IBS Or Something Else? Flat Stools, Abdominal Pain On Sides, Diarrhea And Constipation
My symptoms were abdominal pain on left and right sides as well as diarrhea and constipation. Which turned to flat stools after that subsided.
After a CT, a colonoscopy with fasting AND prep, my results came back normal, yet my stool is still flat consistently. I'm worried and confused because people say this is cancer but others say IBS
Is this kind of occurrence of always flat stools possible with IBS?
Prostate :: Green Light Prostatectomy - Difficulty Passing Urine
Hello,I am 61 years old. Six days ago I had a "Green Light" surgery to core out my narrowing prostate. I was catheterization for 24 hours and stayed in hospital. When I tried to urinate the stream was very poor. Initially my bladder was holding over 300mls and it was difficult to pass urine in the day, it was virtually impossible to pass in the night. I went back to the hospital after 3 days and I was then holding 280 mls after urinating. I complained to the consultant (who I trust greatly) and he remeasured the bladder after 5 days an there was 150 mls. The worry is a man will go in urinary retention (very painful) and would need emergency catheterisation. Currently my stream is still very poor. I am upset the treatment has made me worse, but I am hopeful the stream will improve as my Consultant believes it will. I am coping at the moment and will wait. If anyone wishes to follow my progress I am willing to share my experiences.

View 1 RepliesCholinergic Urticaria - Itch, Extreme Pain And Passing Out
I am a 28 year old male living in the UK with my parents. I weigh 70kg and am 186 cm tall. I have been suffering with Cholinergic Urticaria for 9 months. Previous to developing this condition, I had no health issues whatsoever. I have been a competitive middle distance runner for the past 7 years, training every day. I have been heavily active all my life.
This condition materialised in the space of approximately 2 weeks. In that time I became entirely incapacitated in my ability to run.
As a result I visited my GP. A blood test revealed a slightly underactive Thyroid. This became the focus for my Doctor and my skin condition was ignored. Avoiding the immediate prescription of hormone replacement therapy, a repeat blood test was scheduled 2 months later to assess any change in the function of my Thyroid. Sure enough, and without any intervention, my TSH had come down significantly. Although not yet back in the 'normal range', I am schedule to have yet another blood test next month.
My doctor failed to acknowledge any relationship between an underactive Thyroid and Urticaria, and whenever the question was asked he became evasive.
My Urticaria worsened, it's affects no longer confined to when I ran but also when I walk, take a warm shower, lift something, feel stressed, anxious, if I'm in a warm building, when I sleep, when I'm in a car, if I trip. Almost everything I do is now affected, rendering whatever I am trying to do physically impossible. My outbreaks are not just itchy, they are excruciatingly painful. I often feel light headed and nauseous during an outbreak and have nearly passed out on occasion. I have to withdraw myself from whatever situation I may be in, in order to cool my body.
I worked for 6 years as an Account Executive, but last year decided to try something new. I have since lost my job as a Postman, having fallen short of the attendance standards required during probation. I started in January, and was fit work due to cooler weather conditions. In May, whilst on delivery, I was unable to continue. I was unable to work and after 15 days of sick I was dismissed.
Because of the warm summer weather I am extremely unlikely to find alternative work. The thought of sitting in an interview wearing a suit in this temperature causes me to itch. Driving my car is often not possible, nor safe, and I cannot wear anything more than running shorts and a loose fitting t-shirt. My aforementioned symptoms of Urticaria are simply not conducive with job searching/working. Despite having been in full time work since graduating, I cannot apply for Disability Benefit because I have too much money accrued in savings, most of which I had intended to use as a deposit on a house. I cannot apply for Job Seekers Allowance because I am unfit for work.
I was prescribed some Cetirizine, it did nothing. I was prescribed Cetrizine in conjunction with Montelukast, it did nothing. I was referred to the Dermatology unit at my local hospital. I provided a physical demonstration of my Urticaria and was prescribed Fexofenadine, it did nothing. I have since been placed on Fexofenadine 180 mg, twice a day, and Propranolol 40mg, twice a day. Despite saying he has never seen such a severe case of Urticaria, the specialist doesn't want to see me again saying he has very little more to offer in the form of treatment options. 4 weeks on and despite feeling ill most of the time, these tablets are doing nothing.
I have scheduled an appointment in September with a separate Dermatologist in order to get a third opinion.
I am depressed. My life has stopped. I am now, as I am everyday, sat on my bed. Confined to living a solemn and sedentary existence. I feel lazy. I feel worthless. I cannot socialize for fear of suffering an outbreak in public. My fear is only further compounded by the thought of suffering an outbreak and being unable to affect it. The pain is shocking. I cannot imagine the toll this has already had on my health both mentally and physically; the physical pain of an outbreak seems an entirely unnatural and extreme stressor for my body to have to deal with on a daily basis. As is my transition from running 75+ miles per week, to doing nothing at all, alongside my rapidly deteriorating mindset.
It's formally documented that this debilitating condition has a greater impact on ones quality of life than that of skin cancer, yet because it's not life threatening in itself it seems no one wants to know. Why is so little known about a disease with such devastating consequences?
