Pregabalin, Fluoxetine Withdrawal - Mirtazapine Symptoms
I have been taking fluoxetine on and off for roughly 3 years. I was put on them following the death of my premature baby, I had turned to alcohol as a coping mechanism for 4 years when I finally admitted defeat and tried antidepressants..
However, My doctor and I came to the conclusion about 4 months ago that the fluoxetine was not working, we noticed the pattern that a week before my period I was still becoming suicidal, anxious, withdrawn and emotionally unstable (longer periods without alcohol have enabled me recognise my symptoms better).
We decided I needed to be treated for the anxiety and I was prescribed 150mg of pregabalin at night and beta blockers as and when needed for the anxiety..
A month ago my doc recommended that I reduce from 20mg of fluoxetine daily to one every other day, however, I stupidly just stopped them!
Since this I stopped sleeping, became severely anxious and withdrawn, began having panic attacks, been snappy, angry, had headaches, felt like i've had flu, extreme lows etc.
Bcus of this I stopped the pregabalin as well as I thought these symptoms were bcus of them, as it was the only thing id been taking and it had been 4 weeks since stopping the fluoxetine so I thought that the fluoxetine couldn't be causing any problems, as it would be out of my system and the symptoms did not start immediately after stopping the fluoxetine.
So, last Sunday I was extremely suicidal, depressed etc, a friend took me to the doc on Monday who prescribed me mirtazapine 15mg for the first 5 nights (to help me sleep) then 30 mg a night thereafter.
last night after my second dose I slept for 16 hours!! I awoke today feeling shaky, tired, clumsy, weak, blurred vision, spaced out etc so I called my doc who has advised me to stop the mirtazapine as I was having a bad reaction and restart the fluoxetine as I may be having withdrawals!!
I feel like im back to square one (back on the fluoxetine) which doesn't even work!! I dont know who I am anymore, whether im withdrawing, actually anxious or goodness knows what. I don't want to be on any meds anymore bcuz I dont like the side affects but I also can't continue like this....
Mirtazapine :: Weight Gain On Mirtazapine 30mg
I have just started on the 30m Mirtazapine and it's my 3rd night taking them ans i have read up on a lot of different forums that there are patients gaining weight off these? well i would like to know what the odds are of gaining weight because i have always had problems with weight gain, i can never put on any weight, no matter how much i eat, i have a fast metabolism and i am wondering, will the mirtazapine surpass my high metabolism. also in some cases i've heard it slows your metabolism down too.. but it would actually be a benefit for me to gain some extra weight.
View 5 RepliesMirtazapine :: Tapering Off Mirtazapine - Spinning Myself In Circles
For the first time in a very long time, I'm finally in a good enough place to make the step in coming off my Anti-depressant. I've been on Mirtazapine 45mg for the last 4/5 years and before that a string of various of medications.
Despite my anxiety been kind of excessive at the moment, after a discussion with my GP, he was happy to let me begin tapering down the dose. The problem is with my anxiety I feel it mainly physically rather than mentally so it makes me a little oversensitive to any changes that take place in my body.
I guess what I am searching for is some reassurance so I can stop driving myself up the wall, exhausting google search on mirtazapine withdrawal. 6 nights ago I started my first reduction so 45 mg to 30mg. In all honesty it's not been that bad, a few waves of nausea, headaches and random aches and pains. Those I was expecting so don't mind too much. The trouble is that for the last 3 days, I've found myself a little short of breath for most of the day. It's nothing that's outwardly noticeable at the moment, but it's there and is slightly concerning. Has anyone else experienced this when tapering?
I'm kind of freaked out a little because one of my fears that's arisen since the mirtazapine is the that i will develop random allergies and my brain is wondering if I've suddenly developed an allergy to my meds (ridiculous, I know!) The other thing is that the rest of my family has had either viral chest problems lately so maybe I've just picked up that and it's a coincidence? Or it could just be the anxiety.
I'm totally spinning myself in circles at the moment so any wise words are most welcome at this point. If I know it is just withdrawal and nothing that can actually hurt me then I'm fine with whatever effects it throws at me.
Mirtazapine :: No Appetite After Stopping Mirtazapine?
3 days ago I decided to stop taking mirtazapine 45 mg but since then I have not had any appetite for any foods at all. Is this a normal symptom.
View 1 RepliesMirtazapine To Citalopram To Mirtazapine
I was initially on(30mg) for 8 weeks for depression and anxiety. And I did start to feel better, although the blurry vision and the derealisation side effects started to make me anxious again. I think the light head was the anxiety not the tablets.
Went back to work and made an appointment with the Doctor to see if there was another antidepressant with no side effects as I didn't think the Mirt was working.
He told me how to gradually come off the Mirtazapine and then to start Those days coming off the Mirtazapine were fine and the 3 days I took nothing I felt great again! Well what an awful reaction I had to the Citalopram ! Heart thumping, sickness, mind racing, pins and needles, total insomnia for 3 days and the anxiety attacks were awful! I actually phoned NHS Direct.
When I spoke to the Doctor , he said that I had a reaction and the tablets obviously didn't agree. In a knowing smile, he said that I should perhaps go back on the Mirt and that I came off them too quickly.
I am now on no medication , but can feel the awful anxiety still there from the Citalopram episode and am wondering if I will slip back to square one again if I don't take anything. The Doctor has given me a prescription for 15mg 1 week and thereafter 30mg. Perhaps the side effects weren't that bad and as the nurse said " only got bothersome because I was feeling better".
