Lupus :: Lupus And Vasculitis Tests Clear-MRI To Rule Out IBC-explanations Needed
I've had odd symptoms for many stinging pains, muscle twitching rashes, pancreatitis that is chronic but clear via scans.
Well, almost 3 weeks ago, a large red mark appeared on left breast. I've been going back and forth to doctor as I've wanted to rule out inflammatory breast cancer-it presents with redness etc but no lesions, hard to diagnose. Today when I went back, the doctor felt nodes under my armpit, confirmed during ultrasound, but said they looked benign and small. He said actually it could pop up from autoimmune. He did admit it was odd. It was on the same side as affected breast and not the other. I'm going to get an MRI of my breast as IBC doesn't show on mammogram or ultrasound often.
I've had swollen nodes in the past. I noticed a few times on my jaw line.
I haven't been diagnosed with lupus, tests many years ago were totally clear as were vasculitits tests. But curious if anyone has had nodes on one part of the body pop up. Im praying its not IBC. I'd much rather it be something else. IBC is the most aggressive form of BC and spreads in a matter of weeks, so grasping for other explanations
Skin Cancer :: Merkel Cell Carcinoma Diagnoses
My husband was just diagnosed with a rare and aggressive cancer of the skin called Merkel Cell Carcinoma on his forehead. It was seen previously by our family physician who thought it was just a cyst.
He has received a wide excision of the tumour, but they did not do a SLNB ( sentinel lymph node biopsy).
Though we've been told the borders are clear, from all the research we have been reading, a lymph node biopsy is recommended for accurate staging of the disease and better survival. We are currently awaiting an appointment with an oncologist at Juravinski Cancer Centre in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.
We'd love to hear from anyone with information regarding Canadian expertise in this area and failing that, any info. or recommendations to clinics known for their knowledge in treating this. There are many doctors who just don't know anything about it and we are searching for the doctor with experience treating MCC. We are already behind because the plastic surgeon didn't automatically forward the initial biopsy report to our family physician and we went back to the office to request a follow-up with the Cancer Clinic. In the meantime, we hope we will hear soon from Juravinski, since we'd like to get going if he's to do that biopsy and any radiation follow-up treatment.

View 1 RepliesAntivirals For Herpes Interfere With HIV Testing
I am a female that was diagnosed with genital herpes 11/22/2013. That is when I had my first outbreak. (I am not sure if I have type one or type two yet). Well I have been waiting as long as I could to take an HIV test because I wanted to be sure. So I think 6 months is a practical time limit, I hope. I took the Oraquick HIV swab test yesterday which was 5/17/2014 (which is almost six months since I been diagnosed with herpes and of course possible exposure to HIV). Now I can't be too certain of the dates, but I am pretty sure it was at the end of November. Anyway, I digress.
Now, I have been taking valacyclovir since I got diagnosed with herpes. Does taking antivirals interfere with an oral swab test from Oraquick?
I am getting an HIV blood test on Monday from a lab, which leads to my secondary question. Will taking the antivirals for my herpes interfere with my blood HIV test from the lab?
I think most of you know why I am asking this, but in case you don't; I read somewhere (forget where), but please don't mark my words because I have a bad memory, but I think it said that the test is not accurate for people who are HIV taking antivirals . I'm very confused about that because who would take an HIV test if someone already knows they have HIV? But again, I could be wrong on what I read. But I do know I read somewhere that taking antivirals could interfere with an HIV test whether it be blood or oral, but it was more about for hiv patients and cancer patients? I want to know more about the oral test if possible for that is my main concern tonight. I am in state of panic and worry. I took two test and they came out negative, but I am still worried, not only because of the antiviral situation, but also because I think I messed up the swab portion of the test both times. I am a nervous wreck.
By the way, the Oraquick 1-800 number is terrible. I tried calling them and they were not very helpful. They seemed really bored being there. They mumble when they speak like teenagers. Very disappointed in the 1 800 number.
Birth Control :: Concentrate Interfere With Alesse?
I'm a nurse and I recently was preparing an intravenous antibiotic for a patient when a splash of the concentrated form got in my eye as I was preparing it. I'm taking Alesse birth control and I was wondering if this would be enough to possibly interfere with the effectiveness of the birth control? I don't specifically remember which antibiotic it was, it may have been ampicillin.
View 1 RepliesHerpes :: Flu Shot Interfere With Test Results?
At the end of December my blood work came back positive for hsv2. I haven't had symptoms or outbreaks. After doing research I found that result index levels above 1.1 are considered positive but below 3.0 are low risk and could be false. Mine was 1.2. I had a flu shot the same day as my blood work. Could this have given a false result?

