Shoulder Rotator Cuff Surgery :: When You Could Sleep In Bed Comfortably?
To all who has had rotator cuff surgery when did you feel that you could sleep in bed comfortably?
Im coming up to 5 weeks post op on the 6th, I'm mostly still in the recliner but if I wake around 4-am I have been trying to go to bed, I have a wall of pillows behind me so I don't roll on that side and I have a small cushion I put under my arm for comfort, I'm limited to sleeping on my right side but I have been able to grab an hour or two sleep, sling comes off on the 13th, how did everyone sleep when the sling came off?
Shoulder Rotator Cuff :: Frozen Shoulder - Constant Pain
I have a 'Frozen Shoulder'.
This was caused by an inoperative Humerus shoulder fracture because the orthopedic surgeon found an infection in my bone during surgery. ( I fell back on 10/6/14) Doctors were baffled how I ended up with an infection since I had no cuts and was in perfect health before I fell.
Surgeon put a drain in and closed me up. I was in a sling for 2 1/2 months and on IV antibiotics for over a month.
Dec 14 I started Physical Therapy, 3xs a week. Along with exercises at home. I have little ROM. Very stiff. Extreme tightness.
I have constant pain from the back of my shoulder to my elbow, bicep. muscles. The little knots are quite painful. I push, squeeze to ease the pain. Massaging the shoulder / arm eases it just for a bit.
Due to the infection that was found in my bone during surgery, three ortho surgeons said they will not operate on my shoulder.
Intensive therapy is all they said I need.
Ortho surgeon will not prescribe pain medication.
My primary care physician prescribed 10mg oxycodone which I cut in half. I only take a full pill when I have physical therapy. Scared what will happen when I run out of pills. Doubt my Dr will refill the prescription. (sad face)
I have tried Aleve, Excedrin, Advil, which doesn't help the pain. I even mixed them with benadryl to sleep. But that didn't help either.
Do to Medicare amount allotted for physical therapy, I can only go a certain amount of times. Which now, I only have a few more visits to go.
Been going to PT for about 3 months and haven't seen any improvement. This is really horrible!
PT said he will teach me what I can do at home and that I could pay $30 a visit if I wanted to.
But personally, I feel it would be wasting my money since I would be paying him just to rub my arm for 10 minutes since I do the same exercises at home. I bought a door pulley and therabands.
Shoulder Rotator Cuff :: Is It Torn?
Last year I hurt my shoulder. I am not sure of the exact thing that hurt it, but I think it may have been golfing. I work out heavily(always accompanied by proper stretching) but one night I had a little too much to drink and went to the driving range. That's when it started. For almost two years now I've had debilitating shoulder pain. It was excruciating . I put myself in a sling for 4 no the and started to try and stretch it out and work it out lightly. It took a year and the pain subsided but I am unable to work out or lift much with it. If I swing my arm around it pops and crunches. If I do anything rough with it the pain comes back. Well I was doing some lifting at work yesterday and today I'm back in the sling. First time in like 8 months. The pain happens when I lift my elbow up from the side. If I lift my arm up wrist up to the front without bending my elbow. Its terrible. If my wife falls asleep on that shoulder. Its excruciating. I can't stand it anymore. I'm a college student and a cook. I have no Insurance. I have to admit when I started stretching it and working it out a little (I looked up good stretches for rotator cuff injuries.) I didn't stick with it very long because I'm pretty sure something is seriously wrong with it that strengthening won't help.

View 2 RepliesPainful Catching In The Arm 18 Weeks Post Rotator Cuff Surgery?
if anyone here who has had rotator cuff surgery continues to have painful "catching" in the arm 18 weeks post surgery? I had a SLAP and labrum tear but only debridement during surgery because the surgeon felt the tears didn't need attention. PT has not resolved this "catching" issue in the upper arm which was one of the main reasons for surgery to begin with. I have had two MRI's (pre and post surgery). I have also sought a second opinion from a different surgeon who wants me to have yet another MRI, but this time with contrast.
View 2 RepliesShoulder Injury From Car Accident 4 Months Ago - Still Hurts
I was in a rollover car accident about 4 months ago and my shoulder hurt pretty bad right afterwards due to the seat belt. The docs took x rays but nothing on it. I had several weeks off from work and thought the pain was getting better. Ever since returning, the pain has come back and has not gone away. I finally went back to the doctor about a month ago and they prescribed me some ibuprofen and muscle relaxer and also referred me to physical therapy. Well, a month into physical therapy, the shoulder really still hurts. It's hard to lift my arm and do overhead activities. It's also hard to reach in the back and put on my coat for example. Any kind of pressure on it makes it sore and it feels pretty weak now. I was told from worker's comp to possibly ask a referral to see an orthopedic surgeon but I am not sure I want to go down that road. I am thinking of asking the doc to order an MRI.
View 6 RepliesOrthopedics :: Hip Pops And Hurts For Months
For over about two months now I have been having pain in my right upper leg near the joint. Better way to explain it is when you sometimes put it in a weird position it pops and kind of hurts. Well it's like that but all the time all day sometimes. Recently it makes getting into my car and crossing my legs a task. Also, I feel light headed a good majority of the day. The light headedness only started with my leg issue. I have tried stretching my leg and rubbing it maybe thinking it's a pulled muscle but nothing seems to work. Is this something I need to worry about?
View 1 RepliesBack Issues :: Right Buttock Hurts For Months
I've been miserable for months with my right buttock area hurting while seated. It has recently also started bothering my while standing or laying down. I seem not to notice it when I am active. It's making my life miserable. I feel a knot/lump deep in the buttock tissue by my sit bone. Also, 3 times this month my whole right buttock from low back to thigh has become swollen. My leg muscles on both sides twitch. I've had 2 MRI's that show nothing except mild arthritis in my low back. I fell hard on my right side and broke my tailbone 2 years ago but just started experiencing pain this past year. Here is what I have tried:
Stand up desk at work
Yoga
Ice/Heat
Multiple Chiro appointments
Seen ortho specialist who told me not to concentrate on the pain!!
