Thyroid :: Nodule - Homogeneous Appearance To The Echotexture Of The Thyroid Gland
I had an ultrasound today and it says that there is "a homogeneous appearance to the echotexture of the thyroid gland. Bilateral thyroid nodules are observed. There is evidence of a complex cystic and solid lower pole right thyroid nodule measuring 1.8 x 1.0 x 0.9 cm. Within the left thyroid lobe there is evidence of a hypoechoic midpole left thyroid nodule measuring 0.6 x 0.4 x 0.7 cm. Bilateral thyroid nodules. Dominant nodule is a complex cystic and solid lower pole right thyroid nodule measuring up to 1.8 cm. what does this mean?

What's are the causes of goiters? And a nodule. If you have a goiter do you have a thyroid disorder?
From ultrasound result: what would heterogeneous echogenicity throughout left lobe with no defined cyst or nodule mean?
Thyroid :: Nodule Or GERD?
Had an ultrasound done after finding a lump in my throat. It is a mixed cystic and solid thyroid nodule 2.7cm x 1.6cm x 1.9cm which demonstrates peripheral vascularity, appears nearly isoechoic to thyroid gland and is partially surrounded by a hypoechoic halo or rim.
My family dr sent me to ENT who I saw today. He didn't say much about nodule except for he would like to biopsy it in 2 weeks. After asking me a series of questions he also wants to rule out GERDS. He also wants to repeat an antibodies test I had done back in May when I was having hypo symptoms. No antibodies and was on higher range for hypo, 3.75 and 3.99 . I also had a saliva test back in May and revealed I had very low below the range of cortisol in morning, noon and lowest range for afternoon and midnight. I have had some changing in my throat. Kind of sore a lot and a constant phlegm and cough, which I guess GERDS does from what ENT said. What does he think about nodule?
Thyroid :: Nodule 4 Cm - Should Be Removed?
I'm 54/female...have a thyroid nodule 4 x 2 1/2 x 2....had a biopsy and it was filled w/fluid and blood.
Results came back today. Unremarkable, hypoplastic, no malignancy.....
Doctor said my TSH is 2.1.
He said I'm on the border of removing or not. He said the 1st ultrasound said it was 4 cm, second said 3.7 cenimeters.
he said that the larger the cyst the less the accuracy for the needle biopsy and said the accuracy is about 50/50
I had gone to the Ears/Nose/Throat about sinus issues and he found this lump.
So, i'm following up with the endocrinologist on the 18th to see what they think.
are there other tests the endo can do to determine my thyroid issues? I'm EXTREMELY tired, have had terribly dry skin, and various other symptoms......chalked up to a busy lifestyle.
Also, is 4 cm the decision factor on whether to take out or not? The ENT said he would be inclined to wait a couple months and then do another ultrasound...but agreed with my wanting an endocrinologist give a second opinion.
Thyroid :: Nodule 2.6 Cm Getting Bigger
I'm a 50 year old woman with a thyroid nodule on right side of thyroid. Thyroid function is fine and had biopsy 6 months ago which was fine, however the nodule was 2.6cm on last exam and it feels like its getting bigger so am quite concerned and worried about possible surgery and the risks.

Ultrasound thyroid results
I have just found this forum and joined as I have a problem with my thyroid gland and isthmus. I just turned 67.
Several months to a year ago it was noted at the bottom of an x-ray that I had an enlarged thyroid on the right side. I will see if I have more details later but it was not thought to be too large or a worry although I have trouble swallowing and at times throw up my cup of tea due to it. My voice is also deeper.
On Wednesday I had a ultrasound of my thyroid and the report is as below. My thyroid is very sore since the ultrasound.
Report:
There is a large solid nodule (35 x 28 x 31mm) which occupies most of the right lobe of the thyroid. There is some retrosternal extension of the inferior margin of the right lobe of the thyroid,.
The left lobe has a generally homogenous echo texture and there is only a single nodule (8nn) in the inferior pole.
The isthmus of the thyroid measures up to 7mm in thickness.
There is no cervical lymph node enlargement.
COMMENT:
A large solid nodule expands the left lobe of the thyroid gland. The inferior extent has not been defined and if there are symptoms of impingement on the airway or oesophagus further investigation by CT scan may be advisable to assess this.
My doctor is like others mentioned. Three months ago when I told him I was bringing up blood and asked if it could have something to do with my thyroid he said he doubted it. He did feel my throat and then said there was nothing there now which was obviously wrong.
I still bring up blood but not every day although I was anaemic about 4 months ago and had to have infusions twice in outpatients to get my iron and red blood cells up. As for the bleeding, because I am on Warfarin (rat poison) any bleeding may be excessive. But still I am losing blood and my urine is dark yellow, orange or once recently it was a red brown colour.
I get the brush off from my doctor because I have so many autoimmune problems.
Hope I can get some advice on what I have copied above. I have PN, PMR, GCA, Sjogren's Syndrome and more. I have a lot of trouble walking and continual pain. To go out I have recently bought a tiny wheelchair so I am now longer house or car bound.