Alcohol (binge Drinking) - Nausea, Stomach Pain And Blood In Stools
I'm a 26 year old male... I consumed large amounts of alcohol at age 21 (spiced rum) being ignorant at that age I ignored all of the health problems it was causing me. Besides the normal hangover I experienced stomach pain, lots of constipation, and diarrhea. I only stayed on that binge for a few months, but even 5 years later I'm having possibly serious problems.
1. Nausea! It tapered off the last couple years, but it was bad.... really bad. All day everyday. Now it's more manageable. The worst part is early morning. When I start to feel hungry I just feel like vomiting.
2. Blood in stool... Also has been getting better. Only have blood about once a month.
3. Sore eyes and dizziness.. I feel this one the most (everyday most of the day). It's hard to explain but the best way I can put it, it's really hard to focus my eyes on something. If I'm looking at someone talking to be or focusing on the road I start to feel dizzy and almost disoriented.
Treatment: I saw my doctor many times as well as others. I've had scans, endoscopies, and no one has narrowed down much. The scans came back good, blood is good, the first endoscopy showed I had h. Pylori. I took all the antibiotics (helped temporary make me feel better) but back to the same old.

View 4 RepliesAortic Aneurysm :: Abdominal Pain, Constipation, Lower Back Pain And Pulsating
I have been constipated for years, I have swelling and tenderness in my left quadrant of my stomach slightly above/near my belly button. Around mid february I noticed that when I lay on my left side I get a tingling sensation and numbness with pulsating throbs through to my back. It stops when I turn over on my right side. I went to the ER and they said I have an umbilical hernia, however very small and shouldn't be causing this much pain. I hurt from my ribcage to my hipbone. I am having a colonoscopy done on friday because I thought my colon was causing the pain because I am severely constipated, however Im starting to think I might have an aortic aneurysm after researching some. has anyone had any similar complications? as I'm writing this my left side of my body aches. from my ribs down to my toes. its really strange. I'm worried because I have 2 kids and a husband. My feet are always cold, I figure I already have poor circulation...and I've always said I would die from an aneurysm.

Prescribed Trimethoprim for a UTI but after a few days started having difficulty walking, bouts of Vertigo, severe pain in fingers of right hand and thumb on left hand. Very severe pains in left foot just forward of the heel for five days. Swelling of both feet and ankles. Very severe itching around my belt line. The vertigo attacks were very bad and frightening when they occurred. I stopped taking the tablets after taking the first of a second lot. I have had a note added to my medical records informing I have never to be prescribed Trimethoprim ever again.
View 1 RepliesLumbar Spinal Stenosis? Pain In My Hips - Difficulty Climbing Stairs
I've been suffering with pains in my hips, causing problems with walking and standing. On a bad day the stairs are difficult to climb. This has been going on for about a year now. In the last 6 months or so I have developed a sciatic like pain, only happening when standing up and walking to far. The last few days it's been getting worse and I now have pins and needles in my legs and feet. Sometimes both legs but mostly my left. The sciatic pain is only ever in the left side of my buttock. When I try to stand, I am simply unable to put any weight onto my left leg for a while. I'm 31 years old and a mother to 4 plus work. The doctors keep brushing me off because of my age but I'm sure what I am experiencing isn't right.
View 34 RepliesAbdominal Pain :: Severe Constipation Due To Shingles
So nearly two months back my life changed, I used to have average bowel movements every day *3 on average* but I woke up one day and none of this exist anymore, I tried to play it off and wait assuming it was your normal constipation problems, I let it carry on for nearly two weeks before I tried laxatives and for the most part I only got good results from Equate natural Laxatives, enema's didn't work, suppositories didn't work, so I went to the hospital and found out I had shingles, when I got x-rayed for my abdominal pain n such I expected a clear diagnosis or at least some help but I only got subscribed polythene Glycol AKA Miralax, it gave me false hope thinking I just had terrible constipation, the Miralax worked to a degree for a while but it started producing less efficient movements as I used it, now I am not using anything and have very little gas passing through and I sometimes have oddly shaped small bowel movements, they're not complete and I strain for portions in the bathroom. As of now I have very slight abdominal pain that is in waves showing up in my left side and sometimes on my right. Not sure what to think, as embarrassing as it sounds it feels like my sphincter is really tight making it all troubling. I've started trying natural remedies such as oatmeal, water, and peppermint tea to help bowel movements. I don't know what to really do and I'm worried for my health...
View 1 RepliesHemorrhoids? Stomach Pain, Constipation And Itch Anus
so I've had an ongoing stomach problem caused by a bug for a few months earlier in the year which now with the right treatment seems to be going/gone.
however the tablets I take have caused me to be severely constipated.
i'm 26, have never suffered with constipation, or piles for that matter but for the last 6 months - 1 year I have had an itchy bottom.
basically when I went to the toilet 3 days ago I was pushing too hard to pass a stool. Afterwards when I wiped I noticed some bright red blood in the tissue.
i went to see my doctor yesterday who said it's probably piles, hasn't given me anything for it except some high fibre drinks to help with the constipation.
i'm worried now that with the previous stomach problems it's something to do with that. My dr never examined me. But Surely I would have pain if a pile had popped and I don't have my, there's also nothing around my anus so I'm presuming they must be inside
i've been to the toilet this morning and there's still some blood when I wipe, how long does this last?.

