Stopped Taking Thyroid Meds After 4 Years Of Complete - Insurance Won't Cover
I had a complete thyroidectomy four years ago (removed thyroid, two parathyroids and two lymph nodes) and have been taking my meds (112mcg) regularly until I lost my insurance 6 months ago. I can't afford insurance and can't get help with insurance anywhere! I'm now back to work and my health is RAPIDLY declining. I'm retaining fluid like crazy, tired constantly, headaches, severe body cramps, lymph nodes in my neck are so enlarged other people are noticing them, constipated, blurry vision, deep and severe spine pain, ect. I can't afford to pay out of pocket to see a doctor so they can renew my thyroid meds for me! The appointment will cost me around $400 for visit and bloodwork. Are all of these symptoms from being off of my thyroid meds? This has never happened before but I've always been very strict with taking my thyroid meds until now. Btw I'm only 27 years old.

View 1 RepliesHypothyroidism :: Levothyroxine For Underactive Thyroid
During a routine blood test in August I was diagnosed with underactive thyroid. I wasn't feeling ill so was quite surprised when I read the symptoms. I've been on Levothyroxine for 3 months now and I feel terrible. I'm so drained and exhausted, angry and frustrated, bloated, fat, stomach pains and unhappy, I keep going back to the doctor but she just pops me more pills and I don't feel she is very understanding or sympathetic. I didn't feel this bad before I started the medication so I'm going to stop it. I was placed on 50mg and two weeks later my blood tests were normal and have been since so for such a small dose does it really matter? I'm so low, sometimes it's all too much I want to have a paddy and a tantrum and smash the place up and if anyone gets in my way then they'll get it too.
The doctor wants me to try CBT self help courses to understand what troubles me. When I'm not having some kind of flip out I know what troubles me - things are a struggle and I hate being ill and I want to be better.
Thyroid Disorders :: Hair Loss With Levothyroxine
Hi everyone! I am totally new to this group and excited to get input from everyone! I'll try and give you a quick synopsis of the past year and a half for me when I gave birth to my first child....
Initially I felt fine, until about 4 months after I gave birth. I had initially lost all the baby weight and then I started gaining again, had major brain fog, dry skin, cold, crazy water retention and bloated face, unmotivated, etc. all the usual symptoms. In February I was diagnosed with Hashimotos by my regular doctor and here are my levothyroxine dosages and blood results since...
Feb 2015 Tsh 269. T4. <0.11. T3. <20. (No meds yet...initial blood work)
Apr 2015. Tsh 156. T4. 0.45. T3. 42. (25 mcg)
May 2015. Tsh 6.69. T4. 1.83. T3. 96. (75 mcg)
Sept 2015. Tsh 2.89. T4. 1.59. (100 mcg)
Oct 2015. Tsh 8.61. (75 mcg)
Nov 2015. Tsh 1.21. (100 mcg)
Feb 2016. Tsh 2.36. (100 mcg)
So my original Doctor began my levothyroxine regimen at 25 mcg for 6 weeks. I immediately felt much better even though my numbers were still going crazy. He upped my dosage twice then sent me to an endocrinologist. Both agreed that my numbers were so bad it could not be postpartum hypothyroidism and I had probably had this for a long time undiagnosed and the pregnancy made it officially just turn off. In October we lowered the dosage to double check this theory and I felt terrible and my numbers changed right away so my endo put my meds right back up.
Now, hair loss was actually never one of my initial symptoms and I am convinced that it began when i started my medication, but both doctors insist that it's my body getting used to the meds and my levels getting better and better. My endo thought perhaps it's was especially bad because I was also experiencing postpartum hair loss. But at this point it is now a full year since I have been diagnosed and on medication. Coupled with the hair loss I also started getting serious joint pain, but again my endo said I was adjusting and this was a common symptom of hypothyroidism.
So basically, I am wondering how after a year of medication I would still be experiencing symptoms with levels that are now perfectly fine? Unless it was related to the medication??....I feel very guilty bringing it up all the time to my doctor because I know I should be glad that the huge issues of brain fog, concentration and mood are generally good (I still say I am not exactly myself yet). I feel silly bringing up something cosmetic but it is so depressing to look in the mirror. I hate doing my hair, washing it, sometimes just running my fingers through my hair I get five more. Even though now I can say it's less, it's definitely still happening and I don't see any new growth. But, on the flip side, hair loss is associated with adjusting to armour and I am terrified to lose any more.

