Thyroid Disorders :: Small Goiter And Nodule On The Left Side - Normal Tests

Just recently I was diagnosed with a small goiter & nodule on the left side. The doctor ordered all of the tests (TSH, T4 and TPO antibody level) and everything came back normal. The biopsy on the nodule is normal as well. Benign and no signs of cancer. My concern now is regarding my goiter & nodule. If my test results are all normal, what caused it to enlarge? What do I do to shrink it? My doctor will not give me anything because he said there's nothing wrong with my thyroid. The functions are normal. It just enlarges for a reason sometimes.

Thyroid :: Probiotics - Goiter Went Away?

I was diagnosed with a goiter in 2010 and have suffered with severe depression, and anxiety since then but now it seems to have gone away. I went to my endo and she said she doesn't feel an enlarged thyroid and I don't feel it when I swallow anymore and I feel better with the depression and anxiety. What could have caused it and what could have made it go away??? No one made any connection to the goiter and the depression/anxiety. I was not diagnosed or medicated with anything. I made the connection which scares me because I knew something was wrong, but no one helped me...so I'm glad its gone at least for now.. I started probiotics about a month ago, could that be it?

Thyroid :: SubSternal Goiter ?

I have had an enlarged Thyroid since 2004 I have had regular blood monitoring and visits with my local GP who said it was quite normal and dismissed it quite a lot. I became pregnant in 2011 and a good midwife referred me as she thought it was quite large to an Endocrine. They done my bloods etc and picked up an underactive thyroid with antibodies. I began treatment on levothyroxine 50mgs and have been on it ever since. I had my last ultrasound review three weeks ago and got a letter through from my referring doctor today stating my thyroid was quite large and radiographer had suggested a chest x ray to check for substernal possibility? I am a little nervous.....I am waiting on additional appointment with endocrine to discuss treatment options. As I have been have a swelling and shrinking sensation of gland through day I am very active run two miles per day, and am gluten free etc. My last bloods where T4 15.1, TSH 3.59, Antibody level 34.

Thyroid :: Multinodular Goiter And Soy?

For the last year I have not been feeling myself tired fatigue muscle aches hair falling out small weight gain. I have just contributed to me being around the age of 50 and having a hysterectomy in the last couple years. My job is a little bit stressful as well so thought the symptoms were because of the stress. Last week I went for my annual checkup and the doctor noticed that my thyroid was enlarged especially on my left side. I went for blood work and I went for a ultrasound my blood work came back with in normal limits and the ultrasound came back saying I have several nodules on the left lobe. Because my bloodwork is normal he wants to send me for a thyroid scan at the hospital which I go in for next week. My question is has anybody had any side effects in using soy products and your thyroid? I have read that soy products specially in protein powders will affect your thyroid. In the last four days I have not used my regular protein powder in my smoothie in the morning and I have noticed a considerable shrinkage in my thyroid. Has anybody else had this experience?

Headaches :: Thyroid Grew Nodules And Became A Goiter

I suppose a little history would be fitting first...I've been hypothyroid since birth (born without thyroid function), and was placed on a regimen of Synthroid for years. From there, my thyroid grew nodules and became a goiter, and at the age of 23, had to be removed completely. Since then, I struggled on the Synthroid, and finally found a doctor who agreed to try me on Armour. At first, I seemed to do well on it. I've been on Armour for about 2 1/2 years now.

Over the past year, I've developed migraine- like headaches that completely incapacitate me. For the most part, these would come on a frequent basis but I could go about my daily routine without disruption...until about four months ago. The headaches became non-stop. There is no break in the pain (the doctors don't understand this concept- they keep calling them "episodes"). The intensity changes, but the pain is ALWAYS there. I've been treated for migraines, but the medication for it doesn't work, and the pain isn't quite the same as a migraine. It's very hard to describe...almost like a twisting sensation in my skull and across my forehead.

