Kidney Stones :: Stent And Lithotripsy Isn't Working

Dec 29 emergency room found 2 stones 7 & 8 in size.  Put in stint, went to urologist 2 weeks later and 2 weeks after that had Lithotripsy, turned 2 stones into 5 that were at the bottom of my kidney.  3 weeks later had Ureteroscopy urologist said this would get rid of stones.  Went in today to have stint removed.  Blah, still have several stones.  I am beside myself and quickly loosing confidence in my urologist.  He told me to stand on my head numerous times a day in hopes that the kidney stones will float to the top and out (I am 60 by the way).  Standing on my head is going to be a feat.  Said come by in 2 weeks and we will explore options to remove the stones again...

I am a physician and had my 4th lithotripsy over a year ago

I was miserable

I spoke with many stone sufferers along with medical research. This treatment has been around forever but you will never be prescribed it by a kidney doctor. Lithotripsy is big business

I had recent small stone that passed. My new CT scan showed that the multiple stones seen on my CT scan a year prior were gone.

Kidney Stones - Six Months Lithotripsy - Still Passing Particles?

I had a lithotripsy done in January 2014. I passed a lot of stone particles within a month. Six months later I am still have flank and side pain. I had KUB xray which showed nothing, last month I had an IVP done which again showed nothing. I am still passing tiny particles. Dr. does not think it is my kidney, thinks it is back pain. I disagree with him. Does anyone have any suggestions on passing the particles faster or same issues as I am having?

Kidney Stones :: Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy?

I passed a kidney stone in August 2014 believed to be my first, although a few incidents in the past make me think I've passed stones before (I thought I was having a lot of UTIs but all tests came back clear, this was over a period of around 5 years and happened maybe 6-7 times). The stone in August was quite a strange experience, there wasn't much pain (it came and went) but I had the overwhelming feeling that I needed to pee constantly, it was unbearable and lasted all night so I couldn't sleep. The whole episode lasted around 12 hours (which I believe is pretty quick for a stone...God knows how I would have coped with that for any longer!). I had an x-ray followed by a CT scan a few weeks later and was diagnosed with multiple average-sized stones in my left kidney and one large (8mm) stone in my right kidney.

The whole thing is quite puzzling for me as I'm a 24 year old female, I'm vegetarian, and I religiously drink 2 litres of water a day and have done for the last 7 years or so. My diet is not salty and I don't consume a huge amount of oxalate rich foods. The only reason that doctors can come up with for my condition is that my father is prone to kidney stones.

I'm waiting for EWSL on the 8mm stone, which I'm pretty scared about as I'm worried I'll have the constantly needing to pee feeling afterwards while the fragments pass, but the other stones in the left kidney are just being left there. I feel like a ticking time bomb really because I don't know when these stones will pass, and even when they do, more are likely to form.

I suppose I'm just looking for some advice on how to cope with this situation, what I can expect, and how common the symptom of constantly feeling like you need to go is? Does this usually last long, or does it signify the stone being almost passed? Also, does anyone have any experience of EWSL and what should I expect from that?

Kidney Stones :: Staghorn - Filled My Right Kidney

Thursday morning I spent the night in the ER with a kidney stone in the left kidney -- when they did a CT Scan - they came and told me that they made an "incidental finding" in the right kidney that is a problem -- they have discovered that I have a "Staghorn" kidney stone that has attached itself and almost completely filled the right kidney. He said that I will not pass it and now my GP has made me an appt. with a Nurse Practitioner at the urologist's office for Tuesday morning to discuss my options. What are my options going to be?

Kidney Stones :: Calcium Deposits In My Kidney

A while ago I had kidney stones, I was sent for a scan after, upon returning to my GP for the results of my test, he told me there were calcium deposits in my kidney that could mean I have another on the way, I've been trying to keep well hydrated and doing all I can to prevent a recurrence, because they're damn right evil, I've got away with it for quite a while now, last night I was woke up with the same pain I had when I had kidney stones, I sat on the toilet and waited for the pain so subside, it seems to have gone again for now, I was just wondering if I'm supposed to avoid eating foods rich in calcium, I'm also lactose intolerant and with all this I'm starting to wonder if I'm going to en up deficient in calcium.

Kidney Disease Without Protein In Urine? Kidney Failure?

Is it possible to have CKD or kidney failure without protein in urine?

Last week my masseuse found a knot in my back that she suspects could be inflammation in my kidney. I've had some weird symptoms popping up over the last month like foot/ankle swelling, profound fatigue, leg cramps and blurry vision. This last week though I began developing SEVERE flank pain (like 9 on a 10 scale), back pain (started out lower, now entire back), horrible nausea, horrible headaches, shooting pains down my legs, metallic taste in mouth, dizziness and loss of appetite. Not to sound melodramatic but I feel like I'm dying. The pain is constant but the intensity seems to be moving in 24 hour cycles. Today I feel awful but I was able to shower/get dressed. Yesterday I couldn't even get out of bed. I slept for 16 hours. It's been going in that pattern for the last week and a half.

My doc did a urine culture last week, got results today and there was no protein in my urine, but I had 3+ ketones and a large amount of leukocytes. Blood work from a month ago just came in and my kidney numbers were off a month ago: BUN (32), Creatinine (1.8), eGFR (33). Between the symptoms and the blood test I'm thinking it sounds like renal failure, but could it be CKD without protein in the urine?

Kidney Removal Due To Stones

I have had kidney stones for about 20 years and have had a number of treatments. My right kidney now works at 21% due to scarring and infections. My left is fine, working at 98% with one stone. I do not suffer many symptoms but do get an infection 1-2 times a year (I am experiencing my normal infection pain at the moment). My consultant has discussed removing my right kidney, obviously I have my concerns - will my other kidney be strong enough as I am susceptible to stones etc.

Pregnancy :: Possible Kidney Stones?

I'm a 29 year old female 36 weeks pregnant. Back in January I had a large amount of blood in my urine and some flank pain ( nothing like what most describe with stones) happened again two weeks later so my OB requested a urology work up. I had a full ultrasound which showed mild fluid in my right kidney which is normal in pregnancy. Then sent me off to a urologist for a cystoscopy and two cytologies to look for bladder tumors and Cancer cells. All which were negative. Fast forward to April and again some flank pain with blood in my urine. Urologist wants a CT scan but can't due to pregnancy. So it became a waiting game. May comes along and im having blood every few days with a little more Intense pain lower along my hip and into my pelvis. No back or 'flank' pain per say but now I am urinating large clots and tissue and blood. Went to the hospital they pumped me full of fluids did an ultrasound and saw absolutely nothing and said probably a kidney stone we'll look closer after you have the baby.... Does any of this sound like a kidney stone? They feel it would be a small one since it can't be seen on ultrasound and I am not in excruciating pain. But I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around a 'small' stone causing so much trouble, blood and clots and taking MONTHS to pass... Any thoughts?
