Thyroid Disorders :: When To Start Drugs According To TSH Levels ?

I have very recently been diagnosed with hypothyroidism. I've taken the thyroid uptake scan and my dr. Office says it came back abnormal and enlarged thyroid.

According to my blood work my TSH is 0.227. (0.450-4.500)T4/free is 1.80 (0.82-1.77)

My question is should medication begin with these levels?

Alcohol And Drug Misuse :: Drug Urine Test

I'm a bit worried. I had a urine test at work but forgot to mention that I had some antibiotics about 3/4weeks (maybe more) prior to the test, the antibiotic was penicillin VK.

I've read most antibiotics stay in your system for up to around 4-8 hours, especially penicillin VK. Some other sources reckoned between 7-10 days max. Although most said up to about 8hours max.

So I'm wondering if this would show up in the test at all?

When Is Best To Take PPI Drugs For LPR (for Sore Throat)

I have today seen an ENT surgeon who has confirmed that i have LPR (silent reflux) which is giving me a sore / burning throat and roof of my mouth.

My gp had me on ppi drugs but they hadn't been doing anything for my symptoms which the surgeon said they probably won't do a great deal for your throat as such which is why you’re probably not seeing much change in your throat problems, he has asked me to still keep taking them as he wants me to try and keep the acid build up down.

I don’t have any other symptoms apart from my throat / mouth issue.

He has asked me to just take gaviscon advance 3 times a day as well as the ppi drugs, the ppi half an hour before i eat and the gaviscon about half an hour after i eat and last thing before bed.

My main question though is when i am best taking my ppi drug, up to now i have always been taking it first thing in the morning, i am starting to think that specifically for my throat issues its probably related to night time, meaning i maybe best taking the ppi before bed to try and limit the reflux at that time?

So I've been reading a lot of posts that say they've been drug tested while they've been pregnant? When exactly do they do that right before you give birth or right after?

Drugs For Anxiety Insomnia And Depression ?

I asked my doc for trazodone today for my insomnia, he gave me a script for ten zopiclone instead, he said trazodone was not a good drug for depression, and that lexapro ( he has me on 30 mg ) is a far superior drug, I pointed out to him that I have been on 30 mg for over a year and while my depression is very manageable, my insomnia and anxiety have not improved and that in my opinion anxiety has always been my primary issue. I take inderal 80 mg daily for anxiety , which just makes it bearable. Has anyone on any different combination of drugs for anxiety insomnia and depression that they find works. Yes I know we're all different ! I have been on sooo many antidepressants, and I can't honestly recommend any of them.

Z Drugs And Benzodiazepines Are Creating Addicts

I cannot believe that doctors and psychiatrists have not learnt. One of the biggest mistakes of the twenty century is Zopiclone and Valium and any other benzodiazepine! They are are causing so many people then labeling them addicts. The withdrawal from these drugs are unacceptable. The next thing they do is introduce antipsychotics, then on to the psychiatrist who finds other labels such as bipolar or depersonalisation. Why don't they ban new prescribing of these poisons. The poor people on them need to withdraw slowly at their own pace and not sectioned and left in psychiatric hospitals on an abrupt withdrawal. I am so angry writing this as I've just answered somebody's post! Let's all stand together and do something about it.

Thyroid :: Natural Ways To Dissolve Thyroid Nodules

I have 3 thyroid nodules and 1 cyst. I have been advised to have a thyroidectomy. I do not want to go this route yet and am searching for some natural remedies. I have heard of using iodine but to be careful do to the fact that that might enlarge the nodules. I recently found out that I am very iodine deficient from a lab result. I have heard of iodine trapping, whereby the iodine taken in when their is a severe deficiency is immediately 'trapped' and held in the gland in order to preserve some iodine for the use of the thyroid. I would like to proceed with caution and try the iodine therapy.

Does anyone on this board have any experience with successfully dissolving or at least reducing the nodules/cysts?

Anti-thyroid Antibodies With A Fully Functioning Thyroid

I am new to this site. I have been diagnosed as Euthyroid (antithyroid antibodies with a fully functioning thyroid) and I also have Anti-nuclear antibodies - Speckled 1:640.

I don't have Lupus as have been tested for that.

I am currently undergoing IVF and have had 2 failed rounds. I have been put on Aspirin (100 mg), Prednisolone 7.5mg a day and CoEnzyme Q10, folate and Vit B12 with no success.

