Menopause :: Insomnia Due To Magnesium Supplement In Perimenopause

I have been using magnesium and calcium for a while now, they work well together.. However i switched to calcium and Vit D ( Natecal ) chewable ..

no longer having the magnesium ...

then i started effervescant magnesium ... i always take this by dropping in a glass of water, they range from lemon - orange flavour etc..

what I want to share is, as I have been an insomniac all through peri etc, I have  found that the effervescant form of magnesium, that you fizz and drink has totally relaxed me before sleep, i find myself in a lovely relaxed mood, and ready for slumber ...

Since this little difference, i have been researching magnesium and it also helps, tightened muscles, headaches, aches and pains..

worth a try ugh ? Drink it 30 mins before you go to bed ...

Magnesium has many benefits to good health, one of them being its action as an effective natural sleep aid.  James F. Balch, M.D., author of Prescription for Nutritional Healing, writes: “A lack of the nutrients magnesium and calcium will cause you to wake up after a few hours and not be able to return to sleep.”

Chronic insomnia that occurs with frequent night time awakenings is one of the main symptoms of magnesium deficiency.

On the other hand, a high magnesium diet has been found to be associated with deeper, less interrupted sleep. This was proven in a study done by James Penland at the Human Nutrition Research Center in North Dakota.

Mildred Seelig, M.D., the leading medical researcher on magnesium says: “Many people needlessly suffer pain – including fibromyalgia, migraines and muscle cramps – because they don’t get enough magnesium.”

According to the University of Maryland Medical Center web site, inadequate magnesium also appears to reduce serotonin levels in the brain.

One study found that magnesium was just as effective as an antidepressant drug in treating depression.  In addition, researchers at Stockholm’s Karolinska Institute reported that for every 100 milligram increase in magnesium intake, the risk of developing type-2 diabetes decreased by 15 per cent.

Other studies have shown that people with migraine headaches have low concentrations of magnesium in their body.

i intend to post more magnesium finding as i find them

this I totally second this info above as I really noticed a difference after taking effervescent magnesium before bed , and my curiosity lead me to find out more ..

Menopause :: Hot Flashes Gone At 58

I'm not sure what happened but the hot flashes that have been relentless for about four years and up to three an hour have gone! It's been about a week now, I noticed one day that they diminished and today not one! I'm sleeping much better and I am in a great mood. No more feelings of doom . I have my 58 th birthday coming soon. Do you think I'm done? Is the nightmare over? I hope so . I am having sore breasts and I'm not sure why. I haven't had a period for about two years. Fingers crossed that they don't come back . I like this feeling, it's like the old me is back.

Menopause :: No Hot Flashes - Perimenopause?

it has become so hard to see if i fit for peri-menopause as I do not have hot flashes at all but i seem to have all else creeping up on me. lots of women say if you don't have the hot flashes then it can not be peri...So really what is the best way to know that your entering that stage of life or not..i read alot of posts where all these woman have all these tell tale sign of menopause and instead of there doctor taking there age into consideration for menopause they all run to do all kinds of tests and this and that..is it really that difficult to decipher when in menopause or not? I'm so confused and since I'm 42 my doctor wont even talk to me about it regardless that my mother and her went into full menopause at 45 yrs old..i just hate to be running to the DR and getting all frustrated when some of my symptoms or all are peri-menopause related.

Menopause :: What Are The Hot Flashes Symptoms?

I will be turning 47 next month. I have have been bleeding for a month now, mostly normal flow and a couple of days of spotting. Have to wear some sort of pad everyday. I did skip 2 months prior with just a couple of days of spotting. The last couple of nights I have woken burning up. I mean, I feel like I could fry an egg on my stomach, like my body is laying on a layer of hot coals. It's horrible! This lasts throughout the night. Eventually, the back of my neck will be dripping in sweat. My question is, could this be hot flashes? Can they be so painfully hot? I have also felt soooo tired and achy, joints and muscles. I can't imagine dealing with this for years.

Menopause :: Hot Flashes During Your Period?

Is this possible? My period just started today. It's been an awful day (month, really) with horrible indigestion, horrible cramps, and for the past hour or so I feel an intense heat rising in my face and spreading through my neck and chest, then it goes away. I've been wondering if I'm getting hot flashes because this is fairly new. But also, can they happen now...while I start my period?

Menopause :: Hot Flashes - How Long Do They Last?

How long do they last? Does anyone have them without the redness in the face. Has anyone just tended to be hotter all the time with occasional worsening? I suspect that is what is happening but I wanted to see what others experiences have been. I've been joking that these personal summers are making coats extinct!

