - blurred vision, wobbly, floaty and very very dizzy.
I have been to see my GP numerous times - my iron & bloody sugar levels, thyroid have been tested. They even sent me for an MRI scan and it all came back clear. My blood pressure is a little low but nothing too alarming and the ENT doctor said they couldn't find any inner ear problems (which I kind of thought would be the case because it's not a spinning sensation that you might expect from say labyrinthitis, it's more of a constant faint feeling)
It is a nightmare crossing the road or entering a busy supermarket. I am no longer quick on my feet and my memory is very poor too. I feel dazed and confused a lot of the time and extremely tired.
I'm only 31 and have a real love for life - can anyone suggest what could possibly be happening to me? I would be incredibly grateful as this god awful 'whatever it is' is really taking it's toll on my work, my relationship with my partner, friends and family (more so because there is no diagnosis as yet so I feel like people don't really understand what is actually wrong with me) every day I pray that this has just been a nightmare and I will wake up and feel normal again.
