On And Off Pain After L4/L5 Microdiscectomy And Laminectomy

I had L4/L5 microdiscectomy and laminectomy about 4 months ago. I had on and off low back pain for 6-7 years but it became unbearable couple of years back. Prior to surgery I had buttock pain and I couldn't walk or stand without pain. I am recovering pretty slowly. I am off pain meds and I walk 45 mins a day and do gentle back stretches as advised by the surgeon. The surgeon said that I had a big herniation and he removed about 60-70% of the disc. Is it common to have that much removed?. Will I be able to recover fully or will i need more surgery like fusion in the future. I am just 27 yrs old and I don't want to live in pain.

Sharp Nerve Pain In Groin Private Area - Vaginal Pain And Itching

Does anyone that has back problems have sharp nerve pain in their groin private area? I have had back problems for years and sometimes would get a sharp pain up my vagina. After a bad muscle strain in my back and using the elliptical machine I've had twitching and burning all over but also in my private area. Like around my **** it will twitch or vibrate, and then I will get the sharp shooting pain up my vagina and around my butt. I notice it more if I bend over that's why I thought it might be my back. I remember when the stabbing pain started I thought it was a female problem and my OBGYN said everything looked normal with my cervix and my paps have always been normal so she didn't know. She seems clueless.

Hip And Groin Pain

i have been suffering from pain in my hip for a number of months now. it started like sciatic pain in my right which affected the hip and made me limp after sitting. this then improved and the left hip started to hurt. it started just on the outside feeling sore and now is so painful after sitting and trying to then move or on a morning its stiff but always aches like toothache into the hip joint, behind and the groin which sends shooting pain down the front of my leg. i am limping most of the time and the pain is worse after resting but never truly goes away. doc has sent me for a hip xray and given me anti inflammatory meds which i take alongside co codamol. to be honest this does not really touch the pain but dulls it a little. whether this is anything to do with this a few years ago i was told i might have fibromyalgia because i am very fatigued most days have pains in neck and shoulders ( now not too bad) which resulted in electric shock like pain in head and numbness. I was also told i had inflammation in my bowel after a camera (requested due to some bleeding) but they did not know what it was and then decided ibs :/. there is a number of things going on but at 42 the hips are really starting to get me down.

Prostatitis? Pain In Right Testicle - Spread To Groin

For about a month now I have had pain in my right testicle that spread into my groin and hip area. Also, occasionally I feel pain and discomfort in my upper right abdominal near the liver. This all started the morning after having unprotected sex but I went to the doctors and std test came back negative as well as the urine test came back negative. I have been having trouble getting solid erections since this day as well. What could be causing these problems?

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome :: Constant Groin Pain

I have had various health issues in the latter part of my adult life but one thing that has always remained constant throughout is my groin pain. It does come and go but, in recent years, has become a real, persistent pain. I think I have learned to live with it until I was recently Assessed as having ME/CFS.

My support suggests I self medicate as all pain uses energy!

One specialist I saw suggested it was ACNES and gave me a cortisone injection which worked for a short while.

I have asked my doctor to do a scan for me just to see if it is related to my ovary removal 3 years ago.

That brought up nothing.

recently had blood tests done and no concerns there.

has anyone experienced this pain, just in one groin, not both; the right side ??

I would love to hear from anyone who has any thoughts on this or experience of it themselves.

Prostatitis? Groin, Hip, Lower Back And Abdominal Pain

6 weeks ago whilst at home relaxing I noticed a short sharp twinge down the right side of my scrotum. Within a few days this had developed into pressure type dull ache up my loin towards my kidney. I'd say about a 5/10 on the pain scale. I tried to ignore it but it wouldn't go away and my anxiety started to grow. Shorty after I became quite ill and developed a mild fever. No discharge or pain when peeing tho.

I visited my doctor and she thought I had a UTI and gave me trimethoprim for 1 week. She sent my urine off to the lab. A couple of days into the course I felt a bit better but by the end of the course it still hadn't shifted. I'd say about 3/10 on the pain scale at this point but the anxiety had gone through the roof because when i went back to the doc they said there was no water infection. I thought I might have cancer, aids and all sorts . I was sure I had aids and wrote a will (please don't laugh).

