Chances Of Getting Two False Negative At Home Oraquick Tests?
What are the chances of getting two false negative at home oraquick tests? Their website says it's only 92% accurate/sensitive in picking up a positive infected person. Exposure was 10 yrs ago. Could I be in late stage aids and not know it and possibly not producing enough antibodies? Please help I just keep thinking what if they were false and I'm dying. It says 1 in 12 could get a false negative a 8% false negative rate. I think about it everyday and I'm scared to go to a doctor. I read online articles everyday too. Its becoming an extreme fear. What are my chances?
View 1 RepliesHIV :: Oraquick - Accuracy And False Negative?
Before Aug 19th 2015 I had an exposure (oral sex without condoms and also I had shaved my genital and I felt some liquid coming out from the girl on me). I got tested with Oraquick on Dec 18th 2015 and Dec 21st 2015. Both results were negative.
My questions are:
1) Is Oraquick accurate in this situation?
2) how could I understand the accuracy of 91.7% for false negatives?
HIV :: Oraquick - 1 Out Of 12 False Negative Rate
I've practically done it 3 times and I'm trusting my status and life with it, but check this out; If it has a 1 out of 12 false negative rate, then why the hell do they sell it? and Why the hell do people say a false positive is more likely even though the percentages of that happening are quite lower than negative? I had brief unsafe sex with a high risk girl for maybe around 1 minute and a half and then I withdrew because I knew I was being stupid, I've been tested using oraquick at 10, 11, and 12 weeks after and all negative, on forums and stuff I've seen terrible posts of the test not picking up the antibodies well after the window period but people are saying 8 weeks after exposure in nearly certain of you negative result with THIS test. So basically im very lost, any input?

Hi just want to have ease of mind and clarification I had a possible exposure 15 years ago and on the first week of January 2016 I have some flu like symptoms and mouth problem that is similar to oral OHL or maybe it is...I tested negative with oraquick lans Feb. 2016 but then I read an article about late stage of HIV and that oraquick may produce false negative due to antibody issue...since it was 15 years ago from possible exposure do you think I need to test again? I have no strength to test again honestly i'm afraid.
View 5 RepliesOraquick Test Accuracy - Causes Of 8% False Negative?
So my story goes, between 5-10 years ago I had a few(approximately 4) unprotected sexual encounters. I never gave it a second thought as I was young and invincible plus, I had no reason to doubt the women I was with. Recently I started getting worried that I may have contracted hiv at some point during that time; a highly unlikely and unreasonable fear, but none the less it has been causing me extreme anxiety. Last week I decided to take an oraquick at home test and the results came back negative, easing my mind at that time. I then began to wonder if I preformed the test to the exact specifications (I was worried I may have drank some water in the 30 minute window before testing). So again, I went and bought another test, was sure not to drink for an hour before and again got a negative result.
My mind was at ease until I read that these tests have an 8% chance of false negative; which is strange because its the same test administered in clinics with 99% accuracy. My question: are the causes of false negatives typically due to user error or testing before the window period is up? Do I have anything to worry about?
I am considering taking another test or perhaps going to get a rapid blood test. I know my odds of being positive are extremely low but I keep focusing on the what if. Please help and thank you!
P.s. already in the process of scheduling an appointment to figure out this irrational anxiety.
Lyme Disease :: Western Blot Test Could Be False Negative After ELISA Negative?
I have the symptoms of lyme except for the characteristic bull's eye rash - chronic pain, numbness/tingling, fatigue, bad memory.
The ELISA test came back negative, I am thinking of getting the Western blot test done. Can the Western blot come back with a false negative?
Men :: Chances Of A False Positive For Chlamydia?
About 3-4 weeks ago I had a itchy/ticklish sensation in my urethra. A few days passed and then I noticed a clear discharge. The discharge is a bit sticky, so it makes the hole of my penis stick together. A few days later, I woke up and saw a white discharge. The white discharge only happened this one time. So, I went to the hospital the next day and did a urine test. The tests came back negative. The doctor said that it was probably some kind of bacteria, but it should go away. Well, I waited for about a week, and the tickling sensation and discharge was still there. So I went back and he referred me to a urologist.
I went to the urologist and did a swab and urine test. The test came back positive for Chlamydia. I was shocked because I have been with my girlfriend for 8 months and we lived and worked together for about 3 months now. We are literally with each other 24/7, so I know she didn't give it to me. Also, she got her full gyno screening about a month ago and everything came back negative. Since I didn't believe this test, I went to a third doctor and took a urine test. I came back positive for 2 things now -- Chlamydia and Gardnerella. How is it that I took this test 3 times and got 3 different results?
