Gabapentin With Morphine - Side Effects?

I've been having lower back pain for over a year nearly after a rear end shunt. I was told I had a slipped disc only for the MRI to show it's clear. I don't trust MRI scans though as it was clear when they scanned my knee but upon operation, the cartilage was shredded!

Anyway, i've been on morphine for pain relief for 2 1/2 months now. The GP has now put me on Gabapentin on top of the morphine. Will there be any side effects which are common I should watch out for?

the GP has basically given up solving my back pain. Kind of sucks really as I'm only 28 and he told me to live with it! I'm hoping when my solicitor gets me seen by a consultant he will forward me to a specialist to solve it!

Pain Management :: Morphine Vs Opana

I have been on Morphine Sulfate 15mgx4 per day for chronic pain.  Now my outrageous insurance is saying I must try Opana in it's place before they will let me use my morphine.  I am concerned that it will not take care of this pain as I have tried tylenol w/codeine, tramadol and a patch and none of them work.  I am afraid that this will not take care of my pain and it will be days before I can get an appeal in.  Is Opana/oxymorphone stronger than these others that I have taken.  I apologize if I'm not making myself clear...I am totally handicapped and bed ridden and I am fearful that I will be in pain.

Pregnancy :: Kidney Stones (Tylenol And Morphine)

This past friday at 1:20am I was rushed to the ER from sudden back pain that was unbearable I was so scared for my baby.. Came to the conclusion it's kidney stones and I became more terrified because there's not many pain killers they could give me other than tylenol and morphine, so about the last one I asked if it was ok for my baby, first they said not sure!!  And than they said if it's a small amount its ok… I was so desperate because i know my baby felt the pain too, I took half the dose plus 3 Tylenol and 30 mins later I went to sleep… mind you this was at 5am ughh… what you ladies think?  Should I be worried?

Frozen Shoulder :: Pain Management - Morphine, Naproxen And Paracetamol

In 2007 I had true frozen shoulder in my left (non-dominant shoulder). After freezing and while waiting for arthroscopic release I spent five months on dihydrocodeine and tramadol and didn't sleep. Nosleep. None. I don't really remember much about 2007, I was 42. I continued working, but like a zombie.

I had the arthroscopic release and was off all pain meds within 2 days – was magic.

Surgery performed by Mr Cameron Hatrick in Sussex on the NHS.

However I had severe muscle wastage and was very unfit, so months and months of physio followed before I regained full movement and fitness.

Exercises I found particularly useful was being able to windmill my arm – simulating swimming movements in addition to the other recommended exercises.

In October 2014 I suspected the onset of frozen shoulder in my right arm. I completed as many of the exercises I did post op last time, as possible and went to gp and physiotherapist.

I maintained mobility much longer but had pain when sleeping and lying down, so disrupted sleep.

In late January I lost all mobility within 2 weeks, much more rapidly than last time, but I assumed it was because I had been keeping the strength and mobility exercises up. Up till this point I was coping with just paracetamol.

I was referred to Mr Hatrick again. In the meantime, while waiting, I was back on the dihydrocodeine, then back on the tramadol too. I also used heat patches – the kind that last 12 hours and you wear on clothing, not skin. Still managing sleep in 2 and 3 hour spells to add up to 6-8 hours a night.

However I felt my whole health was deteriorating with the use of the dihydrocodeine and tramadol, as they made me an idiot and I was in a new job and trying to impress. (Well at least look professional).

When they recruited me in February I explained about my condition and that I was waiting for keyhole surgery and would expect to be back at work in a few days. The new job was great because I could go by train as I had given up driving as could open and close the driver's door or use reverse gear.

Before seeing the consultant, I returned to my GP and he wrote a letter to point out how this was adversely affecting my mental health, recommending the procedure be done quickly. I saw Mr Hatrick on March 30th and had the op on April 1st in Brighton.

However, this time the discharge included notes and graphic images and explained the complications encountered. I did not only have arthroscopic release and manipulation under anaesthetic. As I had inflammation ++, impingement ++ and a thickened bursa, I was given a nerve block and had bone shaved.

I went home, tried the dihydrocodeine and tramadol and suffered. Went to the gp twice, spoke to the gp twice, saw the nurse to have my stitches removed and returned to the hospital for examination by a duty registrar. I saw the physiotherapist for an assessment who looked at my discharge notes and said I had had two real extremes of experiences of easy and complicated. I then had a follow up with Mr Hatrick on day 17, who said in 14 years he had never recommended a steroid injection any sooner than 4-6 months post op as there was a risk of infection. However, he recommended it as urgent and on day 20 I had a steroid injection under x-ray.