Menopause :: Hot Flashes And Dizziness

I've been experiencing more night sweats lately (in the past two months or so), and have (finally) begun having what I think are hot flashes during the day (although they're more like "warm" flashes...I don't get terribly hot)....has anyone else ever felt dizzy during a hot flash? I was standing up in my office a few minutes ago and think I had a hot flash and then I felt really woozy....another weird (?) symptom I seem to be having is that I become very cold after a "flash"....am I the only one feeling this way?  I'll confess that, although I've felt dizzy/lightheaded/off-balance on and off for almost two years, this morning was a bit more extreme and it terrified me...I don't want to go back down the road of full-blown health anxiety (I've wasted too much of my time with Dr. Google over the last two years), but it's tough to not be afraid when these symptoms appear....any thoughts/comments would be much appreciated! (I should mention that I'm 46 years old and haven't had a period since last October....my FSH level was 124 in November, and my estradiol was at 24...other than vitamins, I'm not currently taking any medications)

Menopause, Hot Flashes, And Dizziness

I'm almost 49, and entering the vast world of menopause.  I've been in perimenopause for awhile and there have been changes, but after a battery of tests by my Dr which confirmed there is really nothing wrong other than 'THE CHANGE', I was encouraged to keep on keeping on.

So up until today, I have just had the hormone surges, bouts of crying, and periods that make no sense at all.  Really not so bad.  Today, I was out in the sun, and suddenly I was super dizzy, like I had to sit and get something cool or fall over.  I found a shady spot, but the only way I could get rid of the dizziness was to pour cold water over me while lying on my back.  Yes, I was suddenly way too hot.  In about 10 minutes, I could get up, get to the car, and drive home.  Now I am lying down with a fan on me and I have a headache.

It's been a while. I was feeling pretty good but now the symptoms are BACK! Lately, as well as having anxiety, I have been getting these weird chills. Sometimes I feel the cold chills all through my body, sometimes I just feel it in my head. I don't want to worry that I have some disease (as a am an anxious worrier). Has anyone experience these? These are new to me. I have had hot flashes with cold chills after, but these are chills with no hot flashes!

Surgical Menopause After Hysterectomy - Hot Flashes

I was 28 when I had my total hysterectomy, I am now 35 and the hot flashes are still winning:(  I went from having hot flashes every 45 minutes on the dot, around the clock, to having them every few hours around the clock.  I refuse to take HRT.  Regardless the only thing that has helped so far is Black Black Cohosh, herbal supplement.  I recently (December 2010) decided to venture into the world of acupuncture.  So many people says it works to completely eliminate or help with hot flashes.  When I went to a very reputable acupuncturist she told me it may not help because I've been having them for so long:(  To date I've had 5 sessions of the acupuncture.  No relief, in fact maybe more intense hot flashes.  I am still being hopeful and continuing treatment.  The other medicine my doctor gave me right after my hyster was Effexor.  That medication is an anti-depressant.  It is supposed to help with the hot flashes also.  I'm guessing due to the fact that it gives me decreased sensitivity to stress!  I've asked every doctor I've encountered how long will the flashes last?  Not one single doc can give me an answer.  Kinda absurd eh!  Well hopefully some of the things I've shared can help someone else.

Menopause :: Intense Hot Flashes Every 20-30 Minutes

I am 56 years old and have had hot flashes for about a year but for the past months they have been intense every 20-30 minutes and am going crazy. I am soaking wet and cannot sleep due to these episodes. I took I-Cool and it worked for awhile then just stopped working. I tried it again for 3+ months and it just didn't work again for me. I have been prescribed Gabapentin which doesn't help. So now I am trying Extra Strength Estroven (1 per day) and Black Cohosh (2 per day) and have been taking them for 5 days now with no relief yet. This is so debilitating as I don't go out much and cannot wear much in the way of clothing or even shoes as I get sooooo hot and sweaty.

Menopause / Hypothyroidism :: Dizzy With Hot Flashes

I have been post menopausal for 3 yrs now.  I am also hypothyroid and my thyroid levels have been off for a couple months and we are trying to get those back to normal.  In the past 8 months I've been having dizziness and my ENT says I have vestibular dysfunction and will be starting rehab therapy to help with it.  It's a feeling of rocking sensation when I'm sitting, standing, walking, I have it quite a bit.  In the past month or two i've noticed when I have some hot flashes and night sweats, not everytime  but more than before I will get very dizzy and off balance as the hot flash is coming on, sometimes they only last a few seconds, but today it seemed to go on for mins, so of course my anxiety set it.  Now that the anxiety is here the dizziness continues just at a lower level.  i had to take a xanax to get myself to calm down.  I used to have just the normal hot flash and then this started, also the flashed are more intense sometime to the point of just plain soaked, this happen during the day and a lot at night, my night sweats have gotten to the point where i sometimes have to change clothes.