View 2 RepliesPeriod Is 12 Days Late, Stopped Taking The Pill
I have been on the pill for a year and I stopped taking it just over a month ago. I was having sex just up until I stopped taking it (long distance relationship). Just after I stopped taking it I had a light period but since then I haven't got a period again and it's currently 12 days late. I had some PMS right before I was supposed to get my period but it never came. I'm scared that I could be pregnant because I know a girl who didn't know she was pregnant until it was too late because she was still getting her period! Do you think I could be pregnant or that my period is just irregular (my period was regular before I took the pill).

I've just started taking Citalopram a day ago but already feel the side effects starting. Is it normal for them to start so soon? I feel weirdly sleepy and keep yawning. I also feel a bit shaky and for some reason I can't stop grinding my teeth. Are these symptoms or am I just imagining them because I know that I will be experiencing them soon? I would love for some people to share their experiences with the drug, it's taken me a while to get to the point where I've been comfortable enough to finally talk about my depression and start taking them.

Diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer an year ago and had both glands removed. Did iodine-131 after that. Cancer scan did not indicate any cancer cells spread. Thyroglobulin numbers in my blood was dropping along with my first I-131 treatment until it stopped dropping, that was when my doctor advised me to take a second pill which was about a month ago. Today went back to the doctor and he said that the numbers aren't dropping anymore, so he advised me to check up my lymph and lungs to see if there are cancer cells in those areas.

I've just been diagnosed with Hashimoto, and been doing quite some research. My MD and I decided on Nature-Throid. The lowest dose possible 16,25mg. But I'm terrified of taking it, cause I keep reading about heart related side effects. I must admit that I suffer from anxiety, which doesn't help any. I was wondering if at that low of a dose major side effects are likely? Any experience with Nature-Throid?

View 1 RepliesHerbal Medicines To Cure Depression?
I've been taking anti depression meds for years. now, and none of them have been helping. All they've accomplished to do is cause some bad side effects. I've heard that there are certain type of herbs that can help with many of the same issues as anti depression meds. One of them I've been reading up on and taking is rhodiola root extract. It's supposed to be good for depression, anxiety, among others. What I want to know is if anyone of you ever use any type of herbs? If so can you get away with using just one type of herb to do its work, or do you have to combine it or is it a must that you combine it with other herbs? I hope I can get some feedback from someone that's actually using it by experience. I've learned throughout the yrs. that they are the only ones that can give you a straight answer.
View 1 RepliesInsomnia :: Standard Medicines Have Failed?
I have a complex dx including:ischemic heart disease, cardiomyopathy, congestive heart failure, CAD, ICD implant, renal failure, epilepsy, diabetes, neuropathy and c-spine injury.I am 38. I am med compliant and see all of my specialists and PCP regularly. After my first MI at age 27 I developed insomnia. We did sleep studies and tried many medications. Eventually we found Seroquel to work. I started at 100 mg PRN and was up to 300 mg PRN @HS. I slept well. Actually had to crawl to bed to pass out. I feel I am addicted to this drug. I am down to 25mg at night which gives me 3 hours of sleep. With my medical dx sleep is important but I also believe taking less medication with less side effects is equally important. Seroquel has cardiac and neurological side effects. My team agrees it is time to stop the Seroquel but we have no strategy. How can I wean off from this medication and still sleep?
