Thyroid Disorders :: How To Get Rid Of Choking Feeling?

I have had choking feeling for the last 2 months. It is now almost everyday. I sleep very well and do not wake up with it. I start getting it by the afternoon until bedtime. It is really bothering me. I have had hypothyroidism for 12 years but my tests are fine and my ultra sound is good too. The ENT doctor says it is stress related but I think there is more to it than stress. It is really bothering me and I do not know what to do?

Asthma :: Choking Feeling? Anxiety?

I've been having this horrible feeling like someone has a hand around the base of my throat, but I can breathe mostly fine. It's a horrible feeling. It gets worse when I lay down. Also I've been feeling lately like I can't breathe and I have to take a deep breath almost like a fast yawn. My inhaler only works for a couple of minutes and then it's back. I went to the ER and they said it was anxiety, which it is not. I make an appointment with a pulmonary specialist tomorrow. Anyone have any ideas as to what it could be our how I can help it until I can get to my doc?

Thyroid :: Choking Sensation

I have many on thyroid medication for hypothyroidism for years and have been stable on the same dose for most of those. Early this year I started with a new doctor after my former one retired. She decided to have me tested and found my levels a little high so changed my medication from Thyroid Whole 65mg to a different brand and dropped it to 50mg. These gave me headaches and made me feel yuk so was switched to Levothyroxine 50mg. These appeared to be okay and my next test was reading normal.

Now though I feel like someone is trying to choke me all the time. When I rung and spoke to the nurse she said the doctor said to stay on that dose and be tested again in 3 months. My voice has started croaking and I feel so miserable. The only relief I get is when I first wake in the morning.

I have made another appointment for tomorrow to tell the doctor that I would like to see a thyroid specialist. Hopefully I won't have to wait to long for an appointment.

Anxiety :: Choking And Throat Closing Feeling?

Lately I've been having a choking feeling, I'm pretty sure it's a normal feeling of anxiety but it is sure annoying. Feels kinda like my throat is closing too, then I start feeling like I can't breathe. Typical anxiety attack now. I've gotten myself into having one every night now because I was so terrified of the one I had the other night. It sucks that I get them before bed because I'm so tired but can't sleep with the choking feeling

Waking Up Choking / Lump In The Back Of Throat Feeling

I am a 40 yr old male who has been dealing with a choking issue for some time now.  What happens is when I lay down to sleep I will wake up a short time later feeling like there is a lump of junk in the back of my throat that I can't cough up.  I ended up in the hospital the first time it happened and they ran x rays and checked me out and said they couldn't find anything wrong other than my throat is narrow and seemed irritated. We later found out we had mold in our home and moved out as my entire family was affected by it but now the problem is back and it's only happening to me and not my family.  I've tried benedryl to see if it was allergy related and it didn't help,.  Sometimes it will start with me just sitting in a chair and not sleeping(watching tv).  Its a feeling of needing to cough up something that just isn't there but my air way feels obstructed.  When it happens if I suck on a mint or a candy after about an hour it will relieve itself but if I lay down it starts up again.  Anyone dealt with this or dealing with something like this?

Thyroid :: Choking Sensation - How Long It Took To Develop?

However, what I could not find an answer for... is how long did it take for the choking sensation to develop?

Two days ago, I was sitting in front of tv, chatting with family... then all of a sudden I felt like there was something caught in my throat.... the feeling that usually would go away after u have a glass of water. I ignored the feeling and had a sip of my now cool cup of tea and it didn't help. the choking feeling was getting stronger and i ran to the kitchen and grabbed a bottle of water... I had the whole bottle and the feeling didn't go away... i thought that's strange...

I didn't think much of it.. and it stayed till the next morning (yesterday). I managed my day by drinking lots of water... it feels better when i swallow water... I hoped the feeling will go away by the end of the day.... but it did not and at night i went to my GP who said i have soar throat. he gave me Claritin and that's it. I took it... woke up this morning.... no change at all.

now its almost midnight... just four hours ago i felt like it was getting worse... i can no longer laugh hard or talk freely the way i used to. i feared that it might get worse and tomorrow i'll have trouble breathing or faint.

I went back to my GP, this time i was examined by another doctor. she examined me and said there is no sign of soar throat and referred me to a throat doctor... the appointment can only be arranged tomorrow morning but i guess it won't be sooner than a week or two. she also requested blood tests which will happen tomorrow.

now, my question again... if it was a nudel or a thyroid disorder... and you went through the choking sensation... did you just felt suddenly??! Or was it a thing that happened slowly over time?

I do have one note...

Before I felt the choking feeling, i was having weird sensation that a strange smell is coming from my throat. This started on thursday so four or three days before the choking started. is this relevant?

Digestive Disorders :: Choking On Swallowing Liquids

I am a 34 year old female with a swallowing problem. I have had it for many years, it comes and goes. When I have any cold, flu or sickness it is worse and I choke so bad on liquid that I fall in the floor and can't catch my breath.I get scared after and I cry.I know this sounds crazy but I think for sure it will probably be how I die.I can even sip on liquids and it feels like I am going to choke. I have spit out liquids many times just because I couldn't swallow them.