I am desperately looking for anyone in my situation that can offer any sort of guidance, maybe a drug regime you are on or just anything at all. I desperately want children but it isn't looking too good. I'm terribly sad about the prospect of never having children.

Ive been trying for 3 years now and was pregnant once and miscarried at about 5 weeks back in 2011 and have never been pregnant since indicating a problem but I don't have any other issues except a low egg reserve which is from these other issues

Prescription Drug Abuse (Opiates)

My 24 year old son is on day 4 in rehab for prescription drug abuse (Opiates). He detoxed himself last fall only to relapse 2 months later. Right now he is in a 28 day program but I am very scared that is not long enough. I feel so doomed, everything I read about addiction is so negative about recovery. Right now, all he talks about is how hard this is and that all he thinks about is his next dose of detox meds. He talks about how good the meds he was abusing made him feel. His talk just makes me feel like he will never be able to beat this. Before his addiction he was the sweetest, most sensitive, loving guy you would ever meet. Everyone is drawn to him. I still can't believe these drugs got a hold of him. His brain has been hijacked, literally.

Is there anything anyone can tell me that will give me just a little tiny bit of hope?

Mirtazapine Helped - A Miraculous Drug

I appear for the defence , M'Lud.

I was on SSRI antidepressants for some time.  They countered my extreme anxiety well, but I had bad insomnia probably caused by the  AD.  I tried various drugs for the insomnia (zopiclone,  amitriptyline etc) but with little success.   My doctor suggested mirtazapine but I declined as I had read about its weight gain side effect.  However eventually I changed my mind out of desperation.  The mirt was miraculous: it completely solved the insomnia.   I felt "normal" for the first time in months.

"But what about the side effects" I hear you say.  Well, I did get back my appetite - but no more than it was before I became ill.   I gained a little weight, but no more than I had lost.

I did have difficulty getting up in the morning and feeling groggy after that, but those lessened with time. I take the minimum mirt that allows me to get to sleep - about 11 mg,  and I think that keeps the side effects down.

Mirtazapine is like a knife in that it is not evil in itself, it is how it is used that matters.   The people who say it is evil have perhaps been on the wrong dose.  Mirt tends to be more sedative at low doses; more activating at high doses.   Do not throw out the baby with the bath water!

I get the impression from reading posts on this forum that mirt is best used (at low dose) to counter insomnia or where an SSRI antidepressant has not been tolerated.

Hypertension :: Side Effects Of The Antihypertensive Drugs?

I'm an Indian, male, 21 years. I was diagnosed with essential hypertension four years back. It stays around 130/90 with a few occasional spikes to highs of 140/100 in winter. My weight is 58 kg and height is 5'6". My LDL & triglyceride was a little high then, but with change in diet, it has come down to normal values (TC-179, HDL- 60, LDL- 97, VLDL- 22, Triglyceride- 100). My blood sugar level is normal(last checked a year back). However, my doctor thinks its time to put me on antihypertensives for preventive future damage after my next checkup if my BP stays at same level.

I am a little concerned about side effects of these drugs I read about. Do I really need to be on medicines?

P.S I have a family history of hypertension from young age( mother's side of family). However, there is no reported cases of heart disease and most of them lived over ages of 70.

Anti Anxiety Drugs :: Xanax And Lorazepam Together?

I’ve been having anxiety attacks for years now, and during this time I’ve been on several anti depressants - I’m currently on sertraline, but alongside them I’ve been also prescribed Xanax to help better control my anxiety. Since my old psychiatrist retired, I’ve got a new one and she thinks I’ve been on Xanax for too long and is now considering to switch me to Lorazepam.

I’m bit afraid that I might go into withdrawal from Xanax, so I’m wondering would it be OK if I continued to take Xanax for at least a while together with Lorazepam?

Drugs To Relax Before Wisdom Tooth Extraction?

I'm going through a bit of anxiety about getting my lower left wisdom tooth extracted. It's fully erupted and will be cut out by an oral surgeon under local anesthetics. It's cracked and painful so it probably has to go soon. I'm extremely phobic about this so I definitely need something to calm me down. Is there a drug that'll make me fearless? It has to be something that i can get prescribed by my doctor. Would something like Xanax work or is there something better? I believe I will be getting laughing gas as well.