Hi, everyone. I have Graves disease (in and out of remission on PTU) and lots of nodules, which I've had biopsied. One of them hurts when I swallow, and I can also feel a twanging or snapping sensation in the area when I swallow. Recently, my voice has changed. I'm not hoarse, but I can't sing the high notes. I don't mean I sound bad or squeak--I mean I can't get any sound out at all above an A (the one above middle C--not a very high note). I sing do-re-mi-fa-sol-la...but when I try to sing "ti," I either get nothing at all, or "la" comes out.
I am waiting on the results of a new biopsy--the first one was 12 years ago--but I'm wondering if a benign nodule could do that to my voice, or if it's something unrelated. If the biopsy is negative, as I expect it will be, what then?

I was diagnosed with 3.6cm nodule and biopsy was done and found to be benign. Since then I have done quite a bit of research on this. I am an extremely healthy person having a very healthy diet and do regular exercise. I have high energy levels and don't feel anything from the nodule. I wonder why I have this in the first place. After all the research, my conclusion is that it may be a result of losing Iodine. I do regular hot yoga and may sweat too much. Anybody has heard of this? Has anybody tried taking Iodine supplement and is it effective?

Thyroid :: Nodule Of 6+ Cm - Risk Of Cancer?
I'm a 21 year old healthy, active female. A 6 cm nodule was discovered in my thyroid about a month ago after I felt a lump in the front of my neck. I had an FNA which indicated that it was benign, however my doctor informed me a week later that due to the large size of the nodule, they can't be sure it's not cancerous. Based on this, he recommended I have surgery and that I won't know whether it's cancerous until the biopsy results come back after a lobectomy.
Since I discovered it a month ago it has become noticeably bigger. Does the risk of cancer increase in fast growing nodules or nodules that are 6 cm+?
Thyroid :: Different Nodule Size On Ultrasound And During FNA?
I have a thyroid nodule that was found in an ultrasound 6 months ago and I recently had my 6 month follow up ultrasound which found that the nodule had grown. My doctor has told me that it went from 1.1 cm to 1.3 cm...but the radiologist told me during my FNA last week that it was only 9mm? I am so confused...I will be asking for copies of ALL of my test results tomorrow morning since there seems to be differing information.
During my FNA last week the doc and tech were unsure what it was that they were doing a biopsy on...a thyroid nodule, a cyst or and enlarged lymph node. When they did the first aspiration they said that it looked as if the "nodule" went down...i was happy because I thought maybe it was a simple cyst, but then whatever it was filled right back up and went back to the same size. They took 3 samples and the doc told me that he wasn't worried about this and I shouldn't be either and I would receive my results in 3-5 days and that was that! I found out today that the tests came back "insufficient cells for diagnosis...repeat biopsy". FRUSTRATING!!
Here are my concerns and confusion...
Can a lymph node be mistaken for a thyroid nodule or cyst?
Would a nodule or cyst immediately back up after aspiration seemed to shrink it?
Should I be worried about any of this?
What questions should I ask my doctor and the doctor doing the FNA?

View 1 RepliesThyroid :: 2.5 Cm Nodule - Anyone With Biopsy Experience?
I am a 21 year old female college student. About a month and a half ago, I noticed a large lump in my throat that moved up and down when I swallowed. Slightly concerned, I made an appointment at my university health center, where they drew blood and my thyroid levels came back normal (I have no hyper or hypothyroid symptoms anyway.) After visiting my primary doctor, I had an ultrasound done that showed a 2.5cm nodule on my isthmus (midline thyroid) with 2 tiny (mm sized) on either side which aren't palpable or visible and I didn't realize I had. The report also said there is increased vascularity, or blood flow, to the area which my endo said could be cancerous or it could just be because the nodule is large with extra blood flow to the area. I have my biopsy scheduled for next week to determine what type of nodule the 2.5 cm one is (benign or malignant.)
To be honest, I'm scared of the results. I have always been healthy other than the occasional common cold, so this is something that really took me by surprise.
For those who are going through or have gone through this, what was your experience with the fine needle biopsy like? If your nodule was benign, did you still get it removed just in case? I just turned 21 with a lot of life plans ahead of me and I am scared that due to its increased size, it could be cancer.
Thyroid Disorders :: Nodule Affecting Swallowing
I've been very disturbed and anxious with the condition of my wife. She's 24, gave birth to our first born 3 mos. ago, 4'9 in height and about 136 lbs. A month ago we noticed a lump at the right site of her neck just about half an inch from her adam's apple. The we decided to consult to an internist and instructed to do a thyroid ultrasound immediately. The result says that there is a small nodule in the right side of her thyroid gland, "a cyst" but her endocrinologist says that all his patients with the same diagnosis didn't have cancerous ones. My wife was given oral medications for about 3 months, one I can recall is the Levothyroxine.
Despite the doctor's calmness and no sense of urgency I can't help but to worry about my wife's condition. She finds it difficult to swallow food and sometimes feel little aching on that part of her neck.
I've always thought that eastern medical practices (here in the Philippines) are different from that in the west. And if I am right I'd like to consult here with somebody who can give us some advice on what to do/eat naturally and what to avoid.

Just recently I was diagnosed with a small goiter & nodule on the left side. The doctor ordered all of the tests (TSH, T4 and TPO antibody level) and everything came back normal. The biopsy on the nodule is normal as well. Benign and no signs of cancer. My concern now is regarding my goiter & nodule. If my test results are all normal, what caused it to enlarge? What do I do to shrink it? My doctor will not give me anything because he said there's nothing wrong with my thyroid. The functions are normal. It just enlarges for a reason sometimes.