I plucked up the courage to go to the sexual health clinic for blood and water tests. To my relief I got the results a week later which we're clear. During this period i also noticed i was having a lot of gas and sometimes id go to the toilet for a no.2 and feel like id have to go again an hour later. I then went back to the doc for an alternative diagnosis but I was a different guy and he was useless. Just said I've got a groin strain which I thought was rubbish because I hadn't done any proper exercise in about a week before feeling the first pain. I also fail to see how a groin strain can cause gas and some minor upper abdominal pains which I'd also noticed (maybe caused by anxiety who knows).

I started to think did the sexual clinic miss something? Have I got aids (a test can sometimes give a false neg)? I've been constantly on the web scaring myself.

By week 5 I'd had enough. I was having groin / pelvic / lower back / thigh pain. About 3/10 on the pain scale. I decided to go to A&E. the doc there examined me for a hernia and that was negative. I suggested prostatitis because it seemed possible giving my many hours of research and he didn't dispel it but I got the impression he couldn't be bothered to perform a rectal examine. I think he took the easy diagnosis of a groin strain and after giving me pain killers told me to come back in 2 months. Arrrghh!

To summarise Do these symptoms sound like prostatitis?

1. Groin,hip,thigh,lower back ache

2. illness earlier in the process and a general feeling of unwellness for about a month

3. some minor upper abdominal pains

4. also noticed ejaculation is not quite as satisfying (possibly anxiety)

5.depression

Urinary Incontinence :: Bladder Okay - Pain In Pelvic And Groin Area

I have been suffering from urinary incontinence for a few months. I was given blood tests, which came back clear, although one showed a slight problem with my kidneys. I had a bladder scan and this showed that my bladder is working okay, but is taking a while to fill. My doctor has never examined me, she justs asks me what's wrong and recommends medication. I told her that I have pain in my pelvis and groin area. She said okay I'll prescribe you detrusitol and wear a pad and we'll see how it goes. Does anyone have any idea what might be causing the incontinence. I'm only 39 and male and I am generally quite fit. I worry about people being able to see my pad and this is really getting me down. The incontinence happens nearly every night and sometimes during the day. The idea of being on medication and wearing pads for a lengthy period is making me anxious and depressed.

Severe Low Back, Thigh And Groin Pain After Radical Prostatectomy

Does anyone suffer with the same severe low back, thigh and groin pain as I have been for the past seventeen months following my radical prostatectomy. I am fine for the first twenty minutes of walking or general activity before the pains starts and increases in intensity if I don't stop.  I have had M.R.I's and scans. The spinal consultant said it is caused by a lymphocele which I have had drained once, but urology don't think this is the cause. Can anyone offer any suggestions please. The nerve pain can get unbearable.

Spinal Cord :: Synovial Cyst Is Groin Pain - Symptoms?

I was diagnosed as having a synovial cyst by a neuropsychiatrist. I had a procedure where he went in and drained the cyst along with that I had a steroid injection. Apparently he did not get much out of the cyst. The pathology report came back negative on what he did manage to get out.

On day two post procedure the pain starting coming back. Each day the pain level increased to where I am now a level 8 and sometime 9 and can barely stand the pain. My lower right back just above the buttock feels like there is pressure and is very achy. The deep achy pain goes into my right buttock and wraps around the lower groin area. The achy pain goes down my right leg and into my foot. It is a pulsating deep ache and I can hardly stand it. It also feels numb at times and I get pins and needle tingling. When I get up from laying down or sometimes sitting (when I can sit) I get this sharp excruciating pain in my right groin that doubles me over. I have to stay still in the doubled over position to let it subside before I can straighten up and walk. Sometimes the groin pain just hits me out of nowhere when I am standing.

On my follow up visit with my physiatrist he recommended I have a consult with a neuro spine surgeon. My appointment with the surgeon is in a couple of days. I feel very fortunate to get into see this surgeon who is very hard to get in to see. He is rated as "one of the best" in a very large healthcare system where I work.

I am taking 1500mg of gabapentin along with 6 ibuprofen a day. I am also taking hydrocodone. I fight the pain and only take on the average one pain pill a day because I don't like the groggy feeling.

My question is, has anyone else with a synovial cyst had all of these symptoms? Is the groin pain related to the compression on the nerve from the cyst. I appreciate any feedback and would love to hear from someone who has had these symptoms.

Urinary Incontinence After Laminectomy W/bone Fusion?