Yes, I have stomach issues, but even on medication this problem never stopped. I have had tested on my throat ,I was even choking on the barium swallow and everything came back normal. It is my body however and I know there is a problem with my throat but no body believes me. I am tired of going to the doctors going through the same procedures 4 and 5 times and paying big amounts of money only to be told there is nothing they can do.I am at my wits end and feel hopeless. Can anyone explain this problem? Or am I alone?

Thyroid :: Selenium For A Month - Feeling Bit Shaky

So my doc said I was Vitamin D deficient and has put me on 5000 vitamin D3. Which is fine I've had to do that before. Then he suggested selenium which I got 200 because I couldn't find a 100 mcg of selenium. I've been on selenium for a month but I've been feeling a bit shaky. Can selenium do that? Some days I feel ok but a little nervous. My hands aren't shaky just feels like I'm shaky inside. Does that even make sense? LOL! I even started taking selenium every other day instead but I still have this feeling.

Thyroid :: High TSH, Normal Free T4 - Fatigue, Depression, Feeling Cold

I am a 51 year old female and had a physical last week with my general practitioner because it has been a long time. It included blood tests. One test was about the thyroid and I've got conflicting information about the result.

The report says:
TSH Reflex to Free T4
TSH RFLX is 8.25 - and is high, the normal range is shown as 0.40-4.50

T4, FREE
Thyroxine, Free, Direct - 0.8 - and is in range, range is shown as 0.8-1.8

I've done some research and it looks like this combination falls in the hypothyroidism range. However, my doctor says it is fine because the T4 FREE number is in range. There is no family history of thyroid problems. I'm concerned because I have some of the symptoms of hypothyroidism (fatigue, depression, feeling cold).

Does this sound right to those of you who have experience with thyroid disease? Should I see an endocrinologist?

Thyroid Disorders :: Leg Foot And Toe Cramps

i have my lab results, and the same goes for me my dr. changed my prescription from .5 to .75, i think .75 is to strong for me so i talked him into me alternating .5 one day and .75 the next. i did this for 60 days and felt pretty good, i had leg cramps but not as severe as now. i am back up to .75 because  of my lab test showing me to have very high numbers. its pretty much just my right leg cramping , you can actually see the muscle tighten up starting at my lower calve and climb right up yo my knee. my foot contorts and stays like that  for a few minutes , its unbelievably painful. what should i change, I'm willing to do anything .

Thyroid Disorders :: Will My Head Grow More?

I am a 17 year old male and I have a severe hgh deficiency. I was diagnosed when I was 12 and have been put on a shot for the past 5 years and it has helped a ton. I used to have a very small head because I was hgh deficient and even now I feel it is small. The circumference of my head is 21.6 inches and according to Google that's below average. I really hope it doesn't look small but I feel like no one will give me an honest answer. I am still on the shot and will be for 3-6 months. If my doctor sees no growth next visit he will take me off it. I see my doctor every 3 months for a checkup to see how much I've grown and stuff. After I am done with the shot I have to see my doctor a month after to see if I make enough hgh without the shot or I will get osteoporosis, but I want to know if my head will still grow to the average size which is 22 inches around according to Google even without the shot. Also my head has grown a ton in the past 6 months. In the best 6 months my hats have increased in size. Please help me. If you need to know im 5'9" also I take the hgh shot 6 days a week.

Thyroid Disorders :: High TSH And Low Free T4

I've been on Synthroid medication for 20 plus years and have done pretty well on it until recently.   This routine test showed a TSH level > 100 and my Free T4 at .24 which is low.   I've been placed on Synthroid at 300 mg and I'm waiting to see a specialist.  In the meantime, I'm wondering what does this means?

Thyroid Disorders :: TSH Zero, Normal Free T3 And T4

I've had Hashimoto's Disease for 12 years and started taking Levothyroxine.  For the past 8 years, I've been on a constant dose, and been very happy with no symptoms of hyper or hypo.  Recently I moved and had to go to a new dr, who is very upset about the low (almost zero) TSH even though my Free T3 and Free T4 were normal.  She wants me to totally go off all Levothyroxine for 6-8 weeks to "reset" my pituitary. I am very worried about what will happen to me if I did this.  I tried going down in dosage, but all my hypo symptoms (gained 10 lbs in a month, extreme lethargy, depression, etc.) returned.  Anyone out there have any ideas on what to do?

Thyroid Disorders :: Hashimoto's -TSH Below Zero! Safe?

I have an important question.

My last blood work from one mouth ago revealed a TSH of - 0.16. (ranges 0.3-4.5)
Though my levels of free T3 & T4 were midrange and maybe even slightly lower than they should be.
FT3: 3.30 (ranges 2.1-4.2)
FT4: 1.02 (ranges 0.7-1.8)

I'm on 112,5 levothyroxine and 12,5 cytomel daily dose.
Is it safe to have a TSH that low?
Can I even upgrade my meds to 125 levo a day? I still feel hypo and under medicated.
I did hear about the 'optimal' values between the ranges were a lot of people are on their best in their 'sweet spots'.
If the rule of thumb is that FT4 has to be 50% of the range and FT3 upper half to upper third, i's logical that I'm still hypo. This all being said, will my TSH drop even more when I go to 125?

I don't understand the link between TSH and the FT3 & FT4 results. How can I have such a low TSH and still not reach the recommended levels?
