Hyperthyroidism :: Pregnant With Overactive Thyroid

I have recently been diagnosed with an overactive thyroid with no previous thyroid problems. I was tested in 2014 once with normal results.

Recently in my 8th week of being pregnant my results came back as:

TSH <0.01 (reference 0.3-4.0 mIU/L)

Free t4 25 (reference 9-23 pmol/L)

Free t3 8.4 (reference 3.5-6.5 pmol/L)

I am waiting for an endo appointment and was wondering if there was anything else that should be tested (vitamin b12, D, carnitine, antibodies) or if there was anything I could do while I wait for the appointment. I am a vegetarian and from my other tests the doctor concluded my iron is fine.

Overactive Thyroid - But Under Active Symptoms?

I am 33 years old and have just been diagnosed with having OA Thyroid, but have symptoms of UA Thyroid. I have always struggled with my weight and bloating (from having food intolerances), but have recently gained a lot more weight than normal, despite eating sensibly, walking everywhere (as I don't drive) and swimming.

I have days where I feel really thirsty and have to drink lots and lots of water, unable to concentrate, have a husky voice and morning coughing/ gunk on my chest, rapid heart rate, anxiety, feel achey and exhausted all the time. I also have Fibromyalgia (was diagnosed in 2005). I used to work full time for 17 years, but recently had to reduce my hours to part time, where I constantly felt ill...and I have now had to leave work altogether.

What I don't understand is how I can have the symptoms of UA but be OA. The Doctor has prescribed me 5mg of Carbimazole to take 3 times a day. No Propranolol yet, but I have taken these before as I used to suffer with high blood pressure.

I am worried that I am going to gain even more weight on this medication, when I have already gone up nearly two dress sizes from being so ill. Is this medication usually only given for people with OA? Will the effects be reversed in my case, where I have UA? Are there many of you out there who have the same symptoms as me and who are taking this medication and if so, what has happened in your situation?

Hyperthyroidism :: Selenium And Zinc For Overactive Thyroid?

This is my second time having an overactive thyroid in about 4.5 years. The first time I was totally new to it and had horrible symptoms and took a few trips to A&E for the doctors to diagnose me. This time around wasn't feeling great and said i would go get bloods done to check my thyroid, as hadnt gotten it checked in maybe 2 years! So the first time I had it I was living in a different city in Ireland so i was seeing a different Endo, which opted for Block and Replace treatment, which I found really good - was on this for 18 months and given the all clear. This time around I am seeing a different Endo who would not put me on the Block and Replace treatment, so am just on 20mg carbimazole now the last month and 10mg for a month before that. Still not feeling great, have good days and bad days, but I just remember feeling a lot better when doing the B&R. So i have started taking some supplements too, Omega 3, a multivitamin and a selenium & zinc tablet also, has anyone else ever tried the selenium and zinc that could share their experiences? Or any other supplements that has made an improvement on their health and wellbeing?

Overactive Thyroid :: Stopping Carbimazole - Only Beta Blockers?

I was diagnosed with overactive thyroid 6 weeks ago, i was put on carbimazole and beta blockers. Initially i felt loads better and could actually function nearly as normal. the beta blockers were stopped after 4 weeks. after check up 3 days ago they have stopped the carbimazole completely and put me back on beta blockers as my thyroid is nearly underactive but my heart rate is far too high. Im now back to how i was before. tired, giddy, nauseous, sweating and shaking. I have a 15 month old son and struggling to function. Can this be good just stopping carbimazole just like that i m back to square one!

Thyroid :: Selenium For A Month - Feeling Bit Shaky

So my doc said I was Vitamin D deficient and has put me on 5000 vitamin D3. Which is fine I've had to do that before. Then he suggested selenium which I got 200 because I couldn't find a 100 mcg of selenium. I've been on selenium for a month but I've been feeling a bit shaky. Can selenium do that? Some days I feel ok but a little nervous. My hands aren't shaky just feels like I'm shaky inside. Does that even make sense? LOL! I even started taking selenium every other day instead but I still have this feeling.

I'm 21, And Depressed - Made Mistakes And I Regret It

The fireworks went off, its new year. I've never felt so alone and depressed. I'd been thinking about my life, and I can't stand it anymore.

Is it true that there can never be a second chance in life? I made mistakes and I regret it; I want to start anew, but life just doesn't seem to work that way. When a part of your life crumbles, the rest will follow. I am a college dropout since August, and my family just gives me hell. They mock me in every chance given to them, stating how useless and helpless I am wasting my life, and everything that I do is bad, useless and stupid according to them. My friends look down on me, and many of them take joy in my condition now.