So I'm thinking that I will go back to the Mirtazapine and perhaps they aren't that bad!
Fluoxetine With Alcohol?
new to this Flu stuff. Have read the sheet with the tabs and it said nothing about taking it and still drinking alcohol so I am curious if this is a bad combination or just "not good".
Don't drink a lot but I do like the odd glass of wine with dinner.
Fluoxetine To Duloxetine?
I hope you're all making progress and feeling better.
I'll cut a long story short - I was taken off fluoxetine because I went really downhill. My Psychiatrist has given me Duloxetine which is an SSNI. It works on serotonin and nor.....?? I can't remember the spelling.
I'm reluctant to take it right now because I went on the forum for Duloxetine and haven't found many posts at all!! I think there are about 4-5 posts!!
Have any of you had this medication before? Any advice about what I should do? I don't mind the side effects, I'm just worried that my head's going to get messed up further.
Apart from all that, I feel a bit better having posted on here this morning cos I've not been on the forum for a while.
Fluoxetine :: Having A Blue Day
I'm about 6 wks on flu now and had at last a few good days this week, less nausea brighter mood, more energy -very welcome feeling.
Think having a blip today as feeling very sad and cried for first time in a while. I'm sure it's just a random 'not so good' day as a few tests over the last week have meant hospital visits, not eating before hand, taking meds different times and long days. So i'm trying to take it on the chin and hope tomorrow is better.
Fluoxetine :: Flu And Prozac Insomnia
I am really struggling with sleep at the moment .... i am finding that i get off ok, but then wake up at around 3 am and then find it really hard to drift off again.
I went to the GP this morning as the lack of sleep is really affecting me - I can't concentrate, my memory is shocking and I feel so lethargic. I did wonder if it was my depression but the doc explained that I have 'Prozac Insomnia'. Great, I thought - I'm not imagining this! I had hoped that she might prescribe me something to help me sleep - but no, i came away with some leaflets and the ever welcomed suggestion to 'hang on in there'.
I have been on Flu for about 5 weeks and although i do feel slightly better, this not sleeping is knocking me back. Feel like all my progress has been undone and I'm at my wits end ....
Fluoxetine :: 20mg Or 40mg?
This is my 2nd wk on flu and can tell im going to stick with it & haven't had much side effects, i was on sertraline that made me very ill for 4 weeks & doc put me straight away on 20mg flu so i suppose i had some benefit,
I feel alot better but still have the low levels of anxiety as u has took the edge of, im still finding it difficult to go out and socialise again & to go back to work, i think i may be ready for 40 mg as iv come to a stand still?
Fluoxetine :: How Long To Kick In?

Am now on day 7 of the medication. Very bad palpitations and numbness.
Fluoxetine Has Stopped Working
I am on week 8 on 20mg of flu. I was feeling EXCELLENT back to my old self even forgot I felt sad at one point..I thought it was all over.......5 days ago I started getting anxiety again, feeling depressed and the "doom" feelings again. Has this happened to anyone? Should I ask Dr to up dose is that the only solution?
View 11 RepliesFluoxetine And A Few Drinks (alcohol)
I have been taking flu now for 9 weeks and still have good and bad days. I am very anxious at times and feel impending doom which isn't helpful when I lead a busy life ie full time job and have a young child!! I still want to enjoy myself and although I don't need to I wouldn't mind a few glasses of wine with my girlies every now and then to relax and have fun. I'm wondering should I miss my 20mg flu capsule the day I want to have a few drinks?
View 3 RepliesFluoxetine :: Crying Spells
Upped my dose of flu to 40mg almost 1 month ago and I thought I was leveling out, as last week I felt very good, but yesterday I had crying spells most of the day, and I feel somewhat like that today, only not as bad. Has anyone else experienced this when they thought they were about over it and leveling out?

View 1 RepliesDepression :: Fluoxetine + Alcohol
I've been taking Fluoxetine for 2 weeks now, had been warned of the nausea and downs by my GP...the few days have felt a tempting of how I should, I know its early days but I feel my dosage should be increased but that's beside my question. Really its, I 'enjoy' at the moment a really good lonely binge on a Friday night of as much as I can drink, I'll listen to music and just be me its the only therapy I'm escaping too at the minute.....has this affected your pills do you know? I know it says not to drink alcohol while taking fluoxetine but all drugs say that so obviously I've went against them, I just don't really want to put myself back with my course of anti-depressants yet I need these drinks so much right now.
View 3 RepliesGabapentin And Fluoxetine (prozac) Together?
I'm currently trying to wean myself of gabapentin was given them for my hip op, nerve pain but i have been taking them now because of the high i get and that they seem to make my depression and general state of well being much better....but i was prescribed flux 5 days ago now and wondered if it is ok to take both? i take flux at night and gabapentin through the day. My only side effects with the flux is nausea/sick feeling and feeling spaced out and a bit disconnected but the are seeming to help me cope better with the depression/anger issues i have.
just wanted to know about the gabba as they are addictive and im finding that withdrawing off gabapentin is making my depression state of mind worse?
Fluoxetine :: Low Sex Drive And Desire
I have recently started this medication. Now what I don't understand is the fact a lot of the side effects I have read up about all seem to be negative etc. Like mood swings and stuff. One of my worries was before I started the drug I had extremely low sex drive due to my depression. But a side effect of the drug is you can lose sexual desire etc. How is this drug meant to help?
