Knee :: Physical Therapy After Partial Knee Replacement

I am 42 yrs old and had a Partial Knee Replacement done on Jan 6th...outpatient...went to first PT the next morning. Wasn't too bad...2nd was a little rougher and I was in more pain. 3rd visit had a different therapist and she pushed me beyond what I thought I was ready for. She basically forced bended my knee and forced straighten it..said it's to keep scar tissues from interfering with recovery...this was extremely painful. I am curious to if this is normal protocol on your 3rd visit of PT..which was 7 days post op...I was in soo much pain I could not go to my next PT. Plus I have bruising on my ankle from her force bending with her body weight...I figured I would go back on Monday when my normal Therapist will be there....I have made progress with bending and straightening and don't think I should be rushed like that...I am still in alot of pain but am able to walk around house without crutches. I have been icing and elevating along with doing my homework PT.

Knee Braces Helpful After Total Knee Replacement

I am a 31 year old female about to have a TKR due to severe arthritis caused by PVNS. Currently I have very weak quads and calves in my bad knee from major loss of knee extension. I've heard that it's really hard to go into replacement surgery with weak muscles. I was wondering if I should get a knee brace for after surgery to help with some support until I get my strength back? Has anyone tried these webbing braces and if so do they help? I know some of the immobilizing braces actually cause atrophy.

Knee :: Metal In A Knee Replacement - Airport Security?

Somebody said to me the other day that the metal in a knee replacement will be detected by security, so you have to have a letter from your doctor/surgeon. Does anybody know about/have experience of this please?

Knee TKR :: Two Weeks Post Op - Update / Experience

Today I am two weeks since my TKR on my right knee. I am discharged from Home Care (nurse and PT), done with blood thinner shots, have seen my surgeon, got my 29 staples OUT yesterday, and have set up my outpatient appointments for PT for next week.

In June I had my LEFT TKR done.

In a few minutes my husband and I are headed out to enjoy the beautiful fall weather here in NE Ohio along the coast.

This is the FIRST TIME in about four years that I actually am looking forward to getting outside to enjoy nice weather, a short walk, and sunshine BEING PRETTY MUCH PAIN FREE!

I am incredibly thankful to be getting my life back after so much pain for several years.

Wishing you all much happiness as you deal with recovery, surgery, and other complications.

Big Toe Joint Replacement Operation? Experience?

If so, I would like to hear how you are getting on. I had the op 10 weeks ago, I am still in pain and have tendonitis. I go to physio and can bend my toe which is great but the pain is still as bad as before the op, hoping its because its still early days after a joint op.

Re-replacement Of Same Knee

I am scheduled to have the knee I had replaced 9 years ago in May.  Just wondered if others have had this done and how they are doing.  Have put this off since they told me last year I needed to do it, but pain is enough that I can't do things I enjoy as much.  This time I am working on getting the quads and hams tighter.  Next, watching the diet to lose the 5 pounds I put back on.

Hip Replacement :: A Right Choice? Experience / Tips / Advice?

I've pondered my own need for a hip replacement. I'm sports mad and always have been, playing competitive squash for 20 years (probably the cause of my hip degeneration), followed by many years of rowing and subsequently cycling - which I still do with a passion. I was diagnosed with arthritis about 6 years ago (at 52) and have lived with it since then. Mine's been odd - I've never had the excruciating pain that most people seem to complain of - pain, yes - but bearable. My main issue has been with a gradual loss of range of movement. At this stage, I can barely tie a shoe on my right foot, putting a sock on is a nightmare - and cutting toe nails on that foot is pretty much impossible. But in the absence of severe pain and being still able to cycle with relatively little discomfort, I've never really known what to do about getting it fixed. That being said, I did decide to do something about it this year - and it looks as if I may actually be going in to get it done next week!! As I'm sure most of you did pre-op, I'm feeling pretty apprehensive - and still questioning whether I'm doing the right thing, even though I know I'm having many more 'bad days' and that the constant lack of a full quality of life is getting me down. So I guess I'm curious as to whether anyone has been in a similar position - and whether all you experienced hippies think I'm doing the right thing.

Partial Knee Replacement - Yes Or No ?

I am having a partial knee replacement in the next few months but have read quite a lot of articles mostly negative and I am now wondering if I should go ahead with it or just put up!

Im 57 I like to walk each day I wear sensible shoes and have soles in them from the podiatrist to keep my leg aligned. Will I still be able to walk each day once fully recovered and if so how far will distance be restricted?

i have also read that your sleep is very disturbed after this kind of operation is this correct and if so is this forever or just during recovery.

Also very occasionally I wear a heal about 2.5 inches if I go to a function or have a meal out I only have them On for about 4 hours so would this still be possible after a partial knee replacement?

Finally am I right in thinking that have a partial knee replacement leads to a full replacement within a couple of years?

Partial Knee Replacement - Should I Do It?

My knee joints are worn out on the medial side (inside) and I get pain and stiffness but I can still ride my bike for hours and walk the dog for half an hour and I don't limp since I started the APOS therapy and had steroid injections. But I want to be able to walk longer distances, jog, ski and be nimble like I was 10 years ago. The surgeon will do a half knee replacement on both legs, but am I taking too much of a risk?

Replacement Knee Has Gone Sore

Three years ago my wife had her knee totally replaced. She had good motion and pain-free service for about a year. Then she developed pain and the doctor xrayed and said that she had formed scar tissue within the incision - it was visible as a darkened spot on the x ray. She has been using an analgesic cream for about a year but the pain is very severe at times. What is a solution? We have tried massage etc.

Hip Replacement :: Spinal / Epidural Anaesthetic With Sedation Experience

I had my THR 6 days ago and just wondered if anybody had experienced similar problems with their spinal anaesthetic with sedation.

I was awake at the end of the surgery and could feel the stitching being done. More a sensation than pain but in the recovery area I could immediately move my unoperated leg and had excruciating pain in my operated leg. Was able to move this leg shortly after as well. Took a while for any pain relief to kick in and really shocked me, didn't expect to have any immediate pain until several hours after the op. Have to have my other hip done in 8 weeks time so praying the anaesthetic is stronger next time round.

Psoriatic Arthritis - Knee Replacement

I have had psoriatic arthritis since age 30 and I am now 67.  I have the usual patches on the knees and last year in June I had my left knee replacement operation and they were able to do it without cutting through the psoriasis.  I have now been on the operating list 8 times for my right knee replacement and it has had to be cancelled but nobody (Surgeon, Dermatology Dept) can clear my knee for me from the psoriasis.  I am desparate for the replacement knee as from my knee my right leg goes out to the side about 12" and I am two inches smaller on the right side which aggrevates the arthritis in my spine and gives me terrible pain. I cannot sit most of the time and have to lay on my side.  Can anyone help.  I am using Dermovate Ointment 0.5 mg clobetasol and going on a sun bed.