I don't know who to turn to, or who to trust anymore. Everyone just seems to be against everything I do. I don't know how to pick myself up again, since everything I do is judged. I am very very sad inside, but I can't even cry. No one will pity me.

Amitriptyline Have Made Me Gain Weight

I've been taking amitriptyline for about a year for chronic tension headaches and i'm convinced they have made me gain weight. I've always kept an eye on my weight and i know how it can vary from day to day, but i always remained 2 lb's either side of my ideal weight.

Since taking amitriptyline i've gained over half a stone, I even gained weight while trying to lose it! I've been eating around 1200 calories a day and still nothing!

I have asked several times at the doctors about this, and they all say that amitriptyline is not known for weight gain, but when looking on the internet it says that it is a well known fact, so i am quite confused.

Fluoxetine :: Cipralex Made Me Gain 10 Kgs In 2 Months

I'm quite young (I will be 20 next year) and I started taking almost a year ago. I was on Cipralex but in 2 months it made me gain 10kgs. It made me even more depressed and I talked to my doctor about it, he gave me Prozac. Now I am eating healthy (I am also a vegetarian) and exercising, but the weight is still here. Will I be able to lose it? (I'm taking it for a month and a few weeks now, soon 2 months) should I switch again or try staying on it?

Cannabis Addiction :: Made Me Smart And Creative But ....

I'm 21 years old. I have been smoking hash/pot/cannabis/weed for a year now and I feel that it has changed me psychologically. I fell in love with the herb the first time i smoked it and started doing it regularly thinking it was harmless. Since I believe the drug made everything more interesting I started reading books, music, poetry art in an intoxicated state and enjoyed it quite a lot, particularly I made myself believe that all it did was make me more creative and smart . But without my knowing I started feeling that whether i'm sad or happy I needed to smoke pot. I started doing bad in college and messed up relationship with my friends and parents (although most of them don't know I had started smoking pot). Now I want serious help regarding this? I still believe i'm blaming the herb solely for this damage and that isn't true. But does anyone experience the same scenario? if yes how to cope with it?

Hallux Rigidus- Osteotomy Made It Worse

I am a 40year old woman. I have suffered from hallux rigidus for the last 6 years because of trauma.

Before surgery (which happened in april 013) I had tried all sorts of medications, injections, magneto therapy, you name it I have done it.

In April 2013 I had an osteotomy (NO cheilectomy) to correct it. After 10 months I can finally say the pain has gotten so much worse.

I can't do many things, my foot hurts even if it is not bearing my weight (not walking). Being so young I don't know what do do.
It is ruining my life, personal life (I can't go anywhere cause whenever I walk I am in so much pain) and professional life.

The doctor that operated suggested to do a cheilectomy or a fusion, but considering the result of this operation I am really scared any new intervention will make things worse.

Can anyone suggest a real expert in Europe? Or any other suggestion, I am really desperate.

Many thanks to all of you for reading my post, and thanks to anyone who would be so nice as to try and suggest someone or something.

UTI :: Overactive Bladder And Occasional Urge Incontinence

I am 50, male, and I have been poorly for a few weeks following a severe UTI, although I feel much better now than I was. Without going into the whole story, the pain I had was so sudden and severe that I had to be taken to A&E in an ambulance. I wondered if I had kidney stones, but I've now had a follow-up ultrasound scan of my kidneys and abdomen and this was clear. Had already had PSA blood test back in June which was also OK, so I don't think it is my prostate. I have no idea how the infection occurred and it is seems as if it was just one of those things.

I do have overactive bladder and occasional urge incontinence but I have never had a UTI before.

Other pre-existing conditions are high blood pressure, overweight and high cholesterol, also history of peptic ulcers and duodenitis,  as well as mental health issues, but nothing you would think would cause this specific condition.

I just wondered if anyone out there reading this post have had something similar or can help. I know UTIs are rare in men & I don't think I've quite got to the bottom of things yet. Has anyone else had any other tests other than ultrasound, and I wondered if they revealed anything more?