That's not all of it. The pain gets worse with exertion. If I try to go out and run a few simple errands or do some household chores, my body heat goes through the roof- along with a lovely fever and I'm done. I can't do anything else for the rest of the day because I'm in too much pain (from the headache AND body aches from the fever).

I'd love to say I'm making this all up. But would I really put myself through all the blood work, a lumbar puncture that went awry (yes, it was downright awful), and bounce from doctor to doctor? I finally found one who had a brain in his head that said "it could very well be your thyroid!"

The biggest problem I've had is that every doctor I've seen has said "your thyroid levels look fine!" But they've only tested my T4 and TSH...shouldn't they be testing my T3 as well? I know I'm no doctor but...

I know I should be under the care of an endocrinologist, but they are really hard to find around my part of town (at least one that's any good). I just want some other points of view here before I subject myself to more poking and prodding.

Thyroid Disorders :: Hands, Feet And Face Swelling, Joint Pain

I have had Hashimoto's for twelve years. Seems like my levels have never been "right".  I've tried Synthroid, Levo and Armour and nothing seems to keep my levels steady. I went to Dr four months ago with severe swelling in hands feet and face and severe joint pain and fatigue. My TSH was 34.  He switched me from levo to armour (90 mgs).  The first week I felt much better but started swelling again and had terrible fatigue.  Went back about two weeks later and he changed me to synthroid 150mgs.  The swelling got a little better but still fatigued and joint pain is always there.  I went to my gyno for yearly exam two weeks ago and they tested my TSH.  it was .05 so gyno lowered synthroid to 125 mg and told me to come back in eight weeks.  I'm feeling terrible again.. in bed today because of severe fatigue and joint pain and hands and feet are terribly swollen. Had anyone else had these symptoms with Hashimoto's?  I'm wondering if it's the medication that's making me sick.

Sciatica :: How To Cure Acute Pain?

I have been diagnosed with spinal disc herniation on L4 and L5 on my back + spondylolisthesis. I was relatively pain free for about a month until all of the sudden the pain came back a week ago, now stronger than ever. It's typical sciatica pain, shooting down pain from my right lower back all the way to the right ankle. When I sit down it helps but I literally can't walk for more than about 100metres at a time, the pain comes too much. I've already been out of work for the whole week and really can't afford more so I'm desperate for some relief.

I've been to the doctors a couple of times this week. So far they have given me: Arcoxia 90mg (tried that twice, no relief), Naproxen 500mg (no relief), Co-codamol 30/500mg (took three of these one day,no relief) and now I've taken Amitriptyline 25mg at nights. I've slept fine but it has not had any sort of an affect during the day. I haven't taken any of these together though, I mean I've just taken one medicine at a time.

If anyone has ANY idea what could help in this acute pain, I'd really appreciate it! Has anyone tried sea salt with their bath, how does that work? I've heard people have got some help of that. And next time I'm going to my GP (probably in a couple of days), any ideas what medicine I should ask for?

Vasectomy :: Acute Pain In Right Testicle And In Right Abdomen

I had a vasectomy 11 days ago. I rested, stayed off my feet mostly for a few days, used ice packs, all the ordered behaviors. My incision still hasn't healed well despite wearing compression shorts for 9 days. On about day 8 I started applying antibacterial cream and breathable sterile pad taped down over the incision to prevent infection (and was also on antibiotics for a sinus infection). There was no sign of infection, no visible sign of hematoma. But the incision remains a bit raw, like a split lip that seeps. The dissolvable stitches mostly came out within 6-9 days.

However, my right teste or epididymis is extremely sore still (I felt better from day 4-8 except when sitting a lot), swollen and riding high. When I sit upright for awhile at work, I also get an acute pain in my right inguinal area about 6" in from the hip bone. It feels like a nerve issue. It twinges and throbs when I stand and today is even making walking painful.

Any thoughts? Acute epididymitis? Sperm granuloma? Nerve damage? Normal recovery? I had a single-incision closed vas with excision, clips and cauterization.