Now it is day 22 and I am still suffering and am still off work.

Since day 5 I have been on Morphine, Naproxen and Paracetamol. Since day 17 I have also been on Gabapentin. This cocktail will sometimes mean I get 3 or 4 hours sleep. I certainly have better mobility since the release, but pain is still awful, despite the meds and plenty of ice.

Given up taking one day at a time, I now take every 4-6 hours at a time.

No idea when I will be able to return to work.

Pain Management :: Alternatives To Oxycodone?

I have been suffering from chronic pain since 2008 after I had my daughter, which triggered a downward spiral of health and pain. I currently have a laundry list of problems from rheumatoid arthritis, nerve damage in both hands, spinal stenosis, bulging disc, spondylosis from L1-L5 and both of my knee cartilage is "going out". My GP had tried me on any and all NSAIDS and that left me most of the time in the hospital for uncontrollable vomiting and severe abdominal pains. Steroids left me feeling like my head was spinning out of control. Finally my GP put me on hydrocodone 10/500, which at the time took the edge off the pain to where I could function and take care of my disabled daughter and family. After a while the pain started to get to out of control and the lortab was not cutting it so my orthopedic surgeon put me on oxycodone 20mg and somas 325 mg, 4x daily. WOW....I was able, to get myself out of bed and take care of my daughter, clean my house (a little at a time), cook, actually go grocery shopping and enjoy getting out all without my husband or family member helping or doing it for me. I have not been able to feel like a normal person in a long time and it felt better than the person I had became because of the chronic pain. So after 3 months of oxycodone, I go into my regular appointment and see signs everywhere stating (among with a couple other prescriptions) my doctor could no longer prescribe oxycodone. A few patients did not test positive for their meds and were caught selling them. So I was put on percocet 10/325, even though it's still oxycodone with acetaminophen I feel like I am back to taking hydrocodone 10 mg again, back to barely being able to handle the daily things I need to do. So after my long spell I have an appointment coming up in a week and was wanting to know if anyone has any knowledge or experience with something that is equal to oxycodone or something better? There has to be something else that can get a handle on my pain and if my OS can't prescribe oxycodone for me then I need to know what else is out there.

Sleep Disorders :: Xanax Alternatives

Long story short- I wake up after two hours of sleep and CANNOT get back; the feeling is awful and I'm like a zombie all day, not really alive, if you know what I mean.

About three years ago my doctor gave me Xanax, 2mg. They made me sleep through the night. Those pills saved my life. A friend of mine uses them as well, for over ten years for sleep.

At first I was scared to take more than one every few days. When I told my doctor he asked why I didn't just take them every night? I was afraid of becoming an addict. He said, "You gotta sleep, just take them whenever you need." So I take them every night. Life is great, they're only $4.00 a month from express Scripts.

Now they stopped working. Just like that. I'm told that happens, you build up an immunity or whatever. I have a program I set up myself to wean myself off of them- taking a .25 piece off every four weeks.

My doctor gave me something called Trazodone (50mg), that I'm supposed to take along with the Xanax until I'm completely free. It's uncomfortable as hell, but nothing like 'monkey's crawling on my back' or anything.

OK- to the question: What alternatives are there to Xanax? This Trazodone is NOT doing anything.

Is there anything that anyone's tried that I can take to sleep without it killing me by taking it with Xanax?

If I wean myself off of Xanax can the process be started over with Xanax, and maybe last another three years? I'm in complete zombie mode coming off Xanax from lack of sleep.

Atorvastatin - Causing Muscle Cramps - Alternatives?

I was diagnosed with blocked arteries with up to 90% blockage in LAD, last year. Have a stent and need to take clopidogrel 75mg, this has given me endless problem, but this is must for one year.

at the time I ticked all the boxes on healthy side.

1) No smoking ever

2) No Alcohol at all

3) I am 5ft 5inch my weight 54kg

4) was going to gym everyday for 1hr every morning.

5) very fit no tiredness very active with walking and gardening and extensive diy work in the house.

6) my cholesterol at that time was 3.6

Recent test same level without any statin use.

I was prescribed atorvastatin 40 mg.

Started having very bad muscle cramps

they reduced to 10 mg. still gives same problem. I do not take them

My question is how much a person's cholesterol need to be/ Or is it an automatic requirement to have statin because you had blockage?