View 2 RepliesBowel Disorders :: Severe Constipation With Bloating And Pain
Im 22 and have suffered from severe constipation since puberty. I've been to doctors and tried metamucil, coloxyl, movicol, oral laxatives etc etc etc i have a high fibre diet, I'm active and i drink enough water. my constipation comes with the typical bloating and pain but also a feeling as though I am trying to digest hundreds of little needles. The only thing i have found to offer some reprieve is dulcolax suppositories. As unpleasant as they are they do soften enough so I can pass the initial blockage but nothing else. my first doctor refused to believe me until he sent me for an X-ray and seen that I was blocked up the wazoo. My second doctor handed me a referral to a dietician even tho I wanted to see a gastro specialist. I'm aware I'll have to see a specialist in the near future I was just wondering if anyone else has/is experiencing the same problem. when I say sever constipation I'm talking 3 weeks usually before I start to lose my marbles and opt for a suppository.
View 2 RepliesBowel Disorder :: Constipation With Stomach Pain And Sore Anus
I'm 31, male, and up until monday i hadn't had the urge to poop. Finally when it came on monday night it was much to big and was hurting very badly when trying to push it out.
Since then i have tried everything. Suppositories, stool softener in pill form, miralax, and now my anus is extremely sore and hurts and im getting stomach pain and it hurts to sit down because of all the pressure in my colon.
I also did try using a medical glove and vaseline and breaking it apart. Got some out but it's still in there.
At this point i don't know what else there is to do. Should i go to the er? I'm feeling that's the only option left.
Irritable Bowel Syndrome :: Only Abdominal Pain And Bloating? No Diarrhea / Constipation
I began to develop abdominal pain following a course of antibiotics prescribed for an overactive gland back in October last year. Since then my condition has worsened to the point where I experience lower abdominal pain on a daily basis. Often the pain can be present all day and I can find no way to relieve it. The only other symptom I have is occasional bloating, but no constipation or diarrhoea (always been regular and that hasn't changed). My health in general is very good and I exercise regularly (swimming and running).
At first I was prescribed Mebeverine but I found it had very little effect. I have had numerous blood tests, a urine test, and also an ultrasound, all of which were clear.
Around 8 weeks ago I was referred to a specialist gastroenterologist and my appointment is in 3 weeks from now. 2 weeks ago I visited my GP again because I was experiencing an unusually degree of pain. She said she would expedite my appointment with the specialist, however this is something she has been unable to fulfil, in part due to bad communication between them and the gastroenterology department and also due to the fact the specialist only works two days a week.
At this point I haven't been diagnosed as having anything specific, and If I'm honest I kind of feel like I've been hung out to dry by my GP whose answer on most occasions has been to wait and see, which suggests they aren't taking it very seriously.
My question really is, is it possible to suffer from IBS but only experience abdominal pain and bloating?
Foot / Ankle :: Nausea, Constipation After PTTD - Failed Nerve Block And Pain
I'm a 38 year old with ankle and foot problems all my life. I was born with flat feet and I was always spraining my ankles. I acquired PTTD/Flat Foot on my left about a year ago and finally was diagnosed by an orthopedic foot and ankle expert. He recommended surgery and after a second opinion I decided I might as well get this taken care of so that I can go back to a normal life of walking through the streets of Europe.
I had my surgery about 2.5 weeks ago and I wanted to lend advice to those about to take on this crazy surgery. Firstly, the morning of surgery when the anesthesiologist was performing the nerve block it hurt like hell and made me even more panicked about the surgery. The relaxing medication they gave me did nothing to settle my nerves. I woke up from surgery a few hours later and I could feel all sorts of shocking pains coming from my foot. I asked if I should be feeling all the pain and they said that the nerve block failed. The anesthesiologist was busy for another hour and so I writhed in pain (crying hysterically) for the hour and vomited multiple times due to the extra anesthetic they gave me due to the failed nerve block.
Once the new anesthesiologist came she figured out that my nerve split into two and the other guy had not seen this split. After she was finished it was completely numb and I was worn out. I was sent home. Over the next day I vomited profusely, found out that I cannot breath when I take Oxycontin, I lost balance and fell on my foot and I was taking anything I could get my hands on for constipation. I finally found the foul tasting milk of magnesia and I can now go to the bathroom every few days.
My pain was managed by a morphine twice a day while in the splint, but now that I am in the cast my heel is killing me especially at night and the dr gave me hydrocodone which didn't touch the pain last night. Is it normal to have more pain at this point?
When will I be fairly pain free and when will I be able to leave the house? I live in Santa Barbara and i have an ocean view so I should not be complaining but i am feeling pretty horrid and ready to get out. When I think about leaving I worry about falling again and having my throbbing leg down.
Am I alone in all of this? Many experiences I have been reading say that after 5 days everything was hunky dory.