Anxiety :: Only Inderal? Terrible Tremors

I noticed tremors on my body since I was 12. But it was mild tremors that I didn't care about. But since November 2014 my tremors got worse and now I have tremors all over my body. For example, when I try to do abs my trunk starts to tremble, when I lift my legs against the gravity, they start to tremble a lot, when I try to smile my face trembles, when I'm with my friends and try to drink some tea from a tea cup my hand and my head starts to tremble, and I feel that my neck and my head will start to tremble if I move in a "No" movement, and sometimes when I am in a place with lots of people my legs starts to shake and I get very embarrassed about that and they start to shake even more. So I went to a neurologist and I showed to him the positions that I tremble and my situation, and he said that some people has more physiologic tremor than others (even though I think that I have essential tremor), and he had to give me something for the anxiety, but I tremble a lot, and when I'm cold my body trembles a lot (a lot more than normal people). He gave me Inderal 10 mg to take 3 times a day . But it's not working on controlling my anxiety. I also tried to take 20mg and it didn't work as well and I'm not having side effects too. But the problem is I get anxious because of my tremors and not the opposite . If I had no tremors, I wouldn't have a reason to be anxious.  I already went to the only 2 neurologists that I have on my city and only the second one gave me some medication. I really want this tremors to stop. I know he gave me that dosage because the anxiety makes the tremors worse but not even for the anxiety it's working. And I'm going to work out of my country with people that I don't talk and I will get very embarrassed with this tremors... So what should I do?

Blood Pressure :: Inderal To Labetalol

I'm a 64 year old male with high b/p and hypo thyroid problems. Been on Inderal 160 for 10 yrs or more along with losartan started last yr.. My b/p has been running around 190/95 in the mornings for the last several months. Dr. checked my thyroid and said it was ok and then told me to stop the Inderal cold turkey and start taking labetalol 200mg 3 times a day. Been on the labetalol for 3 days now and feel quite bad with dizziness, feeling of passing out sometimes, but haven't, headache, and tremors, along with some ear ringing. Tried calling the doctor to ask about these effects i'm having, but so far no call from him. Was wondering if this is ok to switch from the Inderal over to the labetalol the next with no weaning of the Inderal? Also my pulse was running in the 70s on the Inderal, but in the 80s and 90s on the labetalol. Should I keep taking the labetalol or switch back to the Inderal? Would that even be safe to do now? Any advise appreciated. I believe i'm going to stop the labetalol and go back on Inderal and losartan. I didn't feel near as bad as I do now.

Abrupt Withdrawals Of Stopping Inderal LA 80mg

I had to suddenly stop Inderal LA (propranolol) as they had stopped being made by AstraZeneca.

My Gp tried me on 3 others but they made me feel horrible.

Two weeks ago my Gp said to bite the bullet and just stop altogether.

Since then I've experienced horrible withdrawals.

My head feels like I'm drunk

I am getting funny feelings in my arms like inside shakes

When I sit or lay down my arms tingle then feel like creepy crawlies on them. Then I lose the sensation. They go numbish

My legs go all tingly then they feel heavy and numbish.

If I get up from sitting down or just walk a little around the house, I sit down and my heart is banging hard, not fast, just hard.

Can anyone relate to this after abruptly stopping a beta blocker.

I was originally put on them for aura migraines.

Oh and I have like butterflies in my tummy.

Essential Tremor And Anxiety - Inderal / Alprazolam?

I'm 19 years old and I have ET and anxiety because of that.

I went to my second appointment with my neurologist and I told him about my tremors and my anxiety. And that the dose I was taking (10mg Inderal 3 times a day) was not working. I was feeling no side effects or improvements on my tremors and anxiety. So this time he raised the dose to 20mg 3 times a day and he said that If 60 mg per day doesn't improve my tremors It's not worth to give me a higher dose. So, I told him If he could give me some medicine to take in anxious situations. He gave me Alprazolam 0.25 mg to take only in anxious situations in a maximum of one per week, because taking it in long term can affect my mental ability.

So, let me ask you some questions:

If 60 mg of Inderal per day doesn't improve my tremors, it means that's not worth taking a higher dose?

There is something alternative to improve my tremors If Inderal can't?

There is any anti-anxiety medicine that's not too strong that could calm down my anxiety and I could take it long term? (I only need to take it in 6 months or less depending on how I'm adapting, because I'm going to work for the first time outside my country for 6 months and I will feel very anxious because of my tremors.)

Since my doctor prescribed me Alprazolam 0.25 mg in stressful situations to calm down my anxiety, can I take a higher dose, like 0.50 mg If I feel that 0.25 mg doesn't get me more relaxed?

Anxiety :: Afraid Of The Things That Have Made Me Feel Scared In The Past

Does this sound like how anxiety works to you? I feel like I become so afraid of the things that have made me feel scared in the past. And, of course, with anxiety, the things that have made me feel scared form a very long list.

This then is what keeps anxiety going. For example, "once I had a panic attack while waking up, now I always feel scared when getting up in the morning".

Does this sound familiar?
