Hypothyroidism At 14 - Levothyroxine Forever
I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism when I was 14, and since then i have been taking Levothyroxine to help with it. I am wondering, will I need to take levothyroxine forever? Or is there a fix for thyroid problems? I don't see my weight going down at all, or my thyroid level. My doctor has been increasing the dosage of my levothyroxine, and has three times now. I recently got Levothyroxine in 0.137mg dosage, and it smells terrible. My old ones were 0.125mg. Is this a very small change, and will it even do anything?
View 1 RepliesCostochondritis :: Tietze's Forever?
I have had Tietze's/costochondritis for 6 years now and it has affected my life drastically. Not sure if it began with a bacterial infection (like one doctor said) or a slight ribcage injury. My symptoms or more like 'gasping for air' and just about passing out because i can't breathe as well as a feeling of 'swelling in the ribcage area'. The pain is around mid-section and wraps around so very difficult to sleep on side. It has affected my quality of life because i have become reclusive and don't do anything that involves a crowd because i don't want to get bumped or elbowed in the ribs. The last time someone hugged me (which was three years ago) i had to go to ER and get a steroid shot and dose pack because ribcage area was so inflamed. I am a thin person so that may have something to do with it--not sure because i saw where someone said that doctor told them they would get better if they lost weight?? When i go to a doctor (and i have been to many from rheumatologist to neurologist) they do not have answers for me as to why this will not go away. I have been told everything from vitamin deficiency to chronic inflammatory problem to 'they don't know what it is or what to do for me'. I am very frustrated at this time because I get roadblocks everywhere i go for help. Any suggestions?
View 4 RepliesProstate Cancer :: Avodart Forever?
I used to have PSA readings as high as 6.0 until my doctor prescribed Avodart 0.5 mg capsules daily. Since starting the Avodart regiment (3 years ago) my PSA readings have dramatically fallen to the range of 3.2 to 3.8 which obviously I am very pleased with. However, looking forward, (I'm 72), I'm wondering what to expect. If I stay on Avodart forever I assume that my readings will continue to be in the good range. But, is there a long term negative scenario for taking that much Avodart that I should be aware of ?
View 1 RepliesMenopause :: Bloated Forever And Weight Fluctuation
I have had a terrible month. Seems like I have done nothing but cry. I usually have more anxiety than I do depression and most of the time I can somewhat shake it off but not this time I don't know what's different. I was having symptoms of my period but so far no show. My question is do any of you have times when you feel you have been bloated forever and does your weight fluctuate?

I was looking at my past medical records and I't appears that I have had elevated BP for the past 5 years and now it is approx. 170/100. Are BP meds a forever thing?

GERD (acid Reflux) :: Best Medication For LPR Treatment
Could anyone tell me what the best medication and treatment is for LPR? And how long after does it take to settle?
I am 99% sure I have LPR.
ENT confirmed with a nose scope yesterday the posterior part of my larynx was swollen due to reflux.
I have read up on LPR and this would explain my breathing difficulty, waking up choking, rare heart burn and acid, difficulty swallowing, frequent laryngitis, constant throat clearing, waking up with a sore throat, sore ears inside, swollen lymph nodes, swollen glands etc.
I am a little more positive than I was just a bit worried incase this is it for life
Anxiety :: Medication Interference With Contraceptive Pills?
I could really use some advice as soon as possible. I've recently started going to therapy, and for whatever reason I seem to be getting worse. I have generalised anxiety, kinda severe ocd and mild depression.
I'm now considering meds as I can't seem to cope and I'm terrified almost all the time.
But I'm also on a contraceptive pill called microlite and I've heard some meds can stop the pill working right. I'm scared of unplanned pregnancy so I'd really appreciate advise from anyone who's on meds who could advise me what to take?
Obviously I'll talk to my doctor but she's a little old fashioned and I worry she might prescribe the wrong thing.

View 2 RepliesAllergies :: Hives From Medication (Levaquin For Pneumonia)
A little over 3 weeks ago I was treated intravenously with Levaquin for pneumonia. About 20 minutes into the drip I started to get large hives! This has been going on for over 3 weeks now. The hives are not nearly as bad as they were but I'm still getting them. I was taking benadryl at first but was then switched to Allegra. I stopped taking it 2 days ago to see if the hives have subsided. For the most part they are not as bad but now anytime my skin gets warm I have a breakout. Needless to say I'm not getting much sleep bc I keep waking up to hives and have to sleep in a cool room so I don't get too hot. Very frustrating!! Anyone ever have this happen? How long did it take for the hives to go away?

View 1 RepliesPain Management :: DNA /genetic Test To Determine Medication?
Has anyone had a DNA test to determine the effectiveness of pain medication? I have chronic 24/7 migraines and take high doses of Dilaudid (16 mgs) every 3-4 hours. Even at this dosage the pain is only reduced to about a 6 on the pain scale. What were the findings from your test? Did it provide any useful information or was it a way for my pain management dr to pad his pockets? As it is I have to see him every 4 weeks and provide a urine sample every other month. After 4 years you would think he could rest assured that I am not taking more than prescribed. I'm just afraid he looks at me like a way to make more money. Any, I digress. Please let me know about the DNA testing.

Recently told I may have Ménière's disease of right ear. Any medications or surgery has helped for you? Symptoms are constant dizziness(at times have sensation of falling or floating when really bad), lightheadedness, very unbalanced, foggy headed, at times ear pressure and constant headaches. All started after bad sinus cold in mid last September and hit me really hard a few days after cold and has never left. The only time I had relief and felt 100% percent was when they gave me antibiotics and prednisone.

View 3 RepliesHyperthyroidism :: Experiencing Symptoms Despite Medication And Normal Bloodworks?
Before I ask my question I would like to stress that I easily get scared hearing about disease, so I am asking that please, no one begin telling of anyone having the symptoms I have and then it turns out to be xyz terrible disease that they died from, because then I will just get so extremely scared. My question is strictly regarding hyperthyroidism.
I am hoping someone can calm me I am new to the forums and new to hyperthyroidism. I have been on medication for 2,5 months and mostly feel just fine, but in the early mornings, from about 05 am, I feel symptoms, which wake me up- heart racing, feeling anxious, a little shaky, preventing me from going back to sleep. It seems to peak at about 07.30 am, and then gradually lessens until it is completely gone at about 09-10 am. But during my period and ovulation and also if I have not slept well (I suffer from insomnia) it seems to linger somewhat longer, sometimes through the afternoon or even the entire day.And this scares me, because I am medicated and my bloodworks say I'm within normal range.
One doctor said yes, I can be feeling symptoms despite medication/normal bloodworks and then another doctor said no I cannot, so now I don't know what to think :'(
The doctor who said I cannot be experiencing symptoms suggested it is mental anxiety, but that just does not match what I am experiencing, because if I get anxious about something, there is always a trigger that will get my mind going and then my body follows. But this is right opposite- it is my body that starts going and then my mind follows. It feels just like the symptoms I had before I was diagnosed and got treatment, it does not feel like getting anxious about something, it starts in my body, not my mind.
Antivirals (valtrex) :: Herpes Medication Affect STD Test Results?
I was recently tested negative for all STDs except herpes type 2 which I have had for years and so wasn't tested. I forgot to tell the doctor I am on Valtrex 500mg daily for suppressive antiviral treatment. Can I reply on the negative results or do I need retesting after coming off the herpes antiviral medication?