So, my question is -- what are the chances that I received 2 false positives for Chlamydia? Is there any other type of infection that can get mixed up with Chlamydia? The 2nd doctor gave me antibiotics for Chlamydia and I took them for 6 days, however, I still had the discharge after 6 days with little improvement. So, I just started taking a different type of antibiotics from the 3rd doctor, also for Chlamydia. The thing is, I really don't see how it would be Chlamydia. Unless I was silently carrying it for 8 months (I don't think this is even possible!?). My girlfriend and I have unprotected sex since she is on the pill. After I told her my test results, we were both baffled. One factor that I think it could be is that I changed laundry detergents recently. Is it possible that this could cause a false positive for Chlamydia?
HIV :: 9 Week Oraquick Is Accurate?
I had unprotected vaginal insertive back on11/28/2015 and 12/2/201 with the same girl. On 12/08 I was treated for Chlamydia AND LATER FOUND POSITIVE FOR IT. After a round of antibiotics it was presumably gone. However the Doxycycline caused me to experience all the ARS symptoms. After a week or so of being off they were gone. Reading over and over again about symptoms I told the girl to test and she kept saying she was negative and finally went and bought an Oraquick test at her 8 week post exposure to her ex who gave her the chlamydia and it came back negative. I was only at 4 weeks and so the wait was on. After my 9 week exposure I went and bought an Oraquick Swab test from CVS and it came back negative. I am now going on week 10 and still feel like garbage. Can I assume that my 9 week Oraquick is pretty accurate?
View 6 RepliesOraQuick At Home Test Being Accurate On Children?
Does anyone have knowledge of the OraQuick at home test being accurate on children? I know the manufacturer states that the test is not for anyone under the age of 17. However, aren't antibodies in children the same as in adults? If antibodies for hiv were present in a child, wouldn't the test pick it up?
View 1 RepliesOraQuick At Home Anti Body Fluid Tests Accurate?
Are the OraQuick at home anti body fluid tests accurate? I have read that 1 in 12 will test false negative. I have also read that those false negatives are not do to testing in the window period. Can someone please explain the validity of the tests and the truth about the false negatives? Also, if the OraQuick is administered to children, if the child was infected, would the OraQuick detect the antibodies in that individual? I know test is not recommended for children, but antibodies to hiv should be detectable regardless of age, correct?

View 3 RepliesHealth Anxiety - Hypochondria Of False Negative STD Tests
I recently got tested for all stds and stis, this includes swabs, blood work and pelvic exams. Things came back negative but I read online that tests can be false negative. Do I have any reason to keep worrying? I've called the doctors back and they said their tests are accurate and said I shouldn't worry. But I can't get over this. I have been with the same man for four years, and recently stopped taking my anti depressants and anxiety medicine. Do you think this that's why I keep worrying? I can't get in to see a therapist. And can't get this out of my mind.
View 3 RepliesNegative OraQuick Testing At 10 Weeks?
I had unprotected sex with a CSW of unknown status. I got a rapid test using finger blood at 9 weeks, the result was non-reactive. And another OraQuick testing at 10 weeks, the result was non-reactive as well. Is this a good indicator of my 13 weeks result?
Also, CDC recommended to test at 3 months and even up to 6 months - I took
Isotretinoin a couple years ago as this drug was originally designed to treat skin cancer.. I was wondering if this will delay seroconversion?
Should I keep testing until 6 months after the exposure?
HIV Prevention :: Positive Symptoms But Oraquick Negative
I just want to start by saying I'm an 18 year old female and have made some mistakes. In mid July(almost 5.5 months ago) I had brief unprotected sex with someone I did not know (huge mistake). It was less than 30 seconds and he did not ejaculate inside me. I felt fine until around October where I began to get worried about having an STD. I went to the doc and they cleared me of any sti but would not do any blood work because I had tested negative 3 months ago. I tried to explain to them it had been exactly 3 months since the encounter so I wanted to be retested but they refused, even though there is a lab on site. So I went home and in November bought an oraquick oral swab test at Walgreens. At 127 day past the encounter I took the oral swab and it was negative. I was eating a little before the test so three days later I bought another at 130 days and it was also negative. After this I felt way less anxious and I was able to enjoy my thanksgiving and felt like my normal self again. About a week later I feel a swollen lymph node on the side of my neck. It's still there, and not painful. No sore throat no fever. I seem to be experiencing loose stools though. So 141 days post exposure I took another oraquick test and it was negative. This time I followed the instructions to a t. Still worried about lymph nodes took another at 147 days and it was negative as well. I just can't relax because of the swollen lymph nodes. The reason I haven't been back to the doc is because I go every 3 months for a depo shot. My next appointment will be 6 months after encounter and any blood work would be definitive. I know this is a long post, but I can't help it I feel so anxious and depressed. Is there any way these tests are not picking up the antibodies? Why swollen lymph nodes if I haven't been infected.