2 months of PT which seemed to aggravate the issue
Pain management doc says ischial bursitis and gave me an injection but didn't work.
Naproxen in case it is muscle related
Gabapentin in case it is nerve related
High Ankle Sprain 6 Months Ago Still Hurts
I sprained my ankle 6 months ago REALLY bad. I jumped so high (+35") to block a dunk and there was a lot of contact in the air, than on the way down I rolled my ENTIRE ankle when I landed. I swore to god that it felt like it was broken, I mean I sprained my many times before but this one was by far the worst.
The ambulance came in because I couldn't move my ankle or put any weight on it what so ever and the pain was 10/10 non stop for almost 1 hour. They gave me 2 ibuprofen pills that reduced the pain a little bit to 8/10. They put me in some supported thing in my ankle as well. Then I went to the x-ray room and the Dr said that he didn't see a fracture. So, he said it's a regular ankle sprain and he gave me crutches and supported boot. I'm pretty sure it's grade 3 sprain but the Dr said it's regular sprain. After few months I went back and they found a fracture and they said I should see an orthopedic but unfortunately I can't afford it and I don't have a car.
In the first month and half I'v been in a crutches for 2 weeks and supported boot for another the entire first month. At the same time I was using RIICE regularly (Rest, Ice, Ibuprofen, Compression, Elevate). Than, I started to put weight on it with little pain. After that, I started the PT for almost a month that helped me a little bit to walk and do some light physical activities with no pain. Finally, I started to play basketball slowly and doing the PT exercises everyday as well. After few weeks, I started to play full court 5on5 basketball with no to little pain as long as I wear my ankle brace.
The problem is my ankle still swollen to this day after almost 187 days of the injury. My lateral movements have decreased tremendously, I can't get by any defender what so ever. My 1 leg running vertical jump decreased by at least 8". I feel like my ankle is only 60-70% to what it used to be. So, I went to PT again for another month with no improvement at all. What should I do? Is it over for my professional basketball career? I'v been selected to be in my national basketball team "the youngest ever did that" I'm willing to do what ever it takes to get back to what I used to be.
Frozen Shoulder Symptoms Last For Up To 12 Months
I was diagnosed with Frozen shoulder last week after having pain for 3 weeks. The pain seems to be subsiding, which is great considering it's only been 3 weeks. My concern is that is short lived and that the pain will return as Frozen shoulder symptoms last for up to 12 months.
Frozen Shoulder :: Steroid Shot Before Surgery?
My Orthopedic Doctor had to go on a leave of absence. Before he left I was scheduled to have shoulder surgery by him. The new Doctor assigned to me will not perform the shoulder surgery without a first giving me a steroid shot, My Doctor had advised me that the steroid injection would only be a temporary solution and it would just postpone the surgery I need in the end. What should I do, since I am refusing to have the steroid injection.

View 1 RepliesBone / Joint :: Pain After Bone Spur/arthritis Surgery On Shoulder
I had surgery on June 14, 2011 to remove a bone spur on my left clavicle and to remove arthritis near (but not in) my shoulder joint. It was the worse experience of my life. I was in constant agonizing pain for 2.5 months. Just for the record, I've had two ulnar nerve surgeries on my left AND right elbows and never even needed pain medication. This shoulder surgery apparently did not relieve any of my pain. I still have a dull aching pain through out the day starting in my neck (left side) to my shoulder, and down my bicep to my elbow. I still can not sleep at night, and through out the day while working my shoulder/arm/ neck is killing me. I continue to take an Naproxin and continue to rotate heat and ice. I did physical therapy for the first two months after surgery. My concern is that had arthroscopic surgery, and there was NO rotator damage so why is my shoulder still in pain? My shoulder pops when I do try to rotate it.. and often when I simply reach outward for something..I'm in excruciating pain. I'm a baker, so I am constantly lifting a 34-50lb metal mixing bowl and have to reach many times through out the day. There really is no way to not do my job duties and still retain my job. Any ideas why I'm still having this problem?
View 14 RepliesUterine Fibroids :: 9 Months On Esmya And Myomectomy Surgery
There are lots of discussions on here as to whether esmya tablets work. I took them for 9 months, and my fibroid reduced by 30%. I guess they may not work for everyone. I did have a monthly scan at the hospital, where the consultant measured the size. The biggest reduction was at the 6 week stage.
I did also have a think uterus and it appears the tablets also helped thin the lining of this too.
After 9 months, I must admit I was getting a bit disheartened as it didn't appear to be shrinking, and the consultant wanted me to take them for 12 months. I was referred for embolisation, however after meeting the surgeon, he said that myomectomy would also be an option for me, to remove the fibroid completely, as there would be no guarantee that embolisation would work for me, as it was unclear if I had more than 1 fibroid at the time. He gave me me a choice, and I opted for myomectomy, so glad I did.
I had a myomectomy, on 4th July, I date that I will always remember. Whilst operating they also found that I had a form of endometriosis, adenomyosis, so removed that too.
I am now nearly 11 weeks post op, still recovering at home. My surgeon said that I did have major surgery (not as straight forward as hysterectomy) I am able to walk about, still not doing any lifting, but I do still experience pains. They said that as long as I don't bleed, no discharge or swelling then it will just take time, however nobody seems to know how long.
I did rejoin slimming world after my op, and have continued to eat healthy, and my stomach is getting a lot flatter. I just thought I was putting a bit of weight on, getting a stomach, I am 43, old age etc, but have gone from 16/18, and now down to nearly size 14.