After being diagnosed with lumbar spinal stenosis in 1992 and undergoing several other treatment options that were not successful, I had back surgery, a laminectomy w/bone fusion. I then developed urinary incontinence, which is still a problem for me. and also lost my mobility. I am now spending most of the time in a wheelchair, although I am able to use a walker for very limited distance walking. I still suffer from back pain but do get some relief from a prescription pain med. I just wondered if anyone else had developed urinary incontinence after having back surgery?

Repeated Discectomy And Laminectomy And TLIF Fusion Of L5/S1

Back in 2012 after 2 years of severe sciatica that was treated with painkillers, I finally got an MRI which showed disc herniation at L5/S1, I had a microdiscectomy & the surgeon said it was a difficult procedure as the disc had calcified. I did however have some relief & a huge reduction in pain.

After about a year the pain had increased to the point my mobility was affected & I was referred back to my neuro, he carried out MRI & another micro discectomy & unfortunately this actually left me immediately in more pain.

So I had another MRI which showed again more herniated disc trapping my nerves, this was only 6 weeks after my 2nd op, my surgeon said he could do no more for me but he then referred me onto a colleague for a TLIF fusion of L5/S1.

Which was done, but again no significant improvements so after 12 weeks my neuro sent me for more MRI & CT scans, this showed halo's around my fusion screws, crowding at L5/s1 & a post op collection around the incision site, he prescribed 6 weeks antibiotic course & re-did the scans.

There was no change to the collection & he then decided he would need to operate again in case of infection.

When he operated he found no infection inside but there was 'bugs' in the fluid collection in my back.

He said the fluid was seroma & he was confused as seroma fluid never has bugs in it?

Whilst he was in my back he did yet another discectomy & laminectomy, he said he did not check the fusion itself as it meant disturbing scar tissue.

At this point he said nothing more can be done for me.

This is heartbreaking to me, I'm 39 yrs old, I have a physical job as an electrician & I don't want to be sat about or lose my job.

My pain is still extreme in my right leg & hip, my buttock still feel numb & my calf feels tight & achy.

My last op was only a week ago but after 4 surgeries on one small place, I still feel in excruciating pain & it feels like there is no light at the end of the tunnel, my back around the incision site is still swollen like it was before this surgery & I'm worried the fluid is coming back, the build up of that fluid had caused problems on my left side & had not got any smaller in the 5 months between the surgeries.

Laminectomy And Synovial Cyst - Reviews Or Feedback?

In January 2013 I started having left leg pains and started taking ibuprofens or store brand pain killers. Over the last 3 months the pain has become chronic, numbness in my big toe and foot, tingling, and pain in my buttock. This is only happening in my left leg. To make a LONG story short. The MRI showed a cyst pressing against my spine causing the pain. Initially my chiropractor thought is was a disc issue causing my sciatic nerve issues. My neurologist suggested a laminectomy Surgery however his concern was if I need fusion. I had an x-ray done that indicated there is some slipping. The neurologist gave me his best guestimation of how long that area of my back would last without the fusion. If he could have given me a high % that the fusion is necessary I would be at peace with it. Decisions, decisions. I was told the recovery is about 4 -6 weeks and longer with the fusion Do you have any knowledge on either procedure?

Failed Laminectomy And Removal Of A Synovial Cyst?

Hello,
I'm new on this board. On October 1st 2015 I had decompression surgery (L2-L4), a laminectomy and removal of a synovial cyst that was very high up on the spine (L2)- it was compressing the cauda equina in a bad way. Since then I have had a lot of nerve pain in my groin (both sides), hamstrings, plus sciatica down my right leg from the hip to the toes (according to the neurosurgeon, this is a 'small hernia' due to stenosis and a trapped nerve on S1/L5/L4 that he will operate on when the pain gets too much for me). Not sure if the sciatica is related to the cauda equina syndrome, but imo the cause of both is spinal stenosis. The nerve pain got less throughout the months (except for the sciatica) but the last weeks it's returning again more, on both sides. I had an MRI done two months ago for the sciatic pain and the doctor saw 'something' on the L2 facet joint that could be a new synovial cyst, or else it's scar tissue, he wasn't sure. My gut feeling is that the cyst is growing back and pressing on the cauda equina again- or could it be that i'm still recovering from the first surgery (now 6 months ago)? I sure hope it's the latter, as it was a big operation and the surgeon said that fusion may be next, as the facet joints move too much and in this way the liquid will keep forming new cysts. Ugh. Mid August I will have a new MRI to see whether the synovial cyst is back or not.
