Lipitor (atorvastatin) Causing Migraine Headaches?
I've been diagnosed with hyperlipidaemia and high blood pressure. I've started taking 20mg of Lipitor few weeks ago to help me maintain LDL and total cholesterol levels. My doctor who prescribed Lipitor told me that it should also help with my hypertension. But since I've been taking it I got a terrible migraine headache. I was literally unable to get up or to do anything. The migraine pain is especially severe during the night. I could barely sleep. I never had a migraine before, just regular headaches, but not too often. I also got diarrhea and really bad smell when passing gas. Sometimes I feel nausea and cramps in my stomach. I've read that ingredient of Lipitor called atorvastatin calcium could be a cause of migraine headaches and other symptoms I'm experiencing. My doctor is unavailable until January, so I discontinued Lipitor by myself because I think it actually caused a migraine. Has anyone had any experience with Lipitor and migraine headaches while using it?

View 1 RepliesBell's Palsy Or A Stroke?
My mother was diagnosed with Bell's Palsy on Sept 2nd, 1 week ago. She has left sided facial paralysis, but she also has COMPLETE left sided weakness. The left sided weakness started about 2 days after her face. The doctors have done CTs and MRIs with contrast and ruled out a stroke, but they do not know why she has left sided weakness. Has anyone else had complete left/right weakness with Bell's Palsy? Also since the diagnosis of Bell's Palsy my mother has been confused at times, her memory is horrible (can't remember her SSN now), has trouble saying what she is thinking at times, and is just NOT the same. Anyone with similar symptoms please help! The doctors are saying possible early onset of dementia??? My mother is 49. I have just never heard of all these symptoms with Bell's Palsy
View 6 RepliesCannabis :: Having Marijuana With Stroke
My spouse was (is) an alcoholic who quit drinking after 12 years but continued smoking pot, three times a day, everyday for now going on 40 years. He had a stroke one year ago, a growth on his thyroid which has expanded into his chest cavity. The stroke caused minor cognitive impairment, forgetfulness, inability to recall numbers, words and names. Perhaps anger management issues too.
The expanded portion of the growth measures 5 X 7 X 8 cm, long, wide and front to back. Dental infections also flair up regularly. Dental Hygiene is an issue. Surgery is eminent for the growths. With the news of the needed surgery, the regular, daily pot smoking has started up again. He stops smoking for weeks at a time, proof, he believes, that he is not addicted.
There have been other health issues, blood clots in lungs, chronic cough/ throat clearing, acid reflux, shortness of breath, overweight, high carb and high fat diet.
As I list these issues, I am not sure what the question is except, am I unreasonable to think this person could turn their health around if they stop smoking weed and eat healthier? It is hard to watch this behavior.
Acute Urinary Retention After Stroke
Friend had stroke end of jan. He's now having serious retention problems. Drs not sure if it is neurological or physical. He's trying to urinate every 10 mins with acute pain. If it's neurological I wouldn't have thought he was trying to void. He's had a urethral catheter in since stroke till a few weeks ago and now got a convince catheter. Problem has got increasingly worse over last few months and last week extremely worse. He's due to go into hospital on Monday if bed available for other treatment. Today though I may insist on him going down to a&e as the pain is now getting much worse. He's even on morphine for other issues and pain goes beyond this. Any thoughts?