I agree with the copious comments on the web -- the urologists need to do a FAR better job with the honest assessment of recovery. I was under the impression that this would all be largely resolved within 3-4 days. Instead, the past 3 days just keep getting worse with no clear self-diagnosis. I'm calling my urologist again tomorrow and insisting on a checkup....

Cataflam Effective In Treatment Of Acute Pain?

Herpes :: Pain Due To Acute Herpetic Keratitis

This is the rather scary title for Viral Cold Sore Infection (EYES). I have no idea where it came from as I have never had a cold sore ever. I only know that it is extremely painful. It started 12days ago,and I just thought I had probably got a bit of gardening debris in the eye and used Optrex to soothe it, By Thursday it was very sore bloodshot and the lids were a little swollen .So I rang the GP for an emergency visit I met a locum, obviously newly qualified. I explained that there was a lot of pain under my upper lid. She duly looked at my eye which she said was perfect .so ,i tried again saying it felt as though there was a razor blade under the lid She lifted the lid and said she couldn't see anything and to come back if it got worse It did get worse over the next Three days. so Monday morning I went to where I should have gone in the first place, the Eye clinic at the hospital  It opens at 8-30,I wa there at 8 as I know it gets very busy. Duly seen and given drops and a thorough  looking at ,and he told me the reasons and even bothered to show me the pictures ,looked like three, ( yes I have three of the blighters  squiggles gave me some eye drops and an appointment for next week. It is now Wednesday and eleven drops later....

Gastroenterology :: Acute Pain And Swollen Large Intestine

My 14 year old son was in the hospital for 3 days and they could not figure out what was wrong with him.  When I took him to ER, he had been vomiting and his diarrhea had blood in it.  They did a CT scan and told me he had to have surgery because he had appendicitis.  Then when referred to a surgeon he told us that it wasn't his appendix that his large intestine is swollen and therefore his appendix is swollen.  In the meantime my son was in so much pain the throwing up stopped however the diarrhea with blood continued.  They just started him on liquids and pain medication.  Then, they collected 3 stool samples to test for colitis, and different bacteria's.  Everything came out negative.  Then a GI doctor checked my son and reviewed all test and told us that he had food poisoning and that he would have to let it take it's course.  So, after 3 days they released my son from the hospital and told me to just give him Tylenol for the pain.  To make sure he drinks plenty of liquids and he has to be on a lactose free diet for two weeks.  Well my son is home and he is still in pain but the diarrhea has stopped.  I left the hospital frustrated because they ran so many test and could not tell me what was wrong.  They just said that he will be in pain for a couple of more days because his large intestine was swollen.  Can you help me or give me some follow up advice because my son still does not look well and he still gets sudden pains that come and go.  Could he have Crohn's disease?

Thyroid Disorders :: Will My Head Grow More?

I am a 17 year old male and I have a severe hgh deficiency. I was diagnosed when I was 12 and have been put on a shot for the past 5 years and it has helped a ton. I used to have a very small head because I was hgh deficient and even now I feel it is small. The circumference of my head is 21.6 inches and according to Google that's below average. I really hope it doesn't look small but I feel like no one will give me an honest answer. I am still on the shot and will be for 3-6 months. If my doctor sees no growth next visit he will take me off it. I see my doctor every 3 months for a checkup to see how much I've grown and stuff. After I am done with the shot I have to see my doctor a month after to see if I make enough hgh without the shot or I will get osteoporosis, but I want to know if my head will still grow to the average size which is 22 inches around according to Google even without the shot. Also my head has grown a ton in the past 6 months. In the best 6 months my hats have increased in size. Please help me. If you need to know im 5'9" also I take the hgh shot 6 days a week.

Thyroid Disorders :: High TSH And Low Free T4

I've been on Synthroid medication for 20 plus years and have done pretty well on it until recently.   This routine test showed a TSH level > 100 and my Free T4 at .24 which is low.   I've been placed on Synthroid at 300 mg and I'm waiting to see a specialist.  In the meantime, I'm wondering what does this means?