My diet is as healthy as it should be.

Will welcome information for alternative to statin or something that can effectively reverse the blockage,in arteries.

Lisinopril Alternatives? Amlodipine, Candesartan Or Losartan?

I've been on BP meds for approx 6 months, and currently take Lisinopril 2.5 mg.  It's working well and keeping my BP down.  However, I'm fed up with the resultant dry cough.  The cough isn't continuous, but annoying and disturbs my sleep.  Other side effects are tinnitus, and occasionally a 'woolly' head and odd dreams.

I'm considering asking my GP to change to a different medication (not Amlodipine - tried that first).

I'd be interested to know other people's experience of Candesartan and Losartan.  I've read that these drugs have fewer, but different side effects.   But, also read that the two drugs are less effective.

Tubal Ligation :: Benefits, Risks And Alternatives - My Experience

I've seen lots of threads on here about how much TL 'ruined' women's lives. Sex drive, attitude, etc. Many I've read on here are upset because they want to have more kids now, 1, 3, or even 10 years later.

If you're considering having a TL done, remember that the doctor shouldn't be blamed. At the doctor's office, prior to surgery, you HAVE to sign an Informed Consent form. I work in medical records as a registered technician. I see this forms all the time - and I signed one for my procedure. When I review a medical record, I have to look for the phrase "discussed / reviewed Benefits, Risks and Alternatives.." in the patient history and physical. If your Dr. is not reviewing those 3 things with you, you have 2 choices: be proactive about YOUR body and ASK or find another doctor!

My dr. did not go over the risks, but he did try to get me to go a different route (alternative) and discussed how beneficial it would be vs. hormonal methods or implants (IUD). However, I hold nothing against him. I did my research prior to the ELECTIVE surgery. SO, just saying, it's not all on the doctor. Patients need to take responsibility for their decisions.

I've heard a lot about PTLS - post tubal ligation syndrome. I do find it interesting so many women share the same effects, however I am curious as to how blocking the fallopian tubes messes with hormone levels. Very curious , as I've not seen anything on the PTLS boards linking them. I won't discount it though. However, maybe a small handful of those women who have PTLS have lack of sex drive because they are depressed. Maybe they are depressed because they regret their decision to have a TL done. Those with heavy bleeding, consider what your period was like before you were ever on a birth control pill. So many of us have spent many many years on BC hormonal pills that we get used to a predictable period that is identical every month. Pills regulate the cycle - pills dictate when you will bleed. Take that  away and you give your body a chance to do it's own thing. Most women though stop the pill to 1-switch to another, 2- get pregnant or 3- have their tubes tied. If you go straight from pill to pregnancy to TL, you don't know what kind of period is normal for you.

Again, not discounting PTLS, BUT I want those considering a very effective surgery ( or even Essure now! ) to not be scared if they truly want it.
Now, remember, it is considered a "major surgery" , even in laparoscopic form as I had following birth. I won't lie , for me the recovery was horrible. I elected to be awake for the procedure, with just a spinal block. I did this so I wouldn't be too groggy to see my baby afterwards. Also, it was really interesting participating in conversation during the procedure!! Anyway, when the numbness wore off, I could not even walk to the bathroom without feeling like "please, let me just pee in my pants and someone clean me up - don't wanna move!". Eventually it got easier to walk, but getting up was the worst for about 9 days. Glad I didn't have a Csection, I now can't see why anyone would elect one of those! but I digress.. SO, after I was healed, stitches dissolved (small piece not completely, but I just pulled it and it came right out and I was fine.. granted this was after 3 weeks, I'd NEVER recommend this ), I couldn't wait to have unprotected, uninhibited sex with my husband! No worries of another baby, no worries of "did I take my pill?" (and no worries of affording the pill!).. Maybe I was and am not depressed and losing my sex drive (it's increased ten fold) because I genuinely 100% know for a fact that I am done having babies. My husband is done. We are happy with the 3 miracles we have and are enjoying our newest baby. Sure, I'm tired sometimes, but I have a 15 week old baby. I take care of myself, eat well and exercise 6  days/ week. I am active with my kids. I work a full time / over time job in the hospital.

I just wanted to put it out there that not ALL women who have a tubal ligation live to regret it (I've seen so many "you will regret it" posts, and I think, how do you know what I will regret?!)

Good luck, I hope I've helped at least one person! Not to sway you into it or away from it, but to give you insight into a positive experience.