View 5 RepliesHIV Prevention :: Unprotected Oral Sex - Oraquick Negative
About 2 weeks ago I had encounter with a younger woman who I am unaware of her HIV status. Being that I don't put anything past anyone, I'm totally freaked out about it. She wanted to have sex but I told her I didn't have a condom so she insisted on giving me oral instead. Immediately after that, I was having these weird stomach feelings. I'm not sure if it was from guilt or what, but now I am having aching knees. Last week I was stretching them so im not sure if I irritated my tendons or what but I am totally scared. I took an oraquick HIV test which came back negative. But my question is, what is my risk from catching hiv from this encounter? I have been killing myself with anxiety, depression, and stress from this and school (I am a nursing major). My nerves are bouncing through the rough. I have never had this type of stress from a sexual encounter, I just want to put it all behind me and live a healthy life. I have too much to look forward to in the future.
View 4 RepliesHIV Prevention :: Had 3 Oraquick Negative Results At 3 Months
I had 3 oraquick negative results at 3 months, 3 n half 4 months and a week past my exposure. I know the whole conclusive thing at 3 months but it's just so hard for me to believe the results when my body is acting as if something is wrong. I've had multiple symptoms at 11 weeks after the exposure and my wife had some too. They all point to one thing which makes it hard for me to believe my results. I wouldn't be worried with a negative result and no symptoms or one or two but in my case I've experienced nearly every symptom and so has my wife. I'm taking the cmia duo test for some reassurance because I swear my body is letting me something isn't right. I'm 26 and never experienced any type of sickness like this before, and I'm very healthy and everything so I don't know what's wrong! Lost for words!
View 1 RepliesHIV Symptoms But Oraquick Negative 6 / 12 Weeks AND 6 / 12 Months
I had a exposure with HIV and tested like you are suppose to but now I quest if I used the right test. I tested at 6 weeks 12 weeks 6 months and 12 months all negative using Oraquick oral swab test.
In the past year I have had many infections that I normally don't get and had a rash and sore throat for about 12 past 8 days after the incident.
Now I have 2 cuts that won't heal after weeks. I get canker sores constantly and I never got them before and I don't have a appetite and lost 12 pounds over the last 6 months. Everything points to hiv and I wonder if I am one of the people that don't have enough antibodies to detect in my oral fluids area for the test.
Do I need another test or is this true? accurate at 1 year.
Diagnosed Molluscum Contagiosum But Oraquick Is Negative
I had unprotected sex with a woman about 9 months ago. She was kind of shady and iI fear that i have HIV. I noticed bumps around my groin a couple months after having sex with her. soon after that incident iI got into a relationship with a girl iI have been monogamous with for the past 9 months.
Jump forward about 5 Months.
The bumps began getting uncomfortable and spread slightly to my inner thighs and belly button region. I went to the doctor a week ago and was diagnosed with molluscum contagiosum. He said that a lot of people with HIV get molluscum and it's often the first sign. He recommended an HIV test which I took 5 days ago. The tests didn't come back quickly so I decided to get me and my girlfriend tested via Oraquick. Both of our tests came back negative. I'm still waiting on the results from the doctor...
I'm so stressed I'm worrying myself to death. On the plus side my molluscum isn't atypical, not on the face, and the bumps are small. The Oraquick test is pretty accurate at 6+ months and I took it at 9. my girlfriend and iI have had protected/unprotected/oral/anal/vaginal sex countless times over the past nine months. If I have HIV, I assume she would. She also doesn't have signs of molluscum either.
what are the chances we could both read false negatives? I have some symptoms. headache, I've been sick a few times in the past 9 months, had the flu for two days last winter. Maybe some fatigue/joint pain but maybe I'm just paranoid. My girlfriend has no symptoms of HIv what so ever.
Oraquick Home Test (5 Negative) After Sex With CSW But Still Scared
I made a horrible mistake back in July of this year. I had very brief unprotected sex with a csw. When I say brief, 10 seconds or less. Still a risk I know. Since then anxiety has gotten the best of me. Starting at the 11th week post exposure up until 4 and a half months post exposure I have taken 5 Oraquick Home test. All negative and followed the directions. The problem is all the stuff I read on the internet. Most if it's good, but then there are a few things that scare me and make me wonder if my test were right. I know not to believe everything I read on the internet, but it still scares me. I have had no symptoms and feel great other than my anxiety is through the roof. In all honesty, can I trust the home test results and quit worrying?