Three weeks ago by chance I went for a Chinese massage while staying with a friend in Haydock Merseyside, the doctor is in St Helens, however during my massage he asked about my Eczema, he suggested I had some cupping done not the one I had once before, he applied the glass cup and pulled it down my back, it was painfully, he suggested cream which I bought, I am three weeks free from Eczema as befor I didn't have one single day away from some part of my skin being itchy and breaking out and one place in particular used to blister and weep. View 1 RepliesMedicine For Yeast Infection And Balanitis?
I'm a 20 year old male. A little over a week ago, the top of my penis reddened, became painful to touch and swelled up. A few days later the pain dissipated and there isn't as much redness, however the swelling remained. After some research, I came to the conclusion that this was caused by balanitis. The following day, I noticed pinkish spots/rashes on the inside of my thighs. I did some more research and discovered that this was a yeast infection, particularly candida. I read that it's not unusual as both were caused by the yeast.
I'm going to purchase Canesten. I was just wondering if this would work for both the yeast infection and the balanitis? If so, how would I apply it to my penis? It's very swollen therefore very tight, and it physically pains me to retract - I can't even expose the head fully. Would it have to be applied to the penis itself, or will I find a solution if I were to apply it to the foreskin?

I am 25 yrs old and I was diagnosed with UC when I was 16. I am currently on 2000 mg Pentasa twice daily and 75 mg Imuran ( azathioprine) once daily. I haven't had a flare up in over a year. So all is good only now my partner and I would like to try for a baby.
I have discussed this with my consultant and she advised not to come off any medication as a flare up would be worse for the baby than the meds.
The only thing is, I have been looking into the effects of Imuran and it gives awful side effects including miscarriage and fetal deformities.
I am just looking to see if anyone has any info on what I should do. And if any women out there have taken this medication through pregnancy.

Menopause :: Duavee New Medicine For Hot Flashes
I had decided to go to my OBGYN to discuss options for handling my hot flashes. I also had other symptoms such as irritability, vaginal dryness, bloating.....etc...etc....insomnia....palpitations.....I had tried several natural remedies (black cohosh, maca root, Remifemin, soy, eliminated dairy), without success. I was also about to start a new job at our police department and didn't want the added stress of feeling like crap. I went to my doctor (who delivered my children and has been my OB for almost 30 years), and he gave me a prescription for a new drug called Duavee. Duavee is intended for women who still have a uterus, to reduce moderate to severe hot flashes and to help reduce the chances of developing osteoporosis. I have to say, it has helped me SIGNIFICANTLY since I started taking it two weeks ago. I feel so much better. I'm sure it has it's risks as do all medications, but I'm going to stick with it for awhile. I might attempt the natural route again at some point....but for now...I like feeling normal.
View 1 RepliesChinese Medicine Put My Chronic Urticaria In Remission!
I took 3 antihistamine pills a day for a year and a half and still had full body hives. My allergist told me to add Pepcid AC to the prescribed antihistamines. Out of desperation, I called a licensed acupuncturist. After 4 weeks of weekly acupuncture and drinking her tea blends, I am down to one claritin a day and only trace hives occasionally. I am working toward weaning off of the Claritin and then the tea completely. Probably follow up with occasional acupuncture and tea. As you can imagine I am elated and wishing to offer my fellow sufferers the suggestion of checking into Chinese Medicine. Best Wishes!