View 1 RepliesAmitriptyline :: Showed The Symptoms Of A Mini Stroke?
Hallo - my husband was taken into hospital a few days ago with a ?heart attack - but that (thank God) was not proven. They said it could be angina. But the next day after having been given Amitriptyline he showed the symptoms of a mini stroke and I couldn't understand what he was saying because of slurred speech. The GP (when he was discharged) said it was highly unlikely to be a stroke and he blamed this drug - as did all the hospital doctors.
This is very odd to me and can I ask whether it could be true? He hadn't been on the drug prior to admission, so I don't know why on earth they gave it to him in hospital.
Stroke :: Blood Thinners After Blockage Is Clear?
Ok my b/f has now had a duplex ultrasound of his carotid arteries, and they are completely 100% clear. He also had an ultrasound scan of his heart and it is fine.
He had a stroke in June 2012 because he had a 100% blockage in a carotid artery. He's been on Coumadin since then.
Would it not be reasonable to ask the doctor to take him off the Coumadin? Do most doctors try to get patients to stay on it even though there is no longer any blockage?
Cyclizine Reaction :: Arm Blush Red And Stroke Like Feeling
It was administered intravenously . After less than 10 minutes, he experienced a frightening and vivid brightening of all the veins and capillaries in his arm which then caused the whole arm to blush red.
At the same time, he completely lost his ability to speak. He was unable to call for help or answer any questions when assistance arrived. He was distressed, very anxious and thought he had suffered a stroke.
Stroke :: Hit By Glucose Intolerance With Blood Pressure And Cholesterol
My mum had a huge haemorrhagic stroke in November 2011. It took a long time for mum to recover much of anything and was left completely disabled on her left hand side. To add to this she was left handed and had to learn doing most things the wrong way round. She has been attending physio, trying to learn to walk again and will finally be getting a splint to hold her ankle in place to make this easier for her. Is it just me or should this not have been done sooner? Anyway, to add insult to injury, she's been told she has a glucose intolerance, was given the information from this website as her leaflet to read and take action from. Yes my mum is slightly overweight but has been on a balanced low fat diet for years and not lost a thing, but neither has she gained weight. She has a glass of wine occasionally and doesn't smoke. She is on tons of medication to keep blood pressure low, pain killers as she is in pain daily and her cholesterol is 3. Apart from the exercise which is impossible to do more, what can I do? our GP hasn't bothered to make any further contact or offered any further advice. I only got an appointment for her because I screamed down the phone.. Not a good start.. I'm so frustrated with it all and the bit in the leaflet that says that if left untreated, there is a higher risk of stroke!!
View 1 RepliesStroke :: Stopping Blood Thinners For Dental Surgery
My father is 61 years old and has been on blood thinners since 2007. He has been taking a med with clopidogrel and aspirin since then. He has had multiple mild strokes. The doctor has warned that another stroke will be very dangerous. Recently he has had multiple tooth decay. A dental procedure to take them off needs to be done. He is on painkillers now which is okay to manage the pain for the time being but the procedure needs to be done. The doctors are asking him to stop the blood thinners for at least a week three days pre op and four days post op. The neurologist is saying that stopping the medicine might increase the risk of a stroke significantly. But he is also saying that the dental procedure is important.
I can post more details if required. We stay in India. If anyone could please help and give advice on what should be done. We feel very helpless in the situation and inaction is not a solution either.

View 13 RepliesMenopause :: Migraine Headaches And Pressure Headaches
I've been having migraine headaches, pressure headaches, dizziness and nausea. I kept chalking it all up to menopause. Because as most of you know, so many of these symptoms are menopause.
Last Friday, Jan 2nd at around 7:30PM my boyfriend and I were leaving a restaurant, suddenly I started getting shocks in my right leg like my leg was falling asleep, while I was walking to the car. This shocking feeling quickly radiated up my arm and into my head, all on the right side. My boyfriend quickly started toward the hospital. On the way I lost the ability to formulate sentences and words. I would say one sentence and a totally different sentence would come out. I would try to say one word and a totally different word came out. Being a former medic the only word I wanted to relay was "stroke". It felt like someone had tasted my right side. It was the most frightening thing I'd ever experienced and I was awake for the entire ride. After getting to the hospital I was in the ER for about 3 hours. Then sent to Neurology/Stroke ward. For the next few days I had a battery of MRI's, EEG, EKG's, CT Scans, Blood Work, Ultrasounds and a Spinal (Lumbar Punch). Within 6 or so hours I was able to formulate sentences and say words again. I forced myself the entire time. My right side started getting feeling back within a few days. I still have some numbness in my right hand and am experiencing peripheral neuropathy symptoms in my right leg and foot.
The neurologist found a mass in my brain. Thanks be to God that it is benign. I just found out yesterday that I am cancer free. However, they still don't know what the mass is. It could be a tumor or a jelly bean I stuffed in my nose as a child. (joking) But we won't know for a while. Also it might be inoperable too. I will be seeing the Dr on the 13th for an MRI Rx. In a month we'll do the MRI and see what has happened with this mass. Is the edema gone, has it shrunk or grown? Things like that.

Hi. Can you help me with something? In the sea of the heart pills and blood pressure pills, my wife has another medicine in her "collection". She was feeling bad and she went to see her doctor. He was not there, so one older lady received her. She told her that everything is OK with her but that she needs to take Atorvastatin for a while. What that means - for a while?
Can you tell me who is prescribed with this medicine and do you even have a idea what is the proper dosage?
